I'm sure someone already said this, but 14 pages.
This right here is the answer to the question that is repeatedly asked, "Why don't you have your food diary open?"
Because ANGTFT.13 -

Over the years, I've found the opposite to be true. People twist themselves in knots of guilt about eating foods labelled 'crap' whether they're in a calorie deficit, deliberately undereating or even starving themselves, because they think they're 'cheating', being 'naughty', 'sinful' or 'bad' just by eating those things. Diet food companies further this notion by promoting their products as 'guilt/sin/syn free'.
Personally my response has been "well I can, but I shouldn't", and it's taking me a long time to change that mindset to "well I can, but I can either choose to or not". I don't feel virtuous about eating calorie laden food even when I've been in a serious deficit. I've felt embarrassed and wrong, which is why I've had trouble including those foods in my diary.
Sometimes how you eat matters more than what you eat. Cherries may have a different nutritional makeup to a cheeseburger, but if you ate a pound of cherries a day instead of one cheeseburger a week, because you consider cherries 'cleaner', you'd be more likely to gain weight from the daily cherries, not the weekly cheeseburger.13 -

I had pizza for lunch - way too much pizza! Now it's 8:40pm and I'm still not hungry so guess I'll be staying within my calories, too. Virtuously sinful?
Wine sounds good. @Tacklewasher
I'll save seats for you in my handbasket/bus. It's going to be a big crowd. But we have all the good foods.
One of my main criteria for vacation destinations is good food, so I'm in!
Destination is promised to be warm!
As long as it doesn't melt the ice cream.
Refrigeration/freezers, no guarantees once we reach our destination though.
Is travel insurance available? I really don't want my Ben & Jerry's cookies and cream cheesecake core to melt. Maybe I'll just eat it all in one sitting to be sure.
If you are going to be this difficult, you'll be uninvited right quick.
Please don't uninvite me! I'll be good.7 -

Because ANGTFT.
To be fair, though, those 14 pages are mostly people talking about how much we’ve enjoyed our cookies, cakes, and ice cream. It seems like most attempts at carb shaming go in that direction.12 -

It’s actually worth the read there are some surprising twists along the way...10 -

We can get mochi. Even if it melts, it'll still stay put within the rice dough.5 -

Well, of course. Because you either eat "clean", or you're lying on the couch shoveling pure sugar down your throat all day long. No possibility of a reasonable, moderate middle ground where context and dosage is taken into consideration, amirite?
And never mind the fact that many of the 'treat foods' that carbophobes rail against contain a considerable amount of fat to go along with those carbs.collectingblues wrote: »nutmegoreo wrote: »nutmegoreo wrote: »I'm having pizza for dinner because it fits in my calories and I want it. Results of eating "crap", but maintaining a calorie deficit over 3 years (CICO). Carbs, fat, sugar (especially that processed white sugar!!!), are all part of my regular diet.
PS. I'm having Cookie Crisp cereal, and an apricot, and possibly a fruit roll-up (if any are left) for lunch day.30 -

It has? Really???
Damn. Does that mean I have to give back the 74 pounds I've lost (and maintained the loss for a year so far) by staying in a calorie deficit and including sugary and fat-laden treat foods in my diet in reasonable quantities? Or do I get to keep the loss and just know that it doesn't count from now on?
(Oh, and BTW - you might want to research those figures on TEF. Because you're wrong about that too.)
You think you've got it bad? It's 18 years and two state moves since I lost 50 pounds; it's going to suck going to Florida just to return it.10 -

I draw the line at mochi. I will bring ice and a cooler for the ice cream.4 -
Can we take the decadent picnic party to the Caribbean please?
I'll bring piña coladas and the matching cake.
Cheers, h.
(Ido hope I get invited)6 -

It's mostly for heathens, but we can take the scenic route to the final destination.6 -

Ooo, take me: I'm a heathen! I love a good road trip, even when said road is paved with good intentions!
I make a really good tiramisu (with homemade sponge cake rather than ladyfingers, so it's easy to make great whalloping acres of it). And I could bring focaccia and savory bread pudding from the excellent artisan bakery just down the road.3 -

Alright, I'll call and upgrade to the double decker handbasket.
Of course, it's still to be seen if @pinuplove is going to pull herself together.8 -

@nutmegoreo Would it help if I showed up with cheesecake brownies?5 -

I made reservations!!! I also live a 5 minute walk from a Mexican bakery; I'll be bringing a Tres Leches cake.5 -
I'd be edging for an invite, but since I managed to eat an ice cream sandwich, 2 oreo cookies, and a double wide portion of rice today, AND it should all fit in my calories once I sync my fitbit, I am feeling VERY virtuous and therefore I'm sure I'll be heading in the opposite direction5

Yes I went for the maximum weight loss because I have gained 40 lbs since I turned 50 three years ago and wanted to lose it as fast as possible. And I don't bother with "exercise" calories because walking the dogs and kayaking isn't really what I would consider a "work out".
But perhaps I will have to revisit that because I am finding it hard to stick to under 1200 calories even without the occasional treat or glass of wine.
Kayaking's actually a pretty awesome burn, especially if you're the one steering, or if it's a single kayak. It's an excellent arm workout, and you're propelling some pretty heavy stuff through the water -- doubly so if you're going against the current.
So is Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP). You know, all that time you spending swimming in the water and trying to get back on after you fall in. Especially when you get cocky and try doing some yoga ... not that I know from personal experience or anything ...11 -

Are you people insane?!??? (Or just incredibly strong, talented, graceful, and cocky?)
What a way to drown and put your sacroiliac out of whack at the same time!
