Week 1 of 12 officially completed. There I was this morning pottering along on my nice short (compared to last week) Sunday morning long run thinking about the fact that my pace has got a lot faster all of a sudden and pondering on the possible reasons. Finally getting used to the new shoes and found a good combination of socks and compression sleeves to go with them, felt slightly cooler this morning, knowing the run was going to be 3.5km shorter than last Sunday's one, the fact that I've settled into a run 9 minute walk 1 minute routine now for anything longer than 5km. Probably a combination of all the above and a few more factors I haven't thought of yet. Oh, could also be the two jelly babies I ate as fuel along the way.
Anyway, getting back on to topic, there I was considering all of this and feeling quite pleased with myself because I'm getting faster when an orange thing appears in my peripheral vision, shoots past me on the left and races off ahead. Was it just one of those million other runners that pass me every day? No, it was a guy doing that silly-looking (sorry but it does make me laugh) wiggly speed walk. Way to make a girl feel slow LOL. To make it even worse, he reached the end of the path, turned round and passed me coming back and after seeing him from the front I'd say he was at least 20 years older than me. Oh well!
Well on track for goal this month, and I have a 5.1km race on Friday evening. Organised by the Spanish National Police force to raise funds 'against human trafficking' and the location is on the route of my December half marathon so will be treating it simply as a mini-dress rehearsal/training run.

Considering she lives in Hawaii, a better number is she only needs 600 more miles to run from Hawaii to the coast of California. Easily doable for her I think.6 -
Thanks @MobyCarp I'll pass on the information. He did mention that his HR zones had changed, but i dismissed that as an automatic and accurate adjustment on garmins part.
I did try to stress that he'll get more out the slower, easier runs. I'd like him to run trails with me to slow him down a bit. Maybe i can get him to start his run with me then continue the miles he needs. Hes all about paved roads though.
Its his first go, and he hasnt had this group to learn from. I think he may be inclined to pop in once in a while now. He's a strong enough runner that he can pile on the miles, even sporadically without injury holding him back. I think thats what teaches most of us to reign it in. Not slow gimpy almost running wives that try to convey "right" and "wrong".

Haha, if this guy was doing the full-on hip wiggle race walk (which I think one is totally allowed to say looks goofy) I bet he was booking! The Wikipedia article says that “to achieve competitive speeds racewalkers must attain cadence rates comparable to those achieved by world-class 800 metres runners.” Wow!AlphaHowls wrote: »9/1 26.52 miles

Since I started tracking my running last year I’ve run 317.55 miles. We all need something to aspire to!Thanks @MobyCarp I'll pass on the information. He did mention that his HR zones had changed, but i dismissed that as an automatic and accurate adjustment on garmins part.

Hugs! I wonder if he might benefit from a session or three running coach who isn’t his spouse? I suspect that even if you were the fastest woman alive he’d push back - it can be hard to listen to people who care about us when they try and tell us something we don’t want to hear. It sucks but if he’s never learned to hold back, it’s possible he won’t until he actually does injure himself or end up with a DNF after bonking.6 -
Hi guys! Just joined this group and am planning to run 10 miles today on my first formal week of marathon trainings. Cheers to surviving.14

@MegaMooseEsq The running coach isnt a bad idea. To my knowledge there is no coaching available in our area. I'll see if i can find anything. Thanks.0

There are online ones. It is not as good as in person of course, but many people use them successfully. Might look one of them up.3 -

The running Gods looked favorably on me this morning. 66F degrees, light mist for the first 9 miles. Took it about 0:30/mi slower than MP for the first 9, then MP or better for the last 3. Felt good at the end, but didn't want to push it. Leg felt good for the last 3. Did some good foam rolling and stretching right after, and feeling better than it has in a long time.
Welcome @brianaalyse92!9 -
Thanks @Scott6255 ran 10 miles this morning and training for Boston! Is there a running group to join after December in the fitness pal community?5

144 of of 160 km done. I'm a little annoyed with my self, I've done nothing to work on my lack of speed. I just start running, zone out, and all of a sudden I'm back home, having no idea of how far or how fast I've run until I check my phone.

@brianaalyse92 just stick with this group. We renew each month. We'll take you as far as you want to go6

YES! So each month a new thread is created and most of us move to the new thread. Each month a few fall away, and a few join. I think I have been in the last 13 or 15 months now... but some have been in way more than that, and some will make next month their first one. It is all good
It is really just one big long party at its heart...6 -
7 km - Friendship Trail and Pipeline Right of Way Exploration.
While doing a slow run on tired legs stumbled across the Right of Way for the Water pipeline had been recently cleared and all the trees were chipped creating a deep mulch bed - like running on 6-8 inchs of soft loose material. A real workout for the tired legs - especially since it went straight uphill - no sissy switchbacks 45 meters of Elevation gain in less than a km. Must reverse the route this week so I can run down it. Will be in the area with a camera later so will grab a couple of pictures.brianaalyse92 wrote: »Thanks @Scott6255 ran 10 miles this morning and training for Boston! @brianaalyse92 As Scott as already mentioned Yes there will be a new link posted at the end of each month - always a race /challenge to be the first to post in the new month. Were a chatty group so hang on tight - 69 pgs in 23 days and then there are the sub forums:

and probably some more that I have missed or lost the links to.5
