5 miles at good pace

I bought a new pair just a month and a half ago. still not run. But, after chatting to my sister over lunch in Ikea about exercise, and taking the dog for a walk, I'm feeling inspired because it would be quite fun to run here.
'Here' being Manitoba. As flat as the eye can see. I don't think I've ever run on such a flat landscape so it would bee worth doing a couple of miles for amusement. But how do I know where I am in a featureless landscape?

The mosquitoes are normally big enough you can use them as landmarks - if you can get them to hold still.6 -

I had planned for like 10 tonight... BUT SOME CRAZY 15 YEAR OLD decide to wipe out on his bike, bend his front wheel and derailer hanger. Being the father, I was, of course, obligated to laugh at him... I mean help him get his bike to the shop to see if they can true the wheel or if we will be out $65 for a new one.
Oh, for the moms in the thread HE IS FINE. It's just a little blood up and down his whole side. Builds character. What boy (or girl for that matter) that rides bikes does not occasionally get some road rash? 13 -

It was a pleasant 72 degrees out today with a nice breeze. I didn't look at the humidity but it was obviously not too bad. I actually left myself enough time today to get a decent run in before my strength training class.

I made a long post for you a couple days ago and then the forums went down and I never got to post it! Anyway I wanted to mention that like you, my husband was in the middle of doing c25k when he had his skin cancer surgery last year - fairly large excision on his neck. He was able to walk for exercise within a week and run within 2 weeks but wasn't feeling quite up to snuff for a while after. We had planned for repeating weeks when we got back to it. However, he ended up not losing fitness when he did get back to it - while he was resting his body was still thinking through the whole "we run now" business and getting stronger. So hopefully you will have the same experience of coming back stronger than you expect. Give yourself plenty of rest to heal - even a small surgery can really zap your energy! ~2km walk tonight. Mild twinges in my ankle, and my arches hurt. I will tell my physio tomorrow morning and see if I'm allowed to try running. I also bought some k-tape on Amazon because it was purple.
I registered for the BMO Vancouver Half Marathon next spring.
Got some new cold weather gear on clearance from UA.
Sure spending a lot of money on running this month for someone who can't run right now.8 -
Regarding earbuds - I got 2 pairs of the cheapest $5 pairs. one was awful and died within a few months. The other was great for about a year or so. it now has a loose cable so the left one cuts in and out. and It needs to be close to the source. If I had my phone in my bra or in a arm carrier on the left, the reciever on the right would cut in and out. phone in a running belt midline and it was fine.
My new ones (2 days old) so far are great, no cutting out. beautiful sound (for me, I'm not picky). I got them for half price, around $40usd. but will see what happens. I tend to be pretty brutal to earphones.
Today I nearly skipped out on my scheduled 5k. It was blowing a storm overnight, cold and wet. The wind hadnt let up in the morning but it wasn't as wet. So I went - damn you @PastorVincent you have become a flea in my ear when it comes to crap weather and almost not running lol. The wind was harsh with horizontal rain, and it was FREEZING! Fortunately the rain eased within about 5 minutes, and the wind dropped about 10 minutes after that lol. So the first 2.5k was nasty, but the remaining 2.5 was fine.
I'm happy with the new shoes. A friend showed me a trick on tieing them and I think it made a difference. some much more comfortable!

I just signed up for a 30 min slot on Sun 10/14. This is the weekend prior to my race, so want to stick somewhat close to the plan and not overdo it. I will see if I'm also able to the the virtual group runs at the start/finish, but not 100%.
His death really hit me hard since we're close to the same age and he was always motivating and giving great advice. When I started to see Memorial runs on Strava, I looked at the running thread here and got the details and read the obit... such a great human being and is greatly missed.
He was so humble in his achievements. He'd been here for some time before i realized the experience he had. Always very supportive. I felt lucky i to have his support.9 -

5 miles around Shelby Farms equals stretch goal of 50 accomplished!
Our usual route around the Greenway is having the bathrooms at the trail head torn down and rebuilt, so we won't be running there for at least a month. I liked the bathrooms they had so I'm confused about the need for this. In the meantime we can explore some new routes. Today we ran our usual long steep downhill at Shelby Farms BACKWARDS and were calling on Jesus for mercy before we reached the top. So I guess you could say this was hill training.
Between one day and the next it's autumn. Rainy, moderate temps, and tomorrow it's supposed to dip into the 50s. Three days ago my husband burned his hand opening the front door when we came home because it was so hot. I'm happy we get some nicer temps but I could do without the rain - my feet like to blister when my shoes get wet, and I'm nursing a big one from today. Tried kt tape as a preventative and it did not help.
We saw eleven white herons (egrets) and four great blue herons today while running around the lake. Also many shorebirds of a kind we didn't recognize, and five bluebirds - two couples and a loner. Afterwards for our cool down walk we went down to the stables and petted noses across the fence. I haven't been to the rental ride area since I was a teen, and at that time it was sort of shabby and the horses looked sad. These were fat and sassy, feet looked well trimmed, much better. The horses include a great variety of fancy colors, including a couple of paints, a palomino, and four very pretty blanket Appaloosas. I have a weak spot for Appies because my horse as a teen was one. It took some patience but eventually the Appaloosa gelding I had my eye on came over and allowed his nose to be stroked. He had a good, kind, honest face - wasn't nippy at all, didn't seem fed up with people as rental horses tend to get. I miss riding, I need to take it up again!8 -

Thanks so much for that. I had read something similar online. And I watched the YouTube video of the procedure, and it was a lot more cutting than I had first thought. I have very little info going in as I won’t meet the surgeon until right before. That would be really nice if I don’t lose much fitness either. Hope your husband is doing well.8 -

Tough but enjoyable run this morning and according to Endomondo I shaved 41 seconds off my best 5km time for the month. No matter how much of an effort I make to slow down, I seem to keep getting quicker. Still tortoise pace but I want tortoise pace for the time being, I'm all about going the distance atm.
Now, with two slices of toast and peanut butter inside me, I'm a happy person again :-) I had thought the fact that the first week of my official 12 week training plan would be a nice rest as it included less mileage than I had been running. In fact it made me feel itchy and lazy and goddamn hungry! Looking forward to pushing it back up. No doubt I will regret saying that by December.
