WOMEN AGES 50 + FOR NOVEMBER 2018

My October goals were
Be more consistent with exercise - I walked 7 more miles than my previous high month back in May. 57.7 Miles
Pay more attention to food consumption - I did much better this month than in August and September, lost 1.3 lbs which is not as much as I wanted but it's better than gaining.
Stay positive and focused even when crafting season starts in full - Doing well so far but it's early yet.
November Goals:
Continue to walk more and add in some strength training like planks
Be consistent with food consumption
Be focused - Don't disappoint myself
I found out yesterday that my job is ending. They will be closing my branch, I am just waiting for the call to tell me the date, but it's been suggested it's next Friday. This makes me nervous more for my healthy habits that my financial stability. Last year we survived when I wasn't working in the fall and we'll do it again. I'll just sign up for a couple more craft fairs I think.
Machka - I love your question it sure made me do some thinking. A year and a bit ago I couldn't tell you what made me happy, I was depressed, stressed and generally very sad and angry. This year I have learned to be more grateful, to find joy in the small things and to have Faith that things will work out.
My husband makes me smile everyday, he also makes me laugh. Truthfully, if I had nothing but time with my family I would be a happy person. I feel the best when I am with them. I truly relax in a nice hot bath and my fun and enjoyment comes from being creative with my husband and daughters. I once had to do a speech and was told to find something I was passionate about, I chose Family as my topic. It really describes me best.
My grands had a great night last night and I decided to walk with them since it was such a beautiful night. Jonah was a necromancer from Diablo and Michaela was a fairy.

well what i was told is they are worried about what the prep would do to my kidney function...so until i see kidney dr which is 2 weeks away then I will just have to wait...
they gave me one from the GI office so luckly it didnt cost me anything...3 -
Kim - Love your scarecrow costume
Beth- Your strength and grace is to be commended
Michele - Love the parrot, you have an eye for painting your ceramics
Lisa - So happy for you that you are having a good day
Peanut Butter Cups - If I'm going to eat chocolate that is what I go for.
Tracey in Edmonton2 -
Barbie, thank you for your wisdom and starting us off right yet again!
October results:
walk one more step 74%, 60 g protein=71% rx/vits=58% meditate 42% , knee exercises=42% core=13% walk Tumble=19% SWSY 0/8, hang up or purge art 0/0, AF 77%
November goals, improve those percentages. Updating spreadsheet saw how percentages have been declining. Only bright light is average steps are up from July.
Daily: walk one more step, 60 g protein, meditate, knee exercises, 10 minutes training Tumble.
Twice weekly: core, SWSY upper, SWSY lower
Weekly: hang or purge 1 piece of art
Bonus: AF day
Kim cutest scarecrow ever!
NYKaren "will make me feel good in the long run" That's the idea! Even in the short run. When I binge on sugar I end up feeling like doo doo. Now to remember that when I'm reaching for the sweets
Lisa "Optimistic, able, energetic" That is SO you. Brava!
Machka Line dancing always makes me feel better. Watching Tumble wriggle on something nasty at the beach makes me laugh. I'm in awe of your accomplishments and delighted to hear you're finally taking care of your own deferred medical maintenance.
E in GA love the "what I weigh next Thursday will be..." goal.
Heather, "found my underwear" now there's an image
Lanette "next best thing is candy, chips and ice cream" yah, that's what my mouth says to me. :noway:
Okie love your "bright side" attitude.
Allie in addition to being able to eat breakfast, you can enjoy today away from the toilet...
Welcome Jo in IL, Great accomplishment and balance of 2018 goals. Brava!
Katla congrats on your October successes, very well Done!
Printer (devil's spawn) won't print. Says 'cuz it's out of black ink, BUT it has plenty of "photo" black and all 3 colors. Pfaugh! Off to Bi-mart to see if they have plain black cartridges, if not, it's (gulp) Freddies.
No time to order from Epson, want to print out the monster TJ's list for my T'ai Chi friend. She's going to shop for me in Eugene, saving me a Medford trip. I'll return the favor in December when I go to Medford for semi annual skin screen appt.
Lighter, lovelies!
Barbara, the Southern Oregon Coastie AHMOD.
60 g protein 0/31, rx/vits 0/31, meditate 0/31, walk one more step 0/31, knee exercises 0/31, walk Tumble 0/31, core 0/8, SWSY UP 0/8, SWSY LOW 0/8, hang up or purge art 0/4 AF 0/31.

Well, if any of you wish to send my Navy son a treats box over the holidays, private message me, and I can give you his ships address 👍. Just a serving or two, as space is at a premium on his ship. 💗. Thanks ladies. First Christmas by himself in a foreign lanf, I'm just worried about him.💗

Barbie Thanks for the November thread. I hope you get your tooth taken care of without too much misery.
Kim Such a cute Scarecrow costume. You're adorable.
Snowflake Cutie Pies!
Kelly Can't wait to see your photos!
Heather Idyllic. So happy for you.
NYKAREN Kids probably shouldn't have school the day after Halloween.
Barbara Devil's spawn, LOL!
Beth You are a fierce mother tigress. A heroine in my book.
Concerning Halloween Candy Willie Geist says Reese's are the best, followed by Twix, Snickers, KitKats & Peanut M&Ms. I love Butterfingers more than Reese's. We don't have any Butterfingers in our house. I did eat one of the Almond Joys, though. I take leftover candy to work where the young adults with high metabolic rates make short work of it.
(((Hugs))) to Beth, Allie, Sue, Rebecca, & anyone else who needs one.

We have been working on our deck for an hour or so at a time over the last few weeks & finally have most of it power-sprayed & sealed. There are some outer areas we will have to use ladders for if we decide to tackle them. The most important surfaces are sealed. No more slippery or green surfaces. It's very pretty & much safer.

My word for this year was pluck. I have exhibited pluck in cutting back on my work schedule and becoming a Learning Coach for my grandson. It took pluck to make my concerns about my grandson known to my daughter-in-law & son. Earlier this year it took pluck to get some financial/tax issues resolved (and in my favor, I might add.) On the other hand, I have not been as plucky with my plans to increase the intensity & variety of exercising. And of late, I have been less diligent about food choices.

Karen in Virginia4 -
Barbie: Thank you for getting us started again. I do hope you can get your tooth issues resolved with minimum stress.
Kim: Adorable costume. You nailed it.
Okie: I LOVE your DH's Uncle Eddie. It's my favorite holiday movie. The glass with antlers really makes it.
Lisa: We leave on Sunday morning. I'm counting the hours to our first beach walk.
Machka: Count me in as another one having too much fun enjoying life. I am still in my first year of retirement with a pension, so I am just plain giddy each day that I have time in front of me with nobody dictating what I have to do. My idea of fun includes:
> Working out to my salsa-merengue playlist. It's happy, party music, and when it's blasting in my ears, the treadmill and rowing machine are fun.
> Home improvements from conception, completion and celebration.
> Walking the cat, just because it gets me outside, and he has a way of eliciting delightful reactions from people we meet, which flows back to me.
> Travel: planning, preparing and doing it. Even with the limitations dictated by DH's dementia, I love everything from one day road trips in our Subaru to longer, more exotic locales requiring a passport. I'm happy observing how other people live.
I'm so, so blessed. I live a simple, relatively pain-free life
Jo: Welcome. You are doing great. We are never bored by reading the successes of fellow 50+ers.
Josie: You got this. I can tell you that going alcohol free about 2 years ago helped release a quick 5 pounds. I don't miss it, and allow myself a cocktail a couple times a year when it fits my eating plan.
Tracey in Edmonton: You sound ready to leave your job. Best of luck.
Karen in Virginia: Bravo for finishing the deck. Pluck is a very apt description of your accomplishments. Keep it up.
Intentions for October and report card:
> Meditate and practice Reiki daily = A
> Yoga once a week in addition to regular cardio = A
> Do something fun with DH outside of the house 1x per week = B (missed one week)
> Start on scanning family album #2 = F (still need to finish album #1...ugh)
> Be lighter = C Finished up .5...so basically stayed the same on the scale for second month in a row! However, my jeans are really loose, so I'm trimming inches.
Word for 2018 = Release
Love you all, ladies. Stay well.

Katie I forgot what state you live in. I'm curious about the constitutional ballot issues you mentioned. We have only 4 items on the ballot in our district: elect one U.S. Senator, elect one U.S. Representative, and vote on 2 proposed amendments to the state constitution having to do with property tax exemptions, neither of which are controversial.0

Had a really lovely time this evening with the grandkids. Played, gave them a bath, talked, read stories. I talked for ages with Max about the Big Bang and computer viruses. While he was in the bath.
Then my son cooked dinner and we could leave to go home at 8.30.
Had to take photos of the back of the washing machine and dishwasher and the traps to send to the plumber.
My son has registered me for the Parkrun on Saturday and he is going to run with me. Kids and DH and DDIL will be there to cheer me on. It's all his idea.
Hope I don't make a complete fool of myself. It's 5k, which I've done so often and it's not a race, but I have never run in company before. 500 people.
Love you all, Heather UK XXXXXX8 -
Heather So your 5k isn't a race? That's similar to many events here, which are actually designated as "walk/run". Lots of people here just walk. Does anyone do that in the U.K.?2
-
Heather- so happy for you ..your close enough to the grands that popping up for visits will be alot easier..
I went with my friend Trudy over to a place for Happy Hour .. the bar scene is not for me...
I'm happy to be home with Alfie and in my jammies, going to go to sleep in a bit...2 -
November Goals
1. Stay within calorie goal except 4 days.
2. Exercise 6 out of seven days a week.
3. Cut down on sweets.
4. Lose 4 pounds.
5. Record in diary daily.
6. Walk and have fun daily.
Hopefully this will be accomplished without too many problems!
Word for the month - consistency

It’s 6:20 pm and I’m nodding out. I baked a chicken and roasted carrots and red potatoes. They were yummy! The fun size M&Ms keep calling me and I made brownies too which was a mistake!
Beth prayers for your son’s condition. You are strong and we have a like attitude!! “Let’s tackle the issue at hand and move forward!
Katla My DD does make a good living as a Yoga teacher. She is certified and is a Reiki Master also. She has quite the following. She makes $70/hr for her privates and one of her classes are back up and running!
Her Ex DH is driving her nuts. Since the hurricane the kids are enrolled in Destin’s school district, but since it was his week (they have 50/50 custody) he took they to St Augustine to his parents and left them there. (5 hrs away without her permission) He has no regard for them being in school.
Since she hasn’t been in the house much, he breaks in and steals things from her. She even found his PJs left there. It’s been hard cause her attorney’s offices need repair too. So she just texts him right now.
I walked around the neighborhood with DH and Dolly our dog. I have to think what my goals will be. Walking will be one as my heart doctor is pushing me to do so. So I will!
I’ll be glad when the elections are over! We voted early. Only a few people were at the polling place.
Have a great evening!

Great to read posts in this thread.
I spent most of my adult life being thin and fit. Then I gained far too much weight. Four years ago, I began the journey and within less than one year, I dropped 104 pounds.
In the past year, 12 have come back. I would say that they snuck back, but I know where they have come from.
So, I need to get my head back in the game and get back to good habits.
I did not use any weird diet. I simply logged what I ate and stayed within my limits. I need to get back to being honest with myself and logging EVERYTHING!

Kathy from Portland, OR welcome to our friendly community. There are several of us from the PNW as well as from all over the US, Canada, UK, Australia, Europe, and other places I can't think of right now. We have varied eating and exercise plans and support each other on our journeys to health and fitness. I hope you will keep coming back and join in the conversation. It sounds like you have a lot that we can learn from you.
Sarah, welcome. I like your word "consistency". That is a great way to focus. I learned a long time ago that what I do every day matters more than what I do once in awhile, Having regular routines has been the key for me.
Heather, in spite of your plumbing and electronic woes, it seems that you have already achieved many of the things you hoped would happen in Hove especially being near the coast and the grands. The 5K event sounds perfect for you.
We are finally committed to a small remodel project in our kitchen. We don't have the money or the energy to remodel everything so we chose what was most important and hired a contractor that we trust and bought a new stove. We are getting rid of a Jennair stove top that's old and in terrible condition and a double oven (one oven doesn't work and the door doesn't close so it's kept closed with duct tape) and gaining a cupboard to store foods that have been stored in the laundry room and a beautiful stove that we chose together.

The trick or treat hay ride just finished at my house. Three trailers of kids....I gave them each 2 full sized candy bars and then took what was left out to the last trailers driver and told her to do what she wanted with them, I certainly didn't need to eat them. She is going to take them to our local sheriffs office where they are going to be sent to the troops. I think that is a fine use of my leftover candy!

Did Crunch Live Total Body Boot Camp DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do an ExtremeCardio DVD.
Went to WalMart this morning. A friend had asked me to buy her candy (but only if it was ½ price) for her to give her students. She makes cookies for them and sometimes gives them candy. Anyway, when I first got there this guy says to me “oh, those won’t be on sale”. So I went to the candy isle because I remembered seeing one that she wanted that wasn’t by the door. Out of curiosity, I put it under the price scanner and, sure enough, it came up ½ price. So I tried the other kinds that she wanted (that the guy told me wasn’t going to be on sale) and they came up ½ price. So I stocked up for her. Vince wasn’t happy that I went to WalMart alone in the dark.
Have my annual physical tomorrow. I usually get my flu shot at the physical and I do hope they can do it with my sinus infection. I’m thinking that they can since I’m on the antibiotic and not running a fever. Tonight is Newcomer bowling.
Okie – you and your hubby look lovely
Supposed to rain later today but we want to get the inflatables in the garage before it rains. I think we’ll be able to do that. Update: the only thing still outside are the lights, and that’s because we can’t get to the boxes to store the lights until we dry out the inflatables.
Allie – I’m sorry that you have to wait. At least they told you before you did the prep!
Jo – welcome. You’re doing fantastic with your weight
Vince just asked me where the unopened bags of candy were. I already have them in the car to be returned to the store
Josie – welcome! So sorry to hear about your mom and all your problems. But you seemed to have bounced back, and that’s a good thing. What part of PA were you in?
Tracey – I wish I could take the credit for the colors, but I do usually talk to this one gal who gives me great ideas for colors
Made pumpkin chocolate brownies. Shhh…Don’t tell Vince there’s pumpkin in them or he won’t eat them.
Steve just called. He’s going to FL and on his way up here he’ll stop here Mon. night and stay until Wed. (probably early afternoon)
Went bowling with the Newcomers tonight.

Hey there! Look at me! Up late on a school night! lol I have Trentin with me until 11:30 tonight. He arrived after school, played with the little kids until they all got picked up for the day, ate his dinner, did his homework, watched a show on tv and is now, reading a couple pages of a book (with his eyes closed) lol. Here are a couple photos from Halloween:
The kids costumed up and ready for our walk. A llama, a bat, baby dragon, baby pineapple, a dog, and a bug collector
pumpkin muffins made with whole wheat flour, flaxmeal, and the whey from my home made yogurt.
spider web paintings, a cake pan lined with paper, roll a ball through paint then place on paper and let the kids tip the pan to roll the ball and make the "web". Handprints and googly eyes for the spider.
Halloween was a fun day for us- today was another story. Imagine four children (the babies were fine, thank god) pumped up from a candy crazy holiday, lacking sleep, angry that they couldn't bring their candy with them...needless to say, three toys were destroyed, babies were knocked down, the two oldest laid on the bike path and cried mid-walk, and another peed on my couch because he didn't want to let any one else play with the toy he had. *sigh Thank God for naps and knowing that this was only one day. As Scarlet O'Hara said "Tomorrow is another day..."
Barbie- Thank you for bringing us all to a new month!
Beth- Keeping you and your son in my thoughts and prayers. I love the way you flip things! I would like to think that if/when I am faced with adversity that I would look at what I am able to control and grab the reins. Some things are out of our control; but there always seems to be SOMETHING within our reach that we can work with. Strength and peace to you and your family!
Kim and Okie- You both look fantastic! Love cousin Eddie, too!
Heather- I am loving hearing how you are settling in! I think running a 5k is an excellent way to celebrate your new digs!
Machka- What do I do for fun? (while I laugh hysterically) Like you, my fun "button" seems to be malfunctioning. I did have a nice day on the boat with my brother in law and his wife in September. I also love to spend time with Joaquin. If I had time and $$ my ideal choice for fun is to travel. Just get in a car or better yet, on a plane, and go far, far away and smell new smells, see new places, get new ideas. Most days I feel God really messed up and forgot to give me wings.
Wow. What a little booger I am being. This is why I am a morning person. As the light of day dims and it gets darker; apparently, so does my mood. Well, one more hour until Trentin is picked up and I get to go to bed and start anew. ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)8 -

Karen, I’m in Georgia. We are electing a governor in a highly contested race, lt governor, attorney general, school superintendent, just to name a few, several constitutional amendments, all of which are controversial. One creates a totally new business court, one allows schools to call for local option sales tax referendums directly, a victims rights law that didn’t seem controversial to me at all, but somehow is, confusing me after I thought I understood it. We even have a local referendum in my county to allow alcohol sales at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday. The whole ballot is just one big hot mess. I think I can say that without creating controversy. It is not my intention to start a political debate. I just hope I can decide how I’m voting by Tuesday. LOL.4

Heather: Congratulations! You’re in your new place at last! You’ll get things handled bit at a time. WTG!!! It seems as though your son is doing all he can to welcome you to your new community. Running with you Saturday is lovely. :flowerforyou:
Alison: Waiting is hard. I’m hoping for a great outcome for you. (((HUGS)))
Dana in Arkansas: It is great that your daughter can make a living doing something she loves. Yoga is brilliantly helpful to me. I appreciate my yoga teachers so much and my body is better than ever thanks to them. I’ll bet your daughter’s students have similar feelings. The photos of her are amazing!
Kathy from Portland: Welcome to a great group. We are practically neighbors, since I live in a small town that is not far from Portland. :flowerforyou:
Barbie: Congratulations on your kitchen makeover. I hope you love it.
Joyce: DH & I both had our flu shots last week. I know that flu shots don’t always work perfectly, but they are worth the effort, in my opinion. Most of the time they work great.
Janet: Your granddaughters are gorgeous.
Today has been a good day. I enjoyed yoga, and lunch out with DH. There is a wonderful little Chinese restaurant here in town that offers great food without gluten. DH can order there with confidence that he will enjoy his food and have no digestive troubles. YAY!

Spent the day mostly sitting at the hospital while DH had liver biopsy. We had to be there at 11:00. They did not get to procedure until after 1:00. That took 1 hour and then another 2 hours in recovery. I had not planned on it taking that long. Poor puppy had to spend way to much time in her kennel.
Welcome to the newbies.
Kim-cute costume.
KJ - cute group.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA8 -
Hi Gals,
Thanks for the complements on my costume.
Busy but good day, tomorrow my nephew comes to spend the weekend with me – something that doesn’t happen very often – I see him regularly but not for an overnight and on Saturday we are going into san Francisco to the Ice Cream Museum – his request! It was $38 per person, and from the reviews will have TONS of samples. I will try them all. This is a one time sugar fest. I will then go right back to eating with good sense.
Smiles
