@EIC_76....This is ONLY my point of view. I am currently 36 days AF. I looked into AF beer (beer was my thing). Most have less than .5% alcohol which to me still says it DOES have alcohol. There apparently are a few 100% AF beers out there but they are hard to find in my area. Personally for me, I think it may be a trigger for the Real McCoy for me. So I am steering clear of the wanna be's! Just my opinion. I cant comment on Mocktails as I dont have any experience with them .8

@kcn2bluesky Happy 11 month AF anniversary. I agree that each day AF is truly a gift.
@Drummer913 Congrats on 36 days sober!
@EIC_76 I'm not sure what you mean by alcohol removed drinks. Are they pre-mixed or do you mean mixing your own mocktail? I was a wino (dry red) and there is no substitute that I know of & even if there were I tend to agree with @Drummer913 & would steer clear of anything that may be a trigger. That's just me.
Hope everyone's thriving...surviving's good too!6 -
today was tough as work got stressful again....work stress has been a primary driver for me to turn to alc....but i stayed strong and kept holding on....hopefully it gets better not worse6

Hello Sober Crew,
A question I've had and would like to ask is, What's your opinion on alcohol removed drinks?
Also what, if any are good, do u recommend..?
I steer clear of them. I feel like I am a non drinker now (about 17 and a half months) and politely decline wine or beer without thinking twice or feeling self conscious. Mock drinks would remind me I used to drink and had problems with that.7 -
Thankyou Everyone for your contributions. I fully agree wth whats been said about it being too close or being a trigger. It would be an added trigger for me.
I was trying to work out a backup plan if i didget unstuck. This time of the i havent been able to go dry and totally be back to square one with my health. I have used kombucha and soda water wth lemon up to date.
Thankyou Everyone again,.. xo ..we Are going to get there
Well done @NormInv ,.. your tougher than u think.. *flex* and i know your going to do this. Remember we're doing it too. It IS rough to start off again.. im feeling it too atm. But i do hate being fat and ugly and.... dumb and out of control!. Thats what alcohol makes me feel. Sorry, i feel stupid for saying that but its my underneath true feelings.
Thankyou @CarvedTones your an great support, and awesome inspiration to us..3 -
I'm alcohol free since 11:07:2018
Was an alcoholic
Wife still is
Currently on holiday in the sun where beer is €1 a pint.
It doesn't matter because I don't drink.

I'm completely with you on this,I was always just a beer drinker(but ALOT of them) so I think the taste would send me into a spin and I'd be speeding to the closest gas station to buy the real thing,,I know it does help some people to drink it though but not me.Everyone sounds absolutely fabuloso! Yeah!!2 -
@andysport1 Hi there. Glad to see you're hangin' in!! Happy holiday in the sun.
In my part of the world it has been a very gloomy November & into December now...we did have some sun yesterday & a smidge today. RRRRRR!!! Lack of sun makes me SAD!!! seasonally sad. Only 4-5 months till the sunny season arrives. Here's hopin'
@whitpauly Good to hear from you. I know you're keeping tabs on all of us & it's good to know you are still well
Hope everyone else is doing good also4 -
Hello Sober Crew,
A question I've had and would like to ask is, What's your opinion on alcohol removed drinks?
Also what, if any are good, do u recommend..?
I know when I was first considering going AF (for what looked like addiction issues to me, not for caloric reasons), I was shocked how many ppl suggested "Have you just tried maybe sipping on an O'douls?" Jiminy crickets... I found that so insulting. I'm waving my hands and saying I THINK I HAVE A PROBLEM and people are offering near-beer. Not *kitten* helpful.
Someday, maybe I'll have one. I looooooooooooooooooooove beer. Good beer. Northern CA craft beers = yummy! But for today, I don't think I'm there yet. Interestingly, I've had a 6-pack of Bud Light in my 'fridge since summer that someone left at my house. I love beer, but apparently Bud Light is not a trigger for me! LOL
In short, depending on your goals, I'd stay away from them until you are super solid. Or, just stay away from them period. They're probably gross anyway.

But @ElC_76 ... I thought that many kombucha brands have alcohol in them, at least they did about a year ago when I was drinking them. It may not be enough, but it was enough for me to have one at work and ... feel funny. It may be like a slightly different kind of alcohol than what I was used to, and maybe I'm very sensitive to it (similar to the way I find dark chocolate more stimulating than coffee).4

This weekend I went to beautiful Florida for a getaway. I must admit over the course of five days, I had a few glasses of wine; I didn’t get out of hand at all and actually felt in control like a real person. I wanted to just forget about my diet, my drinking problem, my exercise regimen and just relax and rejuvenate. So that I did.
Now I’m back in the snowy Midwest and back to hard work. Back to abstinence from alcohol, back to healthy eating and exercise and back to work. But I am not fooling myself. I still have the drinking problem I once had. I just wanted to be carefree and thankfully kept it under control. Day 1 begins again. But I’m not dreading it; I know it is better for me to abstain and maybe drink once a year for a special reason.10 -

welcome back!4 -
I had a tough day today and work stress almost got to me....I was very tempted to rush to the store....but I poured a tonic water over ice and ate dinner and felt better....however I felt vulnerable today and that worries me...
i read or heard somewhere that after going dry each time you lapse it become that much harder to quit again and i am finding it to be true....January was fun and i was doing something unknown and tehre was a sense of adventure about it....now its just a struggle5 -
@NormInv It is very tempting to mask the pain or stress with alcohol. For me this past weekend, it signified letting go. And just enjoying the moment.
Good job on tonic and ice. That can be your go to AF drink.2 -
After a few glasses of wine this weekend, I can tell you my face is puffy and ruddy; my stomach is in knots, and my emotions are a little off. I have personal issues going on in my life that are causing me some pain. But I can see that there is an emotional and physical price to pay for those few drinks. I’m happy to be at day 2 today. And will get back into the rhythm of healthy eating and exercising.8

Back to day 1 for me. I was all motivated and ready to go, but last evening I had a pretty rough therapy session, touched on a lot of painful memories, and instead of doing what I should have done, which was go home, hug and my cat and dog and wait for my boyfriend to get home from work to comfort me, I poured myself two mixed drinks with gin. Didn't really help of course. I am worried for this weekend coming up, because my habit is to isolate on Saturday nights and binge on ciders and unhealthy take out.3

Yeah,.. that's a nice substitute..
I was a bad one for failing into that temporary fix. I'm learning another way.
Today we went out on a whole school excursion to summit survivor recreation course and it was a day I would normally smashed down a few ciders.. this was my substitute. I could drive home with a piece of mind

Hugs for u. We are in this together stronger that way. We can do this!! We have to think out side the box for substitute ideas. All ideas are welcome.2 -
@RubyRed427...Your journey is yours. Your choices, decisions, thoughts, emotions. You do You, right? However, you are not alone. This group is tremendous support for all of us, as much or as little as needed. Sometimes we vent, sometimes we inquire or ask questions, and sometimes we just read along till we need or can offer something. I am fairly new to the group, but I have found myself reading this thread and sometimes think, Wow, that's just like me, or that's just like how I am feeling. Anyway, glad to hear you enjoyed a nice getaway in the warm weather, and I admire you for all the feedback you so often provide to us. Congrats on day 2!5

i just wanted to pop in and mention today would have been my husband's 43rd birthday
but he stopped working his program. he stopped working towards recovery. and his addiction killed him. it didn't care he had been married 3 months. it didn't care he had a 14 year old starting high school in a few days. it didn't care he had people who loved him and only wanted more time with him.12 -
@mbaker566....Very sorry to hear that. So sad for all those affected. Wishing you and your family love and strength.5

So….I had quite an interesting night last night! I went to a concert in Brooklyn NY (with another person who doesn’t drink) to see a band called MUSE who I am quite a fan of. They were the headline act for the night preceded by 6 other bands. It was a radio station sponsored event called the Not So Silent Night. Anyway, this is my first concert AF (I think EVER). In the past, I was good for at least 3 or 4 or maybe 5 (24oz) EXPENSIVE beers at one of these venues. By the end of the show, I would be feeling quite buzzed, have the munchies, and have been to the bathroom to pee about 3 or 4 times. And then take a nice slow “I’m fine” drive home along the routes least likely to be monitored by PD. Well……last night the show started at 7pm and the last act finished at midnight. I had 1 20oz. bottle of spring water and a big EXPENSIVE bucket of popcorn all night. I think the salt from the popcorn absorbed all the spring water because I didn’t have to pee once the entire show! Anyway, outside of someone blowing their vape pipe right in my face a couple times, I really enjoyed myself! I ventured into traffic and drove away from the event SOBER and got home safe with no worries albeit a bit late! So….this morning, I am feeling a bit tired, I skipped the 5am gym session for an extra hour of sleep, but I woke up clear headed, thinking about what a great concert it was, and still AF! Today is day 40. Have a great weekend everybody. I wish strength and perseverance to those who need it.16

@mbaker566 I am so sorry for your loss. How tragic.
Julie, I'm glad you enjoyed your vacation in the sun, and even though you had some wine, you keenly observed the effects that it had on you. Excellent.
Norm, I'm always glad to see you here
To everyone else, I expect we will have a huge uptick in participation and a lot of new faces come Jan 1 when many people are hungover, full of regret and embarrassment about the night before, and are trying a dry January. Let's give them a warm welcome and show the support that we regularly give each other. Thanks Jen8 -
@Drummer913 ... so cool! I'm trying my first AF concert next week. Normally this would be SUPER TOUGH for me but I'm going with my sister who is about 90% AF, and it's Willie Nelson... lol. My drinking concerts are usually rowdier bands/musicians.
So, hey, if you can do it, so can I. Cyber high-five to a sober concert! I'm going to wrap up my urges in the strength of the others who are doing the same.7 -
Today is birthday 1 out of 7 in this next mth... I'm not going to give in I'm going to be the driver home from the party( my excuse )5 -
Finding other company that doesn't drink at the party would help a lot. Then the focus is on other things, that then becomes the life of the time.4

That was very insightful. Each of our journeys is our own. Thanks for saying that.
I am happy you had a good experience at the concert. I remember a great song Muse did ... Madness. I always liked that song. I remember several music concerts where I barely remember the time because I had one too many. Not drinking during a concert makes is so much more meaningful. And sounds like you had a fabulous time and woke up clearheaded with no hangover except from being tired from being out late. Xo4 -
