Omg, I always do this. I write a long reply and then hit the done button on top!! Ugh. Any how, this group looks fun! Im going to say 60 miles. I was going to say 100 but really should try to do more weight type days than just running every day. I would prefer to just run, it's "easy" compared to weights. Haha. I like to run on the treadmill, I can watch tv or listen to an audio book and have me time. I had a baby 9 months ago and running was a struggle at first. I had a lot of pelvic floor issues. If I pushed myself too hard, I wouldn't be able to walk later, the pelvic area so sore. But of course I just kept running. The other day I ran 6 miles in 56 minutes and wasn't sore there!! My hips hurt...but not the pelvic area! If it's not one thing, it's another. Anyway, I would like to also run a half marathon this year. Id like to find one that allows strollers but those are hard to find. I had baby on St. Patrick's day so now I'm also looking for a race to run that day! Go runners!!14

One running day left in 2018. Looked at my training plan, added up weekly distances, and got intimidated by the total. So I'll knock that total down a bit for my nominal January goal, on the premise that Life Happens and running won't go totally according to plan. So for the record, here are me January challenge goals:
Nominal January mileage goal: 200 miles
Real Goals: Train well toward Boston. Work the January races into the training plan smoothly. Remain uninjured, even if it means cutting back on planned mileage or races.
I don't usually do annual goals, but I got to thinking about 2018. One of my issues was that I wanted to do more than my body could deliver. So now I'm thinking about what's most important, and what can be ditched in order to keep what's most important. I end up with a list of goals that might be more appropriately called Aspirations, because not all are totally within my control and some of the are aspirations to know when to back off. For the record, here are my 2019 Aspirations for the year:
2019 Aspirations:
1. Remain uninjured and run regularly for the entire year.
2. Run Boston in April, managing the race well.
3. Run New York in November, managing the travel and race well. This requires getting in; I have time qualified, but that is not a guaranteed entry.
4. To the extent compatible with higher goals, run USATF Masters Grand Prix events where my club is fielding a Supervet team. Finances may limit travel; Boston and New York aren’t cheap.
5. Run enough of the Rochester Runner of the Year races to be competitive in my age group for the series.
6. To the extent it’s compatible with training for New York, run the Pete Glavin Upstate NY XC series.
7. Be willing to ditch parts of #4, #5, and #6 if they endanger #1, #2, or #3.13 -
Hi, everyone. First time joining this thread. Very excited! Just recently started running again after 2 years. Had knee surgery and thought my running days were over. Knee still doesn't feel 100%. I'm taking it really slow. My 10 mile goal for January is practically nothing, but at the same time it means everything to me. So try not to laugh too hard. You might waste precious coffee.😊23

@somethingsoright That goal is completely fantastic if you ask me, and you'll get absolutely no laughing from this crowd...the coffees are safe!10

@somethingsoright Welcome! Kudos to you getting back to running after knee surgery. I watched my mom go through two knee replacements- the recovery from surgery was crazy!
A lady who introduced me to my current running group started running at the suggestion of her orthopedic surgeon (strength to the knee). She hasn’t stopped running marathons since.8 -

Monthly group question number 1:
What motivates you to race? What are your payoffs?
Or why do you not race?
I love races. It helps keep my training focused and goal oriented. It also keeps me from slacking.
And in case I'm not as prepared as I would like to be, it turns into a supported long run with cheering crowds and bling!8 -

Yes, or as just a training run. Long run with bling! Putting aside paying $$ for that training run or untrained run as the case may be, it's a lot of fun sometimes to just run it for the run of it.
I saw this list of 27 types of runs that you'll do on Runner's World. I think we can all relate to these. Especially "The Slogger".2 -
I am going to commit to running 3 to 4 days per week this winter.9
-
I’m going to shoot for 45 miles in January.7

Newbie here. I am more or a jogger than a runner.
I haven't dedicated myself to running daily, so I am hoping this group will get me more focused.
My goal is 1.5 miles a day (for now) 5x a week (I will push for 6 or 7 but just to be safe) which is 7.5 miles a week. So I guess that means attempting 30 miles for the month or 40 max.
I am completely new so I think this is a manageable goal for me.
I hated running until I learned I was doing it all wrong. I would push all my effort into running the minute I left the house and finally figured out that starting at a slower pace and gradually getting up to a jog, really helps in longevity....not to mention keeping my mind off the fact I am running really helps with the mental nagging of "can we stop now..." lol
I think for the first month I will also be recording my walking as well. Just to set a minimum for myself.12 -

Welcome!
All running is good running.3 -
Welcome @kholmse and great to see you joining us here fellow teammate @alanpeisakoff !
@abowersgirl haha! “Jogger”.... you are a runner. Non-runners think “jogger”. Now, if you find a body, get a nice little write up in the local paper, we’ll allow you the use of “jogger”.
Welcome runners!4 -
Monthly quiz?
Are you left brain or right brain dominant? Or perhaps you are balanced?
I scored 42. My favorite even number and it also happens to be the answer to life, the universe and everything and my birthday and my dads birthday backwards, 24. Haha! So I’m balanced, although slightly more left.
How about you?2 -

I scored 46 - balanced.1 -
54 - balanced - however I wouldn't put much stock in this test, since it's self-reported and in almost every case the sane and intelligent option was the balanced one. Pop quiz, would you research a car, drive a car, or both? Both is clearly the CORRECT answer. A better made test would use what is called a forced choice question - if you had to either research the car or drive it, which would you pick? And then tally the number of right versus left choices.3

On my long run today I realized that I somehow managed to schedule to 5ks next weekend, one on the 5th and one on the 6th. I had originally thought I could just do a second run one of those days to get my long run in but then I realized the 7th is my day off so I can just do my long run then. LOL5

29, left brained. Not super surprising, lmao3

My goal for Jan will be 50 miles.5
