Tess how is your hockey team doing? .

The Capitals are doing pretty well, Sara, thanks for asking! They are second in their division, just one point behind the NY Islanders so they are definitely in a good position with over 2 months left in the regular season.

The temps are dropping rapidly here, with high winds. Hope our trees stay up! A good day to stay in and stay warm.

    Cheers,

    Tess

Tess, thank you for the heads up on the high winds--I glossed over that in the forecasts. It's terrible and expensive when trees come down.

Good Sunday morning! Woke up to some more fluffy snow on top of the large amount of fluffy snow that fell yesterday LOL finally had our first snow plow go down our street this morning so it looks like the digging out will begin. My husband generally works on the road as he is an over-the-road driver, but luckily he is home this weekend so he can dig us out so I don't have to hahaha I think I'll enjoy another day at home and work on my YouTube drawing class. :-)

Are you the instructor or the student for you drawing class? My husband has been watching a lot of drawing and painting tutorials lately.

    Happy Sunday All~~

I let my friend talk me into going out to dinner yesterday, eating part of his horrible appetizer--a breaded macaroni and cheese ball before having my over-priced hamburger. We drank tap water, and my half of the bill was $33 dollars. So much salt in some restaurant food too.
Scale is up over 2 pounds from yesterday. Wallet is empty now. Dang.

Veggies and clean protein at home for me for a long while. Period. Oh, and exercise - out walking in the cold!

I am so fortunate that most of my friends are willing to just hang out at my house or theirs so we don’t spend a lot. Maybe you need to have a discussion about finding other activities.

I am sort of grounded right now because our car is not reliable. I am missing it. I’m also missing working. I hope that soon I find a new job. I have my EI but it doesn’t pay nearly enough.

I am staying busy with my crafting but I feel my brain is withering away.

I am also struggling being home all day and not snacking! Boredom is the enemy.

Ok off to do some crafting I think. Have a great day

@Snowflake1968 I am the student :) . I found a channel where the guy starts at the super super basics, right down to how to hold the pencil to make clean lines. I used to draw pretty well and constantly when I was young, but put the pencil down about 25 years ago. Drawing feels so foreign to me now, and I'm nowhere near as good as I used to be. My daughter, as it turns out, is such a natural talent and she spends hours every day doing it! I decided I wanted to get back to it. Starting at square 1.

Ok, not sure why i'm unable to post a pic in here. Scentsy is releasing a new Unicorn Buddy, tomorrow. I have posted pic on my home page. They are wonderful for anxiety. They each come with their own scent pak! If interested, head over to my site. They are under the kid's section. Thank you for your support!

Tracey - It is quite common for (common) people in Manhattan to eat out because few apartments are large enough to have company! :open_mouth:

I have a cafe table (full of paperwork) in my kitchen, and then there's the bedroom. It's a tiny studio, so no living room. *sob*

    MONDAY

    Good morning,

Scale is up - double chocolate muffin, fudge and chocolate chip cookies - see a trend?? I got mad at the weight gnomes but have to remember nobody made me eat it.

Sun for most of week, so I see skinny girl walking more.

Weight is highest in a very long time - that fact has made me eat. So I made 3 powerbowl salads and 3 skillet dinners (those are in freezer) so I am getting my vegetables in. I will have to keep my chocolate intake to hot chocolate.

Lana - when you eat out, you are in control of what you order. See above what I ordered this weekend so I know it is not easy.

Wave to all who follow. Lurking from a Monday at work.

    Good Morning!
hello to all. Glad everyone survived the storms. Now the cold. Woke up to -9 today. I did NOT go for an outside walk. Will have to get some hall walking in to make up for it.
Fasting blood work this am. See Dr. in a couple of weeks. Wanted to be at a healthier weight this year when I saw her....not. That is a pattern (:
It is so odd though now that I am 50 - all the advertising and tests that are scheduled to be done. Sigh. I don't always believe in our medical professionals (:
Have a great day! Lurking from work.

Does any one have sad vending machine stories because hoo boy do I have one.

So I keep saying I'm goin to buy snacks to stash at work but I never do, I have like a bag of trail mix that is only here because it was a gift. But I don't really like sweet food when I'm snackish so I head over to the vending machine. We have two in the ops building and one is the "healthy" one which is a variety if Kind bars :unamused: and my go to, the tuna salad snack pack. I guess the vending machine... uh... vendor? got a little slap happy with the snack packs because chicken salad (okay), ham salad (ew), and cheesy tuna melt salad (WHAT) were added and the ham and cheesy tuna ones WERE IN FRONT OF THEIR SUPERIOR SIBLINGS.

Hunger won out, I went with Cheesy Tuna Melt and I can now report that it's basically tuna and cheeze wiz :grumble:

briefly defending ham salad - if done correctly it is quite good. Sorry you had to settle for tuna and orange plastic. Hope your dinner is better.

My dinner was much better. I made a pasta bake from halfbakedharvest on Sunday and it was even better tonight!

Hi all!! Pulling my head out of the sand today!!

@LanaCabana537 I lived in an apartment in Minneapolis in a “posh” area that was about 550 square feet including the deck and paid about $760 per month. I had a mentor at the time whose daughter moved into her own apartment in New York (was living in an place with up to 6 roommates) and she said her daughter’s place was about half the size of mine and her rent was $1,300 per month. When living with her roommates, her rent was about $200 a month as long as they kept the place full. I understand wanting your own space, but that price!! I could not imagine! At least when I lived in Moscow, Russia I was able to find a room to rent without someone trying to rip me off because I was from the US. They charge many foreigners prices equivalent to NY!!

Health wise, my week got more depressing. GI doc wants to do a scope. But hospital has policy that you must have a driver. I negotiated to get the location moved to make it realistic since I have no friends or family to rely on and it would be an agency helping me. But today found out they actually want the driver to be there for the whole check in process and prefer if they stay the whole time. Well, that’s not going to happen. So I have to call the hospital and see what can be worked out or cancel altogether. Meanwhile my ultrasound last week found a fibroid growth in my uterine wall. So my doc is referring me to a gynecologist to discuss treatment, which could be a birth control change or a microscopic type procedure to remove part of the mass, which may be the cause of some of the problems I have been complaining about. Doc wants to wait a couple months to give me time to keep implementing changes and check my A1C again before going with medication for the blood sugar. Meanwhile, the blood pressure medication change she made last month has improved the numbers. She’s glad to see that I’ve maintained the 20 lbs loss since my initial appointment with her in June... I’ve plateaued the last month... but was losing sporadically so it’s all good. Averaging about 1 pound a week. And that is twice as fast as the spine specialist recommended in August. Just such a roller coaster though. I hate it when I have not had insurance for years and then have to play health catch up.

I try to avoid sodium at home because I do go out quite a bit. It is my main form of interaction with people since there are no friends or family. There’s one place I go to where they have my special order in the oven before I get to my seat. Several of the staff talk to me about the latest book I am reading. I often sit there for a couple hours slowly grazing and devouring my book. Last week I stopped in and a young woman immediately came over to see what I had to read before I even sat down. Upon hearing us talk... another young woman came over and now they know they each have some favorite authors in common! 😃

Spent much of last week helping the mental wellness nonprofit that I am a member at with a part of their grant proposal. It was good to have a deadline and a mission, but now I feel like I used to the week after finals at college!! 🤪

Sorry so much!! And sorry for the folks getting trapped under all the snow in these storm fronts!! Hope you all stay safe and warm 🤞🏽😀

    TUESDAY

    Good morning,

Saved the complicated stuff to work on all at once at work. Same contract/issues - so with any luck it will not be so bad.

Oatmeal with powdered peanut butter - sugar in the peanut butter, and I dont add any on top. Baby step change for awhile.

Found a pair of wrist braces and will take those to work to see if they help. Too much knitting crocheting this cold season has not helped.

Runa - put out one fire at a time if possible - GI drivers is the same here.... cannot take uber/taxi - bleh. Find comfort where you can.

Zoeee good morning! New Year new chance to start again. Post when you have a chance.
    QOTD: Best go to snack?

AOTD: Olives and cheese, or pork rinds with homemade dip, oven baked pepperoni chips with homemade dip, celery with cream cheese and herbs, almond butter and pink salt on a spoon, prosciutto and mozzarella rollups.

Can you tell I like to snack?

    Welcome Zoeee!

@RunaMarti wishing you the best with your health. I understand the catchup to be done once you have insurance after being without it. Take care of yourself.

AOTD: cottage cheese, apples, olives, tuna salad and crackers, hummus with veg, and what ever yogurt brand that I'm into at the moment.

That said I typically don't buy food with the intention for it to be a snack except apples. I need to actually buy some snacks for work so I don't go into a hanger inducted bad decision snacking.

AOTD: pretty much what others have answered, but my "in a pinch, in a hurry" snack is a protein bar. The brands I eat are Detour Lower Sugar, Quest, and Quest Hero. (roughly 160-180 calories & 15-21g protein) To me they are best taste and least sugar/carbs. I usually have a couple stashed at work and one stashed in my purse just in case. Better to grab one of those than a burger or fast food.

Lana: so glad you made it back safe & sound!

    WEDNESDAY

    Good morning,

Cold wind and clear skies - making me cranky. I now understand people saying they feel it in their bones.

So cold my blanket was wrapped up around my face. I also slept like a baby, so maybe there is something to this.....

Stay warm out there - lurking from work.

    Good morning, friends!

I have realized I must lose 30 more pounds before the end of the year to get a discount on my life insurance. However, I would like to be at ultimate goal (105) by that time.

    Today, I am setting a new goal--weigh 145 lbs by July 1st.

12 lbs per month is doable. I will have to stay the course and hope my low calorie liquid diet (while my mouth heals) doesn't derail me.

    Hello!
Twiley - your insurance means serious business! Wow! We have levels of weight, blood sugar, cholestorol, etc that we have to meet. If we don't we have to meet with a health coach and set up goals and meet monthly to get our discount. But ultimately they never hold us to actually meeting those goals. You can do it!
Sara - I actually love sleeping in a cold room - IF I have heavy and comfy enough blankets and pillows!
Lurking from work -= waves to all!
