Rebecca - beautiful snow! It started falling here around 1:30.
I had an early lunch in town this morning with a girlfriend, so hit Walmart at 9. WOW, long lines with carts piled high. Looked like Christmas. I only had a few items and managed to be first in line at the customer service desk.
After lunch, stopped at Safeway - same thing, only they have a smaller parking lot so I had to drive around for a few minutes. The "cheap" bread was gone, still plenty of milk left, only a couple bags of romaine left. That was 11:30 so shelves are probably bare now.
But we are all set for at least a week - and the weather report is calling for snow the next ten days. Am I somehow back in northern Indiana? lol.
Margaret - kids! Is this the son you are buying the house with?
Lisa - thank you for your thoughts on eating, diet, etc. After years of having an un-natural relationship with food, it has taken some effort for me to see it for what it should be - nourishment, plain and simple.
Machka - glad that brain cyst doesn't appear to be troublesome. Is the PT the plan for getting your hip tendons/ligaments all tuned up - do they want you to take any medication? I've fallen behind on my frozen shoulder exercises, that and the cold weather is making it hurt I think. Aggravating to have pain and reduced movement in limbs and joints we once used without thinking twice - in your case, even walking. Grateful there is physical therapy to help us heal. Takes so darn long tho.
Kelly - my 6 month old grand-niece in Indiana is going to have to wear a helmet! Maybe I can get my brother to paint Indiana U colors on it. What happened to Joaquin's Notre Dame helmet?

Sue and all of you Pacific NW ladies - dig out your boots and throw an extra blanket on the bed. We are in for it, lol.
I need to bring in the hummingbird feeder. It's about 32f out right now, I have 3 little hummers fighting over it but it's getting dark. Katla, we had a feeder that attached to the window at our previous house - at this house, I can't reach the windows because it's on a pretty tall foundation and the ones I can reach - we keep the blinds down all the time and they are windows we don't normally look out of much anyhow. I can at least see this hanging feeder from my kitchen window.

Stress eating also puzzles me. Don't other people's stomachs shut down entirely when they get stressed? You can tell when I'm feeling somewhat more relaxed about things because that's when I'll eat more.

Nope. Unless I am honestly weighing and logging everything that goes in my mouth, stress makes me empty the pantry and the fridge directly in my mouth.

When I start weighing everything with my food scale and sticking to it all the time, 24-hours a day, 7 days a week ... the weight drops off.
I would also add that a lot of people I hear, at work and elsewhere, over estimate their calorie burn. They do something a little more than usual ... like let's stay climbing 5 flights of stairs back up to our office after a fire drill rather than waiting for the lift ... and announce that they must have burned about 500 calories and should be able to eat a caramel slice with lunch today!
When I log my exercise, I tend to round down. Then when I was on a mission to lose weight, I ate about half my exercise calories back. And that seemed to work too.

My calorie burn is exactly what it is. I use a chest strap heart rate monitor. I don't use what an exercise machine says or what map would say. I override and enter what my monitor says.3 -

I have my appointment with my PT on Wednesday and she'll go over everything in more detail. She just rang me with the results that there was no break but there were other issues.
I don't imagine there will be medication ... aside from panadol.

There were a few snowflakes when Jake drove me to teach my line dance class at 9 AM. Class was small. By 10 AM people who lived uphill or farther west were getting phone calls from home telling them that it was time to drive home. I started with 22 students and at 11:15 there were only 10. We have an all wheel drive Subaru and Jake is an excellent and experienced snow driver but it took us twice as long to drive home as usual. We passed a few cars that had gone into the ditch. Schools were closed about 10:30 so there were school buses on the roads and children being picked up at the school on our route. My electric bathroom heater sparked when I turned it on this morning so we declared it ready for the trash and Jake bought me a new one at Wal Mart after he dropped me off at dance.
The dogs were not happy in snow above their knees. Bessie didn't last long outside. Sasha tried walking across the street, down the street, and around the front of the house before asking to come back in. It is expected to keep snowing until tomorrow afternoon.

I'm in the midst of a 4-day weekend.
It's a long weekend here, but I took an extra day just because I could.
So far, we've done more sleeping than anticipated ... but I think there are times in life where that is what's needed.

If I'm super busy and distracted, I'll eat more or higher calories because I tend to go for convenience food. I tend to gain weight when there's a combination of moving house and health issues all in about a 6 month period of time. Health issues slow down my exercise attempts and moving house is stressful, plus the need for convenience food increases.
But if I'm truly stressed, I stop eating all together. I lost about 4 kg in the first week to 10 days after my husband's accident last year because I just couldn't put anything into my stomach without feeling like I was going to throw up.

Ok I attempted to go out to get mail, but slid, so I turned around and came back inside. Husband takes the keys, and proceeds to slide, fall down into the slopes part of the sidewalk! He was laughing, wasn't hurt, and was quite entertaining!

Sue: We have snow but we probably don’t have as nearly *kitten* much as you do. Our front walkway is looking slushy right now and will likely be icey in the morning. :ohwell:
The snow on our lawn and flowerbeds is still snow, but it has melted on the sidewalks. I suspect they’ll be icy in the morning. I don’t plan to go anywhere unless there is no hidden ice on the sidewalks & roads.
I called a dear friend today because I haven't heard from her in a long while. She is in a nursing home with serious health problems and may be looking at surgery, again. I'm glad I thought to call her, but sorry she's having a hard time. I'll be keeping her in my prayers.

Allie – So I heard about an app for your phone that made me think of you both it is called WAG and it works on a smart phone you make your profile, and clients make theirs and then it matches you for dog walks in what ever area you specify. I have not used it but have a client that does and she loves it. Earns about $700 a month – won’t get rich that way, but as a bit extra and getting paid for exercising ! When a client requests you, then you can say yes or no.. and after the walk put in comments…
Lisa – big smiles that surgery is done, and on the correct knee! You are a trooper and will power through the recovery.. I had a full ACL replacement a number of years ago, and doing the physical therapy was the key.

Machka – I am so glad to hear you don’t have a broken hip! But tendons are slow healers, you will have to be patient with yourself. Hang in there, vent here all you need to.!

Pip - You so nailed it – and the usual is easy to have something little change for a few days that makes the usual just a bit off and that will do it.

The bay area has been very cold for us, below 35 a few nights – very thankful for my pal Levi who cuddles right up and sleeps with me. I have so many dreams for my home, but one of them is new insulation. The homes in this area are not insulated like those of you in colder climates, but even for CA my home is under insulated; it was built in the early 1960’s and the only updating to “insulation” is I did upgrade the windows to double paned. I’d love to add insulation to the ceiling, floor and walls… but I keep saving!
The morning gardening jobs are a bit of a challenge – gardening when it is under 40 is just darn cold! But I’m earning money when I am doing it and next week it is to rain all week! I can do some things, but it is limited.
I’m a bit frustrated with the financial thing – I was just seeing my way to more stability and then some dork pushed pulse on the blender I am living in! one regular gardening job cut in half, camp is laying us off as of may 31, one of my two embroidery machines just broke ($300 plus a full day of my time to replace some parts), $150 repair to my vacuum – the dog needs a regular vet visit, the car a tune up… and the list goes marching on. But the up side ! The embroidery business continues to flourish; and I am fitting in some gardening in my own yard, with the hope of getting it back to it’s glory days.

Feeling much less chesty this morning.
I weighed myself and have gained about one pound. That's great with the reduced exercise. I'm still under my target weight by a couple of pounds. I did cut back on calories when I couldn't burn them off, but went into maintenance mode. Still, I'm very happy.

Lisa glad you're taking pain pills, honestly believe they make the movement you need to do possible. Also believe it's best to take exactly as prescribed, to achieve a level and maintain it. Trying to do without, then having to take some makes it takes longer and more to achieve the needed effect.
wessecg are you Cheri? 4 even 6 weeks is way too young imho... 8 week minimum! Wish we'd gotten Tumble at 8 weeks though, at 4 months she was already fearful.

Heather sorry to hear about your friend.
Sharon sorry to hear you have shingles, my mum had a bad bout of shingles a few years ago, all around her back and under her bust, she couldn't wear a bra because of the pain. I remember putting cream on her back and it was scarlet red - I've never seen anything like it. I hope you only have a mild case and nothing as bad as that.
Yeay for Aubrey going home, she's adorable.
Lots more I wanted to say, but I forgot to take notes, so hugs to the person who had to have their cat put to sleep. It's never an easy thing to do.
Loved the photo's of horses (beautiful eyes) little puppies and snowy scenes etc.
Thinking of you all, but I'd better get off the computer and get some work done, so much for limiting my time on it
