WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR MAY 2019

good nights sleep, weight is back up after not tracking much this week, but above all, eating a pack of rice cakes Thursday and similar yesterday. I have been getting exercise.
I'm invited to a 50th birthday party of a guy who used to organise a sort of unofficial research discussion seminar a few years ago. i've been invited a few times before to his bashes. they are very trendy and hip with lots of people. He's very kind and slightly a mover and shaker in his creative field, doing interesting creative research. I usually meet a few nice people, always run into a few I know from studies, and often, not always feel "less than"many of the people there - less trendy, less accomplished, less young (I think his longterm girlfriend - a beautiful dancer- is at least 10 years younger and so are al of her friends).
He's not rich but bought his home in a poor part of town decades ago at rock bottom prices and now he has this big place in the city which has become more gentrified.
A few years ago he asked me to give tips to his girlfriend on something, on something in my field. He was so generous with his time to us all, I felt obliged. I really didn't want to, but felt in view of his constant generosity to us all I couldn't refuse to help his girlfriend who was nice enough but with whom I didn't have a strong connection at all. I met her in a café and she truly had forgotten/lost her credit card and so I had to pay for her coffee and snack, as we didn't realise to til the bill came. (and she was stressing about having possibly lost the card) And the waiter, not so very young, came over and asked if she was an actress, saying she was so beautiful, hovering around a bit. She was ill at ease about all this and so was I. I'm very often giving people little tips when asked, but here don't know it was a bit forced.
last week I was invited to a birthday party of someone I know pretty well who always has big b-day parties and I always know at least half the people. I ended up not going.i think I was so stressed about the lawyer thing, and it was pouring out (and I go either by scooter or by subway) and I really thought I SHOULD go and would like it, but just COULD NOT bring myself to go.
I'm afraid I might do the same this evening, OR that I go and once again feel myself less trendy, less this less that. I don't feel that usually , but he tends to know quite successful people in his artsy field.
I'm gonna try to have a good and normal day after this high stress week.

Good morning all! Happy Saturday!
Rita- I love hearing about your adventures at the park! How long have you been there, now? Almost a year? A little over a year? Just amazing all of the things you get to do/see and all of the people you get to meet! Fantastic!
Heather- I agree about people who are "in the moment", and about the life of wonder of a child. It has only been since I have had to add to my work load, that I have really appreciated those moments that I enjoy with the kiddos. With the nicer weather and everything budding, blooming and hatching our walks are taking longer and our play is often interrupted by "discoveries". We have been spending more time in my back yard and I just love sitting on my hillside while the babies run up and down the hill to bring me things. Yesterday, I think they picked every wishing flower in my yard and brought it to me to help them "blow". (wishing flower=dandelion puffs) By the time I went in, I had fluff everywhere on me.
Janet R- So sorry you couldn't make your granddaughter's graduation ceremony! I have said it before, she is a beautiful young lady and I am sure you were missed! Hopefully you will be able to make her grad party if she is having one?
Machka- It is beyond me how any one could find fault with how you and your DH are progressing post injury!! Every time you post a new thing your hubby is doing, I am just astounded and thrilled with how things are progressing! Really! IF I remember correctly, the doctor's weren't too confident in his ability to gain much independence post injury. I love that you are encouraging him to get back to the things he loves. IMO, THAT is where he will find his independence! Doing what he loves. Hugs to both of you! Back in the "saddle"!
Femfleur and other new girls- We are a large group; but a wonderful and caring group! Some try to respond to everyone and some (most) of us do a fair amount of skimming the posts. Please do not feel put out that some one didn't respond to you. Not intended to ignore or exclude. I just think most of us are at that age where it is near impossible to keep everything in our heads. Remember to log every bite/sip, keep moving daily, and come visit often! Tell us about your selves and what you wish to be called. Welcome!
Well, Trentin will be here shortly, then we will be off to do the shopping and other errands. His mom/doc are starting him on a new medication for his ADHD this weekend. This makes me a bit nervous as we all are unsure how it will effect him. Also, he will be with me pretty much the entire day and into evening today and tomorrow. (7am-9:30pm both days). I am hoping the meds don't make him too loopy or crazy so that we can do some fun things together, as he will be here so long both days. I do have actual Memorial Day (Monday off). So...I am going to enlist Tim to hang with Trentin for a couple of hours so that I can get the front and back yard mowed. I also need to finish weeding the rock bed around the house and will need to trim trees/bushes and do another burn in the fire pit. Trentin can hang outside while I do the weeding and have a fire. He might help, but most likely will just run around in "imaginary ninja battles". lol
Well, gotta run and get myself ready for the day! Love and hugs to all! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)7 -

Morning, afternoon and evening all,
My wishes go out for a safe and sane Memorial Day weekend to my American counterparts--Corey doesn't get the holiday, as landscaping crews are in full swing this time of year, and breaking things is the nature of the job. He's the fixer, or as he chuckled when they gave him the title, the "Asset Reliability Manager." I'm looking forward to a Monday that's mine, all mine!
My weight is back down to where it was the day of my knee replacement on Feb. 5, 183.5, which makes me very happy. The iron isn't gumming up my system too badly, and the Crohns-type symptoms have completely disappeared after the week of antibiotics, so I'm grateful for my health today, as the respiratory thing that started three days after the antibiotics is also almost cleared up.
After I finish talking to y'all, I'm out to find my grubbing hoe and gloves and start the process of clearing the front flower beds in preparation for putting down weed-stop and mulch. I'll have to channel my mother for a while - she loved gardening, which I honestly do not, but many of my memories involve my mother, head down, butt up in the air, even in her early 70s, evicting weeds from one of her many flower beds. We have an odd genetic trait that, no matter the age, the women in my family have always been able to bend over and put their hands flat on the floor, so bending double for long lengths of time is easy. This is a good thing, because all of us also have bad knees.
Want to get the hard work in before it gets up in the 90-degree range this afternoon, as the whole weekend is supposed to be hot and dry. Honestly a relief after months with rain every single week - and the Arkansas River is supposed to crest at over 41 feet, highest ever recorded, on Sunday. A significant portion of land near the river is under water, but as we live at significantly higher elevations, about six miles up in the foothills, it's not an issue for us. Just feel for the people who are struggling, and it's not even yet as bad as it's going to get.
Love y'all,

Well said!
If I've got time or if something grabs my attention, I'll respond to several. If not, I'll pretty much just post my exercise or I'll skip a day here and there. Or anywhere in between.
Sometimes there are topics going ... like a recent one about fridges. If I've got something to contribute to the current topic, I'll throw my 2 cents in without responding personally to anyone. But when it came to fridges, I didn't have anything to say. I've owned one and only fridge, the one we've got, and I couldn't even tell you what brand it is off hand!!

Ros 's funeral is set for the 12th June. I can get to it, but am waiting for a few more details. It will be very emotional.
Feel very achey today, for no special reason. Hips, legs etc. .......???
Have I ever told you I HATE Bank Holidays! ?! Went out to a local fete this morning, but didn't find anything to buy. Wandered back via our local shops and found some goat meat in the butcher's. I will cook a goat and sweetcorn curry on Monday. It's supposed to be Goan. Delicious, anyway!
Tonight is chicken curry that I previously froze, so I'm going to cook a cauliflower baji to go with it.
Newspaper to read. I have my bank holiday mood on.

I see most gals on this thread do not respond to personals when I do write them.
so then I don't bother that much with writing to them after a while.
A couple tips ...
If you're talking to a certain person, try quoting them. That way they know who you're talking to and the rest of us do too. Then we might join into the conversation.
If you want to attract the attention of a particular person use @bananasandoranges ... that's the @ symbol and your user name. For me it would be @ Machka9 ... without the space in between the @ and the Machka9. When you use @ and the person's user name, it sends that person a notification.
That way, if we're busy and only have time to skim, we can go directly to the post where our name is mentioned.

Hi Ladies, I'm so pleased to have found you again (I was here some years ago). Allow me to re-introduce myself - I'm Geri, live in UK with OH Derek. We have 2 gorgeous grandsons that are my world. I have yoyo'd for years but am now at my heaviest & my knees have been slowly getting worse so I have a hospital appt to discuss knee surgery next month. I'm pretty sure the advice will be loose weight before surgery is contemplated so once again, its time for me to get serious.
Looking forward to getting to know you.
Best wishes

Today marks my fifth day of healthy eating. Now to stay with it. I read all thirty two posts from the time I was here yesterday. But to post to every one would take hours. I did that years ago but know the group got to big.
So good luck to all of you trying to lose those extra lbs.
Working the garden is supper healthy and great exercise.
Move more eat less. the only way to get to where we want to get.

stunning Machka~ I just threw laundry in dryer and vacuumed.. lots of dirt.. ugh.. waiting on my brother to come get my old kitchen table and chairs, and will bring my stuff out of storage for the summer...my upstairs neighbor is the music director at church and she is upstairs playing the piano, I have my windows open, so I am enjoying the music...slowly getting things in order..
and remembering all of those who sacrificed for our freedom xoxo2 -
Linda good to see you!
DS finally starting to talk to us. It is a relief to see he is finally on the mend. He will be going home later this week. He is considering taking legal action. I encourage him as for no other reason he needs to get his sense of safety and personal power back after what happened to him.
Again my hope is that mental illness be treated like any other serious medical condition and the well fare of the person comes first. When a person is having an episode it is just as serious as a diabetic crash, a stroke, a heart attack. The sooner treatment is given the better the outcome for the person involved.
I have been doing energy healing and ancestral healing using tools I read and youtube on the internet. I particularly like the image of calling on St. Micheal and surrounding myself and loved ones in a blue light. For many reasons that image sings to me.
If I do decide to find someone who does Reiki energy healing I know I have to feel this is the right person for me. Several of the articles I read suggest creating rituals that work for you. I also know creating routines would help too. This is something that has always been a struggle for me.
I am also working on a solo of singing the prayer of Francis of Assisi. I find that healing too. My vocal coach is now going to be the new choir director. It turns out at my old church the hired a director I love too. I hope to sing with my old choir as often as I can. It is nice to have two great choices!

@LisaInAR -good job getting weight back down so quickly after surgery. I am losing back the weight from my two hip replacements and was not as diligent as you!
@Machka9 -good news about your husband back on bike. I admire you for doing the right thing for him. I know from my own experience that the "in sickness and in health" is very real and can be taxing-but providing the support and love is what we are supposed to do.
As many have said, so much going on here, impossible to respond to all!
Positive thoughts to those experiencing life's trials. I am storing away your strategies for when I need them.
Happy Saturday to all--off to get something healthy at grocery store.0 -
Good morning!
Thanks for the good thoughts on my visit to the endodontist... had a few problems but all is well now. One more appointment with my regular dentist and it will be done.
Welcome new ladies ... someone a while back asked how many are on this board. I would say a lot more than the “regulars” you see post (many read without commenting) and people come and go depending on where they are in their health journey. A reminder ... this is a public group and what you post can be seen and searched by anyone who chooses to look. Having said that, I could care less what the world knows about me ... but I am careful to protect the privacy of others I know and mention in my own posts.
After working in the yard yesterday, my husband thought we might call some contractors and get quotes for some of our other projects.
Picked up a 15# kettlebell yesterday ... loved the look of surprise when the young checkout guy picked it up. I’m making progress!
Have a good weekend!

We are still in the midst of tornadoes, raining/flooding every afternoon and evening. It will last for the next week or so they are saying. About 30 miles Northwest of OKC where I lived when I first moved to Oklahoma the Cimmaron river is flooding and 8 houses have been swept into the river so far with several more on the brink. Very sad.
I continue to exercise every morning, still want to lose 10 more pounds but they seem to have taken up residence. I hope the following does not offend, but it cracked me up this morning.
Love you my friends,

@Patchworkperson Welcome back.
@sparkle43 Welcome. We are an eclectic group of older gals who love to be supportive. Tell us what you would like to be called and where you are.
@Machka9 I can’t get over the incompetence of that RTW team you have been saddled with.
Well folks, second try to post. I have had a bit of a stressful time. Three weeks ago, my left knee problem recurred, then, a couple of days later, I I got a cruddy sinus/throat virus. On 10/05 we went on our holiday to Croatia, but neither of us was really fit enough to do the scheduled walks. Despite this, we pockled about at our own pace and managed to have a lovely time. However, moving hotels twice during the week was not a good idea. Then on Wednesday last week, I tripped on a step, landied on my already crook knee, and staved my right wrist and elbow. (They do say things happen in 3s! Lol!) Each if these on its own would have been a minor inconvenience, but one by one, they reduced me to a frustrated helpless baby who could barely walk or feed herself.
However, I may have been down, but I am not out.- Knee pain has subsided and I can now walk fairly normally and, although daily steps are reduced, I am working them back up
- Cruddy virus is almost gone
- Doing physio on my elbow is gradually restoring its previous mobility although it has gone through several lurid bruise stages.
Hope everyone enjoys whatever plans you have for the holiday weekend.
I’m just back from the brilliant touring GoTs exhibition in Belfast with my DYD and DH, which was my daughter’s treat as part of my birthday present at Easter.
💖 GoTs! Can’t wait until the final series is out on 📀

Heather: I’m with Machka on this one. Holidays are usually a good thing in my experience. Living in a "resort town" is bound to include an influx of tourists, and anyplace with a beach qualifies as a resort town in my experience. The Fourth of July is a challenge where we live due to many fireworks for a whole week. We can deal with it, but our dog cannot. Now we leave town and go someplace where there are no loud fireworks. We used to take our boat to a lovely and quiet anchorage but DH can’t do that anymore so we now take the RV someplace quiet. :ohwell:
Sparkle43: Welcome! :flowerforyou:
Geri: I’m sympathetic. I have a bad knee, too, and have to keep my weight down to relieve pain. I’ve had a bump up in weight and am working on getting back to goal in order to get rid of knee pain in my left knee.
Linda in N Ontario: Welcome back!!!
Machka: I love the photos. Are you sure it is winter there? Beautiful!!! :flowerforyou:
Janetr: I’m sorry about the tornado situation where you live. It seems like Oklahoma has had more than its share or weather damage already this year.
Yesterday the boat mechanic completed his annual work to be sure the systems are all working well on our boat. Now it is my turn to wash the outside. It looks awful. I’ll do it on the first warm day available. I take my power washer down and get every bit of dust and dirt off of the outside. Today I am planning to go horseback riding with a friend at the stable. So far the weather isn’t looking the greatest so we may wind up riding in the arena.
