Nike is finally realizing that not all of us athletic wearers are a size 2!
"The athletic wear giant debuted curvy mannequins this week on the new women’s floor at its flagship store in London to showcase figures of all shapes and sizes. The women’s floor in its Oxford Street store features a plus-size mannequin front and center dressed in a black sports bra and matching leggings with her hands stretching above her head."

That’s fantastic to see!2 -

I ran 3.36 miles at lunch today. It was hot, hot, hot, but I did it anyway. And I will not complain about the "heat" at 6 in the morning any more. Or at least not for a couple of runs. Now I remember why I get up early and run before work. But there were thunderstorms this morning when I got up and lightning strikes 1.3 miles away were just too close for me so I had to run at lunch. 75°f is definitely better than 86°f. It was still a good run though. I just wish I had enough time to get 5 miles instead of 3.

Goal....55 miles.
Getting ready for work. Will try to keep up with the thread later in the week.

I slept poorly last night, up for a couple hours, so when my alarm sounded I reset it for another hour. I'm glad I was able to get back to sleep, as I usually don't. But that meant I didn't have time for my run this morning. Rather than try to do it after work in the blazing afternoon sun, or skip it entirely, I took an early lunch and got it done. Now I'm really looking forward to the lower temperatures in the forecast for the next couple of days.7 -

The usual treadmill warm-up before strength/circuit training. Circuit training was tough today - 40 minutes of as many rounds as possible of a bunch of stuff including 500 m row, mace squats, TRX rows, prisoner lunges, wall ball shots, and floor press. I think that's it. It went on forever, is all I know and we got about 3 1/2 rounds in.
I signed up for a 10-mile race on the 4th of July. I haven't done this one yet but people seem to like it. It's bound to be hot I would think, but the weather's been weird lately so who knows. I'm also considering another Spartan race in July, but you probably aren't surprised. I'm feeling kind of strange not to have any races this weekend or next but that is a good thing. I really need to get back to a more regular training schedule, especially getting the long runs in. Not so good on that front lately.
Upcoming races:
7/4/2019 Cazenovia July 4th Foot Race (10 miles), Cazenovia, NY
7/14/2019 Boilermaker 15k , Utica, NY
8/10/2019 Boston Super Spartan Race, Charlton, MA
10/19/2019 I-35 Challenge KC Half Marathon, Kansas City
10/20/2019 I-35 Challenge DSM Half Marathon, Des Moines

Nice! I have those same shorts - pretty much my go-to for long runs and races now. They are so comfortable!
They're good aren't they. Cheap and comfy. They're also the reason I have strange tan marks across the middle of my thighs lol
Haha, yes, I was gonna mention the tan lines too! But my phone fits in the back zipper pocket! I may be getting a second pair in case I wear these out1 -

Yay! Both feet off the ground. Awesome pic.2 -
I counter all your "it's so hot" posts with a "we had our first frost" post.
Rather chilly out, made me want to go faster just to warm up. Never really did. After 5km my feet had gone from cold to completely numb!

Totally. For summer running I have to adjust my pace a couple of MINUTES per mile slower and I find myself constantly reminding other runners to lower their expectations as the temperature climbs.
Also, watch Dew Point, as that climbs during summer heat the more you will hate your run.5 -
It has been such a long week already and it's only Tuesday! I'm a teacher and it's the last 2 weeks of school. Report cards are due and my kiddos have some big provincial tests to write. It's been a pretty high stress week...
I felt really slow and sluggish on my run today.
Today's run: 4km, 29:00
Distance so far: 28km
June distance goal: 50km10 -
Add me to the list of people running in the heat and humidity! It was supposedly 96 when we left the house, then showered while we were driving to the park and cooled off quite a bit, but was so humid steam was visibly rising from the pavement. Dewpoint 75, which is officially yucky.
Saw another bunny! And a deer leaped across the path in front of us.
My favorite sighting of the day was a heavy woman who we often see walking during our runs. She has been doing this for a few months now and gradually improving in fitness - when we first saw her, her gait was sort of lumbering slowly, and more recently she has been walking briskly. Today she was RUNNING! Yay good for her! I wish there were a way of saying, “Hey, good job,” without sounding patronizing. I gave her a big smile when we passed though.
@eleanorhawkins Great photo, as @ContraryMaryMary said you have both your feet off the ground! Mine always catch me at that exact moment when you have one foot on the ground and look like you’re in a Funny Walk contest.
@katharmonic I think it’s amazing that you can do the rings and almost finish the rope climb now. You are definitely inspirational to me.9 -

Depends on what country you go by. In the USA the first day of summer is June 21, but some other countries use different days:
https://metro.co.uk/2019/05/30/first-day-summer-2019-uk-9738658/
If you're in the UK it is rumoured to start at some point in July or August and last approximately 45 minutes, during which 16 hosepipe bans will be enforced and 784 people will need treatment for heatstroke. Foreigners will be forced to remove a layer.
This is sadly true. You can always tell a Brit abroad as they will be the ones stripping off the minute the sun comes out (and then the ones scarlet from sunburn). They will also be the ones on the beach wrapped in all the clothes when it is bucketing down and blowing a hoolie, because they are on holiday and THAT IS WHAT YOU DO.
We had a hot day in February (I was ill in bed). Since then I've got back out the winter jacket, and haven't needed a t-shirt yet.
Astronomical summer officially starts on 21st June, meteorological summer on 1st June. All I can say is that there's no sign of it yet, and all we have out there is wetness.

Lol my Dad, who is as British as they come, is the complete opposite. They came to visit us, in southern Spain, in August. We went to the beach. He went in jeans and a T-shirt. Then complained about how hot it was and almost passed out. The rest of us were in swimsuits and in the water. Yet I've seen him in shorts in the UK when I was wearing 3 jumpers. The mind boggles sometimes.
Please send me some wetness. Someone said they'd looked at the long term forecasts and there is not a drop of rain predicted here now until October at the very least.

8 miles this morning. Left calf was complaining pretty much from the start, but just felt like muscle soreness. At about 5 miles it was hurting pretty bad, and wanted to stop, but was 3 miles from home. Hoping ice and a couple days rest will make it all better.
Just noticed the old Ghost 11's have 442 miles on them. Probably need to look for replacements and take them out of the rotation. Usually when injuries start, it is because I have let the shoes go past their usefulness.

No rain, but 100% humidity this morning. I ended my running streak on Sunday. Sometimes the stress and pressure from trying to get it done outweigh the benefits of doing it. Such was the case on Sunday but I’m ok with it. The world didn’t stop turning.

This morning called for 2 miles. I didn't get out quite as early as I probably should have to have enough time for stretching and cooldown. BUT it was a great run. There was a border collie that raced to the fence as we came up, initiating about 20 seconds of the dogs arguing while I tried to convince mine that running was more fun. That was still my fastest half mile. Ha! The dogs all ignored each other when we ran past on the way home. Sometimes I just don't know what they're thinking.
ANYway. I got my third fastest mile according to Strava and wasn't even pushing much. HR was 31% Zone 3, 47% Zone 2 and the rest in zone 1. My average pace was 1.5 minutes per mile faster than yesterday's midday run, which was 56% in Zone 3, 23% in Zones 4 and 5 (total) and felt sooo much harder.7 -

sorry to disappoint, but we do muggy pretty well here too, so if humidity is a problem, that won't help. When it's cold, it's also DAMP cold. The kind of cold that gets into your bones and the only way our is a long hot bath. This makes minus 14 degrees C in Canada cold feels less cold than zero degrees C British cold.1 -

Which reminds me, I really have got to figure out how to incorporate some lifting and swimming. I think I can restart that sally challenge at least. We have that yard algae and I was carrying a heavy bag of baking soda (15 lbs), after a rain to sprinkle it, my arm was sore for two days. It’s rained again, I need to go sprinkle more but am so weak, I don’t look forward to it. The back is worse, I can push the spreader and save my noodle arms. I also have the legs of a non runner now... so I may have to take breaks spreading... *so pathetic*8 -

I ran 5.1 miles this morning. It was really nice. It was pretty humid, but it was only 68F so it was a lot better than yesterday. And it is supposed to hit 100 today so I definitely won't complain. The heat definitely affects my pace, but I've been able to keep it under 11 min/miles so I feel pretty good about that.
2019 races:
2/2/19: Catch the Groundhog Half Marathon - PR 2:15:17
5/18/19: Run for 57th AHC Half Marathon - Cancelled due to weather9 -
Did some basic weight machines, shoulders and biceps. Worked the good leg, glutes, quads and gastroc .i did the gimpy leg, just very little weight and practically no resistance.
Then I tried this elliptical bike kinda thing for about 3 minutes. First bit of hip pain and I stop. It's a start.
... then I swam for 10 minutes with paddles and flippers. My arms already fell like noodles.
Thanks for inspiring me to get out today. Maybe I can make this a habit.13 -
