Glad I found this thread. I'm getting back on track after a 4 month hiatus. My Mom was sick and I used that as an excuse to forget about my own health. I lost 10 pounds in the last year since joining MFP. 10 pounds to go. I'm 63 and body is holding on to weight. Ik, eat better and exercise more.

A lesson that I learned only recently and can apply to your parents and children as well.

JoJo, i have breakfast, trying to have plenty of protein and as little sugar or carbs as I can. I’m eating about 35% protein, 30% carbs and 35% fat, so I plan the rest of my day’s eating keeping those numbers and my calorie limit in mind. I try to keep my total carbs under 100g, and my protein at 75g or above. My total sugars are below 35. I eat more veggies, grains and seafoods, keep away from fruit juices in preference to whole fruits, and I avoid potatoes (except sweet potatoes) and white rice and pasta. That doesn’t mean I don’t have them, but I keep portions smaller. I eat lots of fish and shellfish and of course chicken and turkey, although I prefer dark meat because it’s moister and has more flavor. Then I adjust at each mean if I vary from what I planned.
I drink decaf coffee, tea and what my family called “water juice”. It’s that fruit flavored water that sells in about 1liter bottles at mostgrocery stores for about 80¢ to $1. Each chain seems to have their own brand. I actually gag on plain water unless it’s cold. I use flavoring drops and that helps. I use artificial sweeteners, but can’t stand the taste of stevia.
Everyone’s plan is their own, but I hope telling you about mine helps. I had weight loss surgery in January, but my dietician has me on regular food at 100% now.

Janetr extra prayers for granddaughter. The caregiver needs care too especially since she is pregnant. Sooo sorry this happened to your family.1

Sharon: I am looking at my pie chart for the day & currently have 40% protein, 24% carbs & 36% fat. I always hope to have equal thirds by the end of the day, but it doesn’t always happen. DH is on a Gluten Free diet. I still eat bread containing gluten but we have gluten free breads for him. I like his gluten free buns better than anything else for a hamburger but make my sandwiches from regular sourdough bread. We have learned to be flexible and to support one another’s food needs.
(((Janetr))) Continued prayers for your granddaughter & her young man.

Well thought I posted last Friday, but can not find it. My mind is still in a fog. Had a nice weekend. Saturday did somethings around the house and then yesterday after church went to Lincoln to visit my brother and his wife as she was back in the hospital. She has ALS and is vent dependit. Had some infection in the trach, but sounds like they are going home today. DB does a great job taking care of her, but it's a lot of work. Then stopped to she my friend in rehab from the stroke. She is doing well.
Lanette--Those are the kinds of letters that turn the day into a great day!
Heather--That is a very good picture of the two of you. Thanks for sharing. Sorry to hear about your friend and the cancer. I agree we need to take care of ourselves and enjoy each day as we can. Love the picture of all of you together. That is a keeper. I love pictures and my family knows I take a lot. I have everyone written on and in photo books labeled with the dates and what is going on. Have over 30 so far. I tell my kids when I am old and in the home my books will keep me happy and when anyone in the family wants a picture for anything they come to me.
Barbara--Sorry to hear about Scooter, but you know when the time is right. It is never easy and I find myself second guessing myself everytime. But in the end I have peace. Sending hugs and prayers.
Connie--Fun day and congrates on your win and smaller size. I was surprised when I went to a bra fitting that I worn a lot smaller size then I thought. Was great how much better a fit I got.
Margaet--I grew in a family of drinkers and most of all my brothers drink a lot. I have not had a drink in just over 13 years and know that all it takes is one.
Janetr--cute picture of Flash kissing Haven.
I am up to page 17 and running out of time for today.

Today is National Work Like a Dog Day!
"On August 5, National Work Like A Dog Day urges us to charge forth and meet every challenge we face. However, if you look to your dog for direction, confusion may set in. 'It’s a dog’s life' refers to dogs being able to laze around and sleep all day. On the other hand, 'work like a dog' suggests just the opposite. Either way, work like a dog for the rewards of a dog’s life."
Janet - My heart goes out to you and your family. Your granddaughter and her young man sure have a lot of adult stuff to get through. Wishing him a full recovery.
Barbie - Wow, divine guidance doesn't get much more direct than it did for your friend!
Amber - We've tried Hello Fresh, Blue Apron, and Home Chef. We were on Home Chef the longest, but my observation regarding all of these services is that calorie counts are generally higher than what I cook on my own even if you select their "lighter" options. They are not so high that I can't work them into my plan, though. We liked them all but for now we've quit and are trying to move forward on our own. My husband has agreed to pick meals for the week and buy the ingredients if I'll do the cooking.
As you can see, I'm back! And "Work Like A Dog Day" is appropriate because that's what I've been doing for the last three months. I quit double-tracking between Noom and MFP because I just didn't have time for both, but now that my Noom subscription has ended I'll be back over here again.
I've been just trying to hang on, but now that things are starting to settle down a little bit with work it's time to recommit and redouble my efforts. I still have at least 30 pounds to lose. Going for walkies has turned out to be a bad idea for me and Luna both, as the last time we went out around 7:30 p.m. she showed signs of heat exhaustion and Philip had to come pick us up. Scared me because I still think of her as my puppy even though she's six now.
We're planning a trip to Colorado next February to go cross country skiing, which I've missed dearly since we moved back to Texas. This indoor-only weather is giving me lots of opportunities to resume workouts on the Nordic Track to get those muscles back in shape.
Whether you are working like a dog or living a dog's life, I'm wishing you a wonderful day!

Yvonne-Tx -Thankyou that’s what I needed to know. Think I’ll dig further into meal prep cause with High blood pressure to calories restrictions definitely can do more with this method. I’ll tell my cousins we are looking into options as a team.Lol but we’re all on different diets.Meal Prep I’m able to make 100cal- 500cal meals grab the amount I want when still hungry.

How do I ask someone to be my friend on here? I’ve used MFP in the past, but it’s been years. Im looking for active and motivated friends.1

Many people on this thread don't accept friend requests. Not out of meanness. It's just a personal preference. If you want to join us on this thread, just bookmark us by clicking on the pale yellow star top right corner of this page. You don't have to add us as friends to join in.
To request a friend: Click on the name of the person you want to be friends with. This will pop up a box where you will click on the person's name again. That will take you to their profile, where there is an option to add them as friend.

Machka-I like the look of the website. Colors are sharp and easy on the eyes. Not too jumbled up.
Heather UK – nice dress. I would never have confidence to wear something like that!
Janetr OKC- horrible looking wreck. Prayers for his recovery.
Reading of those who had/have difficult relationships with their mothers makes me feel more grateful for mine. She was widowed in early 30s (I was six months old), and she fought to raise my three older brothers and me. I lived with my grandmother most of the first 9 years, but mom was always around. We had difficult spells in our relationship, but somewhere in my 20s I realized that I may not have done any better if I had been dealt her hand of cards, so the rest of our time was good. I held her in my arms when she died just shy of 87. But you are correct-we don't have to like all of our relatives.
Had a good day. Now off to work on a cross-stitch pattern I have been neglecting. I has a lot of the metallic thread, but I have decided it is not going to beat me!

Hi Gals,
Barbara – sending hugs! This is a hard thing to do but doing it at home was a god send for me.
Allie – you’re doing awesome on the weight loss!!
Heather – WOW you look great!
Janetr – Oh my, I hope the young man comes through this and is ok. Your family seems to come together to support each other certainly in this situation the two families will get to know each other.

Margeez - I don’t add even if I see the person as a friend. Just like my food lists to other stuff like measurements to be private until I want to share it.Plus many of us have been hurt a lot in the past. I had a bunch of Gal pals when I was younger all but 2 slept with my now ex-husband so hard to trust after that. Out of those 2 friends one started to do drugs with her brothers well I had to walk away. So only 1 old childhood friend left now she used to live with us as a kid for awhile so we’re thick as night. She’s my kids Godmom because of our past together we call each other sisters might as well my Dad y our 2 moms raised us with my Aunt y Uncle...good news also is she gets any complaints about my Moms family she lived through it with me lol so technically she’s family can’t be called friend anymore . So haven’t gotten close after all that anymore Hubby wants to protect me so he’s supportive of it feels the same about his own.So were just a friendless old couple lol 😂.That’s not cliche at all! Here’s the only real women I talk to other than my kid y Sister (friend). I even keep in-laws at a distance except mom in-law.

About caught up.
Heather- love the dress. Can you sit down?
Allie- didn’t see what happened at work. Hopefully it will a turning point for you. Good luck.
