This is a new month with a clean slate and the promise of the opportunity to make changes and maintain good habits on the journey to health, fitness, weight loss, and well-being.
I have taken this journey for a few years in the company of so many great women on this thread and I am eager to continue.
The name of the thread is "Women Ages 50+" but all women are welcome.
It has helped me to log food and exercise daily and to participate in this thread. I hope that all who are reading this will choose to join in on the conversation and benefit from the support and encouragement that it offers.
Be sure to bookmark the thread so you can find it again. Also, sign your post with a name or nickname that will be easy for others to remember and a general geographic location.

The reason most people fail instead of succeed is that they trade what they want the MOST for what they want at the MOMENT.
My word for 2019 is "pause".

Thanks Barbie, I am so far behind in October I need to catch up!1

Thanks Barbie.
On Halloween I stay by the door reading and catching up on the computer. We have had about 30 so far. It is slower than last year. It is also colder 32 degrees. No snow though. We were here when we had a blizzard on Halloween with a foot of snow in 1991. Someone posted a picture on Facebook of how bad it was. So far haven't gotten the groups of ten either. Great costumes. One was a Gorilla and Rita would have enjoyed the green alien.
I give out two treats to those I know and if it is a small group. The bigger groups I have given out one. Now that is 8 I will more than likely start giving out two so I will not end up with much. I buy enough for 100. The most we have had was about 120. That is too many. I like this year just the right amount are coming.

Thank you. Your comments are true. I do want to loose weight but trade it for one small moment of satisfaction. I needed this!!!’n2

Lol should have read this before the 7 pieces of Halloween candy or the calories on a bag yikes 80cal per tee my tiny piece!!! I’m over my calories big time now.

It's still Halloween out here in Pacific Standard Time and that's a good thing, I guess. I blew it today! Started out strong then - bam. One beer and out go all my good intentions. Look at my diary and weep, lol. I do this too often.
Good new is tomorrow is November, and there are no real opportunities to overindulge in November, right? Right?

Well ... there aren't any events ... and summer is almost here so we can get out and be active more often ...
Yesterday was a lovely 27C (81F) and today hit 31C (88F). I'd love it to be between 25C and 35C until the end of April, but we're too close to Antarctica for that. So we just enjoy occasional days of warmth.
Machka in Oz3 -
Watching weather the total for snow in 1991 was 28 inches from that storm. My memory did not want to remember that. I do remember we had snow from October to April that year.
Because of the cold we did get fewer trick and treaters. I actually enjoyed it more having the smaller numbers. It was 30-40.2 -

Barbie thank you for setting up the link for November and Kelly thank you for posting it. Love the group effort!
October was a wash out for me for weight loss, but November is a new month and I do intend to try harder. My only goal this month is to log my food every day, the good, the bad and the downright ugly. Regrettably, that still happens.....sigh.
We didn't do anything for the few trick or treaters that ventured up our (private) road. Some of our neighbours did tho, so their trek was not in vain. I didn't get home til after 6 and just too tired to want to be jumping up and down giving out candy. Although I don't think too many kids came up here, so probably wouldn't have been too bad. I have to say, tho, I was quite annoyed with some of the folks that were out on the streets. I drove normal speed on the arterial roads, but slowed right down when I got to the residential area. I turned onto the street that leads to ours and the kids on the street weren't the problem, it was the adults! The kids had the sense to get onto the sidewalk, but a couple of parents were standing in the middle of the street! I couldn't really go around the two on "my" side of the road because there were a couple more on the other side, but still ON the road! Honestly, what is the matter with these people! The one fellow finally realized that there was a car there (me!) and I was stopped by that time. Stupid, stupid adults! Thanks, rant over now! lol
Hope everyone has a great day/evening/night!
Hugs to those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

Thank you Barbie for getting November going, havent got much sleep because of the wind..3

Thank you Barbie (with an assist from KJ for the win!) and November for me is an exact repeat of the beginning of October:
Barbie - Many, many thanks for your steadfast presence here... and dedication to keeping us all present!
Goal for October - Be lighter going out than I was going in. Nope, didn't make it. 1 pound heavier today than Oct. 1.
I did (and will) continue to go to the gym faithfully five or six times each week.
I also have finally learned to sleep an average of seven hours a night.
Goal for November -- Log my food, every bite, as Evelyn said, good, bad or ugly.
- Lose three pounds.
- Hold the gains I've made in self-care, including exercise and sleep habits.
Busy day ahead - taking my husband to work, scrambling back home to change into Girl Scout uniform (navy & white business clothes, Girl Scout scarf, badges, pins, etc.) and back out to a Chamber of Commerce breakfast at the university where the new chancellor is speaking. Hopefully get a chance to shake her hand and introduce myself. Back home to finish up my federal grant (which that same chancellor approved yesterday), and hopefully get it submitted in the online portal. Then if there are issues, they'll get it back to me and I'll have Monday and Tuesday to fix them.
Looks like I'm traveling to Dallas in December to sit down to talk to a foundation executive director with my CEO - but my husband and I are going to use it for an excuse to burn a couple of his vacation days and he'll drive me down and back. Look forward to that, not interested in flying these days.
Anyway,
Off we go into November,
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa in Arkansas7 -
Thanks Barbie and Kelly!
Friend's visit has been grand, lots of chat, walking, fun, food, wine and beer. Logged every lick bite and sip, regret nothing.
Lisa I believe you will too! (Oct pg 77).
Michele 30 mins walk away the pounds BEFORE your blood test? I'd keel over. ;} so sorry to hear your bridge troubles. How frustrating!
Allie con VERY gratulations on both the 51 lbs and having the courage to email your wants to your boss. Boo to him and Yay for the vision board.
Amber 5 minutes with a 2yr old photo ROTMLAO! I do not like the sound of that church's rules about childcare and glad you won't entrust JR to them. IMHO, those mega church pictures don't look much to me like a house of prayer...
Pip “an apple a day...” LOL! Safe travels.
Yvonne I hear ya. Joe just ate a maple iced custard filled doughnut after his oatmeal with dried fruits and nuts breakfast. How much to you want to bet that when he weighs in at the Dr's tomorrow his weight is down? “Haunted Refrigerator Night” LOL!
Katla what is it with keyless keys? I misplaced mine yesterday and haven't yet found it. Ugh.
Heather So sorry to hear your DH's aunt's ordeal, so grateful her neighbor noticed the open door and called the police. Happy “houseiversary”. What is a “biscuity” champagne? Sweet like cookies?
Vicki hugs to your DGD and son for Cocoa's loss. Bless them for taking her in when the neighbors just left her. :noway:
Kim Brava for trying to teach your nephew that there is no magic bucket of $$ out there. Might also hint about the consequences to those who sue frivolously...
Ginny in OH Brava for persisting with pt despite the pain. Sometimes alternating heat with ice can hasten healing.
Sh0tz99 Just added Geography of Bliss to my Library list. Thanks!
Kelly con VERY gratulations on your October successes!
Karen in VA Thanks for the Jared Box info. https://www.projectgivingkids.org/nonprofits/the-jared-box-project/ Reminds me of when I was in hospital at 12 for an appendectomy. Lovely dear lady friend of family wrapped several small gifts, one for each day I was hospitalized. Really looked forward to choosing and opening each daily package. Some were toys or puzzles, some were personal care items, it was just the joy of having something to look forward to and a little surprise that was so memorable.
Welcome Rebasporty1, sorry mfp can't restore your former id.
Margaret your blueberry “pie” sounds delish!
Beth that produce looks amazing for NY state in almost-November ?!?
Rori good thoughts for your brother's interview. What a great bday present that new job would be. Admire your “with knowledge comes relief” attitude. Healing thoughts sent your way.
Lanette, think I'll put off reading “Being Mortal” for awhile, sounds a bit too grim. Is there a Better Bones and Balance class near you? I've only been doing it for 4 weeks, and already notice a difference, going down stairs, in confidence. My friend who comes once a year really noticed a difference, she says I'm much steadier on the trails and she must be right, didn't think to bring my walking sticks on any of our hikes. And YES to dancing, not just for cardio, and strengthening legs, and balance but for our brains too. Dance on! Your DH falls once a week? Would he be open to any balance exercises?
JenniferM1234 no opportunities for overindulgence in November? Well, maybe if you live in Australia like Machka...
Welcome jperun and skyhighstiletto!
Inspired by Lisa's assessment of what's working and what's not, will give some serious thought over the coming days. Today was last day of friend's visit and while I've been logging and exercising, food and alcohol have gone off the charts.

Hello everyone.
It's a new month! It's hard to believe it is already November and the holiday season is here. The time has certainly flown by this year and I am looking forward to the holiday gatherings and socializing. Listed below is my October wrap up. My November goals will be listed in another post.
October Wrap Up- Eating Plan – I recorded and tracked everything I ate and continued with meal planning.
- Water Intake Goal – 64 Ounces per Day – Missed meeting this goal 4 days this month.
- Weight Loss Goal - 6 Pounds – Total Lost – 9 Pounds
- Exercise Plan – Met cardio goals. Weight training not so much. Will make a better effort here.
- Plank Challenge Goal Was 60 Minutes of Planks in October – Total Minutes – 22
- Desk – I did not take apart and get rid of the desk in my guest room/old office. I finally realized why this goal has been so difficult for me. It was the first piece of furniture Charlie and I purchased and put together in our new home, 25 years ago. I think subconsciously I feel like I am deconstructing our life together. I am going to work on this because I know things are not memories. My memories will be there until they are not and nothing will bring them back, if that’s my destiny. Death does not stop love.
I attribute most of the weight loss to sticking to my guns with my caloric intake, 1200 calories per day, no matter what I am eating and moving more as I do mundane tasks. I also do not eat my exercise calories since I am not burning 1000s of calories per day. I have also been drinking 8, 8-ounce glasses of water each day. I found an article on MSN yesterday detailing what happens to our bodies when we ensure we are properly hydrated. Not only is our cognition increased we also burn 23 calories drinking a half a liter/17 ounces (I consider that a 2-4-1. We are not only doing something good for ourselves we are burning calories). This isn’t the exact link, but this article mentions several good things regarding weight loss and decreased appetites when we are properly hydrated.
https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/drinking-water-helps-with-weight-loss#section2
Just in case you cannot use the link. Here are some extracts.- A study of overweight women examined the effects of increasing water intake to over 1 liter (34 oz) per day. Several other studies have monitored overweight people who drank 1-1.5 liters (34–50 oz) of water daily for a few weeks. They found a significant reduction in weight, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference and body fat found that over a 12-month period, this resulted in an extra 2 kg (4.4 lbs) of weight loss.
- Some people claim that drinking water before a meal reduces appetite. There actually seems to be some truth behind this, but almost exclusively in middle-aged and older adults.
- After one school year, the risk of obesity had been reduced by a whopping 31% in the schools where water intake was increased.
I hope everyone finds their inner strength today to overcome the obstacles life has put before them. My favorite WW coach was full of little motivational sayings. One of my favorites still is, “Nothing tastes as good as thin feels.”.
