Question: If I don't tell my husband and daughter that my aunts in the UK sent us cash in their xmas cards and I spend it all on race entry fees, does that make me a bad person?
If they sent it to "you as a group of people to share" - then yes.
If they sent it to "specifically you to do with as you want" - then no.
What if nobody said anything about who they were sending it to? I mean the xmas cards are addressed to all of us, but also in the envelopes were birthday cards for me for Wednesday. So if it didn't actually say anywhere who or what the money was for, I could assume it's for my birthday, right? Right???
Running stops me murdering either of them (or any of his family) so we could say that spending it on races for me also benefits them......
@Camaramandy648 Dammit, I always wish I hadn't told mine stuff after having done so too LOL
Count yourself as two people or two holidays (your birthday + Christmas) and divide it by 3. My dad sends a check each year and I just divide it evenly five ways. My little man just gets it chunked in his bank account. My mom sends Monsanto but it's individual.
Just adding that ultimately it's your money, addressed to you from your family and what you do with it is your business. I won't tell...
Hehehe yeah we're talking 20€ here, if I follow that method we'd end up with 5€ each (which is like 5 dollars and a few cents). I think me not murdering them if probably worth more than the coffee and a donut they would spend their portions on! Especially as I can get 3 races out of it!

😂 I agree0 -
@LoveyChar Your poor knees! I’m so glad the little one was okay. How sore and/or swollen are they after having time to set up?
@mbaker566 @polskagirl01 being sick is no fun, hope you are both better soon.
I hope everyone who celebrates had a delightful Christmas! I’m 90% over my cold now but my husband is still miserable. We ran 5k yesterday anyway, because we were both feeling crazy from not running and also I am gaining weight stupid fast. I know intellectually that I’m still logging and eating under my maintenance calories and can’t really have gained 5 pounds of fat in a week, but the combo of not running plus that number is freaking me out.
Really really wanted to get out there and run on Christmas, the weather was balmy and bright, but my husband was too sick, neither one of us had gotten any sleep (extended family gets up earlier than we do) plus too much family stuff to do. I think the weather laughs at us mortals, I had bought the cutest Christmas sweater and it ended up being t-shirt weather. I kept imagining all the tiny children being crammed into tiny adorable Christmas coats for church and photos despite the weather because darn it, it won’t fit by next year!
Was Santa good to everyone? Santa brought me the new Brooks Adrenaline 20s, flip mitts, a new heat reflective headband to replace the one that got stolen, darn tough socks, and a pair of snow boots which are really easy to zip on and off for wearing after running wet winter trails.
I tried the Adrenaline 20s yesterday and the jury is still out. I love the 18s, but skipped the 19s because they seemed to throw my weight to the outside of my foot. The 20s on paper are made the same as the 19s - “guide rails” instead of a medial post - but don’t seem to have quite the same issue side to side. However, they have their own set of issues. They are noticeably soft and springy compared to the 18s, but instead of the return being forward, they seem to bounce straight UP and kill the momentum. Also, after only 2 miles the stabilization muscles in my hips were really feeling worked out. And most annoyingly my arches felt tired after running. I may be able to use them once I get used to them, but they are definitely not a shoe I can just put on and run and feel great, like the old version. Apparently many people agree with me since they currently have 55% one star reviews on Run repeat, all saying, “Quit changing the shoe!” But I am almost out of my hoarded shoes from year before last and can’t find an acceptable replacement, so I have to find something that works.4 -
@rheddmobile Glad you are almost over your cold. Hope your DH gets better soon! This weather is crazy warm for this time of year. I'm trying to get out and enjoy it while it lasts.
I went shopping this morning. For some reason, that always wears me out. So, I had talked myself into just going for a nice, quick walk and save running for tomorrow, when the weather is going to be a little warmer. Not that the weather was bad today - 61°F and cloudy. I was feeling really good after the 2 mile walk, so decided to change into my running clothes and hit the road for a couple of miles. Then, if I felt good, go further. If not, I gave myself permission to quit. Well, I wound up running 3.25 miles! I was happy with that. With my cool down walk, I traveled a total of 5.75 miles today.

@rheddmobile - have you looked at the Adrenaline 18's on eBay? I don't know what size you want but there are some listed there, new and used. I found a pair of the Topo ST-2s there that I have not found anywhere in my size. They are used but very few miles and only $20!1

Yep, I should try eBay again. I got the pair I’m currently wearing on Poshmark used - person tried them once on a treadmill and hated them. Very nice deal, fifty bucks, not even the micro tread is worn. Unfortunately a lot of people seem to wear 9.5 b and most of the ones I’ve found have more wear than the ones I’m replacing or they want more than the price they were new. Plus, how long can I keep finding them? The supply is going to run out eventually, so I need to transition to something that’s still made.

I'm kind of behind on this thread. I did run yesterday. It was perfect running weather and I ran 6.51 miles. I usually take Friday's as a rest day, but since I had the day off I decided that I would run today. My MIL is out of town so I ran over to her house to check the mail and feed her cat. It wasn't as nice as yesterday, but was still good running weather and I ran 4.51 miles.
Get well wishes to those who are under the weather!

Continuing my little mini-streak with treadmill running today. About 2 miles before and 1 mile after strength training. I may just reach my goal of 90 for the month. Not sure how long my long run will be this weekend, but I only need to average 3.1 miles a day for these last 4 days.

I almost forgot to do my 12 Days of Christmas song. Not sure how I forgot. That's all I could think of while I was walking/running. LOL
On the second day of Christmas,
my workout let me see,
two lumbering cows and
a squirrel high up in a pine tree.8 -
Still sick. Impatiently waiting to try out my new shoes9

Run at least 4 5k races - Completed 8-31.

Average at least 135k per month, which would put me over 1,000 miles for the year - Completed 12-7.
Run the Year Team: Five for Nineteen - Completed 9-28
Cloudy and mid 30s F today. Wind knew what direction I was running - it was always in my face.
The Twelve Runs of Christmas
On the third run of Christmas, my workout gave to me:
Three calf cramps;
Two frozen ponds;
And a small niggle in my left knee.
2020 goals:
Continue a 5k regimen.
Train better.
4-13 Shine the Light 5K - 31:12 chip time; First Place male 65 and older
6-30 Strides for Starfish 5K - 31:34 chip time; 31/77 overall; second male 65 and older (no official category)

10-13 Haunted Hustle 5k - 31:22 chip time; 47/74 overall; First Place male 60 and older6 -
I am on coffee # 3.
I realized yesterday that I misread the training schedule and the long run I did on Tuesday should have been eight. I did 6.89. That six miles should have landed somewhere in the middle of the week....
So now today I plan to run eight miles. And it is going to rain.
And on Tuesday I swore to myself that i would run the whole 5K distance with no stopping or walking today. I’m feeling anxious and tired but also motivated-ish.
I plan to Run the Year on a team so that will be another thing to keep me motivated between now and the marathon.
Mostly I think I’m just exhausted from the holiday and I am patching myself out about today’s run.
Still, it must be done. It’s the only way I’ll stand a chance at finishing the marathon5 -

Dec 1 - No run, no anything
Dec 2 - 30 min walk with dh/28 min 2 mile RUN on treadmill which was 1.5 mile at 4mph and then I sped up to 5 and 6mph for the last half mile because I thought I was never going to finish going 4mph
Dec 3 - short dog walks and some other walking then 5k RUN outside which took me 33:06 (there is a huge disparity in my outdoor running speed and my comfort level on the treadmill)
Dec 4 - took a 6000 steps walk while on the clock
Dec 5 - 2 mile RUN on treadmill
Dec 6 - Walked my dogs and then ran around like crazy getting ready to host a youth Christmas party at my church
Dec 7 -RAN 3.5 miles, also walked dogs, then jumped on the treadmill for a late night slow walk because I flat out ate too much

SO! Christmas morning my hubby went out for a walk just before daylight while I got on the treadmill. He got 1/4 mile down our street and saw 2 COYOTES 😮😮😮 I've always known they're around and I did see one walking my dog just over a year ago about 8am. But right now they're a little close for comfort and I won't be out in the dark☹
I got rained on second half of my run this morning but it was kinda nice as it cooled me down. But I had to take my glasses off and tuck them in my bra. I wasn't sure I could do 4 miles but at 3.5 I suddenly felt like I could run forever. So i decided to do 4.25 bc I'd probably get cold if my cool down walk was very long. We're having unseasonably warm weather but upper 50s and rain is still chilly walking. Our cooler weather is about to return.
@mbaker566 Sorry you've been pukey 😥
@polskagirl01 Hope you are feeling better!6 -
@Elise4270 thanks for setting up the January thread. Not sure how much I'll participate, but glad you are feeling so proactive! 😁3

Morning all!
I went to park run yesterday, and as I was heading out, miss 5 asked if she could come. Now I've been building up with her that I go running and she can join when she wants. So I explained its a long way but we can run/walk if she wanted. She still wanted to come. So off we went.
Guys it was awful! I had mentally prepared to do a training run, so was going to do some intervals at 10k race pace. I quickly switched that to Sunday. DD ran/walked the first 1.5k, then just walked, and got slower and slower... In the end She did 4.4k. Which is the furtherest she's ever done. Yes I'm a park run cheat, we turned around before the turn around point but given it was her first time, I dont think anyone will care.
So I'm incredibly proud of her, she never complained, she sprinted across the finish line and does want to go out again. But OMG that was painful for me haha. I usually do 5k in around 29 mins. It took us 55 minutes. And the last km was me trying to encourage her to go faster lol. I had to keep reminding myself to be patient and that it's her first one, and I want her to keep doing this.
In the end she said she enjoyed it and she definitely wants to go again, so we will see.
My and my DD at our turn around point

I beat ya to it, eh? I had an ulterior motive. The RTY teams need a little support. And I'm between semesters... and I'm tired of cleaning the house... and if I can't run (ever again), least ya'll can (try).
train smart my friend!
ETA Tag! you're it for February! <-- I think this a great way to delegate the new thread starter!0 -
@Avidkeo That is such a sweet pic! I feel your pain - one of my dogs can take from 25-38 min to do ONE MILE😭 Some days I just embrace his pace. Other days I get very frustrated.0
