I don't even wanna say the word hormones @RubyRed I'm not in my 50's yet BUT the latter part of 40's has got me feeling like a grumpy teen again when it comes to woman stuff grrrr, that used to always cause me to wanna drink! The pain, irritating feelings, weepiness, bloat, etc I hate it😒 Jen I hope we all achieve our goals for the new year💗 let's try to keep the thread active! Hope everyone has a wonderful AF day!4

I had a laugh yesterday watching The Kitchen on Food Network. Geoffrey Zakarian was showing how to make ice cubes with "leftover champagne." I thought "Ha ha ha! That's a good one, GZ. LEFTOVER champagne????" Thus, not opening any on NYE this year. Have a great final days of 2019, everyone.7

Just like the meme that circulates on Facebook that says "I still don't know what a wine stopper is for". All too familiar. Happy New Year!! Here's to NO hangovers, a long deep sleep and coffee that tastes good in the morning...5 -
Speaking of weight loss and the usual resolutions around that, I read a blurb somewhere at some point LOL!! I am now in my 60s, as of a few months ago, and I envy those of you in your 50s or nearing in spite of the hormonal fluctuations cause it doesn't get better and I find I have brain fog a lot so remembering specifics of articles is difficult at times....SO, having said ALL that, in the article it was explained that rather than referring to "losing" weight refer to it as "releasing" the weight. Losing can imply finding it again, but releasing refers to letting something GO!! It is along the lines of how self talk generates action, if that makes sense. IF I am remembering correctly cause my memory is also not what it used to be. LOL
Hope you can gain something positive from my comment.
P.S. - @whitpauly I'd take "grumpy" and late 40s any day, although I empathize with the "woman stuff"....THAT I do NOT miss!!!!6 -
Well hello gang.
Yup...I am always keeping an eye on you guys over here. 👀
Just wanted to say happiest of New Years to you all. May your goals and ambitions come true for 2020.
And huge hug for @RubyRed427. You were (and still are) an enormous reason I stepped up my game two years ago in taking control of my drinking❤

That was such a sweet comment. I am a lurker on your thread this past year. I think this new year I'd like to participate on it. I appreciate it and still enjoy catching up with you and my old friends reading your posts.3 -
I received a bottle of wine & a large box of After Eight mints from a client today and I have re-gifted the wine and will also re-gift the mints. I already know who they are going to. They are sitting in my car as we speak. As soon as I received the wine, I texted a friend who is able to moderate and told her I was stopping by after work with a little sumpin' sumpin' for her. She was very thankful and I was glad to be able to make someone's day LOL
As for the chocolates, I have self control in dribs & drabs, but if I have any form of chocolate in my house, it is a dangerous thing for me. It is best if I just do not have any in my house and then there is no tempt. I really need to treat my food issue as I did my alcohol issue and tailor my environment to help me to succeed not sabotage myself.
It is interesting how my addicted brain works because I thought about bringing the chocolates home and putting them in the freezer, but I already know that is not a deterrent, IN FACT, frozen After Eights are delish and one is NEVER enough...at 50 calories for one thin, hardly-there mint, it doesn't take long to blow through a few too many.
Hello @MissMay and all the other lurkers...glad you are with us over here!!6 -
Good for you Lorraine. I was just posting on my wall Im back to work today after a week off. As much as I hate punching in I do much better there as opposed to being home looking through the cabinets and fridge all day.

Hi ALL: Just checking in. The After Eight mints are now delivered and safely out of my hands LOL
I'm dogsitting for a couple of days and that is my company this eve. Tomorrow I will be attending a Tea Party with a bunch of wee girls, so that should be fun watching them have fun.
Hope everyone has a safe, AF evening. See you in 20204 -
Happy New Year, Everyone!5

Happy New Year! I was able to wake up today on Jan. 1st with no hangover; I went and worked out and had the online counselor session. Everything is looking good today!

My laptop is back at the Techno Dr. I just had a new hard drive installed in October & it is being stupid again. I told them whatever the issue is this is a freebie cause it should not be giving me grief already. Rrrrrrrrrr!! Is there anyone here who knows anything if this nature? SO frustrating!! Especially because I know so little & feel I am at their mercy!2

I have recently had some reminders of why I am so glad that I am working to continue to stay sober. Watching people manipulate & lie to be able to continue killing themselves with alcohol is one of the saddest reminders. And they cannot see because they are clouded by denial. How many DUIs does a person need to accumulate & losing family members & others who care about them. My biggest fear when I was drinking was getting to the point where I did not care if I stopped drinking. Not just stopping caring about myself but about those who I claim to love. Alcohol kills in more ways than one. It can rob us of a quality of life that sobriety enhances.
I hope that everyone is succeeding in their fight4 -
One more blurb from moi. I was gifted another two bottles of vino yesterday & went to a meeting last eve & had a surprise re-gift for two of my moderate-drinking friends. I refuse to gift any alcohol to problem drinkers for obvious reasons.
A side note: as I was contemplating re-gifting the expensive wines I received, the "expensive" end of things began swirling in my brain....then I thought, "what is the difference between an expensive bottle of poison & a cheaper bottle of poison?" Just the price cause it is still poison done up in nicer packaging. It just costs more to poison you. That's about it!5 -
Yep Lorraine it's all the same crap just a fancy name on it😁3

I was asked after being AF for this long what would you have to give up if you have some drinks
Good health good sleep clear headed mornings. Watching the sun rise on my runs
Early morning swims sharing breakfast with my grandson when we visit
He was puzzled all for a few drinks he asked
No I said for all the drinks that followed once I started back since I can’t guarantee stopping again13 -
Good morning friends! I've been hibernating for a few days; reading a lot, spending time with my children, binging on Game of Thrones, etc. I am doing well without alcohol. Was slightly tempted yesterday to have a reward lunch for a job well done, but then my kids texted me they would like to go to dinner and sleep over. And I was so thankful I didn't drink before those texts. Wishing you a great day!
I also enjoy communicating daily with my BetterHelp counselor. She recommended a book about goal setting and taking charge of your life "Girl wash your face". I ordered it and am enjoying reading it. One of the takeaways from the first chapter is that you tend to keep promises with your friends but when you promise yourself something, you make excuses or not follow through. Good point!6 -
I was at the movies and saw this Gold Tea commercial. It made me feel really good about our goals to be sober. It showed all the fun things in life without a shred of alcohol because it was a iced tea commercial. It was refreshing! LOL- pun intended!
