If you can remember to actually increment the count at the same point along the track, that works fine. For me, it was more mentally draining to try to keep focused on whether or not I had counted the lap, than it would be to watch the individual seconds of each minute tick by on the treadmill. At least the treadmill never forgets to increment the minute, if I let my attention drift.
I am with you on this. Without my foot pod (which is incredible accurate once calibrated) I would not even attempt to count laps. I would just say "I will run for XXmins" or something and set a timer. I probably would not even log the run.2 -

@Camaramandy648 you might be out there already, but good luck with your first cold/snowy run. It will not be that bad! I would take 26 and snowy over 40 and rainy any day. Layers are the key, as @PastorVincent described. I'd wear a smartwool/underarmour shirt on top, then my fleece and maybe a windproof layer over it. Fleece lined running tights or two layers if you don't have fleece lined. I wear long socks - skiing kinds, wicking material. Two layers of gloves/mittens. Hat and neck warmer/buff.
@eleanorhawkins I'm so very sorry to hear about your cousin's son. What a terrible tragedy and so very hard to understand. My heart goes out to your family.1 -
I still have the plague so I have not run since Tuesday. Phew. BUT I GOT A NEW TOY!
With monies collected at Christmas (else I could never afford such a thing!) I was able to get an Oculus Quest! For those that do not know, it is a full VR set up. Last night I was fighting evil robots with a lightsaber. Garmin said I burned 454 calories doing it too.
When you put the headset on, it really feels like you stepped onto a holodeck. It is way better than I expected.9 -

Here's a publication on Femoral anteversion in adults. There's no data on the loss of rotation though. I've only come across it in Erlos Danlos, CP, Prader- Willi, and Marfan's. I'm just lucky I guess.1 -
5k this morning. The trainee came out again and after some arguing there was agreement that I was in the wrong so we did a mix of 1.30 and 2 mins to a 1min walk.
I then did an extra 2km to finish off. Strange after what turned out to be a very slow 5k. I still feel as tired as normal.
Missed a strength training session yesterday, may do it later or might just let it slide.

Long run of the week. It was incredibly not bad, considering that I'm running on very little sleep. The Vomero 14 is quite interesting. When doing long runs in other shoes, I would eventually slow down to the point of dragging my feet around at a snail's pace. But even after 20 something kms, whenever I was running, I was running at a pretty much the same pace that I'd started out. Or maybe I'm just getting better at this sport...

I didn't bother to read all 27 pages (Jesus guys, slow down!) but stopping in to say I need to get back on track and have some sort of accountability.
I don't really have any goals right now. I am lost. My general goals are weights and trails. I would like to hit 1000 miles this year (lost 3+ months last year so fell short with like 615 or so). That means approximately 85 per month but I'm already behind. I also want to lose weight and reduce body fat. Already behind here too because I've been eating candy and not logging it yet hitting my calories with regular food (and not working out to be able to eat all my calories). Basically I'm a hot mess right now.
So all of that to say... I'm back *kitten*. You can't shake me that easily!14 -

Woke up today to the sight of the full Wolf moon peeking through the clouds in the west. But by the time I was ready to run, it had clouded up considerably. Checked the weather radar and saw a big slug of rain was coming, with clearing behind it. Figured I could run a little later, so I did yoga first today. This yoga is billed as "A Deep Stretch for the Lower Back, Hips, and Legs." I like doing it because I'm really tight through there. Finished the yoga and out to run; 55 degrees F and windy. I certainly was loose -- for the first kilometer I felt like my legs were going to come off at the hip. After that I was OK, until I began running out of gas. Really need to think about fueling before running, especially since I'm losing weight.
Next year when you pop in here claiming your December 2020 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs
Run at least 4 5k races
Get a 5k PR
Average at least 138k per month, to meet my Run the Year pledge of 1,020 miles

@Elise4270 so sorry about the "no running" diagnosis. I hope with you that they're wrong. Just make sure you listen to them until you're sure!
Also on cycling, if you have a safe place to ride outside (bike trails, for example), I wouldn't write that off. I do fully support carefully choosing your routes, wearing bright clothing, helmet, lights, etc and being aware of your surroundings, but I wouldn't say "don't ever cycle outside".

@marisap2010 What kinda storms are we talking? Lightning - I say yes, stay inside. Snow storm - if it isn't too slippery for your best-traction shoes, and if you have sidewalks instead of being on the side of a road with cars sliding around... I'd bundle up and go outside. (This applies to @Camaramandy648 's question too) Maybe do a loop that you repeat several times or plan a hot meal & clothes change in the middle if it's cold. I sometimes put an extra shirt or hat in my hydration pack, more for security than anything.
That being said, you CAN get through a treadmill or indoor track long run. Maybe find something to keep you entertained - TV/movie/audiobook/etc.

Race report: 5k trail race (#4 in the series)
Really the hardest part was the logistics. I found out a couple days ago that I'd be by myself with 2 kids and no car. It's the off-season, so no buses go to that side of the lake. And my youngest can't be left alone or with brother. My regular childcare helpers were unavailable. So I fought with 2 taxi apps and finally just called this morning and imagine that, it was much easier and a taxi showed up 7 minutes later. Except our destination was on the other side of the city and I kinda had sticker shock when we got there and I had to pay for it. Whatever. It was windy, cold and rainy. We brought a little tent with us and set it up out of the way, in the woods, letting the organizers' tents be our windbreakers. Kids had their races, then I walked my youngest back out to the road, where she got picked up to go to a friend's house (yes, I literally asked them to come all the way out there to pick her up along the road at "this exact time", and they agreed!). Older kid hung out with blankets in the tent while I ran. He loved it.
It was hard running today for some reason, I've been coughing (as usual for winter here), and managed to stay within my usual, standard 5k pace, nothing amazing. On the final stretch I was just about to give up and let this girl pass me - she'd been trying off and on for at least the last 2k and I was tired and I would've cheered her on if she did finally pass me... but then figured I should at least give it my very best shot because the finish line was just ahead. So I turned up the pace and finished 1-3 seconds ahead of her (depending on if you're counting gun or net time). Seeing that later in the results, I was glad I didn't give up.
Then I went back to the tent & changed into warm clothes. Actually made use of the medical services, as my bandage from a burn on my wrist (pumpkin soup 2 days ago) stopped sticking because of sweat, and now the wound was dirty and exposed. They fixed it up and seemed happy to have something to do. We packed up the tent and walked 5k to the closest operating bus stop, and then had to take 2 buses to get home... but it cost 1/10th what the taxi did. It was a long day just for a total of less than 35 minutes (combined for the 3 of us) running. But I think it was a good adventure for the kids. My son got 2nd place again, so he's still in the competition for an age group award at the end of the series, if he continues to do well. For a moment, I *almost* thought he was going to catch the speedy kid who's always first. But speedy kid wasn't having any of that
Turnout today was lower, probably because of the weather, but I don't mind because it helps the standings for those of us who do show up. Despite being slower than the last 2 races, I got 8th in my AG today - that's really good for me for this series.

I slept so late. It was glorious! But! This isn’t snow! This is raining pellets of ice! It is supposed to stop at some point so I think today I am going to start off in the gym, per the usual routine, and see how it feels outside. If all else fails, maybe I can do the long run early in the morning when it is much warmer?
Saturday is always my day to go out and get it done so I really don’t want the interruption in routine but I don’t like the idea of ice pellets pounding me while I run....6 -
@eleanorhawkins - it is sad to lose anyone unexpectedly like that but to lose someone so young, wow it is just heartbreaking! My thoughts are with you and your husband and all of the family - {{{hugs}}}
@noblsheep - whether it is the shoes or you getting better (my personal choice) I love that feeling where you hit a pace and just feel like you can keep going and going.
@polskagirl01 - the logistics you had to go thru for the race were daunting but it sounds like it was fun for everyone! I think it is so good for the kids to see that you didn't just take the easier out, give up and stay home. It also looks SO cold!
So I finally sat down and wrote out my 2020 goals:
What are your goals for this next year?
Run more consistently, increasing from 4 to 5 days/week
Run only the 3-4 miles recommended with an occasional longer run (plus wu/cd)
One HITT run per week
Participate in regular (1 or 2 x per week) fitness classes at the gym (pilates, zumba, yoga)
Continue strength training with trainer or on my own if necessary
Have some activity every day
Where do you want to be a year from now?
Healthy and uninjured
Running a faster mile
Running more continuous miles
I figure if I keep to these and dial in my nutrition I should lose a bit or worst case maintain on the weight front.

@samthepanda I hope you get to feeling better soon! It stinks to be sick at the beginning of the year....well, really anytime.
@Camaramandy648 You have a lot on your plate. I don't know how you do it, but I'm happy that you are able to carve time out for yourself and run.
@Avidkeo So glad that you are able to get in short runs when you're on call. I love that your little miss 5 wants to start running with you!

@polskagirl01 What a great friend you have to drive out there for you! Glad you got the logistics figured out and that your oldest son enjoyed bundling up in the tent while you ran. Also glad he got 2nd place again. You are both going great!
My schedule called for a 3 mile run today. I did 4 miles last week, and have been running a little over 3 miles in my mid-week runs, so thought this one would be a piece of cake. Wrong. I felt like my legs were made of lead. I even had to stop for a minute at the 2 mile point...not stop to walk. Stop. Then, when I finished the 3 miles and stopped to save it on my Garmin, I got dizzy. I wasn't running too fast - had a 12:03 pace which is about normal for an "easy" run. There are several things that could be the problem, or it could just have been one of those days. Here are my thoughts on potential problems. I have had a fairly large calorie deficit the last couple of days. Maybe I didn't wait long enough after eating my peanut butter toast before going out. Maybe I was dehydrated. It was fairly windy. It was a morning run and I usually run later in the day. Anyone else have any thoughts on the subject?
At least I got through it. My warm up and cool down walks were at a 4.1 mph pace again today. Total distance today was 4 miles.

@quilteryoyo i am no expert but my first thought is calorie deficit because you were dizzy. It could be so many things and I am terrible at pinpointing them.
I’ve been having similar issues - the things that have been easy for me are now difficult. I don’t know what’s going on with me either2 -

I don't know if it's grit or resourcefulness or just crazy and "if we don't do this race, we can't miss ANY of the last 2 because we won't qualify as completing the series and I don't want to be worrying about that for the next 2 months"
So ice pellets do hurt, but a hood and hat/visor might help. But that might move me for sure into the "just crazy" category.3
