Have I mentioned my opinion of camping? Yeah, it's pretty much just pretending you're homeless. Not something I say much around Girl Scouts of any age.
Love y'all,
Lisa
Funny ... I'm actually missing camping a little bit.
When we drive, we stay in the cabins in campgrounds most often, but when we are on a cycling tour, there's usually a mix of tent camping and cabins.
Sometimes I'm not keen on tent camping.- If I've been doing it several days in a row, my back starts to hurt sleeping on the ground.
- If we've ended up in a busy campground, that's really annoying and I tend not to sleep well at all.
- I also have trouble sleeping when we've bush camped (not in a campground). Some people have apparently found absolutely delightful places to bush camp, but for some reason I've never been so lucky. I've always ended up in places that make me nervous.
But sometimes I really enjoy tent camping.- I think back with fond memories to camping on farms in Wales surrounded by sheep. Some farms in Wales (and maybe other parts of the UK) will occasionally have a little sign on their gatepost which indicates that they allow people to camp on their land and they might even have an amenities block.
- And I didn't mind dabbling in winter camping in a small campground in Alberta.
- There's a campground on Goldeye Lake in Alberta, just in the Rockies that I'll never forget ... we stayed there a few days before we got married! We floated on the lake in a blow-up dingy. I ended up with wicked food poisoning from a Wendy's in Edmonton the day before. A massive storm came up in the night and a bolt of lightning struck really close by ... as in practically next to the tent. I had been lying there debating about making another dash to the outhouse when this bolt from above descended!! Lit up the tent and the immediate "CRACK" had us both sitting up and hugging each other!!!
And there's a place not too far from here I'd like to go back to. It's a small island. No motor vehicles are allowed (except one parks vehicle) and at night it is just you, your tent, a small handful of people, and heaps and heaps of animals. It was so lovely last time we went.
I think my husband would like it as well. But there are a couple things I'm concerned about. One is the ferry trip over. Sometimes it can be rough and I'm not sure how he'd be. The other thing is what if something happened ... a seizure or something.

Up to P45 phew not sure I'll catch up before the end of the month, but I'll try
Karen sending love to you, it is always hard to say goodbye to a beloved pet, but we do what we have to because we love them so
Happy birthday to those celebrating and Happy Anniversary to Barbie and Jake
Going to get some dinner, before walking the doggie, I got a call from the vet earlier with the results of Leah's allergy testing. Seems she is allergic to quite a few things she'd like to discuss results and next step, so DD and I will go in later this afternoon to see what we can do = sounds expensive to me but she is worth it
Really going for dinner now - Love to all

Debris everywhere from yesterday's windstorm, temps above freezing but lots of snow and ice everywhere. I am so grateful for my warm clothing, yak trax and wonderful furnace that was recently inspected. Friend coming soon to walk with the dogs and me. Line dance class may be cancelled.5

Just back from Dancing. I really enjoyed it. The weather is foul at the minute, so planning an afternoon of reading and decluttering.
(((Hugs))) if you need them.
Best Birthday Wishes to those celebrating.
Have a lovely day.

Karen-I am soooo sorry about the loss of your fur baby.Sending lots of hugs and love to y’all.

Thanks Viv for the kind thoughts. After her not eating a bite on Tuesday, she wolfed down her breakfast and dinner yesterday. Took her pills (squished into some left-over Christmas cake - it's that Italian cake that stays good forever. It's usually sold in the weird shaped red box. I cannot think of the name of it). It's almost 0930, got her pills into her, nada on the dog-food. The cake has chocolate chips, and I know dogs are not supposed to eat chocolate, but she likes it. She's coming to the end, a bit of chocolate won't kill her - no pun intended.
If anybody has any suggestions to increase the appetite of an elderly min-pin, I'm all ears. She is currently getting Blue Buffalo dry for seniors - 1/4 cup twice a day. I was adding pumpkin, which she liked, but now doesn't. I then added unsweetened apple-sauce, which she liked, but now doesn't. I bought her moist Blue Buffalo 'dinners'. She can only tolerate about 1-2 teaspoons, or else it's diarrhea time.
Thanks,

Karencpnp795 ~ Hi! I'm in East Cobb county! My Pom is going through the same and we are just hoping for one more day for the last week.
Karen in VA ~ Continued good thoughts for you as you go through this sad time. I am glad that you still have the Yorkies. I know that when our Pom passes, that will be the last of our pets.
Tracey ~ I just plain don’t think I could live where the temp goes to -30 or lower. In Georgia, if it gets to 30* F we feel as if we are freezing. That’s a lot of sick time your union is allowing.
Rori ~ So glad you were able to get away for a day and that you enjoyed your lunch with friends. The bathroom color is very pretty!
Lucy ~ You have done a great job in losing weight. Enjoy cuddling the new baby.

Karen- I give my senior dog her dry food mixed with raw egg every other day. She likes yogurt and cottage cheese. I haven't tried pumpkin or applesauce. Also if I cook meat I will pull some before seasoning to add to her food. It is painful when they aren't eating well. Sara is Pyrenees so big, but down to 2 cups dry a day from 5. Like you I just want her senior days to be good.

Karen - Will they eat scrambled eggs? Minced (or ground) chicken with rice? I didn’t have a problem with my poodle eating, only drinking. I would put water on her food, which hacked her off because she wanted to eat, so she would lick all the water off so she could get to the food. Kept her from being dehydrated.

I would like your opintion - may not change what i do but ya never know.
as you may or may not know, i run 2 hrm while i'm exercising. one is the apple watch that is on the wrist and other is a Wahoo hrm chest strap. as you also may know, the chest strap is always better for giving you the more accurate reading while doing your exercise. currently. i record the reading of what the chest strap reads and not what the apple watch reads, that's just informational for me. also, if one peters out, i use the other for back up as what to record.
the question i have for you is: would you record the HIGHER calorie burn or just do the wahoo as i have been doing,
for example:
wachoo shows 216, apple watch shows 288 (which is rare, USUALLY the wahoo is always higher)
ROWING MACHINE- 40min, 49aw, 150mhr, 144mhr, 6261meters or 3.89mi= 216c
apple watch- 288c
wachoo shows 106, apple watch shows 153
bike ride puy 2 sumn station- 16.24min, 145mhr, 11.1amph, 3.03mi= 153c
apple watch- 106c2 -
Pip - I think what you record depends on your goals and why you're keeping a record anyway. I use the lower number from my chest strap and the higher food calories. If you eat your calories back in, that's when it matters. If you're in weight loss mode, recording the lower burn is probably better. If you're in maintenance and perhaps not eating your calories back in, use the higher just because it makes you feel better.
Tina in CA5 -
Pip - I would just pick one and stick with it.
Okie5 -
Pip, This is about steps, not calories, but it might be the same principle. I have a step counter that I've used for 10 years and those are the steps I record in any challenge I do. My smart phone has a step count app that routinely counts more steps than my beloved step counter, but I have kept to the count of the step counter even though it's lower than the phone count. If I were you, I'd use which ever one you've used the longest.6

Walking, calorie watching,y ordering what I lost in every divorce! My TOOLS! Judges never understood I was maintenance at some jobs I needed them for work they assumed the Men needed it more. 1 learned this was wrong but too late lost my skill saw to a few others. Luckily Dad marches in twice said this is mine y this y that showed his name etched on them or I’d have even less. Got his hand me downs back. Bought a toilet seat let’s hope he doesn’t pull this one off. A toilet auger y a sink snake. $75 but worth it if it unclogs anything even once! Ordered from HomeDepot4 -
Pip- I agree with Tina in CA. Or average them together .. just a thought.
Like Barbie, I have a fitbit on my wrist and a little one on my hip. The wrist one sucks at step counting unless my arm is moving, so pushing or carrying it doesn't count, hence the one on hip. The one on hip has calorie burn on it, but I use wrist one for that since it actually takes my pulse.
Lots of great ideas!3 -

I had a delightful day out with my best girlfriend. I met her at the train station and we walked down to the seafront restaurant. They gave us a lovely table by the window and we ordered the set lunch, which wasn't too expensive. A carafe of white Sicilian wine between us. Our waitress was delightful and the waiter who brought us the food was French so we happily chatted to him in French. I had delicious Salmon Tartare and Hake with Vegetables, so very slimming!
We racked up 7,000 steps just walking round various furniture/accessory shops in town. I bought nothing, but she succumbed to a couple of bits in the sale. Then we had free tea on her store vouchers to round it all off.
A Very Good Day.
DH was happy enough when I got home. I dragged some ragu out of the freezer and added broccoli and a bit of pasta. All good. No more wine though.
Death in Paradise tonight.
Oh, and I received the new, extremely cheap cushion covers I had ordered. They look great! My old ones had a sticky kind of material that needed washing all the time. These will be better and the colours are perfect.
Still haven't put my new mirror up.
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxxx7 -
This is a photo of the outside terrace of the restaurant we ate at today. In the summer the terrace is packed with happy eaters. We were sitting by the window, looking at the sea.
The big hotel behind is called The Grand. Some of you might remember it was where Margaret Thatcher was bombed by the IRA. Some people were killed. One poor woman was made a paraplegic.

Hi Gals,
Machka
Whats this ?
It looks to me like a pig crossed with a bear.
Lisa – I think you have mentioned your “love” of camping before, doesn’t surprise me that there are office/management staff who get how good it can be for kids but not want it themselves. I do love to camp and have enough gear to be comfortable. Tent, quality pad, sleeping bag and the cooking gear. As for homelessness, I agree; one of my biggest groundless fears is becoming homeless, I can tell you how I would make it work in the town I live in now, I even know which office building has a shower in the second floor ladies room. And truly I have no reason to worry – unless it was a massive earthquake, and then I have folks who would take me in. Just one of those weird worries.
It is really rainy and cold for us it’s 42 at 12:30pm the weather channel says it feels like 38 and that is often the low of the day with the warmer temp being 50-55. My house is cooler than I would like, but I’m powering through

Camping - ugh. As someone who has to get up three or four times a night for a pee, camping is definitely out. I used to camp as a teenager with my parents and when I was first married, in my twenties. I even camped for a month for my honeymoon in Brittany, France. From financial necessity, not choice! But my bladder now makes it impossible, even if I wanted to, which I don't. :noway:
I have done "glamping" in Africa and India, but they were huge tents with a proper bed and built in toilets and bathrooms.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx4 -
My tent accommodates a queen size mattress. I have three inches of foam topped with an inch of sheepskin. I can't carry it very far but it is great to sleep on. I didn't go camping last year though. Boyfriend issues.2

Of course, no exercise today. The plan for tomorrow is to take the water class. Then the soup kitchen
Rori – your compassion and understanding never ceases to amaze me. I only hope and pray that I’m like you if ever it is needed, and I hope not.
Barbara – that’s OK if you don’t want to hug me. I know that you’d like to but circumstances make it “hard” You can keep your snow!
Yesterday and today I’m freezing cold. I’m sure it’s because I’ve lost so much liquid. It’s in the 60’s, yet yesterday I went to bed wearing a sweater
Carol – Jess got a reduced insurance rate when she was in St. Kitts and her car was in our driveway, not being driven (except to get the oil changed <we had to have someone else drive it> and taking it around the block just to keep the oil lubricated.
NYKaren – that stinks for your sister, but I do hope she takes the retirement. How old is your sister?
Kylia – prayer’s for your friend’s daughter. There’s probably a silver lining to your mouth burning – you aren’t tempted to eat….lol Feel better fast
Tomorrow night we’re supposed to go see “Crimes of the Heart” at the Green Room. Really, Vince wanted to see the “Odd Couple” there, but we’ll be in FL when it’s showing. At least in FL I’ll get to see “Menopause the Musical”
Lisa AR – I can’t get over how gorgeous your bowl is. What kind of paint do you use?
Well, I’m home. Looks like I’m on the 5 year plan. The prep was HORRIBLE. I thought for sure I was going to vomit at first. That never happened to me. I finally put a bit of Gatorade in it just so that I could swallow it. I can’t believe how much chicken broth and jello I ate. Then, the gal put the IV in me. Now, I have a high tolerance for pain. When they put in a crown, I don’t take any novacane. But I told her in front of the MD that I’ve never had an IV that hurt so much. And I have good veins. Whenever I get an IV put in, they always comment on how good my veins are. I swore she must have put in 3 IV’s. I think she must have tried 3 times. You should have seen the face I made. If you’ve ever had a cortisone shot, to me it was like that. I even commented afterwards to Vince that I wonder if she was new because it hurt so much. She said it was in a very tender place. But it shouldn’t have had to hurt THAT much. Anyway, I don’t remember anything. Got home around 2, had something to eat then slept. I think I might go to bowling tonight just to get out of the house, but I won’t bowl.
Going there I we saw this one tree that must have hit the house. Fortunately, no damage was to the house, the gutter was ripped down but that’s all.
Speaking of Italian cakes, I’m just wondering if Denise is going to get a cake from that Italian (expensive ) bakery for PJ’s birthday and/or baptism. I’m suspecting not if she’s paying for it.

Pip: I love your picture in the newspaper. “Fast start, happy end . . .” seems like a good description for anything you decide to do.
Barbie: I’m happy that you’re dry and warm despite the weather event.
Karen: We feed Purina Beneful mixed with Blue Buffalo and then top the meal with a dollop of Purina Beneful Chopped Blends. The dog eats it happily. Portions need to be adjusted for the size and activity level of the dog. Ours weighs about 33 pounds. He is small for his breed and getting up there in years. :flowerforyou:
Pip: I’d go with whichever device gives you a higher number for activity based recorded calories. You earn every bite you take. :flowerforyou:
(((Karen in VA))): Great photo of your trio of cutie pie dogs.
Heather: Keep the photos coming. I really enjoy seeing them. My idea of a good time camping indoors—tents should be made by draping blankets over a card table in the living room with a view of the fireplace and cozy blankets or sleeping bags on the floor under the table. I do like the comfort of our RV &/or sailboat—queen sized bed, refrigerator with freezer, furnace and either airconditioner or fan . . . You know—roughing it.
Kim in N California: The temp is 43 here, at 2:30. Close enough to the same as you.
The royal family is in the news here, as is Mr. Trump. Loads of turmoil for all of us that speak one kind of English or another. It makes me wonder which countries have people gambling on the outcomes.
