I feel like i must be in the dark ages. I don't have Siri.
Tracey – isn’t it amazing how we now understand our grandparents?
We’re going to see my cousin in St. Augustine in a few weeks. She said we’d have lunch at her house. What was my first thought? “What can I make to bring with me?”. Well,I have the ingredients with me for a grapefruit pie. I was going to make that if I needed something to take to the pot lucks – I wasn’t sure how many they’d have while we were here. Seems they’ll only have 2 so I have things for 3 things to take and a recipe for a 4th. Since I only need 2, this works. The first thing Vince said was “please take something I’ll eat” so I’ll take some of the chocolate chip cookies that I made for him to have.
Went to Hobby Lobby and got this small needlepoint to make. I figure I'll make one of a flamingo for the condo and one of a cat for us at home. They're kits for kids, so they're small. Had to go back because they didn't put a needle in with the first one. There was one with the second one so I'll use it for both. Didn't get back in tie to go to church. One reason I had to go back today was because they'll be closed tomorrow.

where they did open the pool. Surprising, I thought it was too cool. It's supposed to warm up later in the week, tho

My dude ranch trip is in seven weeks, to the White Stallion Ranch in Tucson for a week. There will be trail rides every day, and a chance to do some cattle work, if I feel adventurous. I ride a little English, just walk trot on a slow school horse. I'm looking forward to the pool and the sunshine too!

Heather: Went out late this avo. Storm Ciara has quite a blast.
Fav cardio activity is Dancing, closely followed by walking.

Hello lovely ladies.
I have been attempting to limit my online time this month in an effort to get back to moving. Joined an accountability group and feeling good about getting back on track. This week has been extremely busy closing out the month at work, wheeling and dealing with the reps, and lots of running errands after work.
Gleaned today. It was another morning of picking peppers. I think I mentioned a gal at work asked if she could come with me the next time I go. We had a great morning getting to know each other outside of work. She came up with a great idea for us to collaborate a volunteer group at work. We are going to organize various volunteer opportunities such as gleaning, beach cleanup, building for Habit for Humanity, etc. I am really excited to see where this may go.
After gleaning went to the local farmer’s market and some light grocery shopping. Made a pot of chicken soup base, made a citrus salad, cleaned vegetables, laundry, napped (yeah!), and started meal prep for next week.
Heather – I cannot wait to hear about your girl’s weekend and am happy you found a great cruise for DH’s birthday. Very sorry to hear his back is acting up again and hope he can find some relief.
Lisa – Sorry to hear about the issue with your boss. Hopefully things have calmed down and she saw your comments in a positive light. I know my temper is very quick so I practice not responding immediately and will time my conversations (with notes) when I have calmed down a little. I love your reminder note of taking a moment to breath.
Margaret – Thank you for sharing your wisdom. And, yes, the Serenity Prayer is one of my go to mantras. I say it in my head quite often. Love the 5th grader story. I am sure you touched that young man’s heart.
Karen – Yeah!!! Partner is really moving along with her recovery. Lilly Bell is adorable. She must melt your heart.
Barbie – Love Jake suggesting he could drive especially after his colonoscopy.
Kelly – What a great idea! I love the milk jug igloo. The children must have loved it. When you mentioned it was slightly breaking apart I thought maybe purchasing dome tent poles may assist in keeping it together. The poles are flexible and holes could be punched in the milk cartons and the poles threaded through. Much less glue and I think assembly would be quicker.
JanetO; EMO – Sending positive thoughts to the possibility of a newly created position for you!
NYKaren – I hope, eventually, the doctors are able to determine what is causing the numbing. It’s frustrating to go through so many tests and not know.
Pip – Sorry to hear about the theft. I cannot figure out people. It’s so mean. And, drivers are so distracted today – even with the no texting laws and hands-free laws. Stay safe on the roads.
Terri – I love your design and execution of the African room.
Luci – Iris is adorable! She is growing so fast.
Allie – Hugs to you. Hoping you find the right balance.
Machka – It sounds like you are certainly hitting the stairs and will meet your goal. Bee’ing sounds like fun and based upon the hives I have seen it does not take up too much room.
Betsy – Great news on the family legal issues coming to an end. Sending prayers and positive thoughts for your sister.
Rori – Hopefully you are able to get DH acclimated with the Vets Club.
Katla – Glad to hear you’re happy with your new yogi.
Wow, my intention was to get totally caught up, but that is not going to be in the cards. It’s close to 8:00 pm and I really must figure out what I am eating for dinner – something very light. I have another load of laundry in the dryer and may make a tomato salad before some reading and bed time.
Hugs to all and prayers to those in need.

Favorite cardio - Walking. It can be done anywhere and does not require fancy equipment.1

Rebecca - have you and your son seen the new show on called LEGO Masters? My Grandson and I are watching the first episode it’s pretty interesting.3

Annie I think we will be in Tucson at the same time. We will be at the large RV show helping my nephew sell his ebikes. If you go there stop by!
Mary from Arizona/Minnesota5 -
And now I'm trying to shake this random virus so I can get back to the gym! Gah! Sneezing and a minor sore throat. Just enough to be a bother.6

Just got back from driving outside the city for 5 minutes so Michaela could see her stars. We need to do this again in the summer and just lay under them on a blanket for a bit and have a moonlight picnic. She was so excited. I have a video of their reactions. I just don’t know how to post it here.
So worth a late night for them.

Favorite cardio: dancing merengue,💃 followed by lap swimming🏊♂️. These days I'm still babying my broken foot, so not doing anything more vigorous than the recumbent bike in my living room. I can report an NSV from today! II have been working on stretching my hamstrings and calves, and today reached a new milestone: while sitting on the floor with my legs stretched in front of me, I can finally put my nose on my knees and grab both feet. I've only been trying it for about 40 years.
Ginny: I talked to my optometrist about difficulty driving at night and she prescribed special night driving glasses. They make signage look clearer, and have a coating that blunts some of the glare of oncoming headlights. It made a world of difference for me, as before I retired, I was driving in the dark in cities I didn't know.
I started watching "Brittany Runs a Marathon" on Amazon Prime today. DH woke from his nap, so had to stop it. Can't wait to see the remainder. Stay well friends. We can do this.

We finally got our first significant snowfall of the winter here in SW PA. 4 inches or so. Doggie doesn't know what to do!

Anne DE - have fun on the dude ranch. Can't wait to hear all about it.
Well, I was a bit cold and I remembered MIL had some blankets so I got one out. It smelled musty. For some reason, I didn't expect it to smell musty. So tomorrow when I buy the newspaper I'll probably also get some dryer sheets and run the blankets thru the dryer. then we'll probably go to WalMart to get some wood chips to put in the box where they are kept (wooden box) trying to keep that smell down. Need to air out the bag they were in since the bag is plastic.

Storm Ciara roaring round the house. I wear earplugs, so it didn't keep me awake. Won't be going for a run today. I'm expecting the seafront to be covered in pebbles again tomorrow.
I don't have Siri, or Alexa either! My son does. It's mainly used for the weather, sports results and music.
The kids spent quite a lot of time outside in the garden yesterday with DH. He is so wonderful with them. Kids these days still love making magic potions in a bucket, and playing What's the Time Mr Wolf? Grandmother's Footsteps is still a favourite. They have a big trampoline and that gives them lots of exercise. They have guinea pigs out there in a palace! DDIL is very good about limiting screen time to the short period after tea, before their bath, so they have to entertain themselves. Max reads a LOT, often sitting on the stairs. The thing I find difficult is the fights and the mess. There is a lot of both.
Tracey- I think there is an app which you can hold against parts of the sky and it tells you the names of the planets, stars and constellations. What a gift you gave her, driving her round. She won't forget. The summer 'star bathing' sounds great.
SuziQ - My calendar is filling up now. I have the London day trip next week for Picasso and The Wolseley. Then March for the London theatre trip with two of 'the girls'. I am staying over for that one in my difficult friend's apartment. We are also fitting in The National Portrait Gallery and a nice early meal out.
Two birthdays. Bea will be 4 and DDIL will be 40. That's cream tea at the Grand Hotel and a trip up the i360. A sleepover here with the kids and my son.
I'm feeling exhausted already!
Then it's the cruise to Norway.
Then it's Glasgow for two nights. Our hostess is hoping to take us girls on a ferry trip to an island, weather permitting. The scenery is spectacular within a few miles of Glasgow.
Then, it will be Portugal in October.
Empty summer so far, but I'm sure we will find wonderful things to do. I love doing nothing and getting on with my memoir. People do want to visit in the summer. DH has cricket. I love empty time.
My DDIL gave a TED talk in which the emphasis was - SLOW DOWN, EMPTY TIME, NATURAL HIGHS. My natural high is the sea. How I love it!
Time to make the morning cuppa. I take it back to bed and DH and I have a lovely chat. All phones etc are banned so we can just chat and sip our tea.

Siri comes with an iphone. My Siri has a male voice. DH’s has a female voice. Siri can be very useful, especially giving driving directions. Example: Siri, navigate to the nearest Costco . . .2 -
Michele - Is it normal in the US to take food with you when invited to lunch, or is it just that your cousin is a poor cook? I would be upset if someone brought anything other than a bottle of wine, or chocolates. I would maybe offer to contribute food for a party, or if they asked me to bring dessert, or cheese. In France though it is perfectly acceptable to bring a sweet tart, even one from a patisserie. Almost expected.
I read years ago in a magazine that you should never bring flowers to a hostess because she has to stop everything to look after them. Our friends brought beautiful yellow roses to our Burns Night and it was a real pain. I dumped them in the sink! They are just at the end of their life now, but have been gorgeous for two weeks.
In Britain the customary gift is wine, but you don't necessarily expect it to be drunk that meal because the host will have planned food and wine. Prosecco or champagne for aperitif is always welcome and, if it is chilled, it is often opened straight away, but you mustn't be offended if it isn't.
I'm interested in the protocol in different countries. In India you take those very sweet, sweetmeats.
What do you all take if it isn't a potluck?

Rori That darn foot. Sometimes if a fracture heals with a malunion (either rotated or misaligned) it will keep on hurting even though the bone is mended. And sometimes a fracture simply doesn't heal (nonunion). In both cases it keeps on hurting. I wonder if you should go back to your orthopedist.
I am Wow!ed by your nose-to-knees accomplishment. That is something! I can only imagine being that limber.
Thanks for the tip on the night driving glasses. Who knew?
"Brittany Runs a Marathon" (a film that follows a deconditioned woman in New York City who sets out to lose weight and train for the city's annual marathon) is a 2019 movie that I would very much like to see. Hope you can get back to it soon! Thanks for reminding me about it.

The moon is so bright tonight! It's called a 'Snow Supermoon'. It is so bright, at first I thought I left a light left on outside that was shining through the skylight in my family room!
I have to work in the morning, so hopefully I can get back to sleep so I'll be rested for a busy day.

Heather In the US it is polite to ask if one can bring something to contribute to a meal, and often one will add a suggestion "salad or dessert?". If the answer is "No, just bring yourself", then it is traditional to bring wine.
I am not so traditional, so I bring fruit in season, brownies, a loaf of fresh bread & stick of butter - not for the meal, just as a thank you to the hostess, and not something that takes up much counter space. For example, I happen to know that my daughter-in-law loves pears, and has plenty of wine already, so I will bring 3-4 beautiful pears as a thank you for inviting me to a meal at their house. Sometimes we take a jar of homemade granola, a box of homemade almond bark, or a can of Virginia peanuts obviously not intended to be served with the meal. Once I brought a 6-pack of old-fashioned root beer and another time I brought old-fashioned chewing gum (Beemans, Clove, & Black Jack) because I knew the host loved it. The last time we had dinner at my stepson's house we took a 6-pack of Shipyard Pumkinhead.
