@rheddmobile I had the same experience with training for the half -- for me it was great practice in more regularly running in the 8-10 mile range. I needed the motivation to run longer and training for a half provided that.2

I am working from home for the foreseeable future which is fine except my Mom and son are home too so I keep getting interrupted. My Mom is already stir crazy. She emptied out my son's room and washed the walls down. If nothing else if I stay out of her way my house will be spotless LOL.
With all of the canceled races I am glad I haven't entered my half yet. I have 2 backup races later in the year so we will see.
Tried to go grocery shopping before logging in online this morning but couldn't find everything I needed. Oh well, better luck tomorrow.
Stay safe and healthy everyone.5 -
Hugs everyone! It's so frustrating! Wlno word on cancellations here yet, but we only have 12 cases so far in the whole country. I'm expecting to hear that Parkrun is going to be cancelled but no word on that yet. And no word on the Marathon on the 1st July. Hopefully it will be over by then?
I had a "rest" day yesterday, went and played squash with hubby. Was fantastic till I whacked myself on the shin with the racket!
5k run today. I'm still fighting off an upper respiratory track infection that's hanging around my nose and throat so the run felt a little harder than usual to start. I'm really enjoying this build up.
Eta: I posted too soon

Right with you @Camaramandy648
Our big meeting is tomorrow and I will either be offered a 40% pay cut or a box to carry my stuff home. Things always work out in the end so not losing sleep over it.

Sorry @Camaramandy6480

So PGH Marathon is dead, dead, dead.
I have the choice of a virtual race or a refund. Ah well. Not like it was a surprise. Not sure what that will do to my coach's plans yet. She mentioned she was excited that we had extra time to work on things so that sounds scary.

My coach is furiously rewriting plans. I see a lot of work in my future!!6 -

I do like your idea though @rheddmobile We should all pick a date and run whatever distance we are ready for that day, and post our results.
Today, I did a treadmill run. I went slow, but the first mile and a half or so were horrible. Lead Legs was a thing today. Anyway, it did get better and I managed 4 miles running and an extra mile of warm up and cool down walking.

Minnesota largely shut down yesterday - take out and delivery only at restaurants, all “public accommodations” are closed (a local paper defined this as anywhere you go to spend money and have fun with other people), k-12 schools close tomorrow, government services (including the courts) are at least rolling back services. My husband’s last work trip scheduled for the month was canceled, as was the race I was thinking to do at the end of May, which doesn’t bode well for the two or three races I was considering in the mean time. So it goes! We live in interesting times.
On the silver-ish lining side, the owner of my gym said that if they had to close, people could come by and check out equipment, so I got one of those big resistance bands and two kettlebells - 16k and 20k. He’s said that all workouts will be posted online and coaches are available for questions and modifications and please please please don’t put your membership on hold if you can possibly afford it if want us to reopen. >.< I really feel for small business owners right now, that’s for sure. I never even went to the new bakery on the corner of my block until yesterday morning, but I really wanted to give them some support.
No run today because carrying those kettlebells into the house made my knee hurt. I’m actually in a moderately good mood right now, no idea why. Knee allowing I’ll definitely run tomorrow!6 -
@Camaramandy648 I am so sorry...
@TheMrWobbly I'm sorry for your daughter. Nothing is worse in the world than knowing your child is suffering. I hope she recovers quickly. About your job, you have an optimistic attitude despite the circumstances. I'm sorry...
This is out of hand at this point. The option for those that choose it could or should be to stay in, order grocery delivery, deny guests to their home and wait this thing out. For the rest of us it's ridiculous. They're talking about making school online the remainder of the school year, which might work out okay. But all extracurriculars are cancelled for the school year along with everything else.2 -
@Camaramandy648 And thank you for the suggestion. I still have to buy the ingredients but I'll let you know how it turns out.0

@LoveyChar: I don’t want to get into a whole thing here, but I think you might benefit from reading a bit more about how diseases like this spread. I’m not staying home to keep myself healthy - I’m doing it to help, in my very, very small way, to keep everyone else healthy, and to try and remove as much burden from the healthcare system as I can. That strategy only works if a majority of the population follows it, whether they want to or not. I can’t say that every single decision made by every single governing body is correct, but from what I’ve read, this really is the best way that we know of to get this thing under control.
In any case, let’s keep on subject - running, and adorable pet pictures!
ETA: Sorry for all the edits. It’s been a long week. I think we’re all just doing our best here.

This x100. Here in NZ our cases jumped from 12 to 20 overnight. So by the weekend that's likely to be 40,then 80,then 160.
The growth in cases is exponential. So within 2 weeks, its not a couple of hundred, it's a couple of thousand, in a country of 5 million.
We only have 220 ventilators in NZ. That's it. Maximum. So as the number increases, the deaths will as well.
My worry isn't me. It isn't my immediate family. Its my Inlaws, both over 70 and my FIL is tetraplaegic. He spent a week in hospital last year. Its my mum with chronic bronchitis. It's all my patients that I could potentially be affecting.8 -

Day 1 of work from home - mixed results so far. I let myself sleep in a little until the dog got demanding. After breakfast and coffee I decided I should just try to exhaust said dog so I could get my work done. We went on a lovely hike and practiced being a good girl who sits and walks nicely.
Then I worked for several hours, but not super productively. My neighbors' driveway was being replaced so there was lots of loud noise as they dug out and releveled. The dog was not as content as I had hoped and wanted to go in and out multiple times. I don't have a good home office set up so I need to work on that. Anyway I then went out to meet a friend for a safe-distance from each other run. I was so happy to see her, she is someone I truly admire as a person and running mentor and it was so nice to run and talk and catch up. It was lovely to take a break.
Back home to more work. Still working. I am not loving this "spring break" so far.
The next two races I was signed up for are cancelled as well. A couple I was considering are likely cancelled. I've been debating a couple of races in June and July but will likely hold off a bit before committing at this point. So the only remaining thing on my calendar is not until September.

I walked out of a set of chats and went for a run. Needed to unplug. Juggling what to do with a congregation of folks which includes every age from newborn to 90, many healthy, some on chemo, and etc in the face of plague is challenging. I literally told everyone "I am unplugging all technology and going for a run" and left. They knew me well enough to know I meant it too.
Was good. Did 10 miles, was overdressed but did not die and stayed wide of the handful of other people out walking and such. I was on mainly back roads so the only people I saw were walking dogs and such, maybe 4.
When we regrouped later things were much clearer, and we have a plan at least for this week. For a church is it not as simple as "just meet online" or whatever. We have people that need food, and other supplies. People that need rides to medical appointments and such. We might not be "first responders" as some see it, but often we are the ones left when everyone else leaves.
We need to spread love, help the helpless, and still do our part to keep separate. We are far from having all things figured out but old fashioned phone trees are being resurrected at the very least and of course, all services are online. That was the easy part. The rest with God's help we will get worked out.
Thank goodness I went for that run though. Some times you just need to break away from it all and empty your head so ideas can flow back in.
So, my advice this night from my little bunker in the war on disease is: take time to unplug. Turn off the news/phone/etc and read a book, go for a run (if you can), whatever it takes for your mental health. You can not help anyone if you are drowning yourself.

I got in 9 rage miles at Shelby Farms. I say rage miles because it was only planned to be 10k. Didn’t feel like running - or doing anything other than staying in bed in fact - got out there, didn’t feel like stopping. Then the rangers locked us in! I’ve been late getting back from a run before and had to drive past the locked “in” gate but never have they locked the “out” gate too! We weren’t that late, either, and the park was still crowded. People were driving up over the landscaping to get around the gates down by the Fed Ex center. It has rained a lot so there was some serious damage done. We ended up finding a gate that was still open down by Mullins Station but it took us twenty minutes of driving around trying various locked exits.
So, anyway, part of my rage was that I guess this is going to be my last run at the park. Just too many people, big families walking side by side and it wasn’t even slightly possible to maintain a safe distance when passing on the trails. It’s far enough from home that I also need to pee and the bathrooms were crowded with women shoulder to shoulder. I guess parks are one of the few things left open and the kids are home so everyone is headed to the parks. Since I have a seven percent chance of dying if I get Coronavirus I can’t play around with it. Some people were completely disregarding personal space, others were going out of their way trying to open a pull door using only their elbows (does not work), and one older lady had a mask around her neck but wasn’t wearing it.
Once we got out onto the Greenline it was okay, mostly bicycles. The casual park goers won’t walk that far. So possibly we can find a place to park on the Greenline (we have parked at Starbucks before) and avoid the park altogether. That just leaves needing a restroom. Again, Starbucks works, but I think they have gone to driveup only. There are too many people around to just crouch in the bushes.
Parking lot full as we drove up, never seen it like this except on weekends:
As runs go it was pretty good. We saw the usual herds of deer. Deer are starting to shed their winter coats! Mockingbirds are starting to sing in the trees lining the Greenline. We also saw a leprechaun on the drive down there! A little girl and her dad had dressed up and were standing in their front yard with a sign for rush hour traffic. I was going the wrong direction to see the sign but they made me smile.
Incidentally there really wasn’t any rush hour traffic, even though we drove through the main drag of the traffic corridor at just after 5 pm. A lot of people must be working from home.6 -
Love the pet pictures. I'm going to have to find a cute one of my Tippy and post it.
@PastorVincent I'm glad to hear that your church is working on plans to make sure those in need aren't forgotten during this time. Also glad you were able to get out and clear your head. Being a pastor is hard. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
@rheddmobile That is a LOT of people in the park. Too bad a lot of them weren't trying to maintain their distance from each other. AND, so weird about the park gates being locked. With the damage, I would guess they will reconsider that decision in the future.

I have heard absolutely nothing about my Marathon at the beginning of June and I'm hoping I do not. I did purchase insurance on the race, though, even though I am not sure if I would need it under the current circumstances, assuming money would just be refunded anyway.2
