Many things are changing and many things will change in the current climate. Things will be tougher than normal which you may consider a sacrifice on your part. We are being asked to be sensible, look after each other and tough it out for a period of time. All for what? Well, so a few million people across the globe don't die - kind of worth it. I expect my situation to get a lot tougher as I work in travel, it won't change the fact I have an amazing family, great friends and reasonably good health. I'm going to stick with those things whatever else changes and make the most of what we do have. It really is, could be, and has been, a lot worse for many so keep smiling people! At the very least it makes others wonder what you've been up to! 😊12

I'm feeling grateful for my outdoor running habit today, as they closed all the common areas in my apartment yesterday -- including the gym. I wasn't surprised, as I heard from people in other apartment buildings that this was already happening for them.

Went out for the usual 10k today, ended up doing almost 8 miles at a good pace too - 3 of those miles at 9:45ish!. Felt good, and I had more time today since I'm going to be working from home...My job is not the easiest to do from home though. But it is what it is.
So glad our parks and green ways still open. There were not any more out today than usual, which is great for the situation we are in. @rheddmobile It has to be tough I'm sure.
Hang in there everyone...we can all get through this, sacrifice and help keep others safe. I'm in the high risk category, but even if I weren't we all do what we have to for the common good.
Much love to all11 -

I got up and ran 5 miles this morning. I kind of didn't want to get up and get going, but I'm glad I did. We had thunderstorms all night and I have one dog that really hates thunder. She barked and whined a lot and kept me up. The other two were fine, but Pup was not happy. So it was a rough night. But when I got up this morning it had stopped raining so I decided to go ahead and run. There is a chance of thunderstorms again tonight and also in the morning so I figured it would be better to run today and take tomorrow as a rest day.
All in all the run was good. It was 63°F feels like 64°F with 100% humidity. I think that this was the first run of the year where the feels like temp was higher than the actual temp. It was nice to run in shorts and a tank top, but the humidity was brutal and I'm ready to be done with rain for a while. The rain had stopped by the time I ran, but there was lots of water on the road and sidewalks. I splashed through several small puddles and then on the way home there was one place where the road was covered in water and there was no going around. I knew there would be water there and I ran through the middle part of the road where it is usually the shallowest, but I was still surprised that the water was up to my ankles and my shoes were completely soaked. Luckily that was only about .25 miles from home and it wasn't cold.
Here is a picture of the culprit who kept me up last night. Yesterday was her birthday and she is 10 years old.
2020 races:
5/16/20: Run for 57th AHC Half Marathon 🤞12 -

Thanks! Me too!1 -
I'm thankful to be working from home for my health and others health. I will most likely end up with the virus as DH works in sales and they are asking why they can't get more people in.
Target will be open an hour earlier for the elderly and those with health conditions. How do they know who falls under the health conditions? I look like a healthy, youngish person but I'm high risk with my asthma. And even though they believe non-active celiac doesn't make you immunocompromised they warned that celiac does make people more susceptible to pneumonia (been there, done that, don't want it again) and vaccines (flu, shingles) may not work as well. GREAT.7 -

My understanding is that nobody is going to be asked to "prove" their vulnerable status. They're simply asking non-vulnerable guests to plan their shopping around this planned time for other guests. Note: I work for Target, but have nothing to do with the stores or this policy. This is just based on the public information I've read about the policy and is my personal opinion.1 -

I most likely wouldn't go as I have a low-risk person at home that can run errands but you never know. The email Target sent out didn't say how it would work (and we all know people will take advantage of this that aren't affected)1 -

Yes, unfortunately you can always count on jerks and people trying to take advantage.0 -
@kgirlhart That birthday girl has the best eyes! What a beautiful pup!
My gym is still open but its smallish and at a family neighborhood club. They are limiting it to 10 people at a time. I took a chance and went early this morning and had the cardio room all to myself. Wiped everything down before and after. I don’t have a bike here until Saturday so I took a chance. It was good to get some exercise.
Hang in there everyone!

For everyone whose races were canceled and were wondering what to do to keep the level of fitness or race readiness, I saw this article from Runners World:

Short but sweet 3k near home. Trying to back off before running 21.1 on Friday, but really needed to go for a run. Saw an acquaintance from church walking her dog and didn't even stop, just said hi and kept running. Then I wondered if that was rude of me, or if that's what we're supposed to do now. There was a line outside the pharmacy, looks like one person goes in at a time and everyone else waits outside (standing 1 meter apart of course). Strange times...
March goal 100 miles (stretch goal 200 km)
Upcoming races:
March 20 - Running my own HM to replace postponed race9 -
@RunsOnEspresso - I saw that same email and had the same thought as you. I hate to think poorly of people but you just know someone is going to use it as a way to get in early.
@mbaker566 - so happy the little pup is going to his fur-ever home! I am sure they will be happy to have him especially now.
@bearly63 - so great to get a workout in at an empty gym! All of the gyms here closed earlier this week so I am making the most of what I have at home in between running days.
@kgirlhart - Happy Birthday to your beautiful girlie! Have you ever tried a thunder shirt (or just a tightly wrapped shirt) on her? I was very dubious but tried it with Hobbes and he is SO much better with it. They also use at our doggy daycare place for pups that get anxious and it makes a world of difference for them.
Rest day for me today. I was going to try to run a little but my sore groin muscle is still sore so I thought it best to rest it and try running tomorrow. I may get Hobbes out for a walk though just to get some of the crazies out (his and mine 🥴).6 -
A lot more people walking dogs during my run through the back roads today. I think people are getting stir crazy4

My actual race was cancelled but I went and did the virtual option anyway (as did many others). I did opt to drop to the 5 mile distance (since not a real race). I also want to mention that when I left there were a couple of cases in NY. When I came home, CT is in lockdown, everything closed, no gatherings of more than 50 - mass hysteria and doom everywhere. It was 3 1/2 days.
Anyway-my “race” report. Because I still had fun and it’s gorgeous.
The Canyonlands half marathon (and 5 mile) was covid-cancelled. The race company offered a virtual option or you could get 65% of your race fee as a credit for another race in the next year.
Since I would not have been able to rebook travel to coincide with a race that would fit my schedule, I opted to continue with my trip to Moab and run the virtual race while I was here.
Since I have no business running any race at all right now (recovery is still painfully slow), a virtual run is a much better option. It gave me a chance to do a leisurely, photo-op “run” along a paved path that is adjacent to the race route road (rt 128).
The magical thing about this road, and the reason this race is so special, is that rt 128 is a narrow, winding road carved right next to towering canyon walls on one side, and the Colorado River on the other. You are “in” nature. You can run your hands along the red rock walls as you run down the road. Much of the paved bike path (where I ran) is over the banks of the river because there’s just no more land (aside from the 2 narrow road lanes between the rock wall and the river).
It is stunning, it is awe inspiring, it is a landscape that is unmatched elsewhere. It’s also why rt 128 is the second most scenic road in the US (pacific coast highway is #1).
The arches half marathon (run on the other half of rt 128) remains the most beautiful place I have ever run.
Anyway-I decided to run a 5 mile virtual “race”. Note: I ran 7.5 last Saturday and it was just as awful as every other run for the last few months. My legs are still shot. Although more like December shot vs late January shot-so some improvement. But not “let’s go bang out a half PR” kind of improvement.
So I drove to the place that would have been the finish line for the race. The paved path runs 2.5 miles up 128 from there. So my virtual race route was to run out and back.
Start my gadgets. Start moving. Drop gum. Drop water bottle. Drop battery. Drop phone. FFS.
Everything back and packed in. Now we’re cruising. .12 miles. Now I need to pee. Sigh. Pee. Timer still going. I’m going to blame my race time on scrubbing my hands for 20 seconds.
Get going again. Stop for pics 1-18. Run 100 yards. Stop for pics. Am I hot? Do I need to take off my jacket? Run 100 yards. More pics. More jacket debate.
First mile finished in a Kenyan-like 17:14.
The remaining miles were much the same. Although there was disrobing and re-robing along with the photos.
I took a zillion photos but it’s just not possible to really capture the enormity of these rock formations. And the feeling of being “in” them. It’s the reason I wanted to run this race. It’s something I’ve never experienced elsewhere.
Anyway-ran out. Stopped for some water. Managed to inadvertently hurl my water bottle at a biker when I was trying to put it back in my belt. Turned around and ran back. More pics. More jacket on/off. The sun was starting to go down - which makes the colors of the rocks so vibrant. More pics. More awe at the landscape. Several passes back and forth across the footbridge to capture more photos.
After spending 22 minutes (race timer still going) taking more pics, someone‘s cookout makes me very hungry so I decide my virtual race is done.
5.43 miles in 1:32. Average pace 17:06. LOLOL. I wonder if I placed in my AG?
22 min of that is the last .43 miles. That’s darn near Olympian pace! Well-considering the approx 347 pictures I stopped to take...
I know I podiumed for “most bomb-*kitten* photo run” and for getting damn close to the real thing when my race is covid-canceled.
If you want to see some pics-I’m duck_puddle on Instagram and there are pics there (also my dog).
