Lanette My partner just finished an audible book on the Spanish flu. I wonder if it was the one you are thinking of? It's by John M. Barry. The Great Influenza
Beth Will be thinking of you as you get your disabled son home. I know the adjustment will be a challenge. Glad your younger son is there to help with the physical demands.
Barbie Lots of meals from that nice turkey!

Jack and I are hanging out at home, he has heart problems and COPD, so I've restricted his leaving home lol. My daughter is still going to the office daily and working 60 hours and week until tax season is over. She has found a cute little three bedroom house to rent with a great backyard for her dogs. It's not available until April 3 so we'll see what shakes out by then. She can't return to CO to move her household items until after tax time anyway. It's about three miles from our house, perfect .
I've lost a few pounds the last couple of weeks, daily exercise is still essential. We have two great-grandbabies arriving in about two weeks. I'm trying not to worry about tiny ones in a hospital given the current medical situation.
Love you my friends

DH just went to Aldi's. Fortunately he went at an off time. He got mad at me because he is right I was running around getting supplies more than I should have been. I did try to take precautions that I know he is not doing like wipes at doors. In and out as quick as I can. I did get take out from a One person show. This too will stop. DH still is behind in how serious this crisis is. He is still in the how this is effecting him. He will soon come to the place I am. In the meantime I just need to be patient and do what I can do to protect him from himself.
Beth prayers I know you are making a good decision. I am glad we have a safe place to take our son when they are ready to release him.
I did call hospital and told them I am ready to help son at home if he is up for it. I did request a two months supply of his meds. I know it goes against protochol but times are different now. I will leave it to the doctor to decide what is best but if I am ready to do my part to take some pressure off the medical system.
Allie there are all kinds of things on line that are free for your granddaughter. Museum visits, exercise, yoga. These are great since getting out and many of the schools are scrabling for their educators to get things up and running for students. Having her write and read are always wonderful activites.

Walking a lot, reading, not a whole lot more. Trying to convince DH to order stuff for pickup at Walmart just to go for a ride.

Rang my friend. She says she still can't work out whether she's got it or not. Dry cough, feeling off and a bit hot sometimes. Otherwise ok. She has told my difficult friend, who is being philosophical.
Then DH went out to give the grass its first mow of the season. I told him to be careful of his back. He then started on preparing the ground for a couple of sheets of "roll out" wildflower seeds I bought him for Christmas. I went out to help him. How great if it works! The reviews were good. We have covered it with some old compost and then DH had the brilliant idea of using the pigeon spikes that came off the guttering when we had them cleaned to protect the areas from the crowds of pigeons around here. Hope to have a lovely show in the spring and summer.
The wonderful travel firm, Nomadic Thoughts, that we used for many years to go to places like India, Morocco, Mexico etc etc, have just announced they have had to abandon all their business and are closing for now. They have been going for 35 years and won numerous awards for "best boutique luxury company ". We know them personally after all this time. Very sad. DH wrote them a nice email and we have just had a personal one back which was lovely. Let's hope they can get back up and running eventually.
Still haven't heard from Saga.
Will start dinner in a moment.

Your post caught my attention because of your profile picture. It is a Klimt, of course. Did you know that Klimt died of the Spanish flu? Aaaarrrgh! Actually, he may have had other conditions, but it finished him off.

Karen - yes, that's the book!! Thank you - will try to find it. I think that in looking at the history of pandemics, there is always something we can glean applicable to now.
Those penguins checking out the aquarium are a hoot! Splendid idea!
Canada/US border crossings:Last I heard the US/Canada borders were closing for non-essential traffic, so trucks/commerce will continue per mutual agreement of both countries. In other words, they are saying stay home if you can, people, until they get their arms around this thing a bit more.
Janetr - Thank you for checking in! Sounds like you are doing all the right things and glad your DD is fitting in. I was wondering about you and Suebdew this morning.
Barbie - great reminder. If we're out of something and not desperate, do without or substitute. Save on gas and wear and tear on your car too. I'll be over for a turkey sandwich, will text you half an hour prior to arrival so you can have it made and waiting on the front porch. Will I get chips with that?
Beth - great that you'll have your St. Patrick's meal waiting. Way to go! Good idea bringing your son home, seems like caregivers aren't adequately trained or supervised, nor do they have the same level of concern we do about our loved ones (many do, to their credit, but they can burn out).
Margaret, hoping all works out best for your son and if it's meant to be that he is released into your care, that you have the assistance you need. Crossing fingers since your DH hit Aldi's at a non-busy time, he's OK. All grocery stores around here are wiping down and sanitizing continually and they likely are in your area, too.
Kids out of school and now at home are helping in all kinds of ways. Pretty darn neat.

The reason most people fail instead of succeed is that they trade what they want the MOST for what they want at the MOMENT.
This applies to the urge to run to the store for some impulse purchase. Do I really need potatoes to go with the turkey I cooked yesterday?
I agree. I think the reason we want to run out and get that one more thing is because that's what we normally do. Three months ago, if I wanted potatoes, I would run out and get them. It's difficult to switch your thinking around. l know my family is still trying to adjust to this.
I will say that we stocked up on supplies this past weekend, and with our family of 5 (college boy coming home on Friday), with three boys between the ages of 13-24 and a snacking husband, I was shocked this morning to open the refrigerator and see that I already have empty spots again. It's okay. I'm not panicking, but I was surprised.
I am working from home. My boss is not taking it seriously, and kept scheduling meetings, but I think he is finally getting. He cancelled a couple meetings and moved others to a Zoom option. I feel so 21st century. I have 3 zoom meetings this afternoon, and my son has his cello lesson via zoom on Friday.
Much love,
Flea

Machka: In your situation I think work from home would be ideal. It seems to be mostly computer work from what I’ve gleaned from your comments. I wish you sensible bosses and a reasonable work situation. Our grocery stores are well stocked but there was a panic buy out of toilet paper. Hopefully the panic will subside soon and we won’t have to worry about availability. We have a reasonable supply on hand for now. :ohwell:
Sue: I hope things go well for your daughter. I don’t know what company she works for, but I imagine they need to be able to ship and receive. Sending good thoughts your way. Your mom is lovely and so is the kitty. :flowerforyou:
Tracey in Edmonton: Can people facetime or skype to their loved ones in the care facility?
Kim: You are blessed with a caring neighbor. I hope things go well for you.
LuciBThinner: Happy Anniversary!
Pip: I don’t know whether our fitness club is open. I haven’t checked facebook to see what they’ve arranged, but my last yoga class had a teacher and three students. I suspect that yoga will be off of my list of choices for a while. Our county has had no known cases so far.
Barbara: Your school bus food delivery is brilliant. Small towns have a lot going for them.
RVRita: It is amazing how empty your park seems to be. It is also spectacularly beautiful! :flowerforyou:
Amber: Thanks for The Lock Down Blues. It put a smile on my face.
Heather: Good news that your friend is okay.
Michele: Congrats to you for working at the soup kitchen. You are one of the angels today.
Lisa: I love “this too shall pass.” Thanks!
Lanette: The teleporter function is a nice one, but it is essential to have the time machine function as well. Perhaps we can all teleport to the days when the virus is over and done.
Our cleaner would ordinarily come today but we’re skipping this week. I’ll vacuum up dog hair and call it good. We’re otherwise tidy. My car is still in the garage for repair. They need to get parts for the bumper that was damaged. Luckily, DH’s car is available and runs just fine.
Cologuard test came back clean and clear BUT my doctor wasn’t happy with details and wants me to go in for a colonoscopy. I am NOT a happy camper. I have a tentative appointment in May. I plan to talk to her via phone or in person as soon as I can arrange that. I need to understand.
Be as safe as you can.

afternoon ladies~ Tal having left over burger King heated up.. I got Dan home and picked up a few things to have here from Family Dollar.. Everyone really are enjoying the little quick breads and I am glad.. I worry about some of the real elderly that are in the complex.. most everyone is just staying away from each other.. so that is good..
Tracy will be here in an hour or so and then will have the place to myself.. I have gotten so used to it, I crave it now...5 -
Machka- It is wonderful you support your husbands baking. It is great for him.
My office just pushed for us to work from home if we want to. Unfortunately, I can only work from home part of the day since some of my responsibilities require me to be in the office. I figured I can enjoy my coffee at home while I respond to emails in the morning then come in later in the day. Both of my teens are at home. I have a feeling that their schools will stay closed until the end of the year. We will see.
Take care,
Anna from OK3 -
On my Facebook page timeline I have a number of activites for children posted for those of you who have or know or children who need academic activites. A fellow retired teacher is posting them and the I put them on my timeline. The schools are working like crazy to create online curriculum for our students. So a big shout out for teachers!!! It will take some time to get up to speed so know theri is wonderful material out there already to use might help the parents who have not have to be in this role save themselves and their children headaches. I have two nieces who are now in this postion, so much of this is for them, too.
I am involved because I have a good teacher friend who is in the throws of this and is not on Facebook because her district discourages them joining, so I send her these links via e-mail.3 -
Katla I do hope you can get this colonoscopy issue with your doctor over & done. As you know, I am pro-colonoscopy. But the Cologuard test in select patients is very reliable (99.94% negative predictive value). You have had a negative test. Why did you do Cologuard if you are going to have a colonoscopy anyway? That's the question I would want answered.

Hello everyone! Another day to hear about closings, etc. because of the virus. I made supper for my son & family last night. I ate my portion before they got here. It was a recipe from Michael d. Symon and it came out good. Everybody ate and no complaints. Looking forward to tonight;s menu(tacos, sloppy joe's). I have been walking the entire mile of the 1k race and my time is not getting better. I've got some things at the store so hopefully I can stay put.
Hope everyone is safe and sound,
I couldn't figure out why it seemed so cold in living room just now so I looked at the heater. It was on the cool setting instead of HEAT. I know it was one of the grands as they say it's too loud and the remote was on the couch. Time to hide that thing.
Have to go read the last 6 pages.

Here is a resource for line dancing at home. Move to the 5 minute mark to get to the dance lesson. You are supposed to be able to access without membership to Facebook.
Virtual line dance class
Posted: 17 Mar 2020 05:46 PM PDT
Ira Weisburd is having a virtual line dance class every Tuesday morning
from 9:30-11:30 am CDT. The dances are easy and fun. You don’t have to
be on Facebook to do the class, just use the link below.
I think the videos will stay active so you can still see this week’s class.
There were a few glitches with everything backwards at first, but that is
all worked out now that the camera was reversed. It is a challenge to try
to do technology yourself from your dining room. I think it is great that
he is doing this for all of us. You also see his wife, Diane and their cute
Little dog, Amber. Check it out. Thanks Ira!

Well, the Coronavirus has a silver lining! For the first time in FOREVER my elder son rang me to check on how I was!!!!! I can hardly believe it. Lovely to chat to him. I found out that my ex, with whom I have a friendly relationship, is extremely worried about his situation and is considering renting a separate flat for the duration. He has two teenage children and a working wife with chest issues. My ex has liver disease and kidney cancer plus heart issues.
I'm going to email him in a minute.
Then I had only just put the phone down when my brother rang me!!!! That doesn't happen often either! He is diabetic, his son is coeliac, his daughter has asthma, so they are being very careful. Holidays and trips all cancelled. His ex wife and her husband are currently on holiday in Jamaica! Oooops!
Anyway, it was lovely to have conversations with all my best beloved. As I say, silver linings.
All schools now cancelled except for vulnerable children and key workers children. Luckily government advice says they shouldn't be looked after by grandparents. Phew!
Exams cancelled. Might have to rely on teacher recommendation for uni places. My ex's daughter and my nephew both at that stage.
The Chinese curse. "May you live in interesting times."

Karen in VA: I agree with you. I have not been able to contact my doctor directly so far. I've only heard from her assistant, and I dislike the assistant. The things she says smack of dogmatic, and I generally go around her to the doctor. I've sent a written question to the doctor and am confident she will eventually respond. I would like to avoid Portland hospitals at this time. My county has no virus cases so far. I don't want to be the first. :noway:
