@Avidkeo Happy anniversary!!! Plus, fueling in advance is an excellent strategy I use often.
@Teresa502 Congratulations on winning the draw!!!
How far in advance would be considered to be too far in advance? Not asking for a friend...7 -

Question for the more experienced runners.
Is coughing after a run normal? Not wheezing, but actual coughing. I can breathe fine. Its like phlegm deep in the chest but it's hard to get it to come up. And not for a couple minutes either, it usually lasts anywhere from a few hours to a day or two.
I thought it was just a part of running and I've jokingly called it runner's cough. I mentioned it to my dad, who was a long distance runner for most of my childhood until he got injured, and he looked at me like I was crazy and asked what I was talking about.
It could be normal. My husband has asthma and the cool air, even 65F-72ish will prompt coughing and phlegm. Google exercise induced asthma and see if that describes what you are experiencing. It often gets better with training. When I started running it'd happen to me to but did get better. I had no phlegm though. So, you might also consider that you may have a bit of asthma.

Haha! I need to lose 10 pounds (22kg). So, I'm pre-fueled to run 437 miles (728 km)!

If it's any commiseration, 10 pounds is 4.5 kilos or so, not 22!
Yeah, the rate I'm going I should be carb loaded for most of this decade....
Amazing how much not being able to go out at all limits movement. Even though I'm still exercising a lot, my daily step count has halved just from not running errands and stuff.4 -
Morning all. A few good fuel giggles haha. I think im well fueled for my marathon in July by now lol.
Got woken early by work - on call this weekend. So am chilling in bed before going for my long run 16k!! I'm excited and nervous. I know I'll be fine, mentally it doesn't seem that long but I'm doing my 8k route twice and I know that second gentle uphill slog is going to be a challenge.
Time for coffee and breakfast!4 -
Okay so work today...... is crazy. But..... it's FRIDAY and I think I've decided I'll run a half marathon tomorrow for my virtual series. As long as my IT band is up for it. I've been taking it soooooo easy, so I'm hoping hoping hoping.
I wanted to jump in on the "Shy extrovert" conversation - SO. MUCH. THIS.
I live my whole life with proverbial walls because I'm just too busy not to! I have a life group from church and my kids and people I work with - I'm around people ALL THE TIME and I prefer to only engage when I want to. But no, I'm not an introvert by any means. Just maybe a really private, sometimes but not always reserved extrovert?
Anyway, I was just telling my twin brother the other day how COVID19 has REALLY driven MORE connection. Everyone is pushing so much harder to connect and I'm sitting here, totally overwhelmed by all the people talking about their feelings, thinking... 'NO!!!! I DO NOT WANT TO CONNECT WITH YOU!' Is that awful? Surely it's awful....
Anyway, have to hop back to it. I'm excited about running. So so excited. It'll be great to have purpose again.5 -

I think I'm fueled up through the 2020 racing season and about halfway through the 2021 season.9 -
I don't think I'll make a goal this month. Now that I've cut back the running from 50 miles per week to less than 5 over the last 2 weeks, my "runner's knee" is acting up. I'm sure that's how this is supposed to work.
I might run tomorrow, or not. I hope I don't lose all my fitness before my mojo returns. I have a contact at a home health care facility to donate masks to, and they're looking for another 800. So, at least I'm keeping busy. (They don't expect me to provide all 800 of them, but I'm looking forward to making as many as I can...)5 -

No.
It may just be allergies though. Being outside more means more pollen. Do you notice it only at certain times of the year? Or is worse some times and better others? Does temperature matter?
It also MIGHT be mild asthma.
Normally I would say ask your doctor, but given the times we live in, I suggest you wait a few months on that. Showing up to the docs with an unexplained cough right now might get a swab jammed up your nose.
Or not. Dh was telling me a story of someone with cv symptoms and they were turned away and told to call the cdc. I don’t know protocol, but do know there’s a hotline. Just if I can’t breath, I’d figure they know what to do and not be told to go home. But I wasn’t there, so this is hearsay, or is it conjecture? Stalling. Need to study for 2 awful exams mon and tues.4 -

It's one of the big issues here in NZ. If people don't fit the profile perfectly, they aren't getting tested. I get the concern though, we can only test about 3000 people a day, but if we test everyone who wants to be tested, then we will run out of tests in only a couple days and can't test when needed. But the worry is thet we are missing lots of people who have it that don't fit exactly. Just yesterday they opened out testing to anyone with symptoms. Will see what happens.

I ran 16k! That's 10 miles (according to hal lol) I laughed cause Hal congratulated me for running double digits, and I was like, I've dun double digits before, ohhh miles lol.
I really enjoyed today's run! I was going at a great pace for me. I did remind myself to slow down from time to time, I was aiming to average around 6 min per k, and I got 6:04 per k so really happy with that. Occasionally I'd creap up but would slow. So did really well listening to my body as I went.
At around 14k my hip flexors started to ache a bit. I remembered that my last long run, this happened at about 2k before the end as well, so I'm definitely improving the muscles. It wasn't too bad, I was able to ignore it mostly. Made me glad for the rest days, and really glad I never gave into temptations to go for runs on my day off. Definitely best to stick to the plan.
So I'm now going to just chill, relax and enjoy my day.
Just a happy pic in the spoiler today16 -
@Avidkeo Great run. Love the pictures. Glad the hip is doing well.
Today was a rest day. What did I do? I went out and cut little cedar trees out of my pasture field. So, basically, I was doing toe touches and, while bent over, swinging a hatchet for 2.5 hours. Don't know if I'll be able to use my arm tomorrow. Hope my legs aren't too sore from the stretching either, as I really need to run tomorrow.5 -
After work I headed to our little park and ran 3.10 miles on the trail. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon and about 65F. I was afraid there might be people out and about but I was the only one on the trail. One guy that I knew was shooting basketball and we talked from a distance which was nice. First person I had talked to face to face in a few days.
@quilteryoyo - great cross training!
@autumnblade75 - so nice of you to sew those masks. I’m sure they will be greatly appreciated.2 -

Testing in USA is spotty. Here we literally have drive through testing locations where anyone can be tested for free (they will bill insurance if you have it) but I have heard of other areas where there are not testing at all.
UPMC announced they have a vaccine ready for human trials so that could be very good news!4 -

Oh man, today was a day when it's probably a good thing to be not in the same building as certain co-workers, because I was filled with rage about people dropping the ball in major ways. After spending the day trying to fix things, I went for a run at about 3:30 to get it done and work out some stress. I had to walk up my nemesis hill but otherwise the run felt pretty good and very needed. It was chilly, rainy and muddy but I didn't care too much.
I just did a virtual happy hour with some work friends (not the same ones who made me furious) and now I feel a little more zen about things. The wine helped.
@quilteryoyo and @noblsheep, thanks. I hope my project works too and I'll definitely report back.
Great job @avidkeo!6 -
3.5 miles today, shortest run this week!4
-
April goal: 200 miles and as usual I hope for more
4/1 14.48 miles, 702 days on the run
4/2 15.31 miles
4/3 2.48 miles
Really enjoyed the 'dew claws up' picture.
Only thing that has changed is my stress and anxiety levels have increased...quite a bit. I still have to go to work. Being essential is hard sometimes when you take care of your mother to.
Social distance is not hard for me. When I was in college (a long long time ago), I lived in the dorm my first year. My roommate and I were so well matched, we went 9 months without speaking to each other.9 -
Today was my first run at hill repeats. So Yeah. That was "fun"7

I talked to my daughter tonight and one of the things she said they are having issues with in WA with the testing is that the virus symptoms are so different in so many people. Some have a cough, some don't, some have sinus or stomach or body aches, etc., some have all or none. I asked about how long it really stays active, or how long after the symptoms are gone are you still contagious (shedding virus) and it varies, some people a few days, some as soon as the symptoms are gone they test negative, some it could be a week to 10 days or more. It is really a challenge and makes it difficult if you are testing based on a specific set of symptoms which is what the CDC has put out.
@PastorVincent - you may have drive through testing but my understanding is you cannot just get a test because you want one. You still have to have an appointment and for that you have to have a doctor recommend it based on, your symptoms.
@avidkeo - awesome job on your long run!
@AlphaHowls - that is so funny about your college roommate!
I ran my Gratitude Un-Canceled 10k today. It wasn't pretty, wasn't my best but I got it done. I am not sure why but my legs just seem so uncooperative lately. I thought about not running but that really wasn't an option. Especially considering it is supposed to rain, a lot, next week. The one good thing about the rain is I don't think there will be so many people out on the trail. I was getting so frustrated that there were so many people walking 3 and 4 across and not moving for people wanting to pass or coming from the opposite direction. The trail isn't super wide - it has a single lane in each direction. So as a result I headed out to the dirt service road again for the last few miles.6 -
10k easy, around the neighborhood. This was inevitable but today I had my first faceplant as a result of broken sidewalk. I’m frankly amazed I lasted this long, in the past when I tried to run here it was about every third run. Not seriously injured but elbow scraped and a big gouge out of my palm where I caught it on a broken slab. At least my leggings aren’t damaged!
Tennessee is now officially under stay at home. Before it was just “the governor urges you to stay at home,” and traffic levels did drop, but as I observed last time I posted, that seems to have lasted about a week before people got sick of it and went back to normal. It’s funny looking at the charted line on Unacast - when we first started social distancing my county had a B rating, then a few days later it dropped all the way to a D-. So, yeah, this is why we can’t have nice things. Now the police are politely explaining that they will give you a misdemeanor citation so cut it out. Tonight there was a ton of traffic, and I ran past a house party! What the actual ef, people. They were bbqing in the backyard and there were about 25 people.
Some positives have come out of this. We frequently get takeout from this one family-owned Italian place. After years and years they know us, and most of the delivery drivers are good friends (we also tip well) except for the adult son of the owner, who is kind of a surly jerk. I get the feeling he hoped to grow up and do literally anything else and his parents wanted him to take over the business and he doesn’t wear it well. Anyway today he brought us food and my husband stood outside and talked with him (at a distance) about everything under the sun, how the business is doing, how afraid he is about delivering, what precautions they are taking, and so on, and they wished each other well and are friends now. I guess you realize how much you like people in general when it seems like they might just die any day.
In other news my mom is driving me bonkers. We had to cancel her debit card because she gave it to a phone scammer posing as an extended car warranty company. She was convinced it was okay because “it’s the same people I’ve been dealing with for years,” and I told her it was extremely unlikely they would cold call her out of the blue saying that she had to take action today or she would be cut off forever, and to call the company directly, and surprise it wasn’t them and they had no idea what was going on and no one by the name she was given (‘but he was so helpful!’ ‘Yes, mom, scammers don’t tell you they are scammers...’) even worked there. The most annoying thing is the bank instantly pegged this as a scam and wouldn’t put the money through, so SHE CALLED THE BANK TO TELL THEM TO DO IT ANYWAY. ughhhhhh9 -
My running motivation has taken a bit of a hit in recent weeks. So I need a bit of help I’ve only run a few times since March 4th so going to see how I get on.7
-
Last night, as I was fretting over the really tough week Hal has planned for me next week with a tough interval run on Thursday and then a '5k race simulation on Saturday' at a faster pace than I think I can run for an outdoor 5k let alone a treadmill run, I had one of those lightbulb moments that make you realise how dumb you are.
I am following a plan, but there isn't going to be an actual race. So it really doesn't matter whether I do what Hal tells me to or not! I get too tied up in wanting that pat on the back for following instructions precisely.
SO I decided to do them slower. I figure as the app is adaptive (supposedly), if I log slower runs that he's telling me to do and report that they were very tough he might lighten up on me!
With that in mind, I did this morning's 'long' run at a slow, relatively easy pace which ended up about 22 second per km slower than he had ordered. Yet he still gave me a pat on the back. Hmm. No doubt when I report back on the not so speedy speed work he'll notice lol.
In other news, today is day 1 of my 4th week without leaving our apartment. And our PM is expected to announce another 15 days today (on top of the week left to go, meaning it will b until April 26th at least!). We're going to try to make brownies after I do my yoga. We're gonna get so fat!
01/04: 4.81km tempo run
02/04: 6.57km base run
04/04: 9.6km easy 'long' run
April goal: 144km. Run so far: 20.98km7 -
@rheddmobile - ouch that looks sore! I had three falls in two weeks in May last year on broken pavements. It sucks! I bought new trainers after the third fall and it didn’t happen again - are your shoes ok/still have enough grip?
@avidkeo - awesome run!
It’s a stunning morning here in London and I went for a slightly longer run. I felt like I could have gone even further but I also want to keep up this daily streak so I’m being mindful about not getting too ambitious with distance or speed. Feels good to have got it done early and not have bumped into many other runners. With gorgeous weather forecast this weekend there’s been speculation that people will flout the lockdown, and police are likely to be out enforcing it. I’m taking essential supplies to my parents tomorrow and hope I don’t have any difficulty...
Have a safe and happy Saturday everyone x

Clear and frosty yet again this morning with little wind. Channeled my inner "Ghost of Jacob Marley" today - didn't run light and quick like a spirit, but felt like I was dragging "the chains I forged in life" behind me. Hip wasn't bad, though...
When you pop in here claiming your December 2020 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs
Run at least 4 5k races
Get a 5k PR
Average at least 138k per month, to meet my Run the Year pledge of 1,020 miles

I forgot to post yesterday. Lots of stuff happening here!
Great runs, stressful days, introverts and extroverts living together in harmony.
@rheddmobile That looks painful! Thank god it didn't involve face or teeth...ouch!
@avidkeo Your cat is so big! He or she could totally take my little pup. Nice run too!!!
@quilteryoyo The hatchet swing workout! Love it.
My son never bother to ask to get tested in NYC. The public health website just said stay home and don't come in to a doctor or hospital unless you can't breath. He had very typical flu symptoms, but did have dry cough and tickle in his chest when he breathed deep, which is why I think it was Covid. I would love to get him a seralogic blood test done when they are available to check for antibodies and also see if he can donate plasma.
I did make him do a telemed consult with a doctor before he flew home to make sure he was ok to be out. They confirmed the CDC rules of 10 days without symptoms and no fever not using tylenol. I am keeping him at a distance here for another week and he is not allowed in my kitchen, nor can he exercise in the house - only outside.
Hope everyone has a nice weekend...I am going to try to make a mask. Way less calories than baking dessert
