It's that time of the month again (month-end, and I'm an accountant), so I'm still working at half-eight in the evening. I therefore got my run earlier. It was damp, cold and drizzly, but I very much enjoyed it. It's good to get away from the desk in the middle of the day. I felt like I was playing hooky, even though I was trading an hour then for two now.
@katharmonic: have a wonderful time hiking this weekend. I confess to being slightly jealous - there's not that kind of scenery in London! I very much look forward to seeing more pics of glorious nature!
@Shortgirlrunning: Wow! Congratulations! I'm still chasing that time myself - well done to you for smashing it!
@rheddmobile: I'm so sorry your knee isn't any better.
Welcome @jntollaware !
Goals for the year:
1. Get back down to a decent running weight (currently set at 160lb)

@katharmonic – There are some great hikes in the Smokies. If you’re ever down this way, give me a shout. Maybe we can convince @quilteryoyo to join us for one. Hope you have a great get-away to the Adirondacks. You know we need pictures!
@bearly63 I guess I just thought it was hot here! That's brutal. Take care in that heat.
@AlphaHowls Congratulations on your 5 year MyFitnessPal-aversary. Love the meme.
2 -
Oh wow @bearly63 as if the daytime highs weren't bad enough only cooling down to 79 overnight... ugh!
@AlphaHowls - congratulations on your 5 year MFP Anniversary! Dew Claws Up!!2 -
@AlphaHowls - congrats on your MFP 5 anniversary! You have run many lifetimes in those 5 years 😱2
-
SoooOOoOoOOOOOooo... way behind in the thread with no hope of catching up. Had family here all week so just now trying to get back to a normal routine.
Today was first run in a week too. Air temp was 96, and Dew Point was around 75 so of course, I ran a half marathon at tempo pace, pushing into threshold for parts of it even. You know, cause that is smart and I am really thirsty now!
In other news, a juvenile bald eagle came to visit the other day. I tried to get a picture but he did not stay put long enough to get a good shot. The one I got was good enough to get a positive id on the bird, but that is about it. Hopefully, he will come around again and I will get better shot at him. That is one big bird though! Easily could tell it was not any of the typical birds, it even dwarfed the hawks that are common here.9 -
@AlphaHowls Woohoo! Congrats on your 800 days on the run and your MFP anniversary!
@PastorVincent I was so surprised at how large the bald eagles were when we visited Alaska. One came swooping down by our boat while we were out fishing and scared the crap out of me because it was so big!3 -
Congratulations @AlphaHowls! That's amazing!
@bearly63 Our forecast looks the same. It's really is brutal.1 -
I'm new here (to the running challenge, not to MFP)...
I've been getting back into running more after finally losing the 20 lbs I'd been carrying around for too long (still have more to go). I've worked up to just over 20 miles/week, and now trying to get to 25. I've struggled a bit with potential injury (sore heels and shins) and the beta blocker I'm now on for life due to a heart condition diagnosed last year. (Does anyone else here take a beta blocker?)
I think the heat and humidity are killing me, or it's the medication or a combination. I'm working on increasing speed as well, so maybe it's a little of everything! I'm still happy to be out there!
Anyway, it's already 7/9, but I'm in for 80 miles this month. My highest this year was May at 77 miles, but it dropped off in June due to a 10-day road trip to visit family.
7/1 5.27 mi
7/4 10 mi
7/6 7 mi
7/8 5 mi
7/9 2 mi
total so far is 29.27 miles
Thanks!8 -

0709-5k, total-20.7k goal-80k
It rained all day yesterday and was only about 22 degrees when I got out for a run at 9pm. Speed was faster than expected although I didn't feel like I was doing anything. I guess all the lifting is doing something after all, and the heat was masking it.
Also, got nearly a full night's sleep. Yay.
@lightenup2016 Welcome!
@AlphaHowls Congrats on your 5 years MFP anniversary!5 -

Welcome @lightenup2016.
@HanuNui Love your snorkeling pictures. I've never snorkeled, but would love to learn. I'd once thought I would like to scuba dive, but I think my mild claustrophobia would prevent me from doing that. Happy Anniversary!!!2 -

Sunny, mid 70s F, with humidity and a fitful breeze from the east. Back felt better, but I ran under control instead of all crazy. Saw two rabbits and a fox squirrel.
@AlphaHowls Happy anniversary. After you've run around the Earth, you can work on going from the Earth to the moon.

janejellyroll wrote: »@Shortgirlrunning Congratulations on the PR! I agree with you, it can be harder to stay motivated in the summer.
Totally! But I would rather run in the heat than the cold, and with heat indexes of over 100F here I still hold to that.
Though the 55F temp with low humidity is about the best temp, and the farther you get from that in either direction stinks more and more.
During the summer you can run in the morning to mitigate that a bit at least! That trick does not work in the winter.
3 -
@PastorVincent I love bald eagles! I hope you have another spotting.
I agree -- if I HAD to choose one over the other, I would choose summer running over winter running. I did a February marathon in New Orleans a couple of years ago, but I was training in Minnesota and I don't know if I would do that again. I run through the winter, but doing the long runs marathon training calls for was very difficult.
55 degrees is like the perfect running day which is why spring and fall are objectively the best seasons!

Happy Anniversary @HonuNui and @shanaber! Awesome snorkeling pictures!
I have to agree on summer running being better than winter running. I will complain about the heat, but if I had to choose I would rather run when it is too warm as opposed to too cold. Of course if I got to choose it would always be around 55°F when I was running.2 -

HAPPY FRIDAY!!! 😃 It has been raining on and off all morning and it a nice 86. Had a late start but got another 3.13 for the books 👍🏼.
Before Covid, my husband, son and I were participating in 5k at least (3) weekends a month for 5-6 months. My guys would run and I started walking. We would travel to different towns in our state, miss it a lot!!!
In the meantime, I got a new Proform Recumbant Bike and I’m hoping to add a 30 minute bike ride each day (working upto an hour) to go along with my 3.1 mil. I have an account with Ifit for my Recumbant, Treadmill & Strider but not exactly sure how to use it, any suggestions????

@skippygirlsmom I think that was me. I got mine in the mail, but haven't opened it yet. I was going to wait until I got closer to race time. Do you know when you are going to run your race? Which one did you sign up for?
@jntollaware I had Ifit for my treadmill, but never used it because my internet is so slow and spotty. So, I'm no help. Sorry.0 -

OH COME ON GARMIN! I just ran 14 miles with a heat index of 114F and Garmin says I am DE-TRAINING.6

My coach tells me to ignore this function. He says Garmin should stick to what they know as they’re excellent at it. Interpreting performance data, however, is not something they know. I often get retraining or maintaining from Garmin but my results on Training Peaks, the app my coach uses, shows my fitness steadily progressing.5 -

That is what mine does too. A higher HR at lower pace is classed as detraining even if it is due to heat instead of poor physical condition.0 -

I guess that makes sense. They already pull the weather report for each run. They should use that to adjust their formulas.1 -
Missed a couple of days so I’m very far behind. Have read to catch up but too much info to retain in one go! Sending out love, hearty welcome, sympathy and congratulations as needed to all you awesome people.
I’ve lost a bit of consistency in my training due to some work stuff so need to pick that up. The good news is with fewer runs I’ve been able to stretch myself more on distance. So I think I’m still on track for my monthly goal...
