@janejellyroll I am sorry to hear about your uncle. You'd (I'd) think, that loss would be easier to accept; we are all going to leave this place, we are all going to lose each other. Yet, it stings and rips the soul deeply no matter the intellectual acceptance. Embrace the loss, I think that's all we can do.
You write beautifully, thank you. Thanks everyone.3 -

@quilteryoyo I'm glad you found a good place for your cousin, that sounds like such a relief for everyone.
@Avidkeo sorry about the injury. You can absolutely maintain fitness at a pretty good level, and if you are able to bike, swim, and do HIIT, I think you'll be in good shape.
@janejellyroll I'm so sorry for your loss. It hurts no matter how much warning you have. My heart goes out to you.J No matter how hard a run is I am almost always glad I ran.

I had a very hot speedwork session today myself. Run groups are back in session at least on a limited basis twice on Tuesdays and twice on Wednesdays. My normal group would be the Wednesday night one, but I have a conflict tonight so I went to the noon session today. Which I didn't want to do because of the heat and inconvenience of middle of the day, but I talked myself into it. It was "only" 82 degrees or so and 50% humidity, so I thought at least it's not worse. But that was plenty.
The workout was an inverted ladder with 4-3-2-1-1-2-3-4 minute intervals, with 90 seconds recovery for the first half and 60 seconds for the second half. We ran on the track and there were only two of us doing the workout (plus one person just running a base run who came to group for company). Given the heat, and that I felt sore from yesterday's workout it was not my best showing. And I wanted to quit the whole time. But it got done. We also did 10 minutes warmup, 4 sprints, and 10 minutes cooldown, so this was a long workout. We had a wonderful angel bring us popsicles at the end and boy was that appreciated.

@janejellyroll So sorry for your loss. I agree with @kgirlhart , you're never ready to lose someone you love, even if you are expecting it.
@kgirlhart
Excellent run in the humidity. I agree with you - am always glad I ran, even if it was a horrible run.
@katharmonic That sounds like a tough workout. Way to hang in there and get it done. The popsicles sound wonderful!

I played singles tennis again this morning. When I got home, I really had a hankering to run. The last time I ran was last Wednesday! Since I had already been exercising for two hours and it was hot, I decided to do a quick 2 miles on the treadmill. I was pleased with my pace - 11:06. Not the fastest, but faster than I have been going when I run the hills on my driveway. It really felt good to go for a run.
I'm not sure I know the person that wrote the above paragraph, because she I would have never said that a year ago.

@janejellyroll So sorry for your loss. I lost my uncle a couple months ago suddenly and he was also only 10 years older than me. It’s tough no matter what. Big hugs to you.
@quilteryoyo must be relief to have him settled. You are a runner! Good job on tennis and running!
@Avidkeo yes I believe you will maintain fitness. I just ordered a spin bike and it is supposed to arrive tomorrow. I’m actually looking forward to the cross training and no heat!
@kgirlhart Your runs sound like mine, only with slightly hotter temps. It’s still tough, and my pace is much slower as well, not to mention I’m taking more breaks - which is ok I guess. I ran on the treadmill today just because it was the hottest day so far with 75% humidity and 72% dew point in the morning. Not fun.
But yes always glad I ran no matter where and how bad it was.
@katharmonic your workouts always sound tough to me, you rock.
6.25 hot sweaty slow miles yesterday
5K and strength training today

And, the ball just dropped, we are on our way back into lockdown. Light so far... but the trendline is clear. Yay.7

Guys, I just went online to change my registration from a full marathon to the half, and they want to change me for the change, and no refund to the difference.
Is this normal? Wellington let me change for free and will refund the difference.
I'm not expecting a refund of the difference, but an additional charge kinda stinks?1 -

Yeah, unfortunately that is common. In my experience, past a certain date they will charge for changing races.0 -
@janejellyroll Sorry for your loss. It never gets easier, even though we know it will happen for everyone.
@Avidkeo I’ve never changed a race myself, but I have seen where they would not provide a refund for changing. It stinks!1 -
Yesterday was supposed to be a rest day, but I couldn’t sit still, so I did just half an hour on the stationary bike for something.1

Yes, that is normal for every race I have had to try a change in.
The reason is often in part because the price of the race itself has gone up since you registered. That and it is an administrative mess if too many people do it, so the charge discourages people from being willy-nilly about it.1 -
4 miles this morning. Another hot one (81F), but humidity better (66%), and dew point only 70F.

Cloudy, low 70s F, and humid today. If the sun had been out I think it would have been very difficult. Back hurt last night from golf, but it popped during the night and was fine this morning. The first k today was the most enjoyable run I've had in a long time. Niggles started catching up later, but it was still nice to run virtually pain free. I had almost forgotten what that felt like.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2020 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs
Run at least 4 5k races
Get a 5k PR
Average at least 138k per month, to meet my Run the Year pledge of 1,020 miles
Stretch goal: If I can average 169k per month, I can run 2020k in 2020
Run the Year Team: Pavement Pounders
2020 races:
9-19 Race for the Parks 5k, Hudson, OH
10-11 Haunted Hustle 5k, Aurora, OH4 -
0716-5k, total-40.2k goal-80k
It was hot and sunny. Yep, pretty bad.
@janejellyroll Feeling for you. I don't think we are ever really ready to let go.
@katharmonic That sounds brutal! Kudos for finishing the workout.4 -
@Tramboman Glad you are virtually pain free!
You all know I am NOT a morning person. But, I have been getting up earlier a few days lately to play tennis. Yesterday morning, when I took the dog out at 6 am, it was so nice, almost chilly feeling at 60°F. So, that motivated me to get up early this morning to run. Imagine my disappointment when I looked at the thermometer at 6 and it was 74°F! Really! Why did I even bother?
I ate a banana and had a couple cups of coffee and got out of the house at 7:10. Garmin said it was 73°F with 83% humidity - I think it was warmer than that. I didn't look at my back porch thermometer before I went out. Anyway, it was miserable. I am not following my plan this week - just getting out the run when I can. I had planned to run 4 miles. I just couldn't do it. I felt like I was overheating, even though I was running slower than the box turtle I moved off the driveway on my first lap. So, changed the plan to run 45 minutes and stop. I wound up running 3.25 miles and walking one. I'm glad it's done. Just wish it had been cooler to reward me for getting up early. According to the app on my laptop, when I finished it was 80°F, 71% humidity, feels like 84°F.
We're going to move my cousin into the assisted living this afternoon.

Sigh I get that. I'd happily forgo the difference, it's the extra charge that stings.
Adds insult to injury 😉
Exercise bike arrives today, yay.4
