I'm in for 26.2 miles from 9-7 to 9-14.
I had no idea @PastorVincent was an introvert. He's the most extroverted introvert I've ever known.3 -
I did watch @PastorVincent s funeral. All of the stories were really sweet. One line that stuck with me was that his sermons were always about loving God and loving people, and if we would do that, it would make Vincent happy. So, I'm thinking in addition to a Boston Marathon running during the week of Sept 7 - 14, that maybe we all do a random act of kindness in his name too - and share with us what it was, if you want.8

I thought the same thing.3 -
Great words to live by from @PastorVincent. Thought of him a lot during my 6 mile run this morning.
First real time running on the treadmill. Wasn't completely terrible, but it wasn't much better than running outside. We keep the house at 78°F in the summer, and with the ceiling fan it was basically just as hot as running outside at 5am. But it will be good when (if) winter comes. Then the house will be about 68-70°F, and no 20mph wind 😁

Race report - sort of: I completed a virtual 5k this morning. I wasn't looking forward to it for many reasons - the forecast was for rain and thunderstorms all morning, I was exhausted from the week, and I just don't like virtual races. I also haven't run a 5k or any race since January or even pushed my pace for a sustained amount of time for quite a long time. And I generally don't like 5ks in the best of times. I knew if I ran with my usual group of friends doing the Saturday long run that I would not push myself and I also really wanted to be able to sleep in. So I turned down the offers to meet up and spent some leisurely time having coffee and making eggs before taking Stella out for a walk as a warm up. Then I realized I was actually pushing it for time because I had to be at strength training by 10:30. So I drove to the canal which is close to the gym and flat to do my "race". I still wasn't sure what I had in me or if I was even going to try to race it, but I took a deep breath and decided to see how it felt.
The first mile seemed long and I was purposely not looking at my watch because I didn't want to give up or get stressed out by the numbers. I was wearing my tank that says "I AM TRAINING FOR A SPARTAN RACE" in big military style font and clearly working hard so I got a few encouraging waves and a "you've got this", which was lovely. This section of the canal between road crossings is almost exactly 1.5 miles, so I approached the turn-around and circled the parking lot there to add a bit so I wouldn't be short at the end and then headed back. I had looked at my watch now a couple of times so I knew my pace was under a 10 minute mile. I really felt unsure I could sustain it. I saw a friend of mine who was walking on the canal and she called my name and I shouted hi and that I was running a 5k can't stop! That kind of propelled me because I couldn't let her see me slack off after that. I kept repeating to myself "this is temporary" just 3 songs left, less than 10 minutes left, you can stop in 5 minutes, etc. Finally my watch beeped that I passed 3 miles and I just had to hang on for the .1. I was almost to the end of the trail so I had adequately looped so I could just run it out and be done. I stopped my watch right at 3.10 miles and 29:09 seconds and nearly collapsed with relief.
Oddly enough this was the exact time that I had for the last 5k I did on January 12! I feel really good about that, although the January race was hilly and in winter, it was pretty humid today which made it hard. I hustled over to strength training and somehow got through that. I was definitely warmed up! Now I am going to take a nice nap and then I have work to catch up on.
Overall, very pleased with how it went. I dedicate this 5k to PastorVincent, who would have told me I could do it, and would have been among the first to congratulate, as he always was for everyone. I can't believe we won't be hearing a race report from him again either, as he always had amazing efforts and impressive speed. Run on, Vincent!13 -

Ran 5k and took a long walk in celebration of @PastorVincent today.
Memphis had the dregs of Laura come through yesterday, crazy winds and a lot of rain. Today it was just overcast and very humid, but surprisingly hot. I thought of @PastorVincent introducing me to the notion of dewpoint and its effect on runners. Our dewpoint today was 80, which I think the chart says is supposed to have a great impact on running pace. But my pace was actually much better than it has been for a while now. I’m at that point in my recovery where I have to make sure I don’t do anything stupid and mess everything up, since I feel so much better than I have that it’s easy to forget I’m still not really healed. Did two miles at sub 10 minute mile pace. Husband was getting wheezy - the air smelled very unfamiliar, probably stuff dragged up from the South by Laura - so we took a walk break, and even with a break 3rd mile under 11 minutes. Just a good feeling run for me.
Afterwards we walked through Farm park, fed the chickens, walked down to the railroad museum, and over to the horseshow grounds. I made an effort to look for things of beauty, things to rejoice in and be thankful for and share with the group. We noticed an ancient rusted out shovel leaning against a tree. Some cool bark. A really good tree. And a little downy gray-and-rust colored feather fell from the sky and settled in the palm of my husband’s hand.11 -
I’ll do the challenge for @PastorVincent . Yesterday I dedicated my run to him.
Tired to watch some of the funeral today but had to go get my son.
It’s still quite hard to believe.3 -
Nice race report @katharmonic ! You did fantastic! Love that telling your friend you were running a race gave you extra incentive to not slow down. I often have the same thoughts toward the end of a run/race. @PastorVincent would have been proud.
@rheddmobile You did great! Lovely pictures! Thanks for sharing.

I couldn't get the earlier link to work and saw your new link too late so I didn't get to watch. Great idea to add the random act of kindness in @PastorVincent's honor to the marathon week!
@katharmonic - great virtual 5k run! All your hard training is paying off!
Love everyone's pictures from the past few days.
I was supposed to do a virtual HM this morning but with the forecasted rain and wind we decided to wait until tomorrow morning. I went out and did a slow 4 miles today in between morning showers.6 -
5 miles this morning. I am up for trying the 26.2 during Boston week for @PastorVincent.2

I'm sad I was asleep when his funeral was happening, glad some of you got to see it.
For an introvert, he was definitely open with us. We knew so much about him and his struggles. His openness and willingniss to talk about what he was going through really helped me so much.
I am going to miss him so much.
So update on me. Its been 6 weeks since I last ran. Calf is definitely healing, incredibly slowly. I think it will be another 4 weeks before I'm back to it. I see the physio tomorrow, and suspect that I'll be starting strength training. Generally my calf is fine, just get the occasional niggle or pain. I went for a walk today, and got to 4.7k before I was feeling it. That's progress, a week ago I only got to 3k.9 -
Y’all, you can still watch the funeral by following the link.1

Sunny and low 60s F this morning. Only bird sounds I heard were blue jays and red tail hawks. Starting to plan my "Virtual Boston with Vincent." I'm pretty sure that I can do it in under 6 hours of actual running, even though it will be spread across 6 days. Need the weather to cooperate, though.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2020 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs
Run at least 4 5k races
Get a 5k PR
Average at least 138k per month, to meet my Run the Year pledge of 1,020 miles
Stretch goal: If I can average 169k per month, I can run 2020k in 2020

Online forums and social media make it much easier for introverts to interact. In person drains me so much more than online.
Introverts need to recharge alone usually. Extroverts get energy from being around others.5 -
Hi all, did my long run this morning. Glorious running weather; some sunshine but fresh and breezy too. Even managed to sprint the finish and it felt so good. Recent events have reminded me to be grateful for everything I have and all that I can do. Feel like I followed that today. Planning to head out again for a walk/run with the kids for couch to 5k.
Have a good Sunday everyone x

Last run for Aug. today was 8.0 miles. I haven't posted most of my runs and it hasn't been a great month. This last run was especially bad because I had an old problem (runner's diarrhea). At one point, I turned back towards home and was able to keep everything together until getting the 8 miles done as planned... but did loops and such close to home so I could make it back in a few min. And it slowed me down of course.
At one point - keeping in mind I'm on streets I don't normally run - I went past a house with a fence, but no gate. Instead, there was a big opening so hey could drive cars in and out of the driveway. And on the fence was a "Beware of Dog" sign. They had a pit bull with a big opening (big enough to drive a car through) in the fence and not tied up. So when it came out into the street trying to attack me, I almost had to stop it. It's the first time I've drawn my pistol while running. I stopped and it stopped as well, but only 6 feet away as it stood there barking. Way too close. I shouted at it as it stood there barking, and as I slowly moved further away, it finally retreated. If it had taken even a single additional step towards me, I would have stopped it. People need to keep their dogs restrained. Posting a sign does nothing to help when you let the dog run freely into the street.
