If I do the bare minimum for my virtual race, I need 90 miles. I would love to join the "cool kids" and be in the 100 mile club. But I also know that we are going on an Anniversary trip this month and I might not have the opportunity to run while we're away. I've been "banking miles" beforehand to try and not fall too far behind. So...
My goal for September is 90 - 100 miles. Whew!

Thanks for setting us up@shanaber
Since I did close to 90 miles last month, I should probably go for 100 miles this month. The weather could HOPEFULLY be better than August, and almost 90 didn't feel too overwhelming.7 -

Congratulations!1 -
Only just found this group although I’ve been doing a virtual running challenge each month during the lockdown. I’m aiming for 60km for September. I managed just over 60km during August but I’ve more family commitments this month so I think 60km is a fair challenge for me. Looking forward to following everyone’s progress.9

Welcome @_runnerbean_ !
@scott6255 I sure hope it is better. I'm not sure how much more of these 100+ days I can take.4 -
So September is off to a disheartening start. I’m building up to a half on the 20th, aiming for a killer new PB, and my coach has been pushing me hard in the last couple of weeks.
Well, today I hit the wall. I had 60 minutes aerobic scheduled. This time last week, that was a comfortable 5:37 pace and my heart rate averaging 1:41. Today, I only lasted 7.5km - my pace was 6:27 and my heart averaged 161bpm!
It was my worst run in years and years. Everything hurt. Legs simply wouldn’t go. Felt awful the whole way so cut things short. I suspect I’ve found my maximum.
Will be interesting to see what my coach says.13 -
Gosh @ContraryMaryMary I hope it’s just an off day! You feel okay otherwise?
I’m still reluctant to set a mileage goal since my knee still hurts when I do too much, so my goal is to work my way back to doing a 10k run without pain. Also, intend to do 26.2 during Boston Marathon week for @PastorVincent.
So, I’ve never set up a challenge on challenge hound but it looks fairly simple - my thought was that a challenge for @PastorVincent could be set up as a team relay, with no set number of people per team, 26.2 miles to be run at any time during that week, runs, hikes, walks and treadmill counting towards the total. You wouldn’t have to use challengehound to participate but anyone who wanted could jump in either as a solo or join a team, so people doing less mileage could participate. And I really liked the idea of encouraging everyone to do an act of kindness in memory of @PastorVincent as well. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? If it sounds good I will see about setting it up.6 -
Hello! I'm back 😊
We welcomed our little future runner into the world on August 29th ♡ 9 lbs, 4 oz. I was NOT expecting him to be that big.
Labored for 29 hours total and pushed for the last 4 of those.
Meet Finnegan ♡
I am HOPING to be back to running by the end of September, but we will see. I have to get back to walking first. I'm not going to set a number goal, but rather just to work towards those two things and to give myself grace with them.

@brittanystebbins95 He is beautiful! Congratulations! I am so happy for you and your husband.
@rheddmobile I think that sounds like a great idea.
@ContraryMaryMary I hope it was just an off day and you feel better soon.2 -
He’s gorgeous @brittanystebbins95. Congrats.
And good luck with the return to running - I’ve been there and it’s totally doable but yes, listen to your body, it’s not the same one you had previously. But you were so fit prior and so motivated, I’m sure you’ll be great.2 -
@brittanystebbins95 congratulations!!!! He's so beautiful - look at that little peanut! You worked so hard. I hope you are recovering well and having a wonderful time with your sweet little one.
I'm sorry about your bad run @ContraryMaryMary! I would think off day rather than hitting any kind of real limit though. Hope your coach has some good insight, and the rest does you some good..
Welcome @_runnerbean_ and @Oberon21! Glad to have you join us!
Glad to hear that your mileage is working back up there successfully and pain free @Scott6255! Wishing you much cooler weather for September.
Congrats on 32 years @WandaVaughn. Where will you be going or your anniversary trip? Good luck on your miles for the month!

@katharmonic We're going to Gatlinburg, TN! Lots of pretty scenery and lots of quality time with the hubby!
Not sure if I want to run near the cabin. Owner says a mama and bear cubs have been spotted around lately! I'm not fast enough to outrun that kind of wildlife! 😁3 -
@brittanystebbins95 He's beautiful! Welcome to the world! Good luck on your recovery and take it slow and easy (not that I've ever been there or done that), looking forward to seeing you back running soon.
@ContraryMaryMary Well like they say, one bad run does not a wall make. I suspect it was just one of those days.rheddmobile wrote: »So, I’ve never set up a challenge on challenge hound but it looks fairly simple - my thought was that a challenge for @PastorVincent could be set up as a team relay, with no set number of people per team, 26.2 miles to be run at any time during that week, runs, hikes, walks and treadmill counting towards the total. All of this!
I would really like to be part of a team or something for the challenge, I was vaguely considering trying to total a marathon distance between running and cycling over the week because running alone would be a little bit too much for my legs to take. Have never heard of challengehound, will investigate that during a break today!
Totally fell off the wagon with eating since I read the news. Sadness about @PastorVincent combined with stress over the covid situation here and schools reopening and an anxious, terrified teenager made me stuff my face with junk. To the point that in a week I seem to have regained 1.5kg of the 2.5kg of lockdown weight it had taken me over a month to get rid of. Dammit. Must pull myself together.7 -

@eleanorhawkins it's most likely water weight. As soon as you go back to deficit, it will fall off. I myself gained 2kg of weight last week, and lost it over the last 2 days. So many trips to the toilet! Haha.
Hang in there. It's so hard.

@Avidkeo thanks. It is hard. I'm battling what appears to be pretty early perimenopause on top of everything else, so yeah, it is REALLY hard. Sorry guys, TMI? Surely not, we're runners, right?
I pulled my big girl knickers on, went down to the garage, pulled my bike out, pumped up the tyres and headed for the river trail. 5 miles upriver I stopped under the motorway bridge and I screamed and ranted and cried my heart out for a few minutes. Then I drank my water, turned round and came home. On the way up I saw nothing and felt nothing but my quads burning. On the way down I saw flowers, birds, rabbits, horses, people walking dogs, running, cycling.
When I got home there was an email from a training app I use saying I'd won the official T-shirt on the draw linked to a virtual 5k race they did some time recently. Maybe I've managed to turn the week around.
Not sure my legs are going to want to run tomorrow though!

@brittanystebbins95 - yay! Big congrats and welcome to little Finnegan. He’s gorgeous.
I am up for however you all want to do the @PastorVincent marathon challenge. Being part of a team would be cool. I only ever run alone and have never had a buddy for races or anything so it would be a good change.
I’m in for 100 miles this month. Bit of a jump, but I managed it in August, and once I’m back to work from tomorrow I’ll be doing extra short runs from my kids’ school to work, so adding maybe 5 or 6 miles to my usual weekly tally.
I did a practice today (my last day of the summer holidays) of the commute run after I dropped off my little one. That’s after a 10k sunrise run this morning before the kids got up!! 26k steps and 12 miles walking and running done by about 10:30am. And supposed to do next couch to 5k run with the kids today - 3 runs in one day?!. 😬
September goal: 100m
September total: 7.6m
1/9: 7.6m5 -
Date :::: Miles :::: Cumulative

Early morning 5k to start the month. Met up with a friend I haven't seen for a month because she went out of town and then had to quarantine for two weeks. We had a ton to catch up on so the run went quickly. It's going to be a busy day so I'm glad to have the run done.
I will join in whatever gets planned for Pastor Vincent. I don't have the time to do much but I can do 26.2 over a week.
Impressive start to the day @Faebert! Way to take advantage of your commute running time. Good luck with the 3rd run of the day - so ambitious!

@brittanystebbins95 Congratulations! He is good looking baby! You and your husband are blessed!
@ContraryMaryMary we all have an off day (some of us have more than others). But those are normal. Try to put it out of your head and focus on the next run.
@eleanorhawkins sounds like your ride out was cathartic and did you a lot of good and you found a way to process your grief. It will get better, slowly.
5 miles this morning. Oh you gotta love running in Texas in late summer 84F, feels like 92F at 5:30am. I know, it will just make Fall running much more enjoyable.
