Yay for no blockages @quilteryoyo!!1

First time posting here and first time doing the challenge. I need more community support as the darkness descends over the PNW.
My goal 40 miles this month. 13 miles to date. Better get going.8 -
On holiday in Taupo at the moment. It’s been raining the whole time 🙄. Fortunately, we’re in a ‘resort’ with a massive thermally heated pool, which is lovely. The girls and I have been spending at least three hours a day soaking and swimming.
Got out for a run today. Headed from the resort to a nearby park then along the river to the Huka Falls. According to our jet boat driver yesterday, pre-Covid, the falls were the most visited tourist spot in New Zealand - something like a million visitors a year. Today, I met no one in the paths, and at the viewing platform over the falls there were two people. I guess I’ll call that a benefit of Covid!
Anyway, a few picks from my run in the spoiler.11 -

Welcome! The darkness is descending here in Poland as well I can definitely feel the difference.
So I got the Vitamin D back out and need to find my lamp. Running in the morning helps me, too.4 -

This is the ONE good thing about covid. We actually get to go and enjoy our natural attractions without all those annoying American tourists (😜)
Just teasing guys! It is true though that we avoid a lot of places due to crowds, and there just aren't the crowds atm
It is nice. And Huka falls is stunning!3 -
I’m so glad it went well yesterday, @quilteryoyo!
Two mile run last night. I wasn’t able to get started until after 7pm, so it was starting to get dark.
Tonight is supposed to be Pump, but I will try to get in a couple of treadmill miles after.4 -

70 (71.1) of 115 miles
Miss Ann is a sweet elderly lady that lives on my running route, Skip and I walked a bit with her to make sure she got home okay from her walk in the dark.
Last run with my girl today she goes back to school this morning, it’s been nice, and expensive, to have her home. Ha ha
@WandaVaughn yes I signed up for it. You can do it, are you doing more than enough miles. Congratulations on the first place! Lake Guntersville is so pretty to run near.
@quilteryoyo great news on the no blockage!! Read the Caring Bridge post, I be the ice cream was good.
@shanaber I’ve had to basically not give a care about my time to get my mileage back up, if it’s 15 min miles so be it. Since May I have gone from 10 mile weeks to almost consistently at 30+ miles, also my time has dropped to around 13 – 13:30 min miles, I don’t think you can do both speed and mileage at the same time. Glad your run was great!
Welcome @Sericalynn

@polskagirl01 are you just going to leave us hanging? Or did I miss the answer?
7 miles this morning. Perfect running weather (57F, 5mph wind). Decided halfway through to make it a tempo run since it was so beautiful. I guess I figured out how to get over my Monday blahs....run on a Tuesday instead 😁
Noticed I already have 400 miles on my 'new' shoes. I really want to go into Fleet Feet for a proper fitting, but I found some of my current Ghost 12s on sale almost 50% off, so I will go through a 2nd pair of these before spending real money on a different pair.

@katharmonic Sorry for the issues with the contact lenses. I hope today goes better. I've considered them before, but don't think I could put them in and out. I really hate for "things" to be near my eyes, so think that would be difficult for me.
Welcome @8ericalynn ! You'll love this group.
@ContraryMaryMary Wow! That's a beautiful place for a run. That waterfall is beautiful! Glad you got to enjoy it in relative solitude instead of with thousands/hundreds of others.
@skippygirlsmom How sweet to walk with Ms Ann to make sure she made it home okay. I'm sure she enjoyed the company.
Still feeling great this morning, after sleeping 11 hours! I guess anesthesia will do that. Supposed to rest "on the couch or bed" today. I plan to do some on-line training needed for my daycare job. I'm hoping sitting at my desk, being on the computer is good enough.5 -
@polskagirl01 are you just going to leave us hanging? Or did I miss the answer?
Sugar beets! They are being harvested. In a neighboring field, a group of about 7 men were also harvesting cabbages by hand. One thing I like about running here is the variety of things I see growing in the fields.

I got 6 miles in this morning. It was a lovely 45°F. We've been having crazy weather here. So far it's been pretty nice in the mornings and nice some afternoons, but also still hot. It was around 65° for my run Sunday morning and got to over 100° that afternoon. Yesterday was just in the low 80's, but I think it is supposed to hit 86° today. It looks like it will be around 60°-65° tomorrow and Thursday in the morning. I really love running in this weather. Today I did wear my sleeves and gloves starting out. But I ended up taking the gloves off and pushing the sleeves down to my wrists. Then my hands got a little cold so instead of putting the gloves back on I just put the sleeves on my hands (they have the thumb holes) and that worked pretty good. I don't think I'll need the sleeves and gloves tomorrow, but it was pretty chilly starting out today. It was a beautiful morning too. It was really dark and there were lots of stars and a pretty little crescent moon. I've been so stressed out the last few days getting ready to start my new job (and leave my job of 20 years). Running is about the only thing keeping me sane.
@quilteryoyo I am so glad the heart cath went well and you are feeling good!
@katharmonic Good luck with the contacts. I've been wearing them since I was about 17 and it took a little getting used to, but I like it more than dealing with glasses.
@scott6255 I always do my long run on Sunday and take Monday as a rest day. No Monday blahs and by Tuesday I am ready to get back out there.
2020 races:
11/7/20: Run for 57th AHC Half Marathon3 -
@quilteryoyo So glad your cath went well. Hurray!
This morning I had to bribe myself out of bed. LOL! I told myself the following:
1. The weather is cooler and the humidity is lower. This is good.
2. You get to start audiobook #3 of the trilogy you've been enjoying. This is good.
3. You get to wear your new Wonder Woman bandana this morning. This is good.
I got up and ran my 5.41 miles.
October miles: 46.9 (just 53.1 to go)
Space Race miles 235.73 (just 12.77 to go!)8 -
10/1 – 5.23 miles
10/3 – 21.06 miles
10/5 – 6.08 miles
10/7 – 5.18 miles
10/8 – 5.11 miles
10/10 – 15.06 miles
10/13 – 8.33 miles
Goal – 125 miles
It was 64F and the humidity was 95% at 5:00 am this morning. We’ve been enjoying mornings in the upper 40s and 50s for a couple of weeks now with little humidity so this morning was a sweatfest!
Great news @quilteryoyo!
@skippygirlsmom – One of my running friends had her son and his gf home from college this weekend also and she was talking about how expensive it was also. Apparently, it involved a lot of eating out. I just love the fact that these kids want to come home and spend time with their moms on their breaks!
@ContraryMaryMary – love the photos! Beautiful!
@katharmonic – Hope you get the contact lenses figured out soon. Please make sure the one that was in your left eye isn’t stuck in there someplace!
Welcome @8ericalynn!
@kgirlhart – I saw that beautiful smiling moon this morning too!

We try to avoid the crowds at US tourist spots too. So we get it.
3 miles today. It was 66 this morning and it felt cool. I was like oh is it time to switch to t-shirts and capris? Then after about a mile I was sweating and going nope. Still warm here. LOL
48 ish miles so far.3 -
@quilteryoyo So happy to hear that your cath went well and you are recovering. One step closer!
@ContraryMaryMary Beautiful!
@katharmonic I wore glasses as a kid and then contacts for about 20 years. Until I got Lasik. That has been amazing. It's unreal to me still that people can just SEE when they wake up!!
Welcome @8ericalynn!
4 -
@katharmonic - I wore contacts for years. Take it slowly and your eyes will get used to them and you will become a pro at putting them in and taking them out! Make sure your hands are really clean though and no contact with spices or hot sauces/peppers. I cut a bunch of jalapeño peppers once and despite washing and putting lemon juice on my hands I still managed to end up with the spicy (capsaicin?) residue on my lens!polskagirl01 wrote: »@polskagirl01 are you just going to leave us hanging? No run for me today. We had an intense agility class last night with lots of direction changes and turns. My glute was unhappy after class and is still complaining this morning even after foam rolling and stretches last night. I am hoping to get in a HIIT class later today along with more foam rolling.

Ahh, that makes sense, since I have never eaten let alone seen a sugar beet6 -
25.7/70 miles
10/2: 3.1 miles
10/3: 6.2 miles
10/5: 5.2 miles
10/7: 3 miles
10/8: 4.7 miles
10/13: 3.5 miles
Well, I never made it out to run during my long weekend away. Just didn't really want to go run. I was on vacation and really enjoying my leisurely mornings. My run this morning felt really great after having a few days off. Cool weather and fresh legs!
I did go hike a couple of miles on Sunday and Monday morning with the family at a nearby park. We all really like hiking but we rarely do it. My husband has now been tasked with finding state parks and whatnot within a few hours of our house for us to visit on weekends and do some hiking. He prefers mountain hiking, but that's not happening here. We barely have hills. But there are forests and really pretty areas that would be a great day trip. Also, one of my bucket list trips is to hike Mont Blanc. And I'd like to do it with my daughter before she leaves home and scheduling gets even tougher. So, hopefully he will take this on and we can start hiking some more.7 -
Oooeeee you miss a week, you miss a lot. Been a crazy week for me, but I'm back!
@katharmonic yay! That's so fun to see! I am doing the current virtual one. Marvel themed. I"m behind lol.
Thank you to all who liked and metnioned me. It's a lot to go back thru and see it all. I promise to keep up on it now tho.
I think I'm only 4? miles in. I have to go back and see my original post... oye lol.5 -

Red beets are also really popular here, and of course there are lots Polish dishes that include them. Which brings me back to running, because apparently beet juice has been shown to have a lot of benefits for athletes. Just don't put it in a hydration pack bladder... I did once and it leaked.
@Scott6255 you might've had them in sugar form and didn't know it. It's very similar to cane sugar.2 -
Yikes! Recovered from sickness but now getting hammered at work. Can barely pause for breath, managed a run yesterday but not today as working from 5am. I stopped to order a treadmill online though. Weather here has been terrible and I don’t want to risk injuries in wet and dark. Hopefully it will be here by the end of the month.
Will try and catch up but just wanted to say good news @quilteryoyo - have been thinking of you x
October total: 17m
October goal: 80m
5/10: 6.2m
7/10: 6.2m
12/10: 4.6m
Jan - Sep: 625.4 miles7 -
@polskagirl01 I put raw beets in my smoothies all the time and never, ever wear white the days I drink them. 😊
@Branawesomer you’ll get it – just keep going out and coming back for more. 😊
@martaindale I love trail running. But hiking is nice too.
@shanaber I hope your butt feels better!
@kgirlhart ewwwwwww I had 45F here too and HATED it. I am not used to breathing in the cold air and my lungs were on FIRE. I did get used to it, but sheesh. It must be a dream to not have asthma! I think we were running under the same moon – so pretty, lots of stars. So peaceful.
@Scott6255 coach said I need to quit looking at other models of shoes and stick to what I know works. Asics and Mizunos for road and Nike for trail. But Adidas has these super fun black and gold trail shoes and I want em bad! But the thing is. Holidays. I’ll wait. ☹ Also I probably should listen to the coach and stick to what I know works. I’m with you though – I already have so many miles on “new” shoes… *Sigh* I do it to myself, I know.
@Avidkeo I’ve been wondering if maybe switching models for different terrains has been the cause of my IT band flares… What youtube videos did you end up watching?
@Tramboman rotfl taters, hahahahahaha I haven’t heard the word “taters,” in ages!
@Hamsterwheel CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!! First is first, no matter how many participated! Podium finish! Woo hoo!
@Quilteryoyo you’re already back! Woo hoo! You’re okay?!?!?!?! Praise God!
@katharmonic I have contacts and never ever wear them because it seems like extra work, which I know is silly. I have prescription glasses and prescripton sunglasses for running. Both seem to work out fine. Contacts are great – I wish I would give myself time to get used to them! I still need to find a good, affordable brand I can order instead of pay $65/mo for them!
@8ericalynn welcome! You won’t find a better or more supportive group!
@ContraryMaryMary that sounds so nice! I’m with @skippygirlsmom! I Want to come there!
I woke up really freaking early today. Today is day 1 of the coach’s torture. He sent me the plans for lifting and running and I was like “Oh, this looks like a cakewalk,” but let me tell you what is not a cakewalk. Waking up and running at 4am. Have I ever told you that I am not a morning person? Like not even a little. My kids know this too – they won’t speak to me til I’ve had coffee. But the thing is, if I am going to do this, I have to do it when nobody needs me. So 4am it is. That gives me time to run the seventy minutes, run home, foam roll, get everybody out the door, and then “all” I have left in the evening is lifting. And all the kids’ stuff of course – and the dog’s – but if I break up the lifting and running between morning and evening, then I will feel less rushed.
I had to use my inhaler so many times this morning that by the time I got to work I was still so shaky. I hope I can get used to the cold again. Well, duh, I know I can. I just hope it’s sooner than later.
I’m excited about this phase of life. Pushing so hard.
The teenager had a migraine again today, so I had to go pick her up and bring her home (she’s not sick in any other way and has a history of migraines) and I wanted a peanut butter and jelly sandwich so bad, but apparently my son gave our dog all the bread…. Why???? Why in the world would he do that?!?!?!
Anway, so that’s how my life is going.
Also! I sent the final spreadsheet over for the medals! Of course nothing is ever final so if you wanted one and didn’t email me, I’m sure we can make something happen. 😊

@Faebert you're gonna make it! I feel like I know exactly how you feel - getting slammed from all directions. Like swimming in the ocean and it gets crazy...
But remember -
You can be a fish in water. You're gonna make it out on the other side stronger.1 -
@Camaramandy648 I'm back from the heart cath. I'm sure the other surgery will not be so quick. Haven't gotten it scheduled yet.4
-
@Camaramandy648 try Bob and Brad on YouTube. They have a lot of really good videos on stretching all sorts of things. It was their cross fibre massage video that converted me years ago when I had my posterior tibial tendinitis.

Morning all.
Well woke early (5am) unintentionally, so went for a quick. 4.5k walk. Normal niggles in the calf. Had been tempted to go longer but decided that's not what I'm aiming for.
Then decided to walk the kids to school, another 2km added, and of course up a big hill. And annoying at the end, like the last 200m (yards) the calf started to niggle a little. Damn it. Not pain, just tightness. Enough to know its there. So I'm putting on compression today. No walking tomorrow - it's a bike day anyway. And will watch and see. Supposed to run Friday - 4 min on, 2 min off. But will either skip and have an extra rest day if I have any discomfort, or skip entirely if pain. Hopefully it's nothing and I'm just hyper aware. Must always remember, injuries are 2 steps forward, 1 step back.
I'm mostly annoyed that I may have over done it, when I'm being so so careful! And this time I was trying to do the right thing! But I'm prepared to rest another 2 weeks if needed. I am taking a slow cautious approach to coming back.
Oh in other news, I managed to find some old kayano 26s on sale for 200! Mens size 8 for me - the equivalent to womens 9.5 wide. Fingers crossed they work. Normally I have to pay 300!
Was tempted to see if you guys could get a pair in the sales, cause we don't get amazon prime or black Friday sales in NZ like you do. But then I doubt asics would be on sale enough to make it worth while.6
