May have to rename this thread to:
LESS alcohol - LESS politics
Venting is fine but please remember that there are three things that force people to stop posting on a thread striving for a common goal.
Religion ~ Money ~ Politics8 -
7 days AF/3 days A. It was Pellegrino all the way last night. Woke up fresh and energized and got a nice euphoria from my pre-dawn run. The less I drink, the faster I run. The faster I run, the more energy I have. The more energy I have, the happier I feel.
Apologies for the morning silliness. It's the coffee + runner's high combo +no drinks last night6 -
@Lilylady3k I can relate to you post. My DH buys 3-4 large packs of IPA beer when on sale. We always have tons in the closet and in the beer fridge. He usually drinks daily but only in the early evening. Still way past any maximum allowed limit and it will take it's toll the older he gets.
Drinking less is a very sensitive topic with drinking spouses, but last night I mentioned wouldn't it be a good idea to have a glass of ice water after 7:30pm instead of beer #4 or #5 because this would result in better sleep (I can't mention calories because for some reason that doesn't motivate him). He agreed.
Let's see what happens tonight. Baby steps.6 -
My husband and I joked corona light was our corona vaccination...15lbs later here i am.
I am committing to cutting out weekday drinking. One week down and happy its saturday!11 -
@globalhiker I found your morning silliness inspiring. Glad you have found your mojo! Keep it going so we can feed off it.5

Oh boy.....a heavy joke indeed.
No pun intended.
Welcome and great weekend to be alcohol free for you. Lots of support from this gang.4 -
I am Dawn and live in South East British Columbia. I am 60.
My goal remains the same as it has been for quite some time, 16-20 AF days per month.
Wednesday October 14 - AF. I worked out of town for my favourite company today (Foster Grant) and stopped on the way home for a wee trail walk. it was gorgeous with blue skies all day.
Thursday October 15 - AF. I had to do the 6 minute wait 3 times, but it worked. I had to get those 2AF in a row.
Friday October 16 - Drinks. Both of my tenants left to go home for the weekend. Yay. They are awesome guys, but I love having the house to myself. Rainy day, no opportunity to hit the trails, but all good.
Saturday October 17 - AF - Felt like having drinks, but refrained.
Rolling total: 12 AF days out of 17 days so far.6 -

Daughter & her husband joined us for the day and dinner. 3 glasses of wine.
Oct accountability: 6/17 days AF5 -
A little past half way through October.
2 full weeks to go.
How are YOU doing with your drinking goals?

8 days AF/3 days A. Saturday night was Pellegrino and movie night again.
My DH switched to water at 6:45pm, 15 min before the agreed 7pm drinking's up time limit. Even though he did drink beer during Saturday afternoon working in the garage, I will take this small improvement as a win for us.
We did do another behavior change that is helping me. After dinner, we agreed to physically move out of the kitchen to the living room. When we do that, all drinking and eating is over. Helps to be further away from the fridge too.

Last minute offer to help the food bank by picking corn. Nice to stretch and use muscles doing something useful.
And those are a few of our carrots-never has success before!5 -

Oh I just love the pictures being posted of your gardens and nature... how I would love to get away for a few days, away from work, computers, these walls... hopefully soon, we are trying to plan a little get-away to Cambria (California), a little beach town where you can take nice long easy walks and watch the Elephant Seals. Darn, I was going to try and post a link here of the live cam, but the live stream is showing just fog, you can't see the beach of the seals right now. I will post it anyways, maybe the fog will clear up soon: https://elephantseal.org/live-view/
The closest I will be getting to nature today is my little walk and then planning a trip to a farm stand to p/up some yummy veggies & fruit. I am hoping to get inspired to make some healthier dinners this week.
Happy Sunday!9 -
I posted this in another forum, thought it might fit in here too:
Reset... my goals for this week:
1. 10k steps each day
2. Stay under calorie goal
3. No "adult" beverages this week, even just a little indulgences, kills my willpower and then I mindlessly munch on junk food.
4. Check-in here daily.
5. Stay accountable, log all food/drinks
6. Get at least 7 hours sleep each night
7. 64 oz water
Started Sat, 10/17
1. Yes
2. Yes, barely, weekends are hard.
3. Yes, stuck with iced tea, sparkling water and just some plain ole water!
4. Yes
5. Yes
6. No... about 6 hours, stayed up watching movies last night, in bed by midnight, however my natural alarm woke me at 5am, tried to go back to sleep but it was useless, up by 6:30.
7. Yes
Time to get my walk in!
Crossing fingers doesn't work when trying to lose weight, only the work you put in produces good results! Happy Sunday Everyone!<37 -
I was a volunteer at USO for years. The director informed us to never ever talk about politics. You will see men and women go to war with each other, fight side by side and even die for each other. But mention politics and they're at each other's throats on the brink of a brawl. So politics aside...
Besides I am here for the right reasons: to drink less, and I've been here since September 2019. How did it turn into the miserable old and/or middle aged drunk skunk fat, whine and wine "poor me" unable to get it together and help myself *kitten* show storm? I watch but stay out of it and I'm embarrassed with what it's become. I'm not directing this at any one person but if the shoes fits, wear it.
That being said, we camped this weekend and I drank half of a can of wine and left the rest, as I was too busy chasing a two-year old to sit down and enjoy it. I might let myself have another drink day before month's end but unsure. My Marathon is less than 4 months away and I want to run it better and faster than last year, which equals extra dedication and discipline.
@MissMay I have nothing but respect and love for you and you're a great leader.7 -
