@quilteryoyo that sounds like a good plan. I hope you can sleep better now that you aren't worrying from one day to the next if it is going to happen.1

November Goal: 100 Miles
11/1: 11.02 miles
11/3: 4.35 miles
11/4: 4.35 miles
11/7: 13.51 miles
11/11: 4.51 miles
11/12: 5.27 miles
43.02/100 miles completed for November
1219.04/1000 miles for Run the Year Team Pavement
I ran 5.25 miles this morning. I took it pretty slow and easy, but was faster than yesterday. I felt better today too and enjoyed the run more. It was perfect running weather so that helped. I thought about running tomorrow since I took Tuesday off, but I think some extra rest this week will be good for me, so I am just going to do yoga in the morning. I am planning to run my leg of the Ekiden on Sunday. I see that the rest of my team has done their legs. Great job guys! I do promise I will get mine done.
2020 races:
11/7/20: Run for 57th AHC Half Marathon4 -
11/1 Ran 3.0 miles – Walked 1.0 mile - Treadmill
11/2 Ran 3.0 miles – Walked 1.0 mile – Treadmill
11/3 Rest day – 11,626 steps
11/4 Ran 3.0 miles – Walked 1.0 mile – Treadmill
11/5 Helped saw wood – 11,266 steps
11/6 Ran 3.0 miles – Walked 1.50 miles – Field and Driveway laps
11/7 Roan Mountain 10K – According to Garmin, I actually did 6.33 miles
11/8 Rest day – 11,555 steps
11/9 Ran 3.0 miles – Walked 1.5 miles – Field and Driveway laps
11/10 No Run Day - Worked in the leaves
11/11 Rest day – 9,273 steps
11/12 Ran 3.5 miles – Walked 1.0 mile – Driveway laps
Did my run after I got home from shopping this morning. It was 66°F and cloudy, so felt pretty good. I just did some easy driveway laps. I did decide that I want to slowly increase my mileage again, so ran a little bit further than I have been - doing the last half of a mile at a faster pace. The run felt good today. A WHOLE lot better than Monday's!

@quilteryoyo I'm glad you have a plan in place. I'm sure the uncertainty was very stressful.1
-
Hoping all the Ekiden runners get the technical issues sorted out! It sounds really cool.
I’ve done three runs since my last post. One was my husband’s birthday run, we did 5.2 miles on trails for his 52nd birthday. Had a lovely time exploring more of the Wolf River.
We found some edible puffballs and brought them home to cook but then I left them on the counter overnight and by the next morning they had started to turn from perfectly white to yellow, too old to eat. So I tossed them under my trees, hoping the spores will take hold. I won’t risk most wild mushrooms but puffballs in our area are perfectly safe as long as you cut them open to be sure it really is a puffball and not a baby mushroom of another type that hasn’t opened yet, make sure they are growing out of dirt and not out of a tree, and only eat them when they are pure white. Sautéed puffballs with a little butter and white wine are just the best thing - but we did birthday stuff late into the night and I forgot about them. And they do turn to spores super quickly!
On Wednesday we had our long run which is currently eight miles running plus at least two walking - got almost 11 miles total. This is our third time running eight, the first two were a serious chore. This one was a little better. Overall pace was more like my usual easy pace and less like my shambling tragic zombie pace and the day after my legs felt good. I figured out I need to fuel when I do eight miles - the metformin I take slows the liver from releasing stored glycogen so it’s easy for me to bonk hard. We haven’t been to a running store in forever so instead of fancy Clif Blox I fueled using Mandolorian jelly candy.
Thursday, got my usual little shakeout run behind the Kroger while my husband went in to get the shopping the pickup service didn’t get. Today they actually did a pretty good job, so I only got in a couple of miles and I had to hustle to get that! I like running while he shops, it changes it from geez I can’t believe this is taking so long to awww, are you done already? And weirdly, running a short easy run the day after a long run seems to make my legs recover faster!4 -
@quilteryoyo good plan. The second scan will also help them/you know if your case is actually urgent enough to have the surgery sooner or if you can wait without worry.
@rheddmobile great job using your Kroger waiting time to do something for you!1 -
Woke up with a headache and stomach ache. Didn't want to go far from home, so opted for a short 4 miles on the treadmill. Of course I felt better after the run. Yay sweat.
8 -
No run on yesterday, although I walked for 2 miles after my conference.
This morning’s plan asked for 4 x 600m at 7:43-8:13 pace/400m recovery. With warmup and cool down, I ended up with 4.1 miles.

@quilteryoyo - so glad you have a plan now and can move a head while enjoying the Thanksgiving holiday!
@Scott6255 - glad the run helped you to feel better. Hope it stays that way!
The ASICS app wouldn't sync my run from Monday with Strava or my Apple Watch activity so I reran the ASICS World Ekiden 2020 today using their app (actually used both, theirs on my phone for 3.5 and Strava on my watch for the entire distance). Not as fast today. My legs were really tired. Probably not a great idea to have strength training leg day the day before. I did manage to have some fast bits surprising myself. Ran to the Peloton 80's Fun Run with Matty M. I couldn't do all the fast segments but hope to run this workout again and hit all of them.
I did have to stop in the middle of my warm up as it looked like a car was on fire in our neighborhood (lots and lots of smoke coming out from under it). As I was getting ready to go to the door of the house it belonged to another neighbor came out and let me know it was coming from the curb drain the car was parked next to. They had already called the fire department so I just kept going. Apparently homeless people get into the drains and start fires for warmth and the smoke is pulled through like a chimney. As I was leaving the neighborhood the fire department showed up with 3 trucks and a battalion chief. I guess either it was a slow day or they were just not taking any chances. Thinking about it I have no idea how anyone would even get down into the drains (they go out to the ocean about 15 miles away). There must be other bigger openings somewhere.

@shanaber It looks like you had a nice day for your run. Glad the car wasn't on fire and hope whoever started the fire underground was okay too. Seems like that could be dangerous, carbon monoxide wise.1
-
@quilteryoyo that's a relief for sure to have a plan in place! Hope all goes well and you can relax the next couple of weeks without stress.
@brittanystebbins95 I'm so sorry for your loss. Wishing you the best in training for the triathlon in his memory. I like that the tri includes canoeing. And so sorry that you just found out about PastorVincent as well. Such a huge loss for all of us here, we definitely miss him.
@hamsterwheel6 glad your run was a good release for you - 10 miles on a treadmill, that's impresssive. Hope things improve for you.
@rheddmobile great running. I feel like you and your husband must get along so well with all the running together. That's great.
@shanaber good job on rerunning your Ekiden leg today. I can relate to running after leg day - mine was not great today either.

I did my 10k leg for MFP team #3 today! I had trouble sleeping last night then ended up sleeping in late when I finally did fall asleep, so no morning run. I didn't have much on the schedule at work so I hoped that I'd get a mid-afternoon run in and kind of start the weekend early. It sort of worked, but I ended up with two stressful meetings I hadn't planned on so the run was a little later and a lot more desperately needed stress relief than relaxing afternoon off. It was also chillier than I expected at only 50 degrees and with the wind off the lake. There were a few rain drops but any real rain held off until I was driving home.
It was an ok run. Certainly not fast and I felt like I might give up and only do 5k today and try the 10k tomorrow, but I turned on a podcast and just tried to keep my mind occupied. I used the Runkeeper app and my Garmin. At some point the Runkeeper app paused on me - I had it in my belt so I'm not sure how it happened. I realized I hadn't heard the voice in a while that was updating me and checked on it. Crap - lost about .7 miles. I didn't want it to be short so I tacked on the extra by looping around at the end and ended up with 7 miles on my Garmin and 6.28 on Runkeeper. It updated the Ekiden race leg just fine so our team now has 4 legs complete.
That's going to be my long run for the week. I have the in person 5k race on Sunday, so I'm taking it easy tomorrow.7 -
@shanaber They may have been worried the car would catch fire? And maybe it was Pennywise 🤣2

@RunsOnEspresso - Ha!! Maybe it was! (the car was moved before the fire department arrived)1
-
5km this morning. It was 7 degrees and raining, so spent some time digging around for gloves before could get going. It was pretty average as far as runs go, but enjoyed a faster last km without really trying.
Planning on getting the Ekiden run done later this week. The air quality in Beijing went to the dogs after noon so probably no more running for a few days. Have a business trip scheduled for Guangzhou (where it's still nearly 30 degrees during the day!) from Wed. to Sat. We'll see what happens.6 -

I realized this morning that I never redid this post after losing it the other day. My Thursday run finished off my second leg for MFP #2 on the Ekiden race. I was supposed to be doing a threshold run but just didn’t feel like it, so I just ran by feel. Maybe pushed a little, but in general just enjoyed the run. The weather was cool and perfect.
Headed out to climb later that night at a local gym with some tall walls!! About 64ft. It’s such a different experience than the 35ft or so I usually climb on. I love going there but we rarely do because it’s pretty far from our house and we are limiting our gym time to practice times for my daughter’s team. Every now and then they have a practice out there and it gives us a perfect excuse!
Long run this morning after I get coffee and breakfast.4 -
@martaindale how cool with the tall walls for climbing. Would love to try that. I wonder if there are any in the region I could try out. I think nothing above 45' around here.

Easy run with my usual Saturday group today. I was relieved that the forecast was wrong and it wasn't raining. Compared to last week's gorgeous weather this felt really cold, but it was 43 degrees so not really that bad. I forgot how to dress though and should have brought a hat or headband at least.
I'm still in a stressy place mentally so not really looking forward to doing this 5k tomorrow. I've got a scheduling glitch I need to resolve for it to even happen and then maybe I can relax and just enjoy an actual in-person event. But it's kind of tempting to just crawl into bed and stay there for the rest of the weekend and avoid the whole thing.6 -

Bike ride yesterday
My work conference for this weekend got moved to Zoom, so I got through the morning meetings today, made lunch, ate it and went for a run. Normally that's not a problem for me, but apparently something didn't agree with my tummy this time. Nothing was coming up though, so I just kept going. Then at 4pm it got dark and the smell of coal furnaces got really bad. So I can't say it was the best run ever, but I did get 7k to complete my 40 for the week

How long before the Taco Bell is up and running @Scott6255 ?
I am a cyclist @polskagirl01 and I look down on people who think I am snobbish 🤣
Good luck in your tri-bute @brittanystebbins95
The new job has kept me so busy and eating wayyyy too much. At least I have settled into a pattern of running / riding to work alternate days to balance things out. Having to pick my spot with the weather now, went for a couple of hours on the bike today, didn't intend to be that long but 40 mph gust make for slow progress. Dropped the bike today in a tricky spot but no harm doen
Running to/from work is interesting. You would have thought running through mud would go slower but no - running through mud - in the dark - through the woods - on your own - you can go quicker!
Signed up for the Brighton Half next June as build up for the full marathon though committed to run a marathon solo before then. I can't wait forever for a race to get organised!10 -
Wow @TheMrWobbly - that sounds like a slightly scary commute to me! Glad you’re getting pacy. @katharmonic - sending you positive vibes for less stress and a good run. Well done to everyone racing in person or virtually. I know when life means I drop off here for a while I’m still reading when I can and following, so 👋 to everyone posting or reading.
Some interval work on the treadmill for me this morning. I had planned to run outside but it was too rainy. Hoping to find a window tomorrow but forecast is pretty bad. Pleased to be well over halfway to goal now as I’m on track.
Happy weekend everyone x

Blew and swept the leaves off of the porches and part of the driveway. It's a never ending battle this time of year at my house. Then I took Tippy for my warm up walk into the neighbor's pasture. Came back, changed shoes, and completed my run and cool down walk doing laps on the driveway. The weather was great - 64°F and sunny. The run was pretty good today. I went a little bit faster than I have been, so tried for somewhere between easy and hard effort. Turned out my HR thought it was pretty hard, but the rest of me was okay with it. According to Garmin I spent 43% of the time in Zone 5 - >167 bpm. I didn't feel like I was working that hard.

Long run this morning. It was about 70 and humid when I went out this morning. So gross. It rained right before I woke up and part way through my run, the sun came out and it felt like running in a sauna. This was the longest run I have done since January and it felt like it. Hopefully the weather will be better next week.
Afterwards my family went for a hike. My husband has been wanting to do more hiking so he found a 93 mile trail near us that has several trailheads. Our plan is to hike it all in segments and get our daughter more comfortable with a bit more mileage.
It's a pretty forest and a really quiet trail. We are planning on going 2-3 weekends a month to work on it. Did 4 miles today and my daughter did fine. If anything, I was the one getting tired. After a long run this morning, those extra miles wore me out fast.
After, we got pizza and watched a movie. Perfect ending to my 10th anniversary!!9 -
@noblsheep - hope your air quality improves soon so yo can get out and run more!
@TheMrWobbly - don't you hate when work and life get in the way! Sounds though like you are figuring out a way to make it all fit. I am not sure I would be running in the mud in the dark though.
@martaindale - what a lovely way to celebrate your anniversary! The hike looks like a great place to explore!
@polskagirl01 - hope you feel better!
@quilteryoyo - when I saw the workout time on the newsfeed I thought Wow she really went for a long run! Wasn't thinking it was a mix of activities!
@katharmonic - I hope you work out all those stressors and enjoy your race tomorrow. Or enjoy staying snuggled down in your bed! Both sound good to me 😁
Well, My run started as a run...after several missteps including a change of shoes and a broken, hands free, leash (!) we finally got on our way. I thought my legs would loosen up as they typically do but after attempting to run and having dead, dead legs I decided to give them a break and just enjoy a walk. It was gorgeous out! High 60's with a breeze. Saw all kinds of hawks and the osprey soaring on the wind currents.
So the leash... I have a handsfree leash I have been using really since starting to run with Hobbes the Vizsla. Today as we started out he saw another dog he loves and rather than stay at my side once realizing that Lucky saw him too, Hobbes tried to bolt to him and the leash broke right at the clip. It can't be fixed but it does have a lifetime warranty. More importantly Hobbes was SO bad. He wouldn't come back to me and just danced around Lucky so they couldn't continue on with their walk. He eventually came back and we went back home. I was tempted to leave him there but took our normal walking leash and we headed out again. Ultimately I wrote off Hobbes bad behavior as him not having many opportunities these days to just be off leash and play outside with other pups. It is however awful running or even walking fast holding a leash.
Any of you (@mbaker566) who use a handsfree leash, what do you use and why do you like it? I am going to look around at what is new to see if there is something I might like better before I go for a warranty replacement.
