Paid off our mortgage and home equity loan this week, along with all unsecured debt. Truly a freeing experience. We have never been debt free before. I've decided to continue with my part-time job for a while longer yet ... couple projects I would like to fund without going into retirement savings.
Discovered I have significant osteoarthritis in my knees, the right one giving me great grief. Knee replacement is the definitive answer, but my orthopedist is recommending PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) injections. I'm doing my research on it and other alternatives with the idea of prolonging the need for replacement (I'm 58). Insurance, not mine nor anyone else it seems, covers the PRP procedure ... figures.

Congratulations!
But sorry to hear about your knee.

I remember those days ... weeks ... months ...
It's part of the reason why I live in Australia now. I miss lots of things about Canada, but not the winters.

TV shows: I spend altogether far to much of my time watching daytime TV! Although I do often pick up the dumbbells, or walk during them, especially on wet days. DH and I often watch different shows in different rooms. Although we also watch BBC dramas together. I like arts programmes and he's not keen. Watched Dancingbon Ice, The Big Pottery Throwdown, and Finding Alice tonight; a double episode of Death in Paradise last week etc.

5. E - Endurance circuit
6. F - 2 sets of 10 seconds of forward lunges, front raises, fire hydrant side leg raises, fast feet, and forward bends.
7. G - Generosity - I was generous to DH today and went out with him for a walk, despite it being bitterly cold.

Machka “My mother… wanted to dress me up…” Mama gave me a permanent every six months until I was 13. Was able then to put my foot down and say “never again” and kept to it except for one disastrous body wave/shag in the 70s.
I had those perms too! They did gradually taper off as I got older and my last one was an attempt at a long hair perm in my mid 20s.
And then I discovered that my hair has its own natural curl ... when it is a bit humid, not when it is really dry.

Michele, thanks so much for calendar and sweet Valentine pad!💖💖💖💖. Love it! And I will use your calendar to make cute doggie envelopes!
I appreciate you!

Worked today so no formal exercise. Bowling after work and then mahjongg at night. The plan for tomorrow is to do a body pump video
Barbara – my mother was a hairdresser. One of the few things I remember about her is that she would give me a perm all the time
Heather – how in the world did you find Bea under all that? They’re so cute
Rebecca – so glad you got the calendar and paper. Enjoy!

It is always messier before it gets better.
However, I am trying to do it in sections. I feel like I'm working with one of those sliding puzzles. The blanket box in the middle of the dressing room is my "free space". I empty a drawer, put the contents of a shelf into that drawer, put the contents of the drawer onto the shelf and so on.
Plus I've got a bag for items I will donate and a bin for items that will move downstairs.
Tonight will not be an organising the dressing room night ... too busy with other stuff but I hope to be back at it tomorrow with dresses, skirts and button-up shirts.

Machka - I suspect this will become a yearly vaccine like the flu shot. I don’t know when or if they’ll ever ease mask rules though.
Kate - I don’t think you’re being cynical I think you’re being honest. I don’t believe our curriculum works for everyone. In the area I grew up in they have started a new school, students still have to meet some provincial requirements but they are taught in a whole different way. They build sheds, cook, garden, etc. Basically they are taught many life skills that teach them math, science and reading while they are doing. I have heard incredible things about it and what it has done for the students. I think it’s only a middle school age group.
Barbara - Share what your feeling with someone you really trust. This is a hard one. Everyone seems to be going through so much right now. It’s hard to talk to friends.
I understand your No mentality today, I have been feeling the same lately.
Katla - we are so fortunate to live in this era of technology. Did you FaceTime and such as much before the pandemic?
Viv - that is scary about the dog thefts. I remember when cats used to bring those presents growing up. I hated them.
I was one of the poor kids growing up, but I was so incredibly blessed that I always managed to get the “in style” outfits because of my grandparents. They always bought me a new outfit for school, then my birthday and Christmas. Usually something for Easter and passing as well.
Both of my girls chose junior high’s that required uniforms. My eldest did all three years and my youngest chose to go back to a normal school for grade 8 and 9. My eldest said the uniform didn’t level anything because some had more parts of the uniform or more than one kilt for example. She said what was really noticeable was the binders, pens, etc. You could tell who the rich ones were by those items.
Julie - I agree sewing is an expensive thing now. I used to make all my own curtains but can’t afford to now.
Kim - I hope you are able to get all of your embroidery caught up soon.
Rebecca - I organize like you. I need to do a deep organize and declutter. I need my hip and back to be better before doing it though.
Vicki - we had some staff sick with the first dose and some sick with the second, I wasn’t sick with either but my arm was sore for a couple of days after the second. The staff that had Covid were more sick after both doses. Just headaches and fevers, no serious adverse reactions.
Sorry to hear about your staff member and the extra hours. Sometimes being the boss just sucks!
Carol - my though, and I sure can be wrong, is it will cause less hospitalizations and deaths. We might still get it but not as severe. It might help get it under control. Glad you got your second dose.
Dandl1986 - sorry I Keep getting you and Mrs Hoffer confused one is Dee and one is Teresa. I’ll get it soon.
I love Leslie Sansone moves, I’m anxiously awaiting clearance from physio to start doing these again. I don’t use any machines. I have joined a gym twice and I hate them. I find treadmills and ellipticals make me incredibly dizzy. As for any other machines I just find them incredibly boring.
I had perms in my teens and a couple of times in my early twenties. Then my hair went curly on its own as I aged. I have had two perms since 2018 though and they seemed to help tame the natural curl. They were part of my daughters hairdressing course, I was her model for the perm exams both times she needed it.
Not much to say tonight. Just very cold.
Dillon - opened his eyes for his Mom today, he is not out of the woods by a long shot, but a good sign.

Hi ladies! I've been reading, but not keeping up with commenting.
Allie ... so glad to hear you are home from the hospital! Please do not be so hard on yourself. Your body had not yet healed from the first surgery when you went into this second one. It is going to take time and I'm imagining your progress will be measured in very small increments...but you will progress. You're still in my prayers.
Kelly ... I LOVE your attitude! Let us know when the cabinet gets installed.
Debbie ... MFPs calorie counts are often inaccurate ... go with the package, make certain you're reading serving size correctly ... that's the best you can do. I used to do corrections on entries ... I don't know if they still allow that ... amazing discrepancies.
Karen in VA ... I'm with Kelly ... miss your input! Miss hearing from SuzyQ too.
This week has been a snowy one and it is coming down fast right now as I post. It's winter. The new puppy loves the snow thank goodness! He's been keeping us busy. Lots of energy ...
First week of my husband's retirement and he has been trying to be "helpful" ... we'll see how long that lasts. Paid off our mortgage and home equity loan this week, along with all unsecured debt. Truly a freeing experience. We have never been debt free before. I've decided to continue with my part-time job for a while longer yet ... couple projects I would like to fund without going into retirement savings.

We'll watch the Super Bowl tonight .. tough one for Buffalo to watch ... but I'm really only watching for the commercials.

Congratulations on paying off the mortgage and loan!!! Such a great feeling!
We paid off our mortgage right before my husband retired. That was our goal/criteria for him to retire. He did go back part time just to stay busy plus too young to really retire(52yrs old). They limited the hours he could work and still get his pension but they lifted the limits in April because of the virus so working more hours for now. It is great having the extra money going into the bank. He will keep working part time for a while (looking forward to cutting back to his 64hrs a month instead of about 100 hrs which could go up), I am hoping to totally retire soon- I semi retired two years ago-no more 55hrs a week doing daycare. Triplets burned me out!(that and over 35yrs of doing it)
I got an email from the salad company. The serving for the salad, which is mostly ice berg lettuce, is just one cup.
I was going by the number on the front of the package and assumed beings it was small that it was one serving. I didn't even think to look on the bottom of the bowl to see the rest of the info.

I made my own curtains a few times, including a handwoven lace valance. I made lined drapes with grapes growing down on one side and upside down on the other side. I never did fix that. Lol!

Hi Gals,
Comments on a couple more of the discussion items,
Glasses – I have worn glasses since about 13 years old, a 18month break when I wore contacts, I was in my early 20’s and dating a guy who told me I would be cuter and he would like me better with contacts – I hated them, and after 18 months the contacts and the boy were gone. I tried progressives for a week or so, I have not great depth perception and the progressives made it worse, I managed to bang into my desk at work with my temple and knocked myself out. Those glasses went back and I wear bifocals and am very happy with them.
Sewing – I look back now on all the clothes my mom made and all the love that went into them and appreciate it so much more than I did as a kid. Part of the lack of appreciation at the time was that I never got to pick a pattern or the fabric, I just got what was made for me. Mom and I have quite different taste. And very different builds so what flatters her is not flattering on me. She is a huge lover of suits/blazers and tailored things, while I am not a ruffly lacy girl, I do like flow, so a swing jacket instead of a blazer, a fuller skirt instead of a pencil skirt….. she loves dark blue and checks - I love jewel tones and either solids or swirls or a true plaid.
But all that said, I do love to sew and do it when I have time, I worked for a company that had formal Christmas parties each year and I would always make my dresses, the last one I did has a beaded jacket. I have made my drapes, valences, pillows, bedspreads/quilts, I live in jeans and flannel in the winter and shorts and tee shirts in the summer now so sewing for myself is not as fun. Every so often I will get a box in the mail from one of the god-kids or my nephew with all their mending and pants that need to be hemmed…. They have learned that everything in the box better be clean before mailing it to me -LOL

As a child I remember playing with those! But I used to carefully pop out a tile and solve it, and pop it back in. You can do that with a Rubix Cube too. I also have a memory of popping out the spacers in the places in my mouth where teeth were pulled, and they wanted the teeth to be trained a certain way. I popped out the metal ring things, ate my offending candy, then popped them back in. I was so awful!

THIS! Exactly! I had an annual-ish perm for many years starting when I was a college freshman . Somewhere along the way, I got natural curl, but I always felt the perms helped control the frizz. Everyone thinks I was nuts to think that 1) my hair became curly in my 20's and 2) a perm helped control frizz, so thank you for saying that! I feel validated

Yes, now that the two of you have said it ... I used to have almost straight hair, just a very slight wave. If I wanted it curly, I would have to get up early and crimp and curl it, or braid it in little braids the night before.
But now it's quick and easy to get it looking curly. Spritz it with a water spray bottle, a bit of sea salt spray, and something to hold it (a little mousse or hairspray) ... scrunch ... and voila ...

Tuesday --
Back to work.
Physio at lunch to check my hip ... there's a problem and I'm being sent to my GP to go the medical route.
Walked to and from physio and to the movie theatre after work.
Husband and I attended the Big Bike Film Night: https://www.bigbikefilmnight.nz/about/
Right toward the end of the movies, I plugged into a zoom meeting - the AGM of Audax Australia, my cycling club. Fortunately I didn't have to say anything.
Walked to catch the bus home at 9 pm. Thankfully still a little bit light out. The walk to the movie theatre and then to the bus was an additional 1.1km.
Finally got home at 10 pm.
I enjoyed the collection of movies put on by the Big Bike Film Night, as usual, but this going out in the evening business always wears me out. Nice to be home. And I'll be going to bed shortly.

HOly Shoveling Snow! Twice a day shoveling the past two days! Shoveled again this morning! IF the snow keeps up, I will lose all of the weight that I need to lose! IF only I could have a year of this. No more weight problems!4

Welcome. I hope you'll keep coming back. The thread moves fast but if you jump into a topic that interests you, you'll soon feel like you've know us forever. Tell us about yourself. I am way past 50 but have had success at losing weight and keeping it off thanks to the support of encouragement of the women on this thread. I log my food and exercise every day. and keep active by walking my dogs, walking alone, riding my exercise bike while watching TV, and dancing.

WELCOME Holly! Nice name.
We are very happy today. The bin men didn't come yesterday for the general trash, (snow and ice), so we thought they wouldn't come for the recycling. Then this morning at breakfast we heard a tinkle of glass from up the road. You've never seen DH move so fast to put the recycling out. In his dressing gown and slippers in the below freezing temperatures. Success! Later on we heard the dulcet tones of the regular truck! Double hooray for today!
Of such small joys are our days made.
Duck legs tonight with fennel.
Lisa - Don't they grow fast! Bea will be 5 in a month.
Lovely photos.
Done my exercises, done my writing, done my German grammar. Watched Call My Agent - 365 calories worth.
Now a snack and Spiral. My Spanish is getting neglected.
Brighton and Hove covid numbers plunging. Fewer people in ICU. Fewer in hospital.
Tracey - I'm sorry you are feeling a bit low. You have been at the leading edge of this thing. Plus your awful, terrible cold weather. That would surely knock the stuffing out of me. Can you find a friend to chat with?
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx2 -
Tracey: Stay warm and safe!!!
Barbara & Machka: I had one of those awful permanents, too. I looked like Harpo Marx. I never let anyone near me with a permanent box again. :noway:
Tracey: We facetime with our son and DDIL often on Apple phones & computers. Our daughter does not have facetime available. Now we have the opportunity to visit with her visually via Zoom & Duo. Our whole family was able to watch the Super Bowl together from three different states: Oregon, Virginia and Illinois. It felt like magic!
Kim: My mom also made clothes for me when I was a child. Junior High and High School were both fashion competitions & I did what I could to buy “in” clothes. Bottom line—I was never “in.” I was part of a group of nice girls who were also not “in.” It was okay.
Holly: Welcome to a great group. Post often and get to know us. :flowerforyou:
Machka: I hope you’re able to resolve the hip issue.
We are having a foggy morning. I enjoy fog now and then. It makes me feel cozy & warm inside our home.
