I was always a size 6-8 and in the past 7 years went to a 10. I figured this was just “normal” for me now in my late 40s. When the 10s started getting muffin-top I said no way am I going to a 12. This was a year ago. I’m now back into 6-8.
I always exercised but realized I’d been really not going as intensely as I could be. Yoga as my main activity wasn’t cutting it any more to keep me toned. I added in weights and upped my cardio intensity. Got a Fitbit Versa 2 to help track my active zone intensity daily.
I ate fairly healthy but portion control was an issue and too many treats. Tracking my food everyday has made a difference. I did Noom for a year and have now made the switch to MFP.7 -
Trigger for actual weight loss: I taught myself what calories were and how to calculate how much I eat in a day. They didn't teach that in school.
The straw that broke the camel's back: I had a co-worker at a job tell me it would be impossible for me to lose weight since I was big all my life. Had to prove that hag wrong.21 -
Every day 10K steps minimum5

I cut sugar and bread from my diet.9

The trigger for my weight gain was a combination of perfectionism and taking things too personally. I live with a family member who tries to take care of me and in the process it was lowering my self esteem. After I went through counseling and learned coping mechanisms and that everyone(my family member included) has their own issues, I was able to stop using food to soothe myself. Only then was I able to control my eating behaviors.12

Focusing on enjoying exercise instead of the calories burned.
I’ve seen a lot more progress with yoga every day and running 3x a week than when I tried to force myself to do HIIT 5x a week9 -
Being told my dog was 20+lbs over weight. He deserved better care and started walking him more. Lost 80lbs myself in the process and shifted approx 20lbs of the dog.29

My trigger was 2020. I had COVID over the summer which made me very sick. I learned that I am pre-diabetic and also menopause hit. I was in the hospital for 5 days. I came home 9 pounds lighter and it dawned on me that I hadn't had sugar in 5 days and had eaten very little and only healthy foods. I had basically already been on a diet for 5 days while in the hospital and those first few horrible days of dieting were behind me. I basically haven't really eaten sugar since! I don't eat anything refined. I eat about 1200 calories a day and I log what I eat on MFP. I walk an hour a day. I started at 177 and am down to 146. I am 5'3" and 54 years old. I go back to the doctor next month for an A1C test. I am hoping that my levels will be back to normal.26

Knowing I've got a sorority reunion coming up in October. I want to look my best when I see my sisters after 35 years.

I was just reading comments on another forum about people's exercise "regime" and my first thought was that none of it sounded like fun. I do something every day (what I do depends on the season or the weather). I sweat. My heart rate gets up. But I enjoy the process. I spent years going to the gym but it always felt like a "necessary evil". I never looked forward to going......I just went (I enjoyed the results though, so there is that). I don't even consider what I do "exercise" but I hadn't noticed that change in my approach till you mentioned it. Thanks! 🙂4 -
In the first two months of Covid- all we had to look forward to was eating; so I gained even more. I felt physically lousy and knew I had to change something or I was going to be in serious trouble health wise. So I went back to basics. Logging my foods, exercising daily, walking and getting involved in community to help keep my focus. Honestly- I don’t know what “clicked” this time compared to all my other attempts but I’m soooo glad it did! Started at 193.4 and today 144. I have a goal weight range of between 135-138- so I’m very close. I feel fantastic both physically and mentally and looking forward to enjoying my retirement more once we are on the other side of this pandemic.11

I started watching my carb intake and honestly tracking everything I eat. That’s what help me .5

There are many true reasons why, but if I could pinpoint the moment it would be...
Sitting on the couch watching Frozen II with my 3-year old son during the COVID lockdown. The future was full of unknowns and my professional role as well as my family life was at a crossroads.
Cue Elsa's journey "Into the Unknown" and the climactic song lyrics of "Show Yourself":
"Show yourself, step into your power
Grow yourself, into something new
You are the one you've been waiting for
All of my/your life"
And even though in that moment my realization wasnt specifically about weight loss, it was about leaning in to the difficult journey ahead and loving myself enough to know that I could take control because I am worthy.
Thank you Disney.16 -
healthy keto with heaps of green vegies. I have lost 44kg from eating a healthy ketogenic diet. I have kept it all off over the last 2 years. I still do keto and my new goal is ketosis 365days of the year this year. I need to get down one more dress size. (size 8)1

I finally figured out that this delicious food is abusive to me. It was just like a jerk taking my happiness. I started eating one half of any high calorie food. I thought if a person was pulling me down this much I would get rid of them, I had to do the same with food. So I eat my 1400 calories and say that is it, want something else you can have it tomorrow!. My weight stays steady 159-162 at 5'4. Fine with me, I was up to 208 lbs at one time. I appreciate feeling great! Love my sz 10-12 clothes.16

It was a combination of finally being treated for anxiety after a decade and my surgeon telling me I'd be happier with my proportions if I lost a little weight before my breast reduction surgery.3

Eating only a few bites if anything, after 5 PM.2

Me and my dog also put on weight at the sane time and are losing it together! Well, he's hit his target, now I need to hit mine lol14 -
I quit drinking sugar soda and buying large bags of gummy bears - that was what started my weight loss.2

The thing that got me committed to losing weight was nerve pain shooting down my leg which was caused by excess weight. The thing that really helped me maintain a 1000 calorie deficit a day for 10 + months was upping my protein to at least 100 g a day and and limiting my carbs to 100 net grams. Those guardrails helped me stay on track. After losing the bulk of the weight and increasing my exercise, I relaxed the deficit and the carb limits, but still find that a balanced blend of macros (30/35/35) keeps me feeling satiated even in maintenance.9

Wasn't a tip so as much as getting some blood work back and the PA being like "So, you're glucose is a little high. It's not a guarantee for diabetes but we should keep an eye on that..."6

For me it's been tracking every single calorie I consume, even the bad and ugly. It's been a slow process, but I've lost 75lbs in 13 months and I would never have been this successful without a tracking app.14

I dropped drinking glasses of milk, most cheese, and most bread. Took 700 calories out of my day and I didn't miss it.6

ed losing more weight when I stopped having tea with milk and sugar rather than I take black coffee now. Those 3cups of tea would be around 400calories and without them I'm losing weight much faster than before.Duhhhh [/quote]
I am completely confused by this. 6 teaspoons of sugar is 96 calories. Three servings of half and half is like 45.1 -
Losing the sugary shite. Even a small "treat" makes me hungry for the rest of the day.7

Well... if you use like half a cup of 2% milk in your tea like I do, and 2-3 tsp of sugar like my bf does... That's 90-105 cals per cup of tea. And if you use cream instead of milk, that brings it even higher. I used to put 80-100 cals of creamer in my tea and coffee. Not sure why you're confused that 3 cups of tea could equal hundreds of calories...5 -

Where are you finding half and half thats 10 or 12 calories per serving?
Even my fat free is 20 calories per 30ml/2tbsp serving, and it’s the lowest I found.
Would LOVE to find one that’s lower so I can have more!!!

I bought a food scale and started measuring my portions and logging everything.12

Covid was my trigger, my excuse was always lack of time, work, kids etc etc
When lock down hit, I’d no excuse, started waking everyday and really enjoying it, started slow, 1km a day, I now walk up a minimum of 5km a day and up to 10km if I have the time, but I go out every single day, rain, sleet or shine.
I’m down 71lbs and feeling great!!
