Julie, it’s very true that i don’t know how our relationship (my son and I) would have evolved over time. I meant what I said about my greatest involvement being with my three daughters because of distance and the closeness of having raised them. I had looked forward to hearing about his family as well as my other family members, but hadn’t envisioned anything like a yearly pilgrimage.
I think you also may have something in the idea of concerns about fiscal responsibility for me should I not have the resources. Actually, my eldest and her spouse are very well off. He is foreman for major construction efforts such as shopping malls and industrial complexes. She is a masters in nursing with a background in administration. I’m sure they would not leave me wanting were it to come to that. As it is, I’m a retired teamster with a pension as well as social security, and reasonable insurance available that covers everything with little copayment except dental and vision. I don’t think my future is too bleak.
My other two daughters might not be able to provide much financially, but they will both be capable of seeing to my needs physically should I need help.
Oh, Rori! This was an awful lot for you to deal with in such a brief interval. Be very gentle with yourself. Allow yourself all the time you can. I’m so glad you have your wonderful cat to snuggle with and confide in and laugh at. Take every opportunity you get to laugh.

slept ok, declined a last minute late invitation out yesterday (it was already 8:30 pm here).
still feeling unhappy about not being able to go freely in sun anymore.
sun is also good for health in many ways.
Good things done yesterdayfood shopping
wee bit of cleaning
little walk
read some in depth article in paper (about how students in need are managing getting or not getting summer jobs, in and, in one case pre-pandemic)
eat some fresh fruit and veggies and soy protein and fibre
canceled trip to library and rested
aiming for balance in exchanges (telephone, mail or text)
listened to positive affirmations tape while sleeping
a wee bit of time on recumbent while on phone
being myself in conversations, speaking my mind in a peaceful way, even if I don't agree
Grateful
decent night of sleep
healthy food easily available
so quiet in the summer in august here
it's supposed to be nice out on days I booked for beach
comfy bed

It is wonderful that you had a nice moment with him, which I guess is never a given in such a context. That is worth a lot.
It's great that your teamster retirement and your daughters mean that you will likely be well taken care of.
It could (for example) be that he was deeply depressed and unbearable in the years after his adoptive parents died and that after meeting you he was emotionally moved (maybe in a good way but maybe he was shaken up too, and his spouse said, she couldn't take anymore upheavals, etc, etc. That is just an example of one possible scenario. People can be so emotionally fragile, especially these days in this long difficult pandemic. There is just no way of knowing. Sometimes people don't even know themselves why they make this or that choice.2 -

I have thoroughly enjoyed the Olympics this year. 🙂 And I watched all sorts of sports I don't normally watch!
I'm probably going to feel a little bit lost for a few days like I do when the Tour de France ends.

Allie ~ Congrats getting your disability! I was wondering what has become of Jean's mom? Haven't heard about that once you became ill.
Carol in GA1 -
Allie –- I hope your SS disability benefits start showing up. It sounds as though you should have been receiving them since last year.
Kim — Happy Birthday! I am happy to hear you are doing okay. Good news that your mom is able to spend time with you. She is lucky.

Pip- your yard sale finds are great! Those things here at a yard sale would probably be $40, too many people have raised prices on yard sale items and everyone else has followed suit.
Rebecca - I bet that made your son quite happy!
Allie - did you have to drive back to your home not the camp yesterday?
I think a lot of teens get moody, but I was always one to be called out on it and I sure did it with my girls when they were teens. That’s great news about disability. I hope you get some rest today.
Kim - Happy Birthday!
What a great way of handling your Godchildren. I’ve done things like that too. Teaching them consequences is a powerful lesson.
Our youngest was terrible for saying she was going to one friends house but switching and we couldn’t find her. Cells were a thing, but we didn’t allow our girls to have them. She didn’t understand how worried we would get. One night after trying to get her to understand we decided to show her. We told her we were going for groceries. We went to a movie too. She was in tears when we got home. She is 30 and hasn’t been living at home since she was 19, but if she’s going away for a weekend or something she still lets me know where she’s going and when she expects to be home.
Evelyn - a friend of mine was spending her last vacation night camping in BC last night when it started down-pouring. She was quite happy to see rain for the region, but was dreading packing up the campsite with the wet.
I had a wonderful visit with my daughter yesterday. Her pup is such a sweetheart and there are talks that of everything goes well I’ll be having another grandchild next summer. It will be a process for them but they are hopeful it will happen in October/November.
Today I am going to organize my paints I brought home and may go into work for just a couple of hours.
I can’t decide if I want to just be behind starting my week or get caught up a bit to make the week easier.

Having trouble keeping up while working! Good news is that I got a good raise raise. Not sure if if this is good news but makes it so I can only work 10 days a month.
Otherwise going good so far. Trying to not worry about DH’s choices.
Living with “I can change me but not other people!” Let them suffer the consequences of their actions. Take care of me!

I am knitting the baby blanket and have many rows to go before turn around lets each row get shorter. I am enjoying the process. 😁3

Allie - I wouldn't have wanted to be hived off to god knows where with my grandmother, just for the convenience of my parents. It wasn’t her choice. I would have been totally p....d off.
I spent a couple of hours this afternoon looking for photographs of me in my teenage years. I don't have many, because my parents were into cine film by then, but I found a few. In the box I was looking in was all our yesteryears. Photos of my grandmother as a small child, my grandparents parents, my grandfather's war photos of him with one leg, my parents' wedding, my mother as a teenager with her first crush, and so much more. I have left them on the floor because I don't know how to sort them all. The ones I was looking for are me and the family in my grandmother's garden, when I was about 12 or 13. I will post one when I've taken a photo.
My new memoir covers the years from 9 to 17. I have my teenage diaries. I remember so vividly what it was like to be 13. In my case a lot of it was hell.
I'm still a bit shaken by looking at all the photos. But I feel very privileged to have them. So many lives are there.
