Yogi – happy Birthday and many many more. What flavor cake did he have?
We spent most of today putting Christmas decorations away in the one garage. Now my car and one of Vince’s can go in! Yea! I only had to scrape ice off the windshield once this year. The plan for tomorrow is to put away the decorations in the other garage. At least it’s supposed to be warmer. Then went to Kohl’s to send the popcorn maker back to Amazon and stopped at Hamrick’s to see if they had the bra I wanted. They only had it in different colors and I want white. Then went to Gabe’s and got a pocketbook since the one I had was starting to fall apart and this was at a price I was willing to pay. Something like $38 for one large pocketbook, a smaller one, and a wallet. I think right now I’m just going to use the smaller one and see how it goes. Maybe I’ll need the larger one.
Barbara – it WOULD be nice if Jessica were to go to one of the schools nearby. To be honest, I think her bf is hoping too. He feels (probably so) that there’s more of an opportunity for him to get a job in the research triangle area. I still wish he had more than a high school diploma. He’s smart, I don’t know why he doesn’t want to go on educationally. But I don't want to push her since I know that she'll try her best to be near us. I want her to make her own decision and not be influenced by us.
Kim – so glad you were able to get to the MD. What was the problem?
Cwb – what great paintings!
Got an email that our pastor was exposed to covid and may have it. I thought he already had it so doesn’t he have natural immunity. The email said that the Bishop couldn’t find a priest since so many were sick and our pastor couldn’t find a replacement. Then the email said that we should use our discretion whether we want to worship in Newton or somewhere else (there's only one Catholic church in Newton). Huh? If there’s no priest, how can we worship? So I didn’t go to church tonight, which was OK since I wasn’t scheduled to lector. Actually, I’m not scheduled until 2/5. Have a feeling that I might not go next week, either. I refuse to let this run my life, but at the same time I won’t be foolish, and going to church knowing that there’s a possibility and that I really don’t have to, to me, would be somewhat foolish
Off to take a shower.

Well picked Carmine from the party and he had a nice time. Im taking him out for lunch or dinner tomorrow if the freezing rain that is coming doesnt mess things up..
Carmine has given up with art no longer interested and the talent that they have.. ugh
They will be going to a vocational technical school for high school next fall..
If that is the plan getting into something like that can be much more lucrative than college.. whatever they want to do I will support.2 -
I really hope things start improving for your father!
I am surprised they're letting you stay that long. When my husband was in hospital, they had quite strict visiting hours, and that was pre-COVID.
They have a pretty strict visiting policy because of Covid. He is only allowed two visitors and they must be the same two visitors throughout his stay. So Mama and I are the designated visitors. That means my sister, who is here from New Orleans, can't even come up to visit. As for letting one of us stay 24/7, they like that, because there is someone in the room all the time to keep him from trying to get out of the bed and to call for help if he has a severe coughing episode that puts him in distress. One nurse told us that there was only supposed to be one of us in the room at a time, but she was not going to enforce it. none of the other nurses or doctors have mentioned such a thing and it is not posted that way. It is usually just one of us anyway, except for the major part of the day when we are expecting a doctor or social worker that requires decisions to be made. We aren't so much "visiting" him as we are "watching over him." He spends the majority of the time sleeping.8 -

Flea - what a wonderful report. I’m very happy for you.
Kylia - I think going for the cataract surgery is a smart move.
Barbara - I hope Joe listens to the neighbour. Sometimes something small now will become huge in the future.
Ginny - Covid is running rampant here too. Hope your staff all have mild cases.
Machka - hope your ribs heal fast. I remember having a cracked rib it is so painful.
Terri - I’m sure there will be Easter stuff on the shelves here too. I haven’t been yet. On Dec 23rd I needed another gift bag and when I went to our dollar store it was all Valentines stuff.
Retail rushes the seasons terribly.
Heather - congratulations on the story publication. How exciting!
Lisa - I’m so happy for you that you are sleeping better. What a relief it must be!
Allie - nice healthy weight.
Pip - Happy Birthday Yogi!
Kim - so glad you are able to get the medical help you need.
Carol - your Granddaughter has such talent for a young age.
Katie - I hope you and your mom get a chance to rest too.
I got a good start on putting Christmas away today. I still need to take the tree and my village down, but most decorations are safely stored in their totes again.
I have decided to make a change in the entry way and have purchased a small bench. I will pick it up tomorrow. I am going to move my deacons bench, which is too big for the entry, to the living room. I will add some throw cushions on it to make it warmer looking.
It is currently -24 and forecasted for -17 tomorrow rather than the -6 it promised earlier this week. I’m not surprised.

Doesn't the hospital have sitters?
As soon as my husband woke from his coma and started moving around, he was assigned a sitter (or to the sitter program - there were several sitters) because he kept trying to get out of bed and pull his trach etc. out.
When I came to visit, the sitter would go on a break for a little while. Or sometimes if "heavier" work needed to be done, like hitching him up in bed (he'd slide down and try to "escape" near the bottom of the bed), the two of us and the nurse on duty would do it together.
The sitters are usually partially trained in something medical (advanced first aid, just starting out in nursing, etc.)
It saves the family from having to be responsible ... and I couldn't have done a 24-hour watch.
Even for you, that's a 12-hour watch each. That's an incredibly long time! It doesn't seem healthy for the carers (you and your mom). (((Hugs to you two for doing that)))

Jogged a 10K event this morning!!
Machka in Oz
This is the event I did:
The Cadbury Marathon
https://cadburymarathon.com.au/
There are 5 events: Marathon, Half-Marathon, 10K, 5K, and 1K. I jogged the 10K and my husband walked the 5K.
They have a bit of a party atmosphere with music and announcers and little pavilions set up around the place. Even out on the route they had a DJ and music!
When you finish, you get a medal and bag with a bottle of water and chocolates. Cadbury Chocolate, of course.
I was hoping to run the half marathon again, like I did the last time, but didn't feel trained up for that. Then after my back muscle spasm/rib issue, I was glad I didn't choose the half marathon. But maybe next time!

Went for my first 5k run for ages. It's either been too wet, too windy, or too icy.
Today dawned dry, cold and the sun was coming out. No wind.
First pic of a woman and two crows.
Second pic on the jog home. Blue skies.
Dropped in at the deli for fresh veg and then did 25 mins rowing.
Now enjoying coffee made by DH.
Well done Machka on the 10k. I have never run that distance. 8k is my furthest and not for a couple of years.

Accountability:Chose well: 144!, readings, BP, yoga, osteo back, mfp50+, steps >7400, CI<CO, H20x6
Bonus: stroll with T & C, dog group, AF, veg prep
Workin’ on it:
Happier January 2022
9: Get moving. Do something active (ideally outdoors).
Slippery, sloppy hike with T & C along the creek down to the beach. Further south, the larger creek was too deep and swift to get to the rest of the beach. Blue sky, blue sea, chilly in the shade but gorgeous day. Brunch then dog group. Was so pooped I made poor food choices. To my astonishment, CI was still < than CO, if barely.
Kim that pic of Levi! So glad your Dr. listened and you’re feeling better.
Carol WOW. Does your GD take art classes?
Debbie Joe also sometimes uses his health card to reject food I offer, so I’ve gotten into the habit of offering nothing except a bowl of prepped raw veggies. Perhaps once a week I’ll say “I’m making X for my lunch, would you like some” but try not to attach any emotion to his choice. I’ve also learned that if I set out an entire plate of something he shouldn’t eat (candy, cookies, ChexMix) he’ll eat the entire thing at one go, so I’ll ration it out a few pieces at a time. He has mostly stopped bringing home donuts, but pies continue to appear in the fridge…
Sue searched YouTube for laughter yoga videos. Fascinating. Thank you!
Pip that’s quite a cake mix. What are the round sprinkle toppings?
Allie could Carmine show you how to post a pic? Might be best to post a pic of them first
Michele is there no provision in your church for remote viewing (Livestream, Facebook live or??) /worship? Even if you can’t take communion, you can hear the readings, listen to the sermon…?
Kay words fail. Big hugs held extra long.
Tracey those temps make me shiver. Keep safe and warm!
Machka I’ve never heard of hospital “sitters” but think it’s a brilliant idea. Con VERY grats on the 10K!
Heather your pics inspired me to check the distance from Brighton/Hove to France. Was disappointed to learn that due the earth’s curvature it is not possible to see Dieppe from Hove. ;}

Great photos!!
Our churches have gone to livestream again.
I hadn't realised hospital sitters were a thing until my husband's hospital experience. Most were really good ... a few not so much. A few just wanted to sit on their phones or wanted to argue with me about what my husband could and couldn't do.
One insisted to me that she had to feed my husband. I told her he was perfectly capable of feeding himself. While she was busy explaining to me that according to something she had read or been told he must be fed, he picked up his spoon and started to eat. She turned and looked at him and said, "Oh ... he can eat by himself!"
But there were many others who were wonderful, especially when he was in the "pulling everything out" stage.
If you google it, there are heaps of jobs available for hospital or patient sitters.
And thanks! I wasn't sure how I was going to go with the 10K but decided I would walk if my back/shoulder was really bothering me. Fortunately it was OK and I jogged slowly most of the way.

Barbara, Thanks for the photos. How great to be that close to the ocean.
Allie, That's a great idea to ask Carmine to help you post a photo, but first take a picture of them and then have them help you. Teenagers are usually good at working with devices.
Heather, great beach photos.
Except for my years in college in Minnesota, I've lived near the coast all my life but never close enough to the ocean to walk there.
When Jake was in the hospital a few years ago they had a place in the room where I could sleep so I could be there if he needed anything. I thought it was great. He got help when he needed it and I had a place to sleep since the hospital was several hours away from our house.
Sunday is always a happy day because we pick up our groceries between 8 and 9.
Barbie in NW WA3 -
Good morning all! Happy Sunday! I rested yesterday. Which means I sat at my computer and did paperwork, made out my grocery list and watched a couple of shows. Paint Your Wagon is free on YouTube; it always makes me laugh, so I watched that. Jacob Woodling: "But, Elizabeth, you don't know what you'll get!" Elizabeth: "Well, I know what I've had!" lol I was thinking about that whole scenario; Elizabeth Woodling Rumson being the only woman in a mining camp of 300 men, who would do anything for her (including building her a home). As the only woman, it put her in a precarious position but also gave her a decent amount of power. If she had been more ambitious she could have owned that town. Ah well, that would have been another movie, I guess. I also watched the animated movie Encanto, as homework. What an amazing movie! About the family Madrigal, who all (except the main character, Maribel) have special "powers" given to them by "The Miracle". Like any good fairytale, it has a moral tied into it. Moral: People are MORE than what they can do. Lyn Manuel Miranda wrote the musical numbers. I bawled like a baby during Luisa's musical number. I felt that character in my soul. Link in spoiler if you want a peek at Luisa. I am sure many of us have felt, or feel this way . Carol- I have seen pics of the snow you have gotten in the south. Quite a bit! Stay safe and warm! Your grand daughter has a lot of artistic talent!
Pip- Happy Birthday to Yogi! Love how you are giving him a "day"! I also love that "wet" pic of him. My favorite! I look at it and just wait for him to shake the water from his fur. lol Sweet boy!
Allie- Congrats on grandson, Miles! I am sure Tracey and Kyle will be making plans to include Carmine in family bonding time. The hard part is, as a teen (and a teen that is experiencing self change/awareness); it is hard to say whether Carmine will feel like bonding. Keeping them in my thoughts, that they will strengthen this bond.
Katie- Sending healing thoughts to your dad. I remember the days of taking shifts at rehab homes after my MIL's various health issues. It does take it's toll on our bodies. Keep a notebook.
Machka- I am not sure if "sitters" are offered or available in any U.S. hospitals, rehab/nursing homes. When my MIL went through all of her various health problems; we (husband and kids) took shifts sitting with her and taking notes on what was being given to her and what they were doing to/for her. We also took notes when the doctors came in to check on her. Prognosis, etc. You are correct in saying that those hours of "sitting" are mentally and physically exhausting.
Well, I have to get busy with shopping and everything I need to do to get ready for the week. The kids and I are going to plant a couple of "winter gardens". lol I got the idea for it after watching the kids play outside last week. It will not be what you would think. I will post pics. ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)5 -
Morning ladies
Slept pretty well as you can on a couch, but had weird dreams though i cant remember them
Im glad I canceled Carmines art subscription, im just heartbroken that they are not interested in art anymore.
Wasting such talent I hope they go back to it someday.
Im not going to bother Kyle or Tracy today if they want to contact me that is fine, they both need some rest and with the drs and nurses coming in and out they are not getting much..
Poor Tracy is nursing and Miles isnt latching well so they want her to express and give her a break.. they hurt.. I remember that.. only saving grace there is that Kyle can feed him and she might be able to get a nap in.
Tomorrow Carmine goes back to school so I have to get a snack and water in a bag for them and get him to school by 7:30 I think they will be coming home tomorrow I dont know when.but im guessing in the afternoon so I will pick Carmine up at school too.3 -
Barbara - you can see Calais from Dover on a fine day. There is a ferry from nearby Newhaven to Dieppe, but alas too far to see France.
Lovely pics.
I have never heard of 'sitters'. Not sure if we have them. My DSIL had to employ a private sitter for her father who was going through terrible DTs. The hospital had basically abandoned him as a worthless piece of hopeless junk . She hired someone from an agency to watch him and then afterwards billed the hospital. He had recovered. I think she threatened to expose their negligence. She got the money back.
Done a bit of literary housekeeping this morning. Moving text from place to place and backing things up.

I feel so far behind on here. I don’t get to spend time online unless the grands are sleeping or I’m on lunch at work.
I’ve been working on me more this week and taking care of me. It’s hard when you have a house full and no one but you cares that anything gets done. This may sound selfish but I’m ready for my next chapter to begin. The one where I’m an empty nester and get to be just grandma and keep a clean house and get to enjoy time to me.
Anyways, today it’s raining here after the beautiful weather we had yesterday so I’m catching up on laundry and making rice masks.
I’ll try to check back in as often as I can

Morning, my dears,
Allie - so pleased all is going well, that Miles is safely here, and mom and dad are getting some time with him before the world intrudes.
Barbara AHMOD - Love the pics! I loved walking the beaches of Oregon during our three years there - picturesque isn't even close.
Kim - sounds like you found the right plan and the right doctor. So pleased you're getting what you need and feeling better.
If there is anything I've learned over the last couple of years, it's that we have to be our own advocates in any healthcare situation, as well as being advocates for those we love. It can be literally a life and death situation.
Got bread proofing in a warmed oven, laundry to move over to the dryer, and all the bread-making bowls, cups, implements, etc., in the dishwasher, and kitchen counters wiped down. I feel as if I'm participating in my own life again, after a long absence. I'm trying to take none of this for granted, which may have been the other lesson I was supposed to learn.
Maybe. I don't know anymore.
Hopes for a peaceful Sunday and a lovely week ahead for us all.
Love,
Lisa in AR4 -
grandmallie. I remember my youngest child not wanting to latch. Tell her to try different positions to hold the child and in time it will come naturally. They can sense our frustration too. Praying that he latches for her soon.2

Exermom- vanilla
Auntiebk- I am not sure, it came as a cake packet that included everything. Sure it was dog friendly to eat0 -
Allie ~ I know I am old and out of touch, but, why do you refer to Carmine as them/they?
Eileen ~ What is a rice mask?
KJ ~ It will be interesting to find out what a winter garden consist of after seeing the snow pics.
Barbara ~ I love the photos of the ocean and rocks. It looks so much different from what I grew up with on the Atlantic side of the US.
Sitters: My dad lived in the local community hospital for two years (he helped it be built when he was chairman of the county commissioners in our community). He had hired sitters 24/7 as he was blind and immobile. I am sure that was all paid for out of his own pockets.
It continues to be unusually cold here and will continue next week. I would contribute all these changing weathers to climate control, but, then I remember the age of the dinosaurs that led to the ice age. Leaves you wondering! Maybe it's the plan we are not to know.

My Dad had a sitter provided by the hospital when he had bypass surgery a decade ago. It gave me time to go have a shower and nap each day. I didn’t know it existed either until they offered.

Heather – I love the photo of the person watching the sea. It is wonderful.
Barbara - I love the photos you post of the beach. They are all beautiful!
We have a chilly & foggy morning. I am happy to be inside, warm, and comfortable.
