HEATHER DH stopped buying a newspaper ages ago but I will ask him to get the Express tomorrow. I’m looking forward to your short story and we both like the puzzle pages. It will be win win.
Really struggling to lose extra pounds, well under calories, cut back on carbs, burning 500 cals when exercising. Really need to just carry on, not get discouraged and hope it works.

Morning ladies
Ugh didnt sleep well at all ,anxious because we are getting a snow storm and Tracy and Kyle have to get up to the hospital by 9:30 smack in the middle of the storm.Kyle is kind of a lead foot and im worried he might be a nervous ..
So ive been awake alot of the night.. turned on the news and weather and looked out the window and that just gets me more anxious ..im going to try and go back to sleep for awhile i hope..6 -
So it turns out that my upper back/shoulder issue is a subluxated rib.
So basically ...- resting
- avoiding strenuous activities
- applying heat or ice to the affected area
- taking a painkiller like acetaminophen (Tylenol) or a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB) or naproxen (Aleve)
- doing stretching and rotation exercises
Getting old = turning over in bed and "popping" a rib!! 😐

Barbie, Katla, Sue, saw the blizzard on the news, hope you all are safe and warm.
Margaret, thank you for bringing the beauty and colors.
Welcome @mrytckr ! Would you let us know what you’d like to be called and your general locale?
Annie restaurant food can be higher in sodium which can cause the scale woes.
Lisa sleep, hooray! Fingers X’d for the cardio appt.
Heather’s “…Bea’s sooty blob…” sounds like there’s a story there…
Rita con GRATS on the bone density. Safe travels!
Michele what’s on your list of things the grocery stores are out of? Here it’s a lot of dairy and frozen prepared foods.
Debbie lack of sleep makes it hard to cope with pain. Double hip relacements? Owwww!
Pip every time I see Yogi’s smiling face I want to smooch that pooch!
Rebecca so his re-enlistment is for two years beginning in 2022? Then when (not if) they promote him to 1st class, he’ll re-enlist to finish out the Guam tour?
Machka you sure know how to set a scene and spin a plot... but the very best was the camping memories that came back to your DH. Popping a rib=painful, and don’t even think about sneezing
Suebdew hope your duplicate players are as more fun that the ones I met back in the day. IMHO party bridge players are the most fun.
Kate couragia, trust the process, it will work.
Dogs are training me to ditch, ditching the bowl. They are holding out and not participating in play training, and I cave after awhile. Grumpf.
Joe’s up so here I go.

Machka - so sorry about your rib. Boo! These things seem so easily done.
I somehow smashed my PR on both the elliptical and the recumbent bike this morning. These records have been standing for around 11 years. Goes to show it's never too late! (I'm 72)

Thank you! Yes, that was the best part of the story. I am so glad that weekend went well for both of us and that he was so enthusiastic about camping and using his camping things.
I did sneeze the night before last. WOW!! I screamed and couldn't move because it felt like someone had driven a knife right through my back. It was a while before I could stand upright.
That was right up there with sneezing with cracked ribs after a bicycle accident in the early 2000s and my lodged kidney stone in 2009.
But I was warned about sneezing with cracked ribs and had a pillow handy for support. This time I was hanging laundry and completely unprepared.

Machka-enjoyed the Maria Island journal. Beautiful place. Sorry about the rib-it is amazing how simple things can cause such pain!
Heather-congrats on getting another item published-you are on a roll!
Julie-I don't do much with listening to things. I mainly just check out podcasts while walking. I am currently hooked on mythology readings.
Allie-good luck with the arrival of little guy! Hope the snow doesn't impact things.
We just got a dusting of snow yesterday/last night but we have very cold temperatures.
Youngest son just accepted a new job. He has been disgruntled with current employer for some time. This gives him the chance to work in a different sort of plant and learn about different types of production (work up until now has been automotive). It is a management position in the shop with some growth potential. Increase in pay. Just glad all three of the boys (include my stepson!) are working and responsible.
Off to get Friday out of the way. The week appears to be ending better than it started. UTI still bothersome-hopefully doctor has something good to bring to the table next Friday. No big plans for weekend. May pick up boards to use for moulding around ceiling in basement. Just getting some 3 inch square cut pine so I can butt corners-not going to drive myself crazy trying for mitre cuts in a basement.
Take care all,

O.M.G. Third snow day in a row. My house has been full, full FULL. 12 kids each day (one 3 mo. old, one 18 mo old, two 2 year olds, four 3 year olds, three 4 year olds, one 6 1/2 year old). I have been up and shoveling every morning; so that has been my exercise for the past three days. DH and DYS are both sick with some awful cold (non-covid), so the downside is that I do not have their help. The upside is I also have not had to cook any meals for them since they are just drinking soups, teas. lol (every cloud has a silver lining)
Heather - Exciting news about your story being published!
Machka- Love your pics and the tales of Rhody! Sorry you are dealing with cracked rib(s)! Yes, coughing and sneezing are detrimental to your health! Hugs, friend.
Suebdew- Hope you can get out on that golf course soon!
Rebecca- Love the pic of your son at his reenlistment "event"! He definitely looks happy! I bow to your ability to fast. I can only do about 18 hours and only on Sundays (when I don't have a lot of physical activity/chores that need doing). Hangry Miss Kelly does NOT play nicely with children. I am glad that it is working for you, though!
Well, kids are beginning to arrive, so I better scoot! Sledding, shoveling, hot cocoa and making snowflakes is on our agenda today. Fish tacos for lunch. If the kids don't eat them all, I will definitely have a couple of those! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)4 -
Machka- Really enjoyed reading about your trip 😀 and the mystery story.

Julie, i listen to podcasts about meditation and happiness but do not use guided meditations. When I meditate I focus on my breath and when I get distracted, a return to focusing on my breath. I do that over and over. It's like exercise for the mind to continue to return to the breath when distracted. It's because of that practice that I can refocus my mind in normal situations when it starts to drift into worry or morbid reflection.
For a few days, I've been writing the pros and cons for going back to teaching my line dance class. I have to make a decision because the venue where I teach has been approached by someone else to teach line dance during my Friday time. Yesterday I called a friend in California to go over my writing with her. She is smart, compassionate, has known me for almost 40 years and is understanding, yet unaffected by my decision. With her help, I decided that I will call the venue and tell them that I cannot return to teaching at this time so if they have another customer, they are free to do what they want. I figured out that there are only a few reasons I want to go back (the students and I miss dancing together, I want things to go back to normal, and I don't want someone besides me teaching beginning line dance in my town). The reasons for not going back to teaching now are many starting with the fact that my husband is seriously immune compromised and I should stay away from others as much as possible. Along with that, there has been so much on the news about Covid outbreaks and I've talked to others who are staying home out of an abundance of caution for their family members.
All my reasons for wanting to go back to teaching are selfish or wishful thinking and my reasons to continue staying home involve caring for others and health. It was an easy but emotional decision once I spent time with my friend going over what I'd written. Never underestimate the power of the pen (or pencil) and counsel with others.
Jake saw the new cardiologist and loved him. Shorter drive and much more attention from the doctor with many good suggestions for new behaviours to improve the health of his heart.

Katla,
I am here, reading along each day!
Feeling neurotic and anxious about all I have to do.
Wondering why I self-sabotage when I have a lot to accomplish.
All totally worthless - the neurosis, the anxiety, and the wondering. Pffffttt!

I was up two pounds and am not surprised, as my clothes feel tight. I am apparently retaining ALL the water. Yay for being female.
Today I'm doing a lot of prep work. I have chronic pain and fibromyalgia, so as much prep as I can do in advance is that much less standing at the time (arthritis in my feet) and that much less complexity to handle mentally on a bad brain fog day. My partners and son and I all have food intolerances and allergies and issues, so I need to cook from scratch so that we can be our best selves. I also do a meal plan five weeks at a time, because when I'm hungry I can't think straight, and that way I just have to get out the meat the night before and then do a few things and there's food and I'm okay. It also helps me when people say, "What's for dinner?". I print out weekly menus and post them just outside the kitchen. Look at the menu, don't ask me. (grin)
Last night I fried two pounds of Italian sausage with two pounds of ground turkey for pizzas. (That's one of my tricks; still tastes good but cuts the overall fat of the sausage way down.) We're going to make and freeze a lot of pizzas today. Son has said that he can eat pizza every single day and be happy. (And this after working six months at a chain pizza place!)
I also fried three pounds of "hot taco meat"....ground meat with Mexican spicing. It will go into tacos and burritos and enchiladas and wraps for the people in the house who like things hot. (My boyfriend and girlfriend, who both grew up in California eating real Mexican food.) I also make mild taco meat for me and my son, both of whom are autistic supertasters who grew up eating bland food in the Midwest, but we go through that slower. I keep the taco meat and the pulled pork frozen in quart zipper bags, six ounces per bag. That's enough for us to do a couple wraps or a meal of tacos or burritos without having a big amount of meat hanging out to spoil, and since it's cooked one can always warm it from frozen in the microwave in a pinch.
There are eight massive chicken breasts on the counter now waiting for me to get done with my tea and go handle them. I'll cut the tops off horizontally and trim them for chicken cutlets, and that's two meals for four people each. The bottoms will get cut for stirfries and curries. I'll freeze the stir-fries in marinade, and that gives them lovely flavor and texture. Plus, of course, it makes it easy for me when I get ready to cook. Then I need to chop onion and peppers for pizza toppings. At some point Son will wake up and we can set things up to make four personal pizzas for me, four personal pizzas for Girlfriend, and six medium pizzas for Son. Boyfriend has had weight loss surgery and has found that pizza just doesn't work for him as a meal, so he has fish (which most of the rest of us aren't into) on the nights where pizza is scheduled. I don't like pizza as much as my son does, so having it show up twice in five weeks is about right for me.

Machka you must be right - I lost 1.5 pounds overnight! I really need to restrict weighing myself to Fridays only, and trust what I know about calories. The scale is always plus or minus a pound or so. Wicked fickle thing.
Heather I'm so happy to see you publishing! And sorry for your friend's loss.
I'm stiff today, sore in spots but not too bad. I did a few extra stretches with dumbbells last night, but that should help, not hurt. I'm still babying my right shoulder. Off to do elliptical and yoga next.
We had four inches of snow last night. My dad had it shoveled before I got up. I used to feel bad about letting him do it, but not bad enough to get up early to beat him to it. I've really gotten used to staying in the house all day for days at a time.
I did leave to go riding yesterday. Poor Henry got a mysterious cut on his jaw that took ten stitches. But he was still glad to work. I ride him with reins attached to a halter, no bit. I think he was happy with the indoor footing because his pasture is sloshy with melting snow.

My latest challenge is to play a full round of solitaire with my back straight instead of hunched. Building new muscle!
Machka, I moved my feet to the front of the elliptical and that helps my knee! Thanks again!
I did my yoga and elliptical! Yay!

Well its a rainy day on the island. Husband seems "barky" at me. Its like, " is there anything else I don't seem to be doing right"??? (I got up at 8 am instead of 7 am so...). Ugh!
Closing my fasting window in a bit. It wasn't too bad, my dreams were all food related though.😳😂

It is morning and time for coffee. I take mine black with a few drops of stevia. My left knee is not hurting as much as it did when I fell months ago. It seems like it is finally beginning to heal.
(((Hugs))) to those facing challenges. 😘.

Well I cleaned off my car and am over here at my daughters house.. they pushed the c section back an hour because they blew out a vein in Tracys arm trying to start an IV so she should be going into surgery in the next few minutes.
The poor dog keeps going to the door looking for Tracy and of course Carmine is upstairs and will only come down to eat .. wont even bother with grandma.
Before I left home I got up of the bed wrong and did something to my lower back.. just what I need.. its sore as all get out but I can walk. Hard to get up and walk around but Ill be ok..
Just heard from Tracy they are taking her into surgery now.. if your the praying type keep her in your prayers for her and the baby5 -

He had both hips replaced and less than five years later, he had to have both redone and the revision was more extensive because of the damage to his bones that the first set did plus they had to come out because they were also causing cobalt/cromium poisoning. 44 yrs old when the first were done 48 or 49 when the second set were done. He still has trouble with them but they are better than they were. Scar tissue causes a lot of pain too.
He doesn't go to bed when he should, says he isn't tired but I find him asleep in his room daily with tv, laptop, lights all on. Tv so loud I hear it at the other end of the house but he sleeps through it.

Allie - Thoughts are with you and your whole family.
Managed to pack up the last of the Christmas tree decorations and got the outside ones back inside to dry off. DH seemed to have no interest in doing it, so I waited until he went out and finished it. Not sure why he didn't help with any of it.
I'm annoyed with him at the moment. The Fire stick is in the TV where my son put it, but he is showing no sign of registering it and getting it to work. I can't do it because it's the one from his other tv and in his name. Grrrr!
I feel like getting my son round to get him going.
These feelings will pass. I'm sure he has his reasons. He never used it in the other room, so probably hasn't given it a thought. It annoys me as a task in waiting.
All on my mind. We are fine with our recorder. He has never watched Netflix in his life. It's me who wants to accomplish all this. Getting crosser and crosser is just my stuff.
Grrrrr!

Worked then went to the soup kitchen. I swear, many times the food is pretty good. We’re to go to a Newcomer Winter Party tonight. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Jillian Michael Shred it With Weights DVD
Julie – I’ve never gotten into visualization or meditation. As a matter of fact, meditation would probably put me to sleep
Barbara – I’ve been looking for Great Value brand apple juice in 8oz bottles, Great Value unsalted crackers, Aldi’s brussel sprouts, cinnamon, juice, sardines, small boxes of tissues, edamame, phyllo shells, quart freezer storage bags, slow cooker liners, certain trash bags. Some of these items I might wind up having to buy a brand that I really don’t care for
Talked to the manager at Burger King today about the fact that I’ll be leaving for a month to go to FL (I didn’t mention FL, just “our other place”). Honestly, I was a bit worried that they wouldn’t want me back but she kept saying “that’s OK, just note the days” Relief on my part
KJ – love how you find the silver lining. I still want to be a kid in your daycare, or at least have my grandson in there. Would have loved to have had someone like you when my kids were little
barbie – I’m so sorry you’re giving up teaching line dancing. I know you really enjoyed it. But I completely understand your reasons. Does Jake agree with you?
Made soup in the IP. The plan for tomorrow is to make another tomato soup. Really, I’m running out of containers to put it in...lol
Allie – I was hoping by now we’d know. Good thoughts for a safe delivery. We want pics!!!
I got a popcorn maker for Christmas. The first time I used it, it was fine so we threw out the box. Now, every time I make popcorn, the popcorn burns. Almost as if the popcorn maker can’t push the popcorn out. So we’re going to return it to Amazon, even tho we don’t have the original box. I’m sure this has happened to them before.
