Heather - I have a friend that I take in small doses too. I love her, but she can be overwhelming at times.
Great picture of your grandchildren.
Beth - there are times I wish I rented and had a landlord to call. Repairs are so costly.
I hope you are able to get your parents moved. Here I know that governments will make exceptions to healthcare costs when it involves getting the elderly closer to family.
Michele - I don’t know what’s going to happen to people. The cost of living is getting so high.
We finally did it! I think all of the payroll system issue has been corrected. I need to call to make two small changes and then it’s done.
My brother received his red seal diesel mechanics license last week and has been so happy about it. This week he has been posting on FB posts that made me think he was angry at someone. I asked him tonight if he was ok. He had asked his current boss for a 1.00 raise since he’s now fully licensed. They had told him a year or two ago he would get compensated accordingly when he received it. Anyway, they didn’t answer him one way or the other. So he updated his resume and applied for two jobs. He was hired in the spot for the second one as the shop foreman and is getting $3 more per hour. He wants to go for his heavy duty and agricultural mechanic next. He has to have 3600 hours to do so. I am so proud of him. He turned 50 in February.
I regret not going back to school in 2017 when I found myself unemployed. I was too scared not having a job though and didn’t know how I would survive.
I need to get through tomorrow and then I have 4 glorious days off. I have no plans and am very excited for it. I may just be a lump this weekend.

Hugs, light and love to you all dear friends. Sorry I have been MIA for most of this month. I got waaaay behind and finally today sat down and read the last 16 pages of this thread. As I read about everyone's challenges and stress, I sent out prayers, energy and strength to help you day by day.
Kim: I know that Tim's assistance is a godsend now, but hope you will keep your radar on. Heather is right about the kind of people your brother likely attracted or hung out with. Why should he care when your mother moves? That's a family decision, and you are well in your rights to tell him so.
How much are you willing to let Tim handle? When/how should he retreat back to his normal life. As for your anger...well justified. You lost your family once when they abandoned you, and now that your brother and mom are approaching their final transitions, my heart hurts for you. 💔
Betsy and SueinWA: You have been in my thoughts daily. I am a little over month away from Bruce's one year anniversary. It went so quickly. Just when I think I have all the paperwork sewn up, there is something, like taxes, that pops up. Gah!
Lisa: Sorry about your VA issues. However, you do sound like you are feeling better even without the Rx.
At the end of March I visited my sister and her family in San Diego. She is 82 and doesn't travel anymore. Has a beautiful car, but doesn't even enjoy driving. We saw the immersive Van Gogh, and she was very welcoming of my high school friend, Andi, who came over for a visit. I hadn't seen my friend since graduation 48 years ago. She is coming to visit me in Denver this June. My sister and I are very much alike with our taste in food, and she took great pleasure over a small box of gourmet chocolates made to pair with red wine. We indulged a bit every night while watching a couple episodes of Schitt's Creek. Simple fun.
I started pickleball bootcamp last week on a particularly cold and gusty day. We were on outdoor courts and it was so difficult tracking a little plastic ball that literally hung in the air. I fell lunging for a forehand, and skinned my knees. Otherwise, I did enjoy it and have been out to practice again before our next lesson tomorrow.
Work has me covering a wide variety of events, which I absolutely love. This week started with an arena rock concert (Journey/Toto), and will end with a musical (Jersey Boys) on Easter Sunday. I've attended BoogieT and Subtronics -- that was an interesting crowd. I am looking forward to Saturday for a show by Guatemalan singer Ricardo Arjona. I do love Spanish love songs. And I am working at the Ballet Masterworks performance on Friday. Never boring, not terribly stressful and truly fun.
My lady friends from the travel group also have a luncheon scheduled on Saturday so we can begin discussion about where we would like to go next year. I already have my personal trips scheduled for New Jersey (August), Montana (September) and Hawaii (November). All these trips will put me in places where I have friends which makes it even sweeter.
As always, stay well. We can do this.

Well, my newsfeed appears to be working again. But what about the other bugs every time MFP updates?
It’s the blind leading the blind!!! Programmers keeping themselves in jobs with constant updates which cause more problems than they fix.
If it ain’t broke, leave it be!4 -

If you use the website, you may not be having the problems others are having.
The app is being constantly ‘fixed’. Unfortunately, the fixes often create more bugs.
There have been two recent updates, (supposedly bug fixes) one 8 days ago, and another yesterday, presumably to fix the widespread loss of newsfeeds, and problems with food diary entries that folk were complaining about this week. Yesterday’s update hasn’t fixed all the problems.
I only know about them because I have been having to reinstall the app repeatedly over the last 10 days, and it notes the last update on the app store.
This morning it took me over 45 minutes to get the app to load.
And yes I have reported my concerns, repeatedly.
Minor First world problems, I know.
Technology can be incredibly useful, but it can also be a *kitten* at times, when it goes wrong.1 -
We have had hummingbirds living nearby for many years. One of our neighbors decided to cut back the blackberry bramble where the hummingbirds lived. I miss the little birds. I hope they’ll find a new home nearby. We have been feeding the little birds for many years. I hope they continue to visit our sugar water feeders.6

This past week has been way too hectic and busy.
Monday was the usual busy day at work, then right toward the end of the day an opportunity I've been wanting came up. My boss asked if anyone wanted to be on an interview panel. Yes! I want to know what happens on that side of the table!! Then I found out that there were 40 applications for the position and I'm still wading through them.
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday each had medical or medically-related things pertaining to my husband's brain injury in the middle of the day. Spend the morning, doing a bit of usual work, attending work meetings, and wading through applications ... then dashed (brisk walking) off to the appointments for a few hours ... then back to work on the application pile.
I ended up working late on Tuesday and Wednesday ... and then all evening on Wednesday on those applications. Australians do not use short applications.
In addition, I had a meeting with my next place of employment. They sent me a number of documents for a project they want me to be involved in. I skimmed them on Wednesday morning, went into a work meeting, dashed to a brain injury meeting (as mentioned above) and then dashed to the future work meeting which was supposed to be an hour but ended up being 2 hours.
Today I had a lunch I was supposed to attend and an afternoon meeting about the applications but my husband's appointment ended up being 4 hours long. I missed the lunch and, happily, the afternoon meeting was postponed.
Meanwhile, in the evenings, I reviewed what was required for me to get a Carer's Allowance. I knew there had to be a catch.
And I was sort of indirectly notified that my Office 365 will be ending and I have to find an alternative option! It means I need to move a whole lot of files rather quickly ... but my system doesn't like to move files quickly. So I've been emailing and emailing and finally got a short extension.
Rest? Relaxation?
What are those things??
Thank goodness I'm on holidays now.

Hey all! Happy Thursday! This is the third day I have tried to respond to everyone; and it hasn't posted my reply the last two times! Third time is the charm (fingers crossed)? I will apologize now if I repeat or forget someone; I have thought of you all this week.
Lisa- So glad you and Corey are safe from the storms that have rolled through the past week or two! A tree down, then a tornado...tis the season, I guess.
Heather- I love the time that your DH gets/wants to spend with Max. Lots and lots of articles on how important grandparents can be in a child's life! When you speak of time spent with your friend; I can almost hear my mom saying "All things in moderation!" That can refer to good friends as well. lol
Beth and Betsy- Thinking of you both and sending big hugs and prayers for peace.
Kim- Wow! What an emotional roller coaster for you! Sending you thoughts/prayers for peace, clarity, strength...whatever you need. Not an easy time.
Rori- HOnestly, your job sounds like fun, to me. Enjoy your visits with friends!
All of the new ladies!- Welcome! Feel free to jump in when you feel the urge. We are pretty chatty; but a big part of good health/healthy choices is being in the proper headspace. This is the group to get you there or help you stay in a good place.
It has been lovely and spring like for the past few days. Temps in the 50s and 60s! A storm rolled through yesterday morning and our birch tree dropped a rather large limb onto our roof. No damage that we can see; but the tree will definitely need to come down soon. It has lived its life and is beginning to die. But it has been nice being able to take long walks and be outside more with the kids (and be comfortable outside; not cold).
Well, I better scoot. Thursday is a "busy" day with ten kiddos here. ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)

Good morning ladies!
It's a beautiful sunny day here. The neighbor has been running chainsaws since 7 am. No napping today.

Rori, Kelly, and everyone,
Terri, Machka On the phone app... I've given up on it for now and just use the website on my computer. Every update seems to create problems and my posts disappear and sometimes I can't get on at all. I don't know if it's something I'm doing or if it's just not a good match with my iPhone but it is just so frustrating.
Tomorrow will be three weeks and I miss my life with Jack. It seems more like a lifetime than three weeks. I'd like to go to Alaska for summer from middle May to middle September. It would be good to be back home in tundra country and spend summer with kids and grandkids and my sister, return to WA for the winter. I don't know if I can make it work but my that's my goal.
Yesterday I went to the utility companies and changed the services into my name. I set up direct billing to the bank with paperless billing to my email. At our internet provider, the office manager was so caring. She is my age (71) and her husband died in October. This month they would have been married 62 years. She is back to work working two full time jobs because the spousal survival benefits from the armed services haven't kicked in and she needed to make ends meet. She has all the records of their payments to assure her a pension but the system takes time.
Lisa , I thought of your journey through the quagmire of the VA and this sounds also bizarre. This woman ended up inviting me to come in anytime to talk or cry.
Yesterday afternoon I mowed for the third time. I didn't scalp any areas but I mowed the front of the yard without engaging the blades.... and finally figured out why it wasn't cutting the grass.... I'm learning.... kind of muddling through things.

Last update was yesterday. I would post a photo if MFP didn’t keep crashing the app.
App version in my App Store is 22.7.5
I use iPhone 8, Version IOS 15.3.1
My old iPad won’t run the website. I can use it on DH’s tablet, but it’s not that convenient.0 -

Ah ... it's probably an iPhone issue then.
Sometimes when iPhone or an Android phone make updates, apps have to scramble to modify things to match.
We were dealing with that with an app the doctors use. In that case the Android update rendered the app useless and the vendor had to come up with a workaround.
One workaround was to back up to the previous Android update ... so not the current update but the one before.
Perhaps that might work with the iPhone. If you've done updates on the iPhone recently, back up to the previous updates.
Another idea might be to use the website on your phone rather than the app.
If MFP is doing a bunch of updates for iPhones, it sounds like they are trying to figure out a workaround at their end.

MACHKA ~ From reading your posts, I can understand why you say how tired you are most of the time! But, I also think that you must thrive on staying busy all the time. Something to be admired.
RORI ~ Love the fact that you are finding so many things to keep your life going smoothly. Have no idea what pickleball is and will have to look it up.
BETSY ~ Congrats on getting the lawn mower to work. Going to see your family sounds great!
I do not use MFP on my phone mainly because I can never remember how to log in!
I am trying very hard to cut way down on how much I eat. When I got on the scale earlier this week, my weight was at the highest ever for a 5'1" lady and I am determined to get it back down. As I said a while back, I am not trying to be LESS but just trying not to be MORE.

It's only 11:15 pm and I'm going to go lie down and read. Reading probably won't last long as I can barely keep my eyes open! Very unusual for the first night of a weekend/holiday. But I didn't sleep well most nights this week especially Sunday night and last night. So stressed.

I’m just venting. Lol
It’s bad enough using the app on the phone. The website is just too hard on the eyes.

I don't enjoy weeks like the one I've just had. They make me painfully tired and cranky.
It wasn't meant to be like that and even a couple weeks out, it looked all right ... work, of course, and just one medical appointment.
Then all of a sudden, all these other meetings and appointments were scheduled. The 4-hour medical appointment for my husband today, for example, wasn't our choice of date/time ... we were told that's when it would be because that's when the specialist could be there.
I pushed through because I'm now off for the next 11 days. And I'm proud of myself that I held firm and refused two work meetings people wanted to schedule during that time.
When I do fall asleep tonight (soonish), I'll probably sleep 12 hours in order to start feeling like myself again.
I like being "busy" cycling, walking, digging in my garden and things like that.
M in Oz4 -
Oh Betsy... I just have to laugh at the thought of you "mowing" the lawn without engaging the blades. Thanks for the giggle, my friend!
BEEN there, DONE that! I thought I was going to "help" hubby by mowing the lawn before he got home one afternoon and "did" the entire lawn, but it made no difference and I couldn't figure out why. When he got home I had to ask him and he showed me the lever. SO embarrassed. One of the many things he never let me forget.
Carla, in the LONG-grass3 -
Carla/Betsy I’ve done with the mower that myself. DOH!1
-
Betsy/Carla/Terri ... add me to the mowing without blades group! LOL!
Allie ... I admire how much you want to help your family, but I also hope you will rethink carting a growing baby everywhere. There's a reason why we generally have babies in our 20's and 30's ...
It is a gray day here and temperatures are dropping quickly as a wind storm moves through. Rain later. I awakened not feeling too great. Hoping it's just a head cold or sinus issues from the barometric changes. Time will tell!
My fasting schedule has gotten derailed the last couple of months and while I've been able to stick with it 80% of the time that other 20% of the time is not helping my efforts to get healthy. I'm showing myself grace through Easter because I know that I will not (read don't wanna) avoid Easter treats. But soon I have to get my discipline and determination back.

DH is sleeping in this morning. I’m happy that he is sleeping. He’s had a trip to the hospital in Portland and I’m delighted that he didn’t spend a night there. He was there only a few hours, thank heaven. Plenty of errands yesterday filled time.
Yesterday we did some grocery shopping and spent most of the day at home. This morning I filled the hummingbird feeders. I hope the birds will be back soon.

Hi Gals,
You all had me laughing at the mower with the blade up…. As the oldest kid and single all my life I had to go out and look at the mower to see if I dropped the blade on my own mower – it is so automatic I have not thought about it in years – Just do it!!!
I am keeping my radar up in relation to Tim, I had to rein him in yesterday, and when I explained what and why he was immediately receptive which felt good. Just a little history, my brother and Tim became friends when they were both doing drugs, they both got into legal trouble – Tim took it as a wake up call and cleaned up his act. He actually works in a contractor role within the US Federal government so has secret clearance which means there have been a lot of background checks. My brother has been horrible to his family but has been reasonably good to his friends. He is a very angry/hurt person, never really figured out how to grieve the loss of our dad, and has taken all of that anger out on his family. Most of his friends have not seen that side of him. I have thought about what would I do if I was in Tim’s position with my best friend, and I would provide all the same amount of care for her and her family and expect nothing but some appreciation. So I realize that it might be something else, but he could just be a really good guy. Radar is still in its “locked and upright position” LOL
