I’m happy with this loss but my health isn’t the greatest right now. I have been under a tremendous amount of stress at work for a few months. I started with what I think was a stress rash on my neck/chest. I had never had that before. Now the rash has turned into red hives/welts and it affected my eyes. My eyes started having scaly skin on my upper lids. Then one day I woke up and they were red and swollen. The urgent care doctor put me on prednisone which started to clear it up but it was only a 5 day pack. I don’t like messing around with my eyes-ended up going to the eye doctor twice and she only had me buy eyedrops which haven’t helped at all. She thinks it’s an allergy. I can’t get into an allergy doctor for over a month. I can’t wear eye makeup now and have to cover my hives with foundation to go to work. I am going to be having a big interview in the next couple of weeks so I’m really not happy about it. Has anyone here ever had anything like this? Any help would be appreciated!
I'm so sorry you're going through this. Short answer yes, but I was WFH. Saying that I think skin issues are also the discomfort, so even if we can mask them (like with make-up) the loss of comfort is a huge thing. You mentioned the stress in work, do you think they are linked? Mine were, I was being bullied and came out in hives (I do also have psoriasis to kinda used to dealing with skin issues). If you do think they are related is there support you can get in work to lighten your load?
Hope you are feeling better soon and your skin settles. For the psoriasis it took me time to find what helped and once I did it's made a huge difference. But hopefully, you'll be fully healed before you even need to get into that kind of routine.2 -

GW for 2022: 145
Yeah, that tracks with how I've been eating this week. I'll take it, progress is progress. I am pretty pleased with the muscle definition I'm already starting to see on my arms and shoulders - I got little baby caps! Today I went out to the park by the beach to run on their mile-and-change heart loop trail before stopping by the grocery store to grab a couple of things I missed in my instacart order. The weather forecast today is basically "???" - highs in the 80s, "extreme" UV index, but also probable thunderstorms. I want to walk to the closer-to-home location of the salad place for lunch today to get more steppies in. I guess I could just carry an umbrella, if nothing else that will guarantee the brightest and clearest possible sky for the whole hour it will take me to walk there.
For folks marking Easter with a special dinner, do you have anything you're looking forward to on the menu? I volunteered to bring a vegetable so I'm making some brussels sprouts. I haven't decided yet if it's going to involve bacon. Some of the brussels sprouts I got in my grocery order this week are also enormous - I'm not sure exactly how to get a picture and post it here, but there's at least one in the bag that looks like a duck egg wearing a brussels sprout costume, it's as big as my palm. Not sure what I'm going to do with those, I think quartering them would still be too big. Maybe sixths or eighths.
Ok, I love sprouts! Lol, most people think it's bonkers. You could shred them and stir fry them. I love some garlic and tarragon in mine, but there are so many options with flavour! Enjoy!
I just picked up some steaks and prawns, so that looks like dinner tomorrow. And I'd say I'll do a simple green bean as a side. Only us so it'll be a pretty simple dinner (my preferred day-to-day cooking style!).1 -

Ooooh, garlic and tarragon stir-fried brussels sprouts...I might save a sprout or two (maybe the BIG one?) and make me a little chef snack bc that sounds delicious. I think I should keep it simple for the family meal though, probably just quarter and roast with a little salt&pepper and fat of some kind - I'm cooking for some folks who are...less adventurous than I am, is a polite way to say it, LMAO.3 -

Feeling good today! I think the weigh-in today is a fluke though - went drinking and dancing with a friend last night, so I am probably a bit (a lot) dehydrated. I weighed after I ate/drank and had clothes on even, lol. I also found a house this past week, so that is a whole lot of stress off my shoulders. I start moving in May 15th, so lots of packing to do this month. I have date #3 with the new guy tonight which I am looking forward to; hoping it goes as well as the others 😀
@goal06082021 I love brussel sprouts! I got some giant ones in my grocery order this week too, lol. My favorite way to prepare them is to parboil them for a few minutes, then saute in coconut oil for a few minutes, and finish them up in the oven. The coconut oil does a great job offsetting the bitterness (they did not tasted the same when I used butter one time). They are so good even my kids like them!

Reserved bacon drippings. I usually serve mine steamed and tossed in bacon drippings with a few grinds of black pepper. All the cabbage family are lovely with bacon.

Good morning everyone!
192.0 this morning! My super-straight maintenance line has moved downward! And tomorrow, I'm back in a deficit.
Dressing up fancy and swishing around outside last night was fun, I had a delicious shredded korean chicken sandwich with pickled veg on it and we got drunk, lol. And then Whatsisface and I got some exercise.
Up at no-good o'clock to get everything ready for today, gotta make the salad, dispose of the rest of the mustard greens, put some chicken in the crock pot for the week, pack everything in the car, get dressed, and be on the road by 6:30 so we don't miss the egg hunt for the babies. I'm hoping we'll leave early enough from my parents' that the girls can do their normal bedtime routine at the normal time, since tomorrow's a school day.
Last day of my diet break, next one's in June, haha. Let's goooo.
Tag party time!
@jazzadesigns that sounds awful! I haven't had a thing like that happen to me, I did have hives once as a kid- it was a reaction to a medication I was given. I hope this clears up and you find the issue soonest.
@goal06082021 The way I like brussels sprouts is extremely browned on the outside and soft on the inside, roasted on a sheet pan, well-seasoned with poultry seasoning, garlic, and salt and pepper, and sometimes with a little balsalmic vinegar. I also got huge brussels sprouts recently! I had no idea they could be that big. As to what I'm looking forward to for Easter dinner- mostly just not having to cook it, haha. I think my dad's going to make ham, which I'm not crazy about, but I appreciate not having to cook always.
@1stplace4health nice! way to go!
@lmgoff232 I love hearing that your new guy is going well. And moving into a new house! Exciting!
@77topcat Nothing better than a Quest bar waiting for me, warming on the dashboard, haha.
@AlexandraFindsHerself1971 I love hearing you talk about food. I can tell you're a good cook.
Have a great day, everyone, and happy holiday to all who celebrate!

Got up early today to make bread and run laundry so we start the first week of Boyfriend's new job with everything clean and in order. Bread is on its second rise, and I've already folded two loads. I am having a very productive day, and that is very nice.7

Oh I love it when the organising day works out. I was kinda putting it off but then I went to my spare room/laundry room and just started tidying (which is great because we have a guest coming this week). I've been watching "The Home Edit" on Netflix and want more of that in my life!
Best to your OH on the new job.3 -
As Boyfriend is being supplied with lunch as well and is losing weight, I include his lunches in the menu. They are already made and in the freezer, so all I will have to do the day before is to put them in the fridge to thaw. He has a heated lunch box that he puts the container in when he gets to work, and then when he's ready his lunch is hot and ready at his desk. He uses his lunch hour to go for a walk.
There are three of us at home, so we have a planned lunch as well.
Monday: Home lunch: Chicken Quesadilla.
Work Lunch: Out.
Dinner: Steak, mashed cauliflower or wild rice pilaf, brussel sprouts in bacon drippings. Roll.
Tuesday: Home Lunch: Beef stroganoff
Work Lunch: Carnitas, rice and beans.
Dinner: Cajun shrimp alfredo/pasta with meatballs. Garlic bread, pan seared zucchini.
Wednesday: Home lunch: Hamburgers
Work lunch: Baked chicken breast in mushroom gravy
Dinner: Chinese BBQ pork, fried rice, crab rangoon.
Thursday: Home lunch: Pulled pork on bun
Work lunch: Beef stroganoff on pan-seared zucchini.
Dinner: Orange pork, white rice, mixed Asian vegetables.
Friday: Home lunch: Hamburgers.
Work lunch: Baked chicken breast in mushroom gravy
Tacos, hard and soft, rice and beans, salad.
Saturday: Lunch: Chicken patty sandwiches and chips.
Dinner: Shish Tawook, saffron rice, green beans with tomato sauce, pita breads.
Sunday: Lunch: Walking burrito, chips.
Dinner: Beef with Broccoli or Beef with Pea Pods, white rice, egg roll.
As always, I will share recipes.
And before you think I am a totally amazing cook, that baked chicken breast is the old standby of "pour a can of cream of mushroom soup over it". I just add an extra can of mushrooms because his feeling is that there is no such thing as too much mushrooms. (grin) That mashed cauliflower comes that way. As do the "mixed Asian vegetables".
We had beef stroganoff Saturday night and of course we have leftovers, so they are planned in this week.7 -
Good morning!
It's Monday, my weight is 191.2, I've got coffee, it's dark, and I'm wearing sunglasses (I'm not).
Yesterday went well, I only actually ate one meal that kind of stretched all day because of snacks (that's holidays around my house). At the end of my maintenance break that started on 4/8, on 4/9 I weighed 192.2, and today I weigh 191.2. So over 2000 calories a few days, but still possibly slight deficit? Unfortunately for me, my spreadsheet did not like calculating my maintenance calories when there wasn't a deficit. I'm going to have to play with it.
But yeah! Went well! Now back to it! Roll on 180's!
Quick tag party!
@AlexandraFindsHerself1971 See, I love seeing your meal plans. Also, crab rangoon
@porquenoirl oh man, I don't watch the home edit for that reason, haha. It would make me go crazy trying to organize my house around two professional mess-makers (my kids). It can be stressful having guests.
Have a great day everyone!

The crab rangoon's for everyone else, not me. I decided that I just didn't like them well enough for the calorie hit they are, and I make them better than any others I've had. But my girlfriend adores them and my boyfriend likes them, so I make them for them. It works.4 -
Goals for April:
🍎 Increase daily fruit and veggie servings (currently hitting 2-3/day and aiming to reach 3-4/day minimum)
🧘🏼♀️ Continue exercising 2-3 times a week or more
💭 Start seeing a therapist for talk therapy
⬇️ Lose 7 pounds (but I’ll be happy with any loss)
SW: 288.8
CW: 276.8
GW for April: to get under 270
3/28: 276.8
4/4: 275.4 (-1.4)
4/11: 274.2 (-1.2)
4/18: 272.2 (-2.0)
4/25:
I met my goals for the week most days. I ate at least 3 servings of fruit and veggies, except Saturday when I only got 2. It was the second day hanging out with my niece. I did meet my fiber everyday, woohoo. I exercised once because that’s all I could do and that’s fine.
The two days with my niece I ate maintenance level calories, but the day before and the day after I only ate 1200ish (unintentionally). I was just so busy those days and ate lightly most of those days. So all in all, my calories evened out. I did adjust my goal from 1 pound per week to 1.5 pounds per week last Monday so my calories were lowered a little this week.
I had a shakiness issue for a few days. Like my muscles were shaky but I didn’t feel weak exactly, and I didn’t feel lightheaded. I had an appointment the day after it started and she ran blood work but nothing showed up on it. My triglycerides have gone down a little since my original blood work two months ago, so that’s good news! But she officially told me to avoid white flour so I’m adjusting my diet a bit more. I got some sweet potatoes and am going to do cauliflower/brown rice when my brother cooks (in place of pasta or rice) or on my own.
Goals for the upcoming week:
🍎 Keep hitting 3-5 fruit & veggie goal each day
🧘🏼♀️ Exercise twice if I’m able to
🥦 Keep getting enough fiber each day
👩⚕️ Call and set up an appointment with a therapist or start the process of going somewhere4 -
Good morning! I hope everyone who celebrates had a happy and blessed Easter. I'm visiting family, and was blessed by a good sermon at Mass and then a delicious lamb dinner with roasted veggies and a GF almond cake. YUM.
Taking a break from the scale and from reducing calories through next Monday, so no weigh-in for me today. It was really nice to wake up Saturday and Sunday and not get straight onto the scale. A mental break as well as a diet break. I really needed it!
It's rainy and gloomy here today and the dog hates to be out in the rain, so minimal walking time. Thankfully I have a HIIT class scheduled for this afternoon to get some movement in....otherwise I'd be an absolute lump today.
Here's to a good week for everyone!7 -

((super I feel your pain sweetie hugs))) As a long term sufferer of hives (2003-2021), and so does my mother-in-law and on my hubby's side great niece suffers with hives. I have some hints and tricks! Sometimes it just clears up, and you are fine - I hope that for you! But if you do make it to the allergy Dr because you still have hives, there are some things you can do.
Benadryl, or as I call it "bena-drool". I am currently immune to it, but at first it was every four hours especially at the beginning years. Now I take ginger root, which acts the same as benadryl, without any of the sleepies or whatever benadryl causes. Licorice root is "like" prednisone, I kept it for when I was out of prednisone, as a backup. It is not recommended for long term (of course neither is prednisone aka the devils tic tacs), but this stuff is for until you get under a Dr.'s care. If you are still breaking out, you will do a "safe food" test. You will take everything out of your diet, except for one thing (rice first three days if I recall). Then over three days, add one more food, etc. to see if you have a reaction to some kind of food. I recommend prayer here, because this caused me a hearty suspicion that "all food is poison and is trying to kill me because, hives". So I did a constant, panicked IF, and often was afraid to eat food - because I would not want to eat and get worse hives. For me it only seemed to be hives, or worse hives and we never seemed to figure out the trigger.
Be calm, be patient, I could only do it with prayer. As a side note, peri-menopause and menopause - there is an element of allergy changing that happens. I honestly think that is what affected my hives long enough to get off the prednisone in 2021 (possibly, I still don't know). Your immune system goes into some sort of overhaul and your allergies change. I am saying this because: if you have never been allergic to a thing, or always been allergic to a thing - that can mean literally nothing when you hit peri-meno or menopause.
For when it is tough and you are at home, oatmeal baths. Put oatmeal in a sock and put it on your face and in the tub. Just FYI, for me when the bath is too hot, this is bad for my hives. I have to take tepid baths/showers. Try to figure out if your skin reacts to too hot or too cold (at first the allergy Dr. recommended only lukewarm showers/baths). I only use Dr. Bronner's soap for everything, and jojoba oil for the face or if monster face oatmeal aveeno. When my hives are really really bad, I will use a no color laundry detergent like babies use. Make-up I was so hit and miss on, I usually just couldn't wear it - sometimes it would cause monster face, but it would definitely make my face itchy and I would try to buy other make-up etc nonstop. There are some lotions with oatmeal for the body, but again, I couldn't make them last long enough for my needs. I found it difficult to stay lathered, but they helped a bit until I could do something. For me, it was a game of limiting. I was never able to cure the hives, or figure out why they were there - but, I could make them a little less sometimes.
I also picked up a pretty constant routine of washing my hands. I can't remember if this happened during the prednisone (there were years that EVERY single time I left the house I got sick) or if my hands would get itchy, and I would touch my face? Not sure, but it is a good thing to do. Prednisone and licorice root impede your immune system, that is what makes them work. But, you might want to be more careful with your immune system. Because, for me when I would get sick then, overdrive hives with the illness. It was tough.
If you are overwhelmed with emotional stress - sometimes doing a physical relieve helps immensely. I listen to classical music, and have lots of silence in my life. I mean, lots of silence. I got to the point, where ANY emotion - even a good one, would overwhelm me. That is why I would read books, go for way less stimulation. I was absolutely desperate though, because sleep was severely impacted by hives. I would feel like I had burning thorns pressed into my flesh all night, and they were itchy. Mostly, I couldn't sleep. Again, I recommend prayer. At first, I got so angry that I couldn't sleep!! Ohh, girl I was angry!! That was a vicious cycle there. I also, began to fear sleep like food, because I knew I couldn't and it was "I am not ready for a whole night of torture again!".
I used to have pretty severe monster face. Even the pic I posted, my hubby was like, "I think your face might have been swelling" I would have my eyes, lips swell etc etc, but if your tongue starts tingling call 911 NOW! Also, if your throat starts tingling, do not pass go call 911. I had it for so long, and yet it only happened once and I had to get an adrenaline shot in the ER.
Also, only allergy Dr.'s seem to "get" the pain of hives, my regular Dr. would be "oh, you are probably stressing"... yeah, and then when they finally cleared up, "Oh, you must not be stressing". If you asked my hubby, he and I would both say "the hives ARE the stress". Allergy Dr's get the constant stress of it, GP's don't. I guess because they usually treat acute cases. Like, less than a week. Allergy Dr.'s are long term.
While I was a nightmare case, my great niece who I was sore distressed to see had severe hives as a toddler (poor baby - she is my hero! She stayed sweet, upbeat, and optimistic!) It has been 3 years since she has seen a hive. Praise be to God! My mother in law, who had them as a child into her adulthood - and her case was not as severe as mine - has not have hives in 15 years! So, I think I was unusual in the constancy of the hives, usually it is a come and go sort of thing. With some nice long breaks. (((super hugs))) I hope something in here will help you until you get to the allergy Dr! I also, hope it isn't very severe or you figure out if you have a trigger.5 -
I thought this might help others who also need to keep this simple! My two best advice sentences, that two different people posted:
🥚🐇 "The best exercise is the one that you will do" This was when I started diligently walking.
🥚🐇 "The best diet is the one that you can stay on" Whether that means, deficit or maintenance.3 -
@jazzadesigns I forgot about the caffeine, if you are working chances are caffeine is a pretty normal part of your day. That can do some weird hivey stuff with the blood vessels, so if you can start weaning yourself off of it (please don't hit me!!) that might also be helpful. I recommend weaning vs. cold turkey because of the symptoms of cold turkey - that alone might make hives worse. Slow and steady!3
