SORRY KELLY! Glad you were able to eat and then get your fireworks in anyway!
And SO glad they're over for the year. Now we wait until NYE!
Getting ready to head to Ohio tomorrow. Called the stadium yesterday and, YES, they do have handicapped seating with an overhang that's slightly shaded. They've put my name in for that. And I can bring my neck fan as long as it fits in an NFL-approved carry-in. (so I bought on... arriving this morning...LOL) NOW, I can get truly excited.
See ya tomorrow before we leave.

Good morning ladies!
I had a nasty surprise this morning. Last night my sister texted me about her upcoming visit. She asked about bringing two grandchildren and their pregnant mother. I said it made me very nervous, not enough adult supervision, not to mention fleas in the pullout couch.
So this morning she calls my mom and says they might all be coming. Of course mom says wonderful, because she doesn't do the childcare or the cooking. And she is a little addled anyway.
The younger kid is three, the older might be
seven. It's too much for me and my poor dog. And it hurts to have my opinion requested then disrespected. She is the only sibling I have left, but I don't need this.

Allie – I’m so sorry for your friend

Last night got some very disturbing news but it is hush, hush for now. Seems the building where we take ceramics has been sold. Someone thought I was the Michelle who was in charge of the ceramics and she told me that the class she was taking was canceled after July. Well, the Michelle in charge asked me not to say anything but she expects to be open until October. Since she’ll continue working, they’re looking for another place for ceramics. I would think that it will be closed at least for a few months because any other place they found, they’d probably have to redo the electric to accommodate the kilns and the room where she sprays the acrylic painted items has heavy-duty ventilation. Now I know why she hasn’t been ordering any more paint! Well, I need some paint so I ordered it. I’ll probably give any remainder to her.
When I ordered the paint, it cost $3 but the shipping was $4. However, if I drove there I would certainly spend more in gas so I ordered it shipped here.
Off to bowling

Anne - What a drag. But you know your mom doesn't fully understand what she did. How long are they coming for? I would stay around for a day or two and then tell sister since she is here to help cover the needs of OUR parents I am going to take a few days away as a desperately needed break, and go to a hotel or friend's with the pup for a few day break. AKA respite care!
Another option is to sit down and look at the list of meals needed and tell sister that there are x number of dinners, and you will provide y number and you need her to do the remainder. You've mentioned that Mom buys alot of food so you could say Sis there is stuff here to make xy or z if you don't want to have to do too much shopping.
Boundaries as so much easier to write than to do, but with out them it is easy for folks to walk all over us.

Lanette Joan McDonald is fabulous! I follow her Instagram account! She’s an amazing woman. I’ll get the Kindle version of ‘Strong Women Stay Young’ - Thanks to you and Barb for the info!!
Pip OOhmygosh I adore those scooters!! I love vintage and antique everything.
Beth Happy Belated Birthday!!
Tracey The fireflies love humidity. They need a wet winter, wet spring and lots of heat and humidity! What a nice memory of your childhood. I could almost see it. Btw- That picture is adorable!!
DvineLvine Love your strength! I enjoy a glass of wine but I too limit myself. Firstly for the calories and secondly because I never want to succumb to relying on it to soothe my stress. I have a family history (Dad’s side / not Dad) that had a dependency on it. Better safe than sorry.
Sue Our outside working cat, Pumpkin (She came with the house and will not cross into the house to save her life) is missing after the 4th. We have people down the hill and a mile over that did a ton of fireworks. The people a mile behind also did them. She gets spooked at her own shadow so I know these did a number on her. Praying I see her soon. It’s been two days and that’s her max. Crossing my fingers!!
Heather I hope you and DH are on the mend! take care.
Machka I hope the new job goes well and you enjoy it! You never quite know what to expect so I get it.
Lisa Lisa - UGH - A root canal is the worst. Sometimes a pocket of air or dry root happens. Hoping that isn’t the case! Feel better soon.
Rebecca Great pics! Intermittent fasting is what I do too. Although lately I’ve noticed if I opt for the cheese-less Egg McMuffin I do better overall with calories. I still do it 3-4 times a week!
Annie Great for you and your mom for going to the memory appointment. My Dad has been doing alright lately but he has those days. Regarding the fam coming… be honest! See if they can stay in an Airbnb or hotel.
RvRita Oh I’m happy for you going! I truly need to set some time up and go. I have a lot of baggage and well it needs unpacking!
KJ Kelly That pic is gorgeous! Looks like a fun time! hope your crew gets over Covid asap. It’s never fun.
Michele Sorry you may lose your ceramics outlet for a bit. It’s like meditating to me. I haven’t done it in years but I have fond memories.
Whew!! I think I’m caught up! The fourth was nice but there was a little family drama. My mom had been slowly becoming crabbier and I finally just had to say something. We didn’t talk until the next day but ultimately she’s reeling from a loss of their financial freedom (Dad made great money but worked until he was almost 80 as an Environmental Consultant / Engineer.) They didn’t save so now it’s just social security. Plus she has gone from running a home to not having one. It’s all wearing on her and I get it. I hugged her and we both said sorry for getting snippy. I asked her to try hard not to take it out on everyone and she said she would definitely try harder. She also has my sister (58 and 11 months older than me) who has learning disabilities and my Dad who is starting to show signs of slowing down. Mom is 80 going on 30. Lol
Overdid my calories yesterday by 200 but logged it and am still feeling great about food and losing.
Take care all!

Good morning ladies!
Annie - I have a hunch you feel like you're at the tipping point, and don't need one more thing to deal with. Let them come. If the kids get covered with fleas, things get crowded and uncomfortable, it's not like they weren't warned. I don't know your relationship with your sister, perhaps she's judgmental and will criticize the job you are doing. I'm crossing fingers it will be positive experience.
Katla - is your DH home? I hope he's doing much better and your kids visit is productive. Bet he's glad to see them!
Driveway update:My sweet young friend has a young relative(36) who just started his own business hauling rock and doing driveways. He came out yesterday and he's got the job! He can do it all, at a very reasonable price. He worked in the county road shops for years so is taking into account the regrading, drainage, etc. Oh my gosh, he's the grandson I never had, lol. "Farm kid" skills too. He's on the possible list for handyman jobs. Anyhow it should be done by the end of August. I am very, very grateful.
Walking buddy update:Her knee replacement surgery is scheduled for tomorrow. Her husband has been ill, having reaction to Ozempic - injectable med for diabetes (sick at both ends, losing weight like mad for the past week). The pharmacy hasn't been able to get one of the painkillers she will need. Her fridge is on the blink.
Lots of stuff piling up for her. I told her I'd help if I could but it might be a good idea to check into home health care today and see about getting someone lined up in case her husband is still ill. I can pick up food at the store for her but I'm not a nurse. I know she wants to get the surgery over with, but I wonder if the surgery center will even approve her to go ahead with it if they are aware of his illness and he's not on the mend by tomorrow. Crossing fingers and saying some prayers for them.
When she was telling me about it this morning while we were walking, it gave me the willies, lol. I really wanted to say "sit down and put me in charge!" Flashback to when I had to become very assertive with the doctor and pharmacies and even DH to get things done for him. I became adept at being a "squeaky wheel".
OK that's the news for now. Thankfully no booming last night and it was a good night for sleeping.
Make it a wonderful day!

Off to the dentist in 15 minutes, and guess what--the tooth has stopped hurting. The blessed thing has hurt every waking minute for the last week and more, and now it's not hurting. I'm going anyway. It's just annoying.
Talking to my doc tomorrow, too. My resting heart rate has gone up in the last 30 days from 74 to 84, and while Fitbits aren't necessarily terribly accurate, the changes usually are legit.
Katla - I think about you and your dear husband and children every day. I hope all is going well.
Later y'all,
Love,
Lisa in AR4 -
Lisa - hope your dentist finds out it's just a jangled nerve that unjangled itself. Your resting heart rate-any new meds? Glad you are talking to your doc about it. Sending best wishes on everything! Hope Corey is having a great time. Had to smile at his minimal packing, lol.
Kim- loved your advice to Annie. Sometimes we all need reminders about boundaries. You said it so well.
Leslie- I think you must be my younger sister. I'm also 5'9", when I weighed 145 I wore a size 12, looked and felt pretty darn good. That was in my 40's and early 50's. (I am 70 now and seem to do best at 160 to 165 lbs). I had gotten as high as 200 in my life, was constantly on Weight Watchers which kept it in check. Awesome you are following Joan McDonald.
I have also been doing Intermittent Fasting for a few years, started with Michael Mosley's 5:2, then became aware of Gin Stephens and Delay, Don't Deny and Fast, Feast Repeat. I now following Graeme Currie's The Fasting Highway FB group. It's small and I like the enthusiasm and support. I do anywhere from 14 to 16 hr clean fast per day. I need to eat enough protein, I hadn't been if I only have a 6 hr feeding window. Don't count calories, but focus on nutrition and continually battle evening snacking. Proud to say I walked past the cookie, bakery, and ice cream isles at the store yesterday. But I DID glance to see if any of Kim's root beer ice cream bars were there at Safeway, lol. My DH lived on ice cream bars like that during the last couple years of his life so they aren't that appealing to me. But I wouldn't mind trying ONE of the root beer bars one of these days, lol.
Anyhow, glad you were able to talk it out with your mom. You and your DH are very nice opening your home to your parents and sister, and I am impressed at your understanding of how their situation affects your folks emotionally.
OK, defrosting and cleaning DH's little beer fridge which had been living in the shop and is covered with dust and cat hair. Will move it into the garage unless my walking buddy needs it then can wheel it down the street.
I don't drink beer anymore but saved a few cans to make beer bread.
Onward and upward!

Hi Gals,
A few things I forgot!
Beth -
Heather – and Johnny – take care! Hope you have “quick”Covid…
For those of you in the states and have access to Safeway, and have a sweet tooth….. I have re-committed to logging but know I have to save some calories for a sweet now and then or I act stupid and eat a quart of ice cream a whole pie…. Or something else stupid… So I am in Safeway and looking at the choices and I found an ice cream bar called a rootbeer float. It is vanilla icecream with a coating of creamy frozen root beer…. 95 calories and amazing. It is Safeway’s signature brand.
Sending love to all.

thanks Kim- I will have dh pick a pack up when he is at work tonight. I have had them before but not for a while. I don't eat too much ice cream, not because of the calories but because a few bites and extreme chest pains,(unless I have a cup of hot tea with it. Ate a few bites of straw berry milk shake from Wendy's at MIL's but didn't have tea- I really hurt for a while after).
These are something everyone would enjoy. I will also have him check the orange ones.
I was really craving sweets last night over at her house(my night to MIL sit) and nothing there.
Trying to catch up- 5 pages to read.
Fireworks were absolutely crazy here- the people behind us were setting huge ones off right over our house and the eucalyptus and juniper that line the fence- I think they stopped around 2-3AM(I don't remember now) They were going off all around us.
Been very busy. Lots of "sitting"
Pet sitting for my friend since Saturday morning- twice a day
MIL sitting-over at her house at least every day, sometimes hours at a time, sometimes just to walk the dog, other times overnight.
kid sitting- my daycare girl- I have been taking her with me to walk the dog some mornings, this morning she went with me to take care of friend's pets.
MIL is doing better. We did get into it Monday-wanting a pity party for herself- DH and I weren't doing enough or something- first said she wished he would bring the gun back so she could kill her dog and herself, then said she was going to go to the police station or back to the hospital. All because I started prepping the meal she wanted but did it before she wanted- said I was pushing her. I usually am calm but not so much this time. Didn't yell but told her she needed to be more grateful for all we are doing and she needs to let dh get some rest- she wants him to do stuff every time he starts to rest.
Last night she got up twice to use her commode chair by herself- I heard her, pretended to be asleep and she was fine doing it on his own.
Dh has set up cameras to keep an eye on her when he isn't there(on his short shifts). I thought she would get upset about them but I was wrong, she likes having them. It was a bit creepy last night when I was jogging in place(needed to get my 10,000 steps so I didn't break the 11 day streak) and I hear him counting 1,2,3, 4, 5... I had no idea he was at home and watching. I did see the camera come on in the night, he was checking in. This will help ease his mind a bit when he is at work.
I also saw a big issue with the two of them- they are both so narcissistic- of course, neither see it in themselves. If you don't agree with them, you are wrong, everything about them. Two of them together is toxic.
tonight after Ezie goes home, I will do the pet sitting for the last time on my way to the park for Zumba.
Off tomorrow but need to meet dh at the mechanic at 9(at first he said 8 but told him no, not on my day off) then over to his mom's to walk the dog- I will walk a little longer tomorrow beings I don't have to rush home for any of the other stuff.
Ok- enough rambling- time to try and catch up on everyone's posts.

Allie--Sorry to hear about your friend Jay. Sending prayers for you and his family.
Anne--So sorry your sister didn't respect you and about this visit. When are they coming and staying for how long?
Leslie--I do hope your cat has returned. I am so glad the fireworks are over.
We had more rain during the early morning and when I was coming into work at 0530. Glad as we needed it. Just not the 99-100 degree afternoons.
I got 3 apps for my open job. Don't have a lot of hope. One from New Orleans. Not sure why they sent me that one, but our HR is out of state. The other two haven's worked in hospital before and not kept any job very long. But I have set up interviews the next couple days. I am praying for someone dependale .

You’ve mentioned multiple times you need a break but don’t know how you’ll ever get one. Here is a break dropped in your lap. Book something for you and Teddy and get away while you can. Even if it’s a staycation in a hotel in your own city, it’s a break from all parental responsibilities. Your sister is there to spend time with the parents so let her. Take care of you.

Oakie ~ You give such practical advice that others would never think of. I really admire that!
Carol in GA4 -
Well, I texted my sister and asked what part of my concerns sounded like an invitation to bring the grandchildren? She said it was a misunderstanding that I never said no don't come. Now She has told them not to come.
Which is sad but better than having a disaster. Or a fight. So I stood up for myself and my needs for once but I still feel bad about being the one to say no.
I will consider a night away. I don't leave the house much anymore so it sounds both exciting
and frightening. But you all are right, a break would be good.
Thanks for all your support, I don't know how I would get through this without you all in my pocket!

So ... you've announced it all over the internet??2 -
Michele - like Machka I cringed when you said "hush, hush" and then announced it. We all need to remember that this is NOT a private chat we have no idea who is watching and reading every post.
Kim1 -
Because I really want us all to be aware from this forum I could probably figure out 9 of your street addresses, I could also glean first names, DH names, and in many cases last names which makes googling your info so much easier. And then the dates you are leaving and returning from home for vacation. We have become comfortable and as a result not as careful as we should have been. it's easy to assume that no one has the time to scroll through our rambles and get info, but computer programs can be written in moments to do just that.
