I seem to have picked up a summer cold from somewhere, feeling a bit off today. It started at the Theatre on Wednesday evening watching Pricilla Queen of the Desert - which was brilliant by the way, the costumes were spectacular (wish I could have taken a photo to show you) I have a cough, sore throat and no energy. Negative for Covid, thought I would test to be on the safe side, don't want to be infecting others.
It's back to normal temperature here thank goodness. We haven't had any of the predicted rain and thunderstorms so far. I think I heard that the reservoirs are getting dangerously low, but I am sure that is normal for this time of year.
Michele Good news about the tumour
Flea Sorry to hear about your mums health problems
Sorry, more I wanted to comment on, but my brain is a bit foggy.
Take care and love to all

This morning was our last dog walk on the beach by the Gold Beach Airport. Tumble got so many stickers enmeshed in her long fur, it took the entire trip home for me to get most of them out. Next nail trim trip we’ll walk the dogs in the local park, if I can’t persuade Joe to drive up to the Ophir beach. Much better- all sand, no stickers. (edited. Have always called the round spiky seeds "cockleburs" but googling see an unfamiliar plant with different seeds, so now I don't know what to call them.)
Rebecca thanks for the bean salad and cabbage ramen tips. I portion out my brown rice into little snack baggies then put them all in a larger freezer bag then into the freezer for when needed. the lavender field picnics pics and Athena’s switch plate. Brava! Katla ((hugs)) can you FaceTime or Skype with DH on your phones? Praying your DH is soon strong enough to travel to be near you.
Heather scary dizzy spell. You ARE the dream resource for your grands, lucky kids! Yes please do be kind to yourself. You are still recovering from both the cruise and Covid.
Vicki what you said about this group. Amen, sister, amen!
Lanette thanks for the Greek beans recipe. Will try it with the garbanzos I have on hand and arugula instead of dill And yes, you’re right. C leaving means updating my “Just in caes” binder. Trusting that someone else will appear is not easy but what else can we do? :} Joe has to mow before 10 am due fire season restrictions. Neighbors can’t complain, we’re all in the same boat.
Flea the pic of your pooch and the watering wand. ((hugs)) and prayers for your mom and you. Sometimes crying together is not just the only but the best thing you can do.
Michele are you interested in joining the lunchtime yoga class? Thankful for the good news that things are stable and don’t need to be re-checked for 3 years.
Tracey we all need mental health days from time to time. Good for polishing resumes too…
Sue those running and turning questions on the PT eval always make me laugh.
Rori “everyone’s favorite mister” Thanks for the Killer Queen tribute band recommendation.
Allie could just picture Miles “swimming” in his baby pool
Suebdew “cooled DOWN to 112"? How did the checkup go? ((hugs))
Viv hope you feel better soon.
Welcome @or3s3sl1m Cindy from New Zealand!
Avocados: Will look for the diced avocados. Whole large avocados are $2.50 each here, smaller ones $1. Little ones in bag always seem to be bruised and brown inside. Maybe I leave them to ripen next to the apple on our fruit tray too long. If I catch them in time they keep ok in the fridge until cut. Now I’m hungry for avocado.
Vacations: Had two stellar vacations with Mama alone, Disneyland when it first opened (I was in second grade and got to skip school, a one time deal). Then, when I was 17, we went to New York City. Otherwise our vacations were going to St. Louis and Kansas City to visit aunts, uncles, cousins every other summer. Had my first birthday on the train (Papa worked for Railway Express so he rode for free and Mama for half fare). Then, when I was old enough, we went by car. Mama and Papa always planned a side excursion on the way, Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, Royal Gorge, Mojave and Painted Deserts, something. I remember Route 66 well. We always stayed with relatives, only in motels en route. Nowadays I prefer to stay in local hotel when visiting kin, but kinda miss the late night chats around the kitchen table. I do NOT miss St. Louis in August in an un-airconditioned brick house. Sometimes I had to sleep in the bath tub it was soooo hot.

Good morning ladies!
Here's the Greek Bean Salad recipe if anyone is interested. I left out Olive oil in my previous post. And, you can add avocado ( I don't, because this dish lasts me several days and I don't want to risk the avocado turning brown.) I found the original recipe here (modified it a little for my own taste) https://the2spoons.com/vibrant-greek-bean-salad/GREEK BEAN SALAD
INGREDIENTS
1 - 15 1/2 oz cans Cannellini Beans, rinsed and drained
kosher salt and ground black pepper to taste
1 medium garlic clove, finely minced
1/2 small red onion, halved and thinly sliced or 2 sliced green onions
1 to 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil, plus more to serve
1 ripe avocado, halved, pitted, peeled and cut into 1/2 inch pieces - OPTIONAL
1/4 cup lightly packed fresh flat-leaf parsley, torn if large OR 1 tsp dried
1 T cup lightly packed fresh dill, chopped OR 1 tsp dried
1 tsp grated lemon zest, plus 1 tsp lemon juice
INSTRUCTIONS
In a large microwave-safe bowl, cover and microwave on high until hot, 1 to 2 minutes, stirring half way through. (I halve the recipe - 1 can beans, etc - and heat only 30 seconds, stir, then another 30 seconds. Longer than that in my microwave makes them explode.)
To the hot beans, add the garlic, onion, vinegar, oil, salt & pepper, toss to combine. Let stand until cooled to room temperature, about 30 minutes, stirring once or twice.
Stir the beans once again, then stir in the avocado, parsley, dill and lemon zest and juice. Taste and season with salt and pepper. Transfer to a serving bowl and drizzle with additional oil.
Makes 3 to 4 servings.

Jake's daughter and her family are coming to town as part of their vacation which will be primarily two weeks in a rented house on Vancouver Island. Jake and his daughter talk on the phone every week but otherwise we have very little relationship with any of them. Her sons are 11 and 13. They say they have lots of vacation things to do while they're here but Jake wants our schedule clear in case they want to spend time with us. So it will be several days in limbo.
Welcome,Cindy from New Zealand tell us about yourself and join the conversation.
Allie, It's too bad that you're not a reader. I had a hard time sleeping last night so I was able to finish the book I was reading on my phone and start a new one.
We've made changes in what we eat, but we still stay with a small pool of regular foods. It cuts down on decision fatigue and makes grocery ordering much simpler.
Katla, I know you're taking it one day at a time with your husband so far away and you building a new nest for the two or you near your kids and grandkids.
Jake and I worked in the yard together yesterday and several neighbors came by and we invited them into the yard for a visit. One had a dog but Bessie wasn't interested.

Pressure washing the rug done. The rug inside is the after pic. Got on my hands n knees to scrub it, flipped it over pressure washed it, flip it back and sprays some more. Took 2 hours. Done by 9am and was able to get it inside before sunset. Can’t tell the difference on pictures, but I can see it . Came out pretty good.

Poor Tracy was in tears when I got here..
Miles is learning how to work things like going to sleep being put in his porta crib, then waking right up so mom will hold him.
So nobody gets sleep
Tracy started this so she could feed on demand, and now Miles knows how to work the system..
I told Tracy now that the weekend is here its time for him to start sleeping in his crib and learning to self soothe..
Tracy doesn't want to stress Kyle out during the week because he needs the sleep because he is the one working full time.
So hopefully they can get him under control and learn to sleep on his own.

Barbara yes St. Louis summers are beastly. We are in for a hot humid day today. Highs in 90's. Not as bad as other parts of the country.
Watering gardens daily. Hopefully we will get a meaningful rain tomorrow.
DrewB seems to be perking up under her new diet and supplements. She has more energy and her eyes are brighter.

Barbara AHMOD: OPB radio ran a story about Gold Beach this week, and I felt silly that I had never figured out that back in the 1840s there was gold washing up on the beach. It was a fun story of gold rush, boom town, and hidden treasure. If you missed it, I'm sure you can listen to it on OPB 's website.
Re: stickers. Are they goathead thorns? We had them in Kansas, and they are pesky and painful. Your description reminded me of them.

Fun day planned today. This is our next to last summer Friday off of work. I am heading up to Portland on my own for an afternoon at the art gallery, then watching Hadestown. I have a terrific seat, splurged on it since by time I went to get tickets there were only single seats here and there. Hubby was relieved since it's not his thing. But I listen to and sing the score obsessively. I have a hotel room for the night over the river in Washington then I will head up to see my mom Saturday morning.
Hamilton is coming to Eugene in September, so I offered to take my youngest. Hamilton is his favorite, and while we've seen the telecast and listened to the music a lot, we haven't seen it live. He is excited about that.

Hello, all...
Egg was on my lap, and I finally got her to go to sleep deeply enough that I could get the flea/tick drops on her. She's a canny little kitten, and does not approve of anything or anyone touching her if it's not her idea. She woke up just as I finished, shot me a dirty look and headed outside. It will be a bit before she's willing to come back on my lap, but that's OK, I've got plenty of cat hair to be going on with...
Utilities - semi-boring even to me:I'm procrastinating calling the gas company and the electric company. These are, without a doubt, the worst "leveling" bill systems I've ever seen. In other places, bill leveling helped tremendously to keep us on a budget. They averaged out the whole year of billing so customers knew about what their utilities were going to be because they were the same each month.
Here, they're using it to issue smaller bills in one season and more than double those bills in another season. Unfortunately, the gas and electric (completely different companies) each put their highest billing in the summer. I ended up being billed for $180 with both combined in the winter and over $500 this month for both. That isn't "leveling."
On top of THAT, because they're futzing with the amounts in a very non-transparent way, we can't tell if our actions affect the bill or not. Like, does keeping a wood fire going in the fireplace diminish the gas bill? Does hanging clothes on the line help diminish the electric bill?
I do hate staying on hold and talking to people about these things, but I'm girding my loins as I write this. I have a feeling that it's going to cost me money to change.
I did the elliptical again, 12 minutes this time, bumped up from 10 on Wednesday. I actually broke a light sweat but felt good throughout, so the baby steps are working. Not trying to kill myself, just trying to get my heart working better and get me feeling better overall.
Nearly eight hours sleep last night is also making me feel all spiffy, so I think I'll go accomplish something.
Later y'all,
Love,
Lisa

Next chapter on Jake's daughter's visit. They arrived in town last night. This morning Jake realized that there's no way he can go to Hurricane Ridge in the Olympic Mountains. He can barely breathe at sea level and has no business going to higher elevations. When he spoke to his daughter this morning, she reported that she is going nowhere and is in a terrible panic because her husband didn't pack her passport. She has a plan to have a friend go to her house, get the passport, and overnight mail or express it to her at our house. She and Jake may get together later for a visit or a drive. I'll be dancing with my friend and far from the drama.

Barbie - family drama or dancing with a friend - no brainer! heck I'd take cleaning the commode over family drama any time!!!! Great choices made.

Hi Gals,
Pip – the rug looks great!
Lisa – we have the option of “leveling” too, and even the description in their marketing info makes it sound like they can pay fast and loose with how much they’ll charge – I have steered clear! Your experience makes me glad I have…. Good luck getting out of it.
I took yesterday off and with a friend went to the beach, she is an older member of my garden club, so I did the driving and she bought lunch. The N. California pacific ocean in the summer is often overcast (fall is usually beautiful) and yesterday was that, but we stopped and walked the beach, set up chairs and watched the water – nothing like the crashing waves, sea birds, and laughing kids that are not yours to let your troubles go!
Sending love to all.

Therapy went well, she changed up meds a bit. Upped one lowered another 2. Next visit in a month.
ENT went well too. Stopped 2 allergy pills nasal rinses down to 2 a day. Hourly rinses changed to as needed. Recheck in a month. Healing well.
Now vent:
Received an unexpected amount from the state last night (fuel rebate). I proceeded to catch up some bills but DH decided he wanted to go shopping. Money all gone from that. He spends so much on unnecessary things. He acts like we will never get a paycheck again. Then proceeded to get mad b/c money is all gone! I wonder why!!!! Blames me for spending and a lot of other things, like his not being able to find clothes or whatever he is looking for but does let me clean/ organize his junk. Aggravating!!! ( his alcoholic dementia is part of it but still makes me angry!)
That’s enough for now.

Debbie--Glad to hear you are cutting back on DMIL time.
Michele--Great news on the tumor.
Flea--I do hope you enjoy your day.
Lisa-- We have our lights and gas on budget and they figure it just after the first of the year. Last year our gas almost tripled and lights went down $10. I agree I like knowing what we have to pay each month and they are set payments our of account.
Kim--Your visit to the beach sounds like a great way to spend the day.
Rita-- I can relate. DH lets me pay the bills and he just spends and when we get a little extra he expects it to last forever. Right now I am trying to get a couple things paid off and yesterday I come home and he gives me the estmate to get new tires. I just lost it and said just where do you think this money is coming from. We are living paycheck to paycheck right now with all the doctor bills for the last year. He says well not until this Fall just getting some prices. I keep trying to get him to set down with me and go over the bills, but he only does it when I yell and threaten to just give it all to him and let him figure it out. Hope the med changes help. Great news at the ENT office.
Well didn't get much sleep last night. Just before midnight a storm went by and the thunder shook the house and Kia went nuts. Running all over the house barking. Took awhile to get her settled down. It is Friday and I will have 50 hours in this week when I check out today. They do have things set up for the new person to start Aug 8th. Fastest I have ever seen it done, but then I was blunt with them about the sooner the better.
Enjoy your weekend and try and stay cool. To reach over 100 tomorrow. Not sure I will be stepping outside for any reason. On Monday we are going to my cousin's funeral. He passed from a sudden heart attack. Did not realize he was Jehovah witness so kind of stressed about the funeral. Don't want to do something wrong and upset the family.

goat head burrs are terrible!!! popped many bike tires when we were kids.
didnt get much sleep. Between dh home to grab a shower before going to work at midnight, PGE calling me while I was asleep, to tell me my electricity was off(thanks for waking me up to tell me that-was only off 8 min or so, from the amount of time the stove clock was off), the cats either jumping on me or sleeping so close and leaving no room for me.
Went and walked Kobe- almost canceled but glad I went. I am fine once I start, just hated getting up early.
Have my daycare girl
Walking the wetlands with a friend again tonight.
Making chicken satay for dinner- never tried it or made it- hope it is good. It is just the sauce pack that you add your own veggies and meat. Will make rice to go with it. Beings dh won't be here, I will make brown rice instead because that is what I like better.
Have a wonderful weekend

I’ve had a tough go for a while. DH has been in an assisted living place after surgery. We’re hoping he will get enough better to come to our daughter’s place where I’ve been staying for a while. This is a long distance from our home.
When I mention our home, I sometimes say that I miss it & DD is unhappy hearing about
it. She wants us to be here and happy. We’re all having some adjusting to do.10 -

I've been doing DDP Yoga for five weeks now, along with focusing on macros and shooting for 1200 calories per day. Getting enough protein (circa 95g per day as per my age) is not easy, but I just switched to a pea protein powder that has 25g per scoop, so that will help a lot. My calorie intake is mostly on point, but I'm still overdoing it on the carbs. But, that will even out eventually as my diet gets more settled. I've been consuming a lot of smoothies - so it's a good thing I like them, lol! I've lost about four pounds so far, so that's on target. And I can tell I'm getting stronger and more flexible, with some muscle development beginning to show. It will be interesting to see where my stats end up when I finish the DDPY beginner series.

I was invited to the fair today to be the baby snuggler for my daughter’s friend.
It was very easy to say yes. It was a great day with the girls, but the fair was extremely disappointing.
I tried the levelling of utilities once and it was terrible. I was very fortunate that it was a new thing at the time and we only had to sign in for a year and could change back if we chose to.
I think they had “underestimated” ours by $600 and that was hard to come up with all at once.
Vicki and Rita - I’m with you on hubby’s that like to spend. Although Im fairness I’m doing too much of it too right now.
Tomorrow I am going to a demo derby and then spending the night at my daughters house with both of my girls and the same other girls I was with tonight. I am so blessed to be invited to their outings and included in their lives so often. I do not take it for granted and never say no to anything I’m invited to.
