10 miles this morning. Since marathon training starts tomorrow, and it starts off pretty light on mileage, I thought I should take it a little easy today. It wasn't very easy in this heat, but it was significantly shorter than the usual weekend long run.

So far Mom is doing pretty good. She is still at my sister's house and my sister is feeling ok too. They have scheduled an infusion for tomorrow so hopefully that will help. We are just hoping to be able to keep her at home and not need to take her to the hospital.
I took today as a rest day. I am hoping to get up early enough tomorrow to get a long run in. There is really no beating the heat right now, but if you can beat the sun it does help.

@kgirlhart I’m sorry about all of the recent stress. I hope your mom and sister aren’t affected too much by the COVID and that your mom can recuperate at your sister’s home.

I missed my run on Thursday after I found out a close friend (age 41) had a stroke and emergency heart surgery. The doctors were not expecting him to make it through the surgery, so I was waiting for news.
I did get out yesterday morning and did my interval run: 5 min Z1, 5 min Z2, 10x (1 min Z5, 2 min Z1), 5 min Z1 - for a total of 3.27 miles. I went out last night for 2.11 very slow miles to somewhat make up for missing Thursday.
This morning, I went to RIPPED at the gym and then did my 45 min Z1 recovery run on the indoor track. My friend went around with me for about 20 minutes. I ended up with 2.22 miles.
Tomorrow's long run is 18 miles. I'm going to try to get up early (like 4:30ish) so I can get most of the run finished before it is too hot.

I’ve been sampling randomly, basically choosing runs based on a distance that matches my plan and it being a recovery or long run so the paces are steady and not too fast. My random sampling has definitely led me to a heavy favorite though. I love Tommy Rivs! He talks throughout the run about all kinds of things. Running tips, history and politics of the country we are in, details about why the landscape looks the way it does, etc. Informative and entertaining. He also doesn’t waste a lot of time building up to the run or doing a huge cooldown. The treadmill does that for you so it doesn’t need to be a part of the run. Just a really good fit for my running personality.

@eleanorhawkins That run definitely earns pizza! Great work. I was talking to my husband after reading your post. My husband is great and supports my running and all that so reading that comment about your hobby ruining your husband’s weekend really made me sad. It would hurt my feelings so much if he ever said something like that to me. I’m glad you have some running buddies IRL and here to share your running fun with!!
@marisap2010 Wow that is so scary! 41 years feels so young to be having those types of health problems. I hope your friend made it out of surgery and recovers.

Last night I tried putting 2 shorter runs back to back again on the treadmill. I used my favorite trainer and it was a much better experience. I think moving forward I need to preview the runs more closely to make sure they don’t have a long warm-up or cool-down and I am learning that some of the trainers just aren’t my cup of tea. Luckily my fav has a ton of runs so I can keep some variety. I really enjoy the guided runs and haven’t had to resort to my TV yet.
Today I got out early-ish for 10 miles. For the conditions I was really happy with my pacing. Most of my miles were in low 11 minute range, a little faster than my easy run pace right now, and still felt good. I had a slow down over the last couple of miles but I think most of that was because the temps were climbing and not so much because of my early pace. Stopped at a few water fountains to put some water over my head because unfortunately not a sprinkler in sight today. Headed out to dinner for my MIL’s birthday tonight with the family.4 -

I'm going to jump into this thread because I'm finally getting back to running. After a lifetime of thinking I didn't like running, about 10 years ago, I decided to give it a shot as a "cheap" way to exercise. A few years ago, I stopped and then life and Covid happened but I kept thinking I needed to go back to running and I finally forced myself to do it.
I'm fortunate enough to live in a community with many miles of trails so I have a great running spot right here. The challenge is that I'm a single mom of 4 and work 2 jobs so I really have to make sure to block off time to run. My goal is to run another half sometime early next year. I'm pretty sure I've convinced my 15 year old son to train with me so I'm excited about that!
I decided to go all the way back to C25K because I loved it the first time around. I don't think I've completely lost it because the first time I did C25K, in the beginning I couldn't run all of the intervals. It was bad. This time, the easy intervals were no problem and I even ran more. I remember how great it feels to do a long run and I want to feel like that again.

Great running @Scott6255 I would love to some day be able to say 10 miles is a short long run. Not sure that will ever happen though.
Thanks @kgirlhart . Glad your mom and sister are doing okay with CoVID. I hope you mom doesn't have to go to the hospital too. Hope you were able to get out early this morning for your long run.
Thanks @marisap2010 . I'm so sorry about your friend's health issues. I do hope he has a full recovery. I also hope you were able to get your long run in on Sat before it got too hot today. You are doing great! Just saw that you did get the 10 miles in but it was hot toward the end. You all that run in those conditions are amazing.
@martaindale It sounds like you are really liking your IFit treadmill and the workouts. You may wind up renewing that subscription for longer than you originally intended.

I was tired and moody yesterday, so just walked a mile on the treadmill to keep my streak going. We'll see what today brings. Right now, I'm thinking another walk and then start my training for the 10 miler tomorrow.

I'm home and trying to decide what to do exercise-wise this week. I've not made a final decision yet about Saturday's mountain 25k race, but suspect I might be a DNS. It depends on how I feel later this week. But even if I do feel good, I haven't been able to train properly, so maybe it's not wise to push myself to do it anyway. Hmmm. Typing that out makes the answer seem more obvious. But I'm still somewhat in denial, hoping that there's still a chance I can do it.
At least a bunch of you are doing awesome things and I can follow along until I'm back doing it myself!

Today's 18 miler was long and crappy ("clappy?", "crong?"- I don't think we have a word yet for it). I was so over it at mile 5 - just not feeling a run at all today. However, I did get in all 18 miles, even though I walked the last 1.5. I don't care how early you get up here, it is always going to be hot and humid here. I was so thirsty but was getting nauseous towards the end from the water sloshing in my stomach with the gu. BTW - the chocolatey gus are not the right ones for hot runs. I ordered a box of the "lighter" fruit ones to use moving forward.

Way to conquer that 18 mile long run @marisap2010! I know it is an epic feat to do those long runs in the summer heat.

Do any of your running partners also have impressive streaks?
Not a daily streak for either of them. However, these are both 'lifetime' runners.
A - 49 years old, running since she was early teens, always physically fit and active
E - 30 years old, highly active, dance, ballet, teaches aerobics at YMCA, Elementary school teacher, all while having 4 children
When I was first asked to 'run' with them, I would decline. I saw them as highly fit and judged myself harshly. One day early on in my running, "A" trotted up behind me and just started talking. I kept making excuses on how slow I was and not fit to run with her. That was over 5 years ago. They can both still run circles around me, but I have them both on endurance.

I relied out just doing a manual run and watching some TV on the treadmill today. It was fine. On the plus side, I didn’t have massive inclines at any point and I could just kind of zone out on the run part. I needed a a super chill run today after a tough 10 miles yesterday and I was struggling to find a guided run that fit the bill. On the down side, I’m pretty sure the entire house doesn’t want to hear my TV show as I’m running. The room I have the treadmill in echoes the TV sound around the whole house. We don’t really use the TV up there very much because of it. Throw in the sound of the fans and the treadmill and it was pretty loud. As much as I’d rather have the larger screen, I may need to use my iPad for tv watching moving forward so I can use headphones and not disrupt everyone else.
My work schedule is such that I actually get to run outside all week next week! And it’s technically the taper week of my HM plan so it’s short runs all week and I am totally ok with that. Like so many of you, I am tired of the heat. Short runs are very welcome at this point!6
