Flea I am so sorry about your friend/colleague's rapid decline.
I had a dear friend Bonnie, who was thought by many to be immortal. Of course she wasn't, and finally died at 97. The crowd at her funeral was overflowing in a large venue. It was heartening to see that at least some elderly people in the USA are remembered & revered even when they outlive most of their peers. I like having friends of all ages. Josephine is my youngest friend, and Bonnie was my oldest until her death.
Terri & Heather I have so enjoyed Terri's amazing poetry, and look forward to any Heather wants to share with us. I think I might have a poet in me somewhere, but would probably need to get more into my right brain to avoid sounding stilted. I am thinking, after reading Barbie's recent comments on meditation, that meditation might be a very good idea for both my creative side and my stress levels.

Friday --
I walked to the post office and when I got there, the beach was calling, so I walked down to the beach.
Then I worked on my garden project.
And after, we went for a bicycle ride.

Good morning ladies,
Do any of you take glucosamine/chondroitin supplements?
If so, are you taking liquid or pills and what's been your experience?
My cleaner, in her early 50's, had hip and knee pain and started taking a liquid formula several months ago and swears it's helping. I started on the same stuff a week ago - I understand it can take weeks for positive effects to show up. So can't really tell right now.
If you have information or opinion on this supplement, I'd love to hear it.

Karen and Lisa - I haven't commented much recently on your trials and tribulations, but I am right there with you. All the stuff you are both going through makes my washing machine drama look pathetic.
Yes, Karen, get that poetry out of you. Just scribble something on the back of an envelope. Lisa - are you blogging yet?
Terri - Yes, do put them together in an anthology. Very satisfying.
I'm writing a little blurb with mine, to describe some of the context, but they could stand alone, grouped by era. The first one in my book, I wrote when I was 7 years old. I can’t remember the first two lines of the last verse.
Spring
Little lambs are frisking,
Yes, it's early Spring;
Jays are calling harshly,
Birds are on the wing.
I can hear the foxes
Howling in their lairs,
Rabbits peep from burrows,
On the fields race hares.

Thanks to God who gave us
Marvellous, glorious, Spring.
I was called up to the teacher's desk because he didn't believe I had written it unaided. He asked me about some of the vocabulary. I thought he was an idiot. My main problem was that I had to write it out for the county magazine with my left hand, because my right hand was badly sprained. It looked like a spider had written it!
My other poems are rather more gloomy!

During my peak cycling (early 2000s), I was cycling between 10,000 and 14,000 kilometres a year. And my knees bothered me a bit so I started taking glucosamine/chondroitin supplements.
It seemed to help.
But at the same time, I also worked on adjusting the fit of my bicycle.
I went off the supplements after a couple years and my knees have remained fine. So I kind of suspect that setting my bicycle up properly might have helped as much or more than the supplements.
The reason I decided to try the supplements was because I had read studies which suggested that they helped arthritic dogs and I figured if they helped dogs, who probably don't experience the placebo effect, they might help me.

Phew!
I've ordered a new washing machine. Just the most basic, because they've gone up quite a bit since our last one, 12 years ago. It's only got a 1400 spin, but there's a couple of hundred pounds difference in the price for the faster one! When I first looked, they had delivery for Wednesday, but, by the time I got to the checkout, the earliest was next Friday. That's OK. The kids are here for lunch, but they might find it interesting! They are fitting it and taking away the old one for an extra fee. They let you know the night before of the 2 hour window.
If there's anything I desperately need for the cruise I can hand wash it before hand, but we will still have a few days for last minute stuff. I'm up to date at the moment.
Feeling mighty relieved. I was thrown for a loop last night.
Still haven't discussed how we are paying for it, but I have put it on my credit card, so we can think about that later!

Katla: I am thinking about you and hope your DH's procedure goes well. Glad you are able to visit him
Carol: Pretty tree, I might get a maple tree.
Lisa: I didn't know gastric bypass could lead to anemia but I guess I can see how it might. I hope these treatments help.
Lanette: I really wasn't aware the air quality was so constantly bad in Washington state.
Margaret Turk: Cheerful picture of flower. I enjoyed it.
Terri: I like a clean sink. I have done Duolingual Mandarin. I study some Mandarin because I like the calligraphy.
Betsy: Lovely picture of a child.
Debbie: Thanks for the links! After I do these posts, I will look at the blankets!
Lisa: Love the picture!
Snowflake: I will get a tire gauge. Candles might be a nice gift!
Kevrit: Love the picture
Heather: I know people who would be very jealous that you get to see your grandchildren so much!
Sorry about the washing machine!
Rebecca: I am thinking about you and hope the gallbladder surgery goes well. I have had my gallbladder out and haven't had any problems.
Machka9: Left to my own I would be the bear! I am up now because I went to bed early enough.
Vicki: Glad you had a nice visit with you grandson!
Michele: My DH and I went on a fudge kick a couple of years ago. We kept ordering it into the house.
We finally got ourselves to stop!
Headed to lunch today. My hair has gotten too long to hold the electric curlers. My long time hair dresser isn't available so I am going to go to a Cost cutter type place and have it trimmed and blown out. Then caretaking the next two days. Maybe we will zoom with DH's brother and do a video call with my mother who lives outside of Boston.3 -
Rebecca I meant to tell you how relieved I am that your problem turned out to be your gallbladder. It can sure cause a lot of agony/misery, but can be dealt with as you know. (((Hugs)))
Heather OK, that is an amazing poem for anyone, but writing a poem of that caliber at the age of 7 is...I can't even think of the right word...it's no wonder your poor hapless teacher thought someone else wrote it. Wow. Just Wow.

We are on the hunt ...
... for the source of a noise somewhere in the back of the van. 🧐🤪
We each have a different opinion on what's causing the noise, and are narrowing the search, but still haven't pinpointed it.
I don't drive very often, so we hear it and then forget about it till the next time we're in the van. But this week, I've been driving a little bit more.

Heather: As your writer's instincts know, THAT is why I tell my favorite people, what I'm doing, so they will nudge me back to what I'm supposed to be doing. I have been procrastinating on writing the blog by designing the blog, and have let the perfectionist in me beat me up because my design skills are rusty and because WordPress has instituted a basic block design that I purely hate and just don't want to learn. I am becoming a cranky old bat. OK, I'll stop whining--I just need to get one of the older themes that are simple, because the design matters not in the slightest, and I need to get writing. Seriously, I wake up and six or seven ideas for posts are slugging it out to be written, and then I just let them leak away.
I'm also having serious issues with distraction at levels I've never experienced. Since I began this post:- Because of your amazing 7-year-old self, Heather, I dug out my old scrapbook my mother kept, because I remembered poems from me at a similar age... and realized I was a stone plagiarist. Kind of early for a life of crime, I'm thinking.
- In the same box was the scrapbook I kept during my first marriage, which I had utterly forgotten I owned. Went through it, of course, and then that went in the bin other than a couple of interesting things. Refused to allow myself to go dig out my "pre-Hannon" pictures and go through them.
- Finished my first cup of tea, made my second, sipping it now.
- Started the second load of laundry from the bathroom, as before I started writing this, I stripped it bare and am bleaching every surface in the shower.
- Restrained myself from going in there to get that finished, and promised Egg I would sit still for a few minutes so she can catch a catnap (Ha! Pun intended.)
- I know Corey will be calling soon, as I was still asleep when he left, so he always checks in between eight and nine a.m. to say good morning.
- My app reminded me that this morning is my Humira injection, so I got that out of the refrigerator to warm up, because it's ouchy if it's too cold. Need to get that done in the next hour, too. Find out they've swapped me from an epi-pen style injection, just push a button, to a syringe-style. It's a really good thing needles don't bother me. Hard to get too cranky with the VA on that one, considering I would be paying thousands of dollars instead of about $30 a month if I had to pay for it.
Oh, and the alarm is going off to remind me that my normal early morning pills need to be taken.
Egg is not amused.
That is a peek at the inside of my brain. Makes me tired just reading it, being inside here is exhausting... I'm going to have to train the writer's brain to work in this chaos. If I can do it here with y'all, I can do it over there.
Anyway, pills to take, perforations to perform, and cleaning to do... Oh, and writing. Of course.
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR5 -

Morning ladies
Here with Mr Miles and he is snoozing away.. today is friday yipee.. im going to try and get stuff done this weekend at my place.. its just out of control..
I will try and get my stamina up to snuff..2 -
Allie - You know I've been struggling with that same exhaustion, but yours is so even more intense. They've got you on the transplant list for a reason, woman! Start listening to your body... when you're tired, sit down. When I have a big job, I break it down and do no more than a few minutes to move it forward, then I sit down. It has made me feel like a flibbertigibbet, but it's not like anyone's watching. Do one thing and sit down. Take care of Allie for a change...
Love you, girlie,

Well I give up. Been trying to catch up after I took care of my Dd after her surgery; amazing how muCh it took out of me. So I am going to start over and hope I didn’t miss too much. I did want to comment on several topics but you all have moved on. So sorry but reading a few pages a day wasn’t getting me caught up.
Stay well and enjoy the autumn.

Karen--It is so sad those other guys have no one looking out for them. But hopfully this will open the eyes of people that can get to the bottom of what that lady was doing and get justice for all the men who lived there. Thank you for doing what needs to be done.
Heather--Sorry to hear about your washing machine. I too was shocked at how much things have gone up, as we were looking at referators a couple months ago and they have almost tripled since we bought our last one. Thank goodness our was able to be repaired and is working fine. But know the time we come when it will have to be replaced.
Katla--Glad you got to spend some time with DH and that he is doing better. Praying he is home with you soon.
Allie--I agree with Lisa, baby steps, take care of yourself.
I am so happy it is Friday. It has been a very stressful week. Tomorrow we have a funeral at 10am in Lincoln which is about 100 miles. The mother of a dear friend passed away. Then Sunday is church and that is all that is planned so far.
Blessings, Vicki GRAND ISLAND, NE where it is 80 degrees today. Crazy weather.7 -
Worked, then they had enough volunteers so I didn’t have to go to the soup kitchen. This afternoon have to get new tires.
Karen – yup, that’s how you make a Cousin It!
Heather – what a pain it is not to have a washing machine! Glad you got a new one
Rosemarie – how did you get you and your husband to stop eating the fudge?
Lisa – what do you use the Humira injection for? When I first read “if I can do it over here, I can do it over there” I thought of Dr. Suess. Shows where my mind is, huh?
We’re supposed to go see Jess tomorrow after I get off work. We’ll stay overnight because she wants us to go to the NC State Fair and the last day of the Fair is the 23rd. So, unfortunately, that means no exercise (boo). But I am planning to go for a walk in the a.m. For one thing, I’ll get to see more of her neighborhood. Hope I don’t get lost….lol
Allie – what is Miles going to be for Halloween
Remember the lady I told you about who was in hospice and recently passed away? Well, just found out her service is the 29th. I was scheduled to lector that day but I’m really afraid that going to the service is cutting it too close to being at the church so I asked if another lady can do it for me.

Thanks ladies for your encouragement. I am still waiting for the Tricare referral nurse to call me, and we organize with the specialists. Its nice to be eating again, foods that keep me warm etc. I was so cold last week on broth's etc. Worried a bit that I haven't had a bm for 3 days, but maybe my body is just using most of my food up? I am peeing much more. My abdominal aches are less than they were before ER visit on Tues. Just trying to eat everything with fiber. This morning I ate Wheat Chex cereal with milk ff, and a splash of some dairy free hazelnut creamer, pretty good!
Its raining off and on on Whidbey today. Husband and I have to dash to the post office so I can put a bunch of eldest sailors mail in a padded envelope.
Thinking of having my veggies soup again with some sauted steak bits, gosh that was good. I love how soup can make you bright and energetic, then warm and fuzzy at the same time.
