2 List 5 things using each of your senses – tea by cheery light, comforting crackling, cozy warmth, woodsmoke= how grateful I am for our cast iron stove and Joe keeping us well stocked with wood.
3 Let go of at least 5 items in your house – yeah, no. Good goal for the month tho’
Yesterday about when I was done with my long post, Joe got up and said “It’s cold!” I was just noticing that too. Turns out the furnace was hot but not blowing any warm air.
Joe immediately turned the thermostat way down and built a fire. That wonderful woodstove had our whole house warm in less than an hour. Miraculously for our (“No Hurry in Curry”) county, the recommended heating company had a crew in our neighborhood and they came the SAME DAY. Fixed the furnace for only $135/part & labor (and a generous tip from Joe.) Wish they did fences, tree work, house cleaning, painting, remodeling . . . ;}
Might invite them back to replace my bathroom’s noisy vent fan with one that is properly vented outside instead of into the attic, and that give the option of turning on the light without turning on the fan. Then onto mildew abatement in the shower ceiling… [sigh]
Welcome @AnneFrewin, @jebogan73 Jane from OH, ShelleyMJ46, @jez6915 Julie from MI and @MutterGans!
@angelaengland473 Ang in UT welcome to you too! Debbie and Machka are recent skin cancer surgery survivors. The last of my 4 surgeries was in 2005. How long ago was yours?
Lanette “…where I ‘hear’ her … and that I need to try to please her.” Ditto. Also heard her laughing all the way down from heaven when we were fostering our teenaged nephew. Payback is.
Rebecca ((hugs)) for your sister and most especially for you.
Debbie Prayers for Destiny and her mom. What a blessing the mom has been able to find something positive (removing the tumor) in them taking out Destiny’s femur.
Pip ((hugs))
Ginny that eye pain sounds scary. ((hugs))
Katla Wonderful news. Doing the happy dance. ((hugs)) to both your DH and you.
Barbie, “…getting them (decluttering books) on audio and listen to them while cleaning…” Now that would be an effective strategy!
Machka what you said about when its dark on the way to work and on the way home. For me it’s when its dark on the way to morning line dance class and on the way home from the evening one. Tonight the darkness felt somehow shocking. The saving grace was that for the first time I could see the Christmas lights Joe put up around the garage as I was driving into our lane.
Karen in VA prayers for Aurora Rose’s safe arrival. Edit! Oh! She’s lovely!!! Hope your DIL’s health improves immediately.
Betsy, Brava!
Heather loved the flowers, especially the poppies. That surprisies me as I usually prefer blues to reds.
Carol prayers for your brother. Can he transfer from that “on the way home” hospital to one nearer to his home?
Margaret, love the “surround those memories with the love for that child…” to pip. Love to you too. And yours to Lisa about the poppies.
Tina good to see you posting again!
Rosemarie ((hugs)) and prayers continue.
Tracey yours to Allie about Tracy and Kyle. Likewise I tiptoed around Joe for ten years, then finally got some helpful counseling. While you’re trying to change your attitude about work, can you re-ignite your job search?
Time to snooze.

Well I accomplished a miracle, I did pick up some stuff in the living room and i brought a basket of things to my friend Trudy .she is going to Antarctica at the end of the month.. i gave her a puffer jacket a telescope lens for her phone, binoculars ,headphones.. she wanted me to go on the trip with her..but was just to much money ..
I did get the invite to my cousin's wedding in Tennessee for March..
We shall see..
To work in Antarctic or for leisure?
The Antarctic headquarters is closed to where we live and I keep toying with the idea of seeing if I could go on one of their short-term work placements.

I'm 57 and finding my self esteem going downhill and also my motivation. I have had several skin cancer surgeries with the most recent on my neck and the scar is very big and ugly at this point. I am on a journey of finding peace from within and living my life being present in all things. Knowing that "All truly is Well" no matter what trial I may have to face. I want to feel good about myself no matter what my physical body may look like but also take care of myself to the best of my ability as well. Finding support and being accountable seem like 2 good steps. It is a "Journey" I know. Hopefully with some new friends along the way.
My word for this year will be "Presence" I hope to find the peace I am looking for
Wishing you ALL the best in this New Year of 2023
Much Love!!

Welcome Ang.
This is a great group of ladies.
I (and another lady here) had melanoma removed three weeks ago. Both of us had it on our noses. The procedures were a little different but we are both healing. Mine, they took the graft from my neck so I too have the big scar on my neck right now. Take it easy and let your body heal.

The other lady would be me. One on my nose and one on my hip. I'm still wearing a bandage on my hip and will until the end of the month.

The jobs are open! We can start applying.

I would probably apply for something in the telecommunications area like the Information Technology Officer.

Machka - I have almost none of that stuff in my house. I'm good at throwing things away and pretty tidy. I do have unworn jewellery and a few too many cake tins etc. We have got rid of thousands of books to the Amnesty shop, but could do with another clear out soon.
Karen - Many, many congratulations on your gorgeous granddaughter. How wonderful!
Tracey - Your post about your marriage brought tears to my eyes. I'm in love with your in-laws! Of course, your husband had to be willing to work at it too.
Lisa - I love all your photos of the family. I really enjoyed seeing you painting with Hayley. Are you going to keep it up?
We have Max here. I decided it would be a good project to make pancakes for lunch. (We were thinking of walking down to the fish restaurant, but the weather is not co-operative.) Pancakes seem like a good option as we can use up the bacon and have other stuff on them. I then remembered that I had used up all the eggs in Monday's frittata! DH and Max went round the corner to buy eggs and milk, and when they came back, I supervised Max making the batter. At least it doesn't have to be gluten free!
Should be a fun lunch as we will have a competition as to who can make the best pancake!
DH and I managed our exercise session this morning by the skin of our teeth as my son brought him round 15 mins early. We have had to forgoe our writing session, but that's fine.
Yesterday, both my son and DDIL came to pick up the kids. They were both absolutely knackered. This moving temporarily to the apartment is proving very hard work. They have to completely empty the ground floor of their house as they are having solid floors laid throughout with underfloor heating. Plus new bathrooms and a whole new extension for the kitchen. Most of the move they are doing themselves, with many trips to the dump, to the apartment, some boxes here, and the final move of the biggest furniture on Thursday. They have a van with three men coming. I'm sure it will be worth it in the end! At least the rental is in a fabulous position, opposite the beach. But much further from the girls' school. They have gone back to school today.
Much love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx5 -
Rori - I loved that 'humbling ' comment. That's how I often feel when life trips me up. I can hardly believe that you have never been to Europe before! You are so well travelled. 💕
Yesterday, I had a go at drawing Max. I used to be terrible at Life-Drawing at school and have barely tried since. As both Max and Bea were occupying my technology, I thought I would give it a try.
Max is on my phone , using the Polish app to make a horrible picture of me. Total concentration! I haven't got the arm and hand quite right.
This is what he was polishing!
So a creative time was had by all.
Love Heather UK xxxxxx

I glanced over the title of this group:.women over 50...and keep forgetting that I'm over 50. Haha. Aside from being tired, I never thought about it My 50th birthday was at the beginning of the pandemic and was a non-event, perhaps that helped. This year I really do plan on getting to that elusive *reasonable* goal weight that seems to have escaped for all but one of the past 30 years. Continuing to work, taking a trip to Everest(!). I picked up rowing last year after just trying out a rower in a gym. Now it's my favorite exercise (Concept2 rower). My arms are stronger, my abs look better and I feel better overall. Happy 2023 to everyone!8

I also like my Concept2 rower, but I haven't used it in a little while.

1 Sit in silence for three minutes... it's harder than you think. Does silently working in the garden count? Done! I sat silently for 7 minutes and prayed.

Good Morning!
I actually slept 7.5 hours! Of course that means we didn't get up on time- oops! Not late, just later. All is good, DH a little grumpy though. Funny thing is we didn't use to get up until 7 (we have to be at work before 9), then I started getting up at 6:30 for some "me" time. Then he started getting up at 6:30. So I started getting up at 6, then so did he........Wicked circle. He is noisy in the morning. TV goes on immediately. No TV this morning but he just turned on the radio. Oh, well...... I got 7.5 hrs! So excited! Some days it is the little things!
Tracey I love your in law story! My DH is the jealous type. It drives me crazy. Last time the jealous monster appeared I just told him that if I wanted anyone else I wouldn't have waited 15 yrs to marry his pain in the *kitten* self! That seemed to cool his jets a little. I wish I had had in laws like yours. Though I reckon his Mom would have been the same if the situation came up.
Heather UK Nice! It took me years to start coloring again because I still hear my mother's voice telling me how to do it!
Allie Prayers for your daughter and SIL and their family. There is a LOT of stress going on there. Our electric rates have doubled also this year. It hasn't hit us yet as we were under contract. But it will get there. It sucks when it comes with no warning and people haven't budgeted for it especially just before winter.
Machka Yes, that is for a month. Craziness!
I had better get off here and get dressed for work. I think the folks might get offended if I went in my birthday suit
Much love, prayers, and hugs for all!
Remember one step at a time!

Oh,
4. My favorite Christmas gift ever was when I was 12 or 13. We were so house poor that it wasn't funny. Nice house on 10 acres, but little else. The oil embargo was happening, utiilty prices were really high, and Alabama got snow. My parents really couldn't afford Christmas gifts. Our church got gifts for us. Mine was a Raggedy Ann doll that smelled like firewood. She had survived a families house fire, was no longer wanted, and she got much love that year. I really appreciated someone's thoughtfulness to give her up for me.

2 List 5 things using each of your senses. Currently: The sound of crickets from the boys sound machine in their bedroom, the smell of grass and fresh air from the open window, the blue/white glow of my laptop screen in the dark dining area, the taste of coffee, the scritchy feel of a tag on my shirt (that I will be changing out of soon)
3 Let go of at least 5 items in your house. I am not home right now, but my linen closet is going to take a BIG hit when I get home.
4 What was your favorite Christmas gift? (this year or ever). Not counting my youngest son being born on Christmas Eve; I would say a leatherbound copy of The Hobbit from my youngest son. It is not my favorite book, but it was the fact that he gave me a book. This is the first book I have received as a gift, since childhood. It is the thoughtfulness behind it.5 Move for at least 30 minutes today

Morning ladies
That 500.00 was just for December, as of January 2st it now doubles
Things have gotten worse and neither Kyle nor Carmine care about anyone but themselves when it comes to feelings
Kyle wants Carmine out of the house..at least for awhile and Tracy wants family counseling which isn't covered by Kyles insurance
I told her to contact 211 and give them information to see what she can get..I will help with Miles..
I just hope they work this all out.. ugh...with Miles Birthday coming up Saterday...3 -
OH MY Pip... that made me laugh! I'm sure you weren't laughing at the time, but whatever it takes.
Levi certainly is a handsome dude, Lisa! Those eyes will melt ya!
Congrats Karen!
So glad DH is coming home Katla.
IDK about that, Tracey, cuz we had some major big flakes yesterday and we got LOTS of snow. We got about 8" yesterday and we're expecting another 4-6" today.
Kylia, that is THE sweetest story... it reminds me of the Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls that my Great Aunt made me. I wanted them so much and had never had them, but I was 13! Far too "old" for those dolls, but she made them anyway, bc I was her favorite and I wanted them. Thank you so much for reminding me of that.
Got rid of a BUNCHA old spatulas and tongs and just STUFF that we don't use anymore yesterday... YAY!
4 What was your favorite Christmas gift? (this year or ever)... EVER, my Chrissy doll, the ones years ago that had the red hair that pulled out and went back in. My mom made her loads of extra clothes. OMG, I loved her!
Love and Blessings, Carla, in MNI really, REALLY like this gratitude thing, so I grabbed a boatload of these lists and I tweaked it big time! So I'm going to keep it going... myself. One day you're doing, or NOT doing... like the 1st, the next day you're thinking/reflecting.
1 Sit in silence for three minutes... it's harder than you think
My three minutes turned into five and then almost ten... it was so relaxing. But then Mom was really into transcendental meditation when we were kids and taught us all how to do it. I've missed that. We were all able to slow our heartbeats WAY down. I've used that so many times in the last several years in all sorts of meaningful ways! LOL Think I need to add this to my daily prayers every morning again.
2 List 5 things using each of your senses… hoar frost on my trees, that beeper that we can’t find that keeps going off, morning coffee that tastes sooooo good, tapping the computer keys, congested(lol)
3 Let go of at least 5 items in your house... cleaning out a couple of our kitchen drawers today. Wish me luck! Got rid of a BUNCHA old spatulas and tongs and just STUFF that we don't use anymore... YAY!

Karen - Congratulations! And yes, a big for grands... Fascinates me how much I can love these little people.cityjaneLondon wrote: »Lisa - I love all your photos of the family. I really enjoyed seeing you painting with Hayley. Are you going to keep it up?
Heather UK xxxxxxxx
Heather - thank you, and yes, I need to get back to painting in general and will be trying to find a good watercolor tutorial. Haley's mom sent me this image this morning. She got Haley to watch a Bob Ross tutorial, and then she went to work with her mom for the morning. This is what she created from memory at her mom's office: She's 7 years old! At 7, I could draw the little flat house, stick-figure people, and the V-wings for birds, and that was about it. She is working here with perspective and layering and on top of that, doing it with a different medium than Ross, who was working in oils, AND doing it from memory without a visual in front of her. I am flabbergasted... she's asked her mom for a "board with a finger hole" and more paints and brushes already. I apparently sparked something!
Rori, always good to see you, dear heart. Glad you were able to survive the unexpected house guest, and love your goal to travel to every continent.
So... after nearly two hours of trying everything, Corey found that the entire governing circuit board on the range had gone bad, as well. In the end, it would cost more to replace the electronics than it would to buy a new range... So this morning, I ordered a new range from Lowes. Reasonably priced, they've got a big sale on appliances right now, and every screen as I narrowed down my choice told me it would be delivered tomorrow, January 5. So I pulled the trigger on it, ordered it, and a delivery screen pops up giving me the choices of January 14, 21 or 28. I went ahead and picked the 14th so I could get the order filed and called their customer service people.
I'm politer than I used to be... and I always tell the person that I know this is not their fault, but I can hear the cutting edges of my voice. I just told her that they are lying on their sales site over and over again, and while Home Depot may not be a savings, at least they don't lie. I actually CHOSE Lowes because the screen kept telling me, deliver tomorrow! Home Depot was up front and said January 17.
Ah well - I don't hold on to the bad stuff for too long these days. I know they have supply issues, heck, three summers ago we waited nearly four months to get an upright freezer! I just want them to tell the dang truth.
Onward into my day, my dears, hope yours started better than mine. Corey did make sure the rangetop still works, so in the kitchen I have an Instant Pot, a slow cooker, a rangetop, a toaster-oven style air fryer and a microwave. I think we can limp along until we get an oven back. Also, the gas range that I ordered is also a convection oven and an air fryer, so I might be able to actually get rid of one or two appliances!
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR
