Hospitals We have two major hospitals in our area. One will only let people in during visiting hours. They lost my DH in a hallway twice! when he was there for his original eye injury. The other actually encourages a (just one) family member to stay with patient. It helps the nurses and gives the patient someone to speak and interpret for them. That is the hospital that we tend to go to most often. Thankfully it has been several years since DH has had to stay in hospital and 30+ years for me. When I was in, my now ex had to stay home with our girls and I kicked my mom and her "boyfriend" out. I was getting no rest with them there.3

Jake's procedure was successful. He now has a new generator in his pacemaker/defibrillator that should last ten years. The medical staff awesome. Jake wants me with him so I stayed until they took him to surgery. Then I put in my earbuds to listen to a podcast while I walked 10,000 steps before returning to the waiting room to read A few minutes later the nurse came to get me so I could drive him home.

Barbie—Sending good thoughts for Jake’s surgery. It looks like good news. ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
Allie— We bought an inflatable bed/mattress when we first moved here. It was my temporary bed for awhile and I slept well enough.
Something like it could be a treat for an overnight for a grandchild. After the overnight, it is easy enough to deflate to use another day. Just a thought. . . Michele made a similar suggestion. 😘2 -
Allie, hugs friend. You have so much on your plate, *hands you a platter* there ya go.🤗💖. You are amazing and care so much for so many. Carmine and Myles and Tracy are so lucky to have you.
Same goes for me ladies. Rebecca Gossett and my photo is of an old lady (me). I have my mommas photo up presently on Facebook until her birthday in heaven passes.💖. Feel free to send me a friends request.

10 What is your favorite lyric from a song- hard to pick just one, but from Marty Haugen’s Holden Evening Prayer “…stay with us for it is evening, and the day is almost over…”
US HWY 101 closed from Monday til Friday afternoon, between Gold Beach and Port Orford.
https://www.currypilot.com/news_free/u-s-101-landslide-one-lane-expected-open-friday/article_c1fc0542-92aa-11ed-8b82-9b5a765a98d7.html?utm_medium=social&fbclid=IwAR1OUJSdbeNoHvtEuDkHEPOi5-snktJEzqb0YnaUZWfvrqxGAbyiSO7l0cA
76 station ran out of regular the next day. Most of our stuff comes down 101 from Coos Bay. The alternate is 199 from Medford, pretty twisty and even more frequent slides than 101.
Been slackin’ in more ways than one, steps way low, CI way high, staying away from the thread too long. Will do a little skimmin’ today and see what tomorrow brings.
Pip belated best birthday wishes to Yogi. Smoooch that pooch!
Michele you probably already know this but I’ve found this stretch helpful: While standing, cross one foot over the other at the ankle, then lean forward until you feel a stretch. Breathe one two three four five, then stand up straight and uncross feet. Cross the other foot over and repeat.
Allie please double check about that PT. If Medicare doesn’t approve something, afraid Plan B supplement won’t pay either. BUT if your MD ordered the PT, then Medicare should approve and pay (after you meet Medicare’s plan B deductible) and your Plan B supplement insurance should kick in too. My share of PT ended up costing me about $300 for 3 months of twice a week sessions, but I’d already met my deductible. Good luck! Chronicles of Narnia was a favorite that I didn’t discover until I worked in a children’s library. Also loved George MacDonald’s Princess books.
Kylia great mammo news!

Sue - that’s a great birthday gift.
Heather - it was a long day of waiting. Kaitlyn and I have flights booked for Friday. One advantage of working in a nursing home is the experience of the nurses and they helped us decide it needs to be soon. I just hope Friday is soon enough.
Rodger handles all the grass mowing and usually the garbage as well. I do it on occasion. It’s whichever of us is going out the door that usually takes it. He usually takes the bin to the curb and back though.
Machka - I haven’t heard about Newhart for years and saw something on TV referring to it just recently.
Betsy - hugs to you.
Ginny - thank you for that. It means a lot.
Beth- thank you as well.
I chuckled at your mom wanting a toaster lol
Vicki - my husband is with his father this evening. A very short time as his father was given a sleeping aid and DH didn’t get in until 1045 pm.
The hospital is 3348 kms from our house. That is 2080 miles (thanks Google).
My daughter and I are flying out on Friday.
Machka - I wouldn’t count on the hospitals here anymore. Our healthcare system is in crisis. My FIL is in the situation he is in because they just kept sending him home with no tests being done. They now figure he has had the cancer for 4-5 months. He has been to the hospital by ambulance 4 times, had the ambulance at the house 10 times and been to his doctor after waiting weeks for an appointment once. All of this and not one blood test was completed until Thursday. Now he probably won’t be here in a week. It is infuriating and incredibly sad.
I’m off to bed. Been a very long day.

Yes, my husband does the rubbish and mows the lawn. I have never mowed a lawn in my life. If he were not in my life any more I would hire someone to mow the lawn (I did that while he was in hospital) and I would be planning to move somewhere with no lawn.
My husbands have also done all the kitchen stuff. That's also the man's job!
Even Rhody gets concerned if I am doing something in the kitchen!

When my husband had his hernia surgery, I think I actually drove because it was in the middle of a covid surge and we didn't want to take a bus. I got him changed and ready then walked into town and went shopping.
Other surgeries we've had, we got ourselves there while the other person worked. At the end of the work day, we'd collect the other.

Tracey - I'm sure all our NHS pressures have been in the news. We are all crossing fingers we don't need to go to hospital! But that does sound especially bad about your FIL. I'm very good about making a nuisance of myself, but that's not true for everyone, and shouldn't have to be.
Flu seems to be hitting hard this year. My friend K had it badly and she had had the jab, like me. Maybe they got the wrong strain this year.

I have no formal plans for today. DH is going out to play badminton this morning.
It’s a bright but bitterly cold day. We have snow forecast for later.

♦️Laundry
♦️vacuum upstairs
♦️declutter desk
♦️look out fabric for embroidery journal
♦️solid habits

Starting again is a great thing!!!!
I know what you mean about things not going as planned around the holidays. Three days before Thanksgiving, I did a klutzy move, fell face first on the cement, breaking three front teeth. Add to that I had to have melanoma removed from my nose then reconstruction/skin graft surgery. Removal was two weeks before Christmas and reconstruction was a week before. Christmas and New Years I spent it on the couch with lots of restrictions.
I started back walking a little this week. Rain has stopped more and longer walks. I will be back at Zumba in two more weeks.
It feels good to get started again. Little steps lead to bigger ones.
Any movement is better than none

Wow Debbie, glad things are turning around for you. So sorry that happened. Glad the malenoma is gone. Wishing you a quick recovery on all points. Good job with starting back. I probably would have stalled out entirely after what you wen through. Thank you for your response.5 -
Logging food, but still not very motivated. Eating poorly. Did good for 2 days, stayed within calorie goal, drank my 8 gl of H2O, didn't get in all the exercise, then ate over calories yesterday, and started today off wrong food wise. Made sure to get a work out in this morning. Yes, my hours are weird. I work nights, and have to work tonight after being off several days. Have to get back to day sleeping. Hope everyone has a good day.4

Regarding hospitals and health care ... I think they're all struggling to some extent or another, especially since COVID.
Over here, I've found I need to be quite proactive.
For example, I suspected that something was wrong with the inside of my nose for years. So when we got to Tasmania in 2014 and settled in, I saw a doctor and asked to see an ENT specialist. I went on a waiting list and my doctor lost interest. Every year I got a letter asking me if I wanted to stay on the waiting list, and every year I sent in a response form indicating I did. In 2019, I finally saw an ENT specialist who immediately diagnosed me with a badly deviated septum. It was so badly deviated that one side was almost entirely blocked. That explained so much!! I had it fixed in 2020, thank goodness!
What puzzles me is that the specialist determined I likely had a deviated septum from birth or soon after. How is it that NO ONE noticed it before?? I've been seeing doctors, and allergy specialists, and I've been for sinus X-rays, and all sorts, but no one noticed.
And then, just recently, I went to see a skin specialist (without going through my doctor) who discovered two spots of skin cancer. One was on my nose. I've had so many people look at my nose over the last few years, including someone who did surgery on my nose, and yet no other medical specialists noticed the skin cancer.
If I hadn't pushed to stay on the ENT list (my doctor had long-since lost interest) and if I hadn't gone to a skin specialist myself, I wouldn't have learned about the deviated septum or skin cancer.
When I saw my GP yesterday, I specifically asked to be sent for an MRI on my brain to check the cyst. It hasn't been scanned in 4 years and I want to see if it is the same size or if it has grown. I am also chasing up my kidney specialist myself now.
I don't know if it is that medical people are overworked or what, but they do seem to overlook things more than they used to.

Well folks .......... I uploaded my book to KDP this morning, with my stomach clenching, but I think it's OK. It will be both in paperback and on Kindle. Available on Amazon soon. They take a little while to review the uploads and get it up on Amazon, but it shouldn't be long.
I'm feeling a bit shell-shocked, as this morning I was convinced I wouldn't get that far. I had only committed myself to reviewing the blurb. Somehow the momentum kept me going.
Can't quite believe I've done it! I'm shaky.
So, the book is 'MEMORY BOXES - poetry and memoir' and my name is Heather Eyles.
Blurb goes -
Heather Eyles invites you to rifle through her Memory Boxes with her. She believes the poems we write tether us to our own sense of self and unite us with others, whether we are drowning in love, bathed in joy, angry, despairing, contemplative, or at peace. Heather's vital voice celebrates, through the poetry of a lifetime, mixed with snatches of memoir, her deep human experience in all its wild and precious glory.
I'm still trembling. .......
Love to all. And I'll tell you when it's live.

@amdaless - Working nights can really mess with the mind and body. It takes a special person to do that. Remember one bad decision doesn't mean the next one has to also be bad. We have all been where you are at! Somedays life is just hard! When I started MFP, most of my friends had diaries open. This helped me with decision making on food. I didn't want to be the one posting that I ate chocolate, cookies, and pizza all in one day 😉. Now most people have their diaries private. My eating has gotten better most of the time, but there are still days that aren't pretty. Stop, think, then make your decision. Things like ....is there another option? Why am I wanting this and not that? Am I thirsty, tired, bored, or hungry? I hope this helps. This thread also helps me. I don't want to disappoint this group of strong, supportive, and lovely ladies. You've got this! For me, PROGRESSION is my word this year. I am taking one item I want to get better at and concentrating on that, then adding to it and making adjustments. My biggest challenges are water, sleep, and exercise. I may have to keep a few things only a week, but others stay the same for a few weeks. We all learn differently, but this seems to be working for me. Keep coming back.
For the new ladies...I turn 60 in a little over 2 weeks. I am a mother of 2 girls and grandmother of 4. I married young, divorced at 31, met my current DH in 1994, married him 2009. I work with him and his sister in their lawnmower shop. He is legally blind since 1995 and has less independence than most of us. I was 97 pounds when we met. I was working two jobs with one being a waitress. I could eat anything, because I never sat down for long. I started working with them in 1998. At that time we ate fast food for lunch most days. My highest weight has been 155. I am 5'2" and petite frame. I started MFP with my BFF in June of 2010 at 139 pounds. She was killed in a car accident that july 4th. It was hard to keep going, but she was my inspiration. I have been to my goal weight twice. Then I get sloppy. I was in the 130s for years! I have been in the 120s for the past 2. Anxiety, depression, and stress are my enemies. This thread is one of my lifelines. And no I have no desire to be below 100 again! It isnt a healthy goal. I feel my best at between 112‐115.
New ladies, this group is wonderful! We are supportive, strong, and chatty. We come from all walks of life and all over the world. Keep coming back.
DH has doctor appointment today. I am not looking forward to the time from work even though I am closer to being caught up. This too shall pass🙂
Better get ready for work.
Make the best decision you can at the moment!
Prayers for safe travels, health, comfort, families!
❤

@cityjaneLondon ‐ Heather! Amazing job! Can't wait to read.
@Machka9 - I miss the days when the GP actually had time to listen and pay attention to their patients. I believe (at least in the US) that insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies have a large roll in the decline of that. You are right, you have to be a strong advocate for yourself and your loved ones.

1 Sit in silence for three minutes... it's harder than you think. Does silently working in the garden count? Done! I sat silently for 7 minutes and prayed.
2 List 5 things using each of your senses. Right now? I can see my Christmas decorations, I can hear Christmas songs, I can taste my coffee, I can smell my coffee, and I can feel a comfortable temperature in the room.
3 Let go of at least 5 items in your house. I'm not in a downsizing or reducing mode so I've taken some lunch things to work, I will take an item to be mailed and another to be given to the people at work.
4 What was your favorite Christmas gift? (this year or ever). I can't tell you what my favourite Christmas gift this year is yet. It's a secret.
5 Move for at least 30 minutes today. Absolutely. It's a very rare day that I don't.
6 Share a goal you achieved last year. We completed the longest bicycle ride since my husband's accident and the fastest.
7 Slow down and savor one meal today. Mmmm ... pizza!
8 Who was your favorite teacher. My father. But I've had quite a few good teachers, in addition to him, over the years.
9 Create something today. I finished creating my first work-related project plan today.
10 What is your favorite lyric from a song. Difficult one given that I like so much music. But let's go with: "A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices"
11 Send a card/note to someone today. Do emails count?
12 What are you looking forward to in 2023? Can't tell you that! It's a secret ... same secret as my favourite Christmas gift.
13 Tell a random person they look "good" today. It's a bit late in the day to read this and didn't meet too many random people today ... or people in general. But I smiled at some horses and told Rhody he's gorgeous.
14 Tell us three amazing things that happened recently (you decide what "recently" means...lol)
One is a secret ... I should be able to tell you by the end of the month.
My skin cancer surgery went better than expected and all my margins are clear.
I've been able to hold my granddaughter.
15 Call or text someone you haven't talked to in at least a week. Well, I did email a couple people yesterday.
16 What made you smile today. Do you mean like evil laughter?? Or a happy smile?
Happy would be big fresh strawberries from our plants and my colouring book. I'm colouring little rainbows right now.
17 Take a photo of something you're grateful for
Our garden18 What material comforts are you most thankful for? You can make your list as long as you like...
19 Write a positive review for a company for goods or services you've received recently

24 What about you makes you special?
25 Spend time with a loved one
26 When was the last time you felt pure joy?
27 Hold the door for a stranger... or a friend
28 What fear have you overcome?
29 Engage in a random act of kindness of your own choice
30 When was the last time you laughed so hard you almost peed?
31 Now try to "meditate" (sit in silence) for ten minutes...
Writing a Project Plan for work. It's up to 80 pages now. Most of that are the appendices ... reference documents. But it's got risk assessment tools and tables, SWOT analyses, Gap analyses, Stakeholders, Milestones, and the whole bit.
I used to think I would like to be a fiction author. Turns out, my area of specialty is writing documents.
I need to check some links tomorrow and check my fonts. I used a template which has at least a couple different fonts going on. I don't mind two fonts, but any more than that annoys me terribly!
Then I want to think if I need to break down the steps for each milestone a bit more or just leave them like they are. If it were just for me alone, I'd leave them, but as others may be involved, I might need to detail some of the steps a bit more.
Anyway, that's what I'm up to at work these days.

Heather - Well DONE! So hard to push that final button to push it out to the world.
Machka - The fact that you're good at something doesn't mean you want to do it for the rest of your life. When I was in my late 30s, I co-founded a company for a while where our biggest jobs were software manuals. I hated it. Have avoided it since.
Carla - No need for sorry - most of us don't reply to everyone! I certainly don't.
Barbie - Glad you're home, sounds like Jake's new ticker engine was a successful procedure.
For the new ones, the story of my journey. It is long, so the TL;DR (too long; don't read) is below the spoiler:When I got out of the military in 1983, I weighed about 150 pounds. At 25, I was trying to get pregnant, and the combination of being free to eat and fertility pills made me gain weight so fast that I popped stretch marks. I was up to 200 pounds before the last failed surgery.
By 2005, I weighed 303 pounds, and had a gastric bypass. My childhood abuser had died in 2004, my marriage was foundering, and every diet just added more pounds. It was the only choice left, in my opinion.
In the next two years, I lost 166 pounds and gained an inch back in height. My marriage died with a whimper, because weight loss will NOT fix a bad marriage, and I left him in 2008. I realized finally that the weight blanket I'd gained to keep me safe from my abuser had also kept me in my marriage, as well. When you figure out what the weight DOES for you, as opposed to just hating it, you can start thinking about things very differently.
Married the love of my life in 2009 and got a 15-year-old son and a 17-year-old daughter as my wedding present. They both call me "Mom." My daughter's three children call me "Gramily" because I won't answer to anything else.
I've never looked at another man since I married Corey, but the old me apparently was worried that I might, so I had eaten myself back up to 219 by late 2019. One pound at a time, they didn't all jump on me at once. I had struggled with that upper weight for quite some time, even got down as far as 179, with these ladies as my rock and my sounding board.
By the time the pandemic began, the weight started coming down easily. However, it was coming down no matter how much I ate. I was getting sicker and sicker. In late 2021, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, ulcerative colitis. I also was anemic, and in a-fib 24-7. I'm down to 149.3 as of this morning, and have to go into town to get my iron tested at 8 a.m.
The weight didn't cause any of the above issues, but the gastric bypass may have. Iron levels are a constant problem, because they bypass the part of your stomach that absorbs iron best. I take iron supplements morning and night and have had three infusions in the last couple months.
There are days that it seems I made a deal with the devil to lose the weight, but I wouldn't give up this life for anything. I'm happier than I've ever been, and the disease is just a thing I need to deal with. I genuinely appreciate the weight loss that's come with it, but I'm now in the maintenance range I was aiming for (145-150) and I don't want to drop any more. Working on that.
TL;DR: Had a gastric bypass, lost all the weight, got happy, started gaining weight again, now I've lost it all because of the autoimmune disease I was diagnosed with in 2021, not the way I planned.
Ah, wow, didn't mean to lay my whole life out there, but there it is. And it's time for me to fly to go get my tests done. It's just dawn outside, but better than darkness, anyway.
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR

Tracy was fired up this morning...very upset.. she is overtired and overwhelmed.
Miles isn't sleeping well and ,Carmine is a teenager and is just rude and disrespectful
And Tracy said she is trying to do the best she can.. Kyle went with Carmine to School for a open house and Carmine was just totally disrespectful and nasty to him in front of all the other parents..I would have been upset too..He does this to push Kyles buttons so there is that..
Teen years are rough I remember ,Tracy and I didn't get along great either ..but it all works out..10 -

Rebecca—I have considered you a friend since you were living near Astoria, OR, and I was living in HalloweenTown, AKA St Helens, OR. Sorry for the loss of your mother, but I think she’s proud of you and smiling from heaven. 💖
I hope one of these years, you will get back to your home on the water, with maybe a live in nurse, and we will be back on the Oregon coast. That is a nice thought, I don't know if its reality, but its a nice thought though huh?💖. I consider you a valued friend!
I lost my mother about 24 years ago, my youngest was 4 months old when she passed. I was only in my late thirties so it was a difficult time. But now she is only a thought away, and I think she smiles a lot and helps me get back to a balance, when I have rough days missing my youngest.💖👍🏻⚓

Well I'm up at 7:00 am ready to seize the day! I am attending the gym with husband, but its only to use their sauna! Well for today anyways. I have my swimming suit on presently, feeling weird. But its a comfortable two piece. I did alter it last summer by cutting out the pads in the bra part, and cutting off the dorky bow part. Its now manageable.😁 I will look forward to it slowly falling off this body of mine, ha! By summer I plan to buy a new suit dammit!

I like to do some things for the calorie burn not because I like doing them or because kirby doesn’t want to do it or won’t. When we had a lawn, I liked cutting the grass, sh would Tim the edges and get the lawnmower out and get it ready for me. Same thing with pressure washing, he sets up the thing and I go at it and he puts it away. It’s all about the calorie burn for me5 -
