Oh no, @Teresa502 I missed this! Hope he is stable and doing better now!
@shanaber would an airhorn scare them off if they decided they wanted to attack me? Because the issue is that these dogs are either wild or just roaming loose a LONG way from wherever they live, and making noise to get help would be no use in that particular area because there's literally nobody out there for miles. I wondered about one of those whistles, but they seem to just be to stop dogs barking... looked at battery operated gadgets that are meant to scare them away but reviews aren't good. Hence the thought I should just take my poles, if not to whack the bloody things at least to wave about around myself to try and stop them getting near enough to bite. Ugh. Dogs (ok, and steep descents) are probably the only thing that really worries me about running alone in the middle of nowhere.

Love the egret photos @shanaber . I hope you and Hobbes enjoy the agility class. I might need to get an airhorn to carry with me when I run out my road. There are some new dogs that I have heard can be aggressive, if you are on their property. I don't know what they would do if I were just running past the property. You said yours is little. What brand is it and where did you buy it, if you don't mind me asking?
I was supposed to be gone all day today. I had appointments and errands starting at 10 and was supposed to have a training for daycare from 6 - 8 this evening. I didn't want to have to exercise after I got home at 8:30 tonight, so I got up at 6:15 so I could get in a short run before leaving the house. Turned out that the training got cancelled due to illness of the presenter, so I got home about 4. Still, I was glad that I forced myself to be a semi-morning person today.
I only had about 30 minutes, so I walked 1 mile for warm up and cool down. For the run, I did 2 min each from 4.5 - 4.9 mph, then 5:39 min at 5.0 mph. That turned out to be 1.25 miles in 15:39 min. Avg pace was 12:31 min/mile. Avg Hr was 133 and max was 146 bpm. Not bad for me and I felt good.

I ran 5.5 miles this morning. It was cold, but not windy so it was pretty good, and I hit my goal for January. I ran today since we are supposed to have wintry weather tomorrow. Now it is looking like we may just get rain. But if we do it will be cold, wet and windy. So I am glad I ran today. Tomorrow I will just do an hour of yoga before work.

Hello Everyone!
Today was my long run. I went out just a little over 2 hours for 18.5km. The run was really nice. I had 1 gel for fueling and a sip of water every 20 minutes or so. I felt really good out there today, even though the conditions were far from ideal. I chose a long run on what used to be the train line, which is now just a dirt biking path. The first half is always uphill and back is always downhill. However, it snowed here a bunch on Sunday, and parts of it were covered in mud, parts were covered in snow, and parts were covered in ice. So it was definitely a bit of a zig zag to always find the safest and easiest part of the path to run on.
It's just kind of cold, dark, and snowy out on the trail today...
Yesterday I got a quick 6.7km run in between work and picking my son up from school. I went around our local lake, but it was really icy, so there was definitely some added difficulty there as well. There's not usually that much snow here, but sometimes I do wish I had little spikes on my shoes....
I am already over my kms for this month. I figure I'll just keep on going as I have been and maybe see if I need to up my goal a bit next month.

Morning everyone! π
Baaaackkkkk!! π
Tune-up 4!
So, week1 of a 3week Taper....
Going to do no more than 75-80% of last ("Big") week's mileage.
Got 44M in last week (including that 26.2) so will keep to around 34 this week.7 -

There are more "spikey" versions you can upgrade to if you're going to be doing snowy/icy trails.
Decathlon might be stretching a bit calling any of these "crampons", as they are quite different from the big spikes people wear while climbing icy mountains. I think we had this discussion a year ago here, and I ended up calling what I use "hiking crampons".2 -
@martaindale You are doing great with your recovery. Glad you are having your perfect weather.
Nice running @kgirlhart . Congrats on meeting your 100 mile goal already!
@Laurz9191 Great running. Glad your long run was a good one and congrats for exceeding your monthly goal already too. That's a pretty, snowy route. Be careful out there.
Nice, speedy recovery run @tarun_yadavA .

Long drawn out scenario of this morning's run!It is cold!
27Β°F but it was pervasive! I thought maybe by mile, 3 I will warm something up. I did not. I was already sore from yard work on Saturday. Keep up with pep talk, don't give up.
@0545 I got blinded by light from oncoming car, I moved over and sure enough, another car coming. Took evasive action, thought I knew approximately where I was. Step down jarred me, but successfully made the ditch without falling. Only to not navigate the lip back to the road and down I went. Got both knees, but Thank you God! I did not smash my face. I was able to pull my head back at the moment of impact! Not only am I cold, I am hurting. I get up immediately, cause you know asphalt is cold! I am limping/running down the road now. One mile from home, but in my head I have to wait to tell my running partner I am done. Pain eases as I move on, she comes out, but you know me, off I go with her to the hills! I told her I was not going to stop. Once I stop, I would be done. So, we ran and we griped about the cold for another hour!8 -
@AlphaHowls NOTHING keeps you down!!!!!! πͺ3
-
@AlphaHowls that is scary when you have traffic like that. Were you wearing any lights? at least with it being so cold you probably had some layers on so you did not skin your hands/ knees up. Hope you are not hurting too badly tomorrow.0
-
@AlphaHowls I don't know how you do it? I am glad that you weren't hit be a car. So sorry about the fall and hope you aren't too sore/painful later.
I did a treadmill session. The plan called for an easy run. It wasn't as easy as I had hoped and I had to slow down after the first mile, but not horrible for an easy run, I guess. I did a run/walk for 4/1 min at 3x4.5, 4.2-4.4/3.8 mph then 2/4:13 min at 5.0/4.2 mph. Average pace was 13:56 min/mile. Avg HR was 133 with a max of 150 bpm.
I think this is the first time I've exceeded my goal this early in the month. I don't have a snowballs change in.......of making 100 miles, but may make 90.4 -

I have a reflective vest and I was wearing my Nox gear lights. Traffic is rare on this road at that time, maybe one or two. They both just happened to come at the same time. I am also not usually on that road at that time, but I was cold and considering going home. I wear my compression leggings, long sleeved fleece shirt and jacket, as well as heated gloves. IT was SO cold! The humid air made it worse.
I am sore, but really not bad. I have not 'limped', just walking carefully. Left shoulder is sore this evening just because of impact I imagine.
*dew claws up*
