It’s a sunny Saturday here in ne Indiana. All that bright light after a lot of gloom lifts my spirits, especially since I eat more when it’s gray and cold outside. Have a lovely Saturday, all!
2/12 - 178.6
Boom. But no surprise. I’ve had several days way over calories so my calories average is about 400 over goal. I’m eating even when I’m not hungry. Aaagghhhh. I’ve got to get a grip. I know how to lose weight and very consciously sabotage myself. Why? Well, it’s supposed to warm up today, so I’ll try to get my butt in gear for a long-ish walk with Booker. He’s only 3 months old, so not up to miles and miles yet, but he can still get me out for some exercise. Anyone know any good books or articles on the psychology of overeating? My eating is clearly emotional, not physiological. Sigh.
2/13 - 178.2
Thanks for the reading & podcast recommendations! I’ll look into them. I’m feeling more upbeat today — maybe it’s the sunshine. Off now to see our tax guy, and then buy a new collar for Booker—he’s growing fast! I’m planning a nice long sniff walk with him this afternoon, and a nice healthy food day for me—I had one egg cooked with avocado oil spray + 1 slice of Dave’s Good Seed Thin for breakfast, and planning salad and a small apple for lunch, and boiled shrimp and oven roasted sweet potato (a little olive oil and spices) for dinner. If I’m hungry later, I’ll stick to bouillon. I’ll letcha know if I stick to the plan! I’m hoping that posting it will keep me honest.
2/14 - 178.8
I was closer to the track yesterday. Steering that way today. Happy Valentine’s Day! ❤️

@quiltingjaine I just had it done so a new test would still only reflect the same 3 months back through the holidays. I did explain that the end of year holiday A1C is always the worst of the year. Also, insurance only covers it every 3 months so it will be a 3 month wait now, but that's okay. It gives me these 3 months to prove I am making changes. I just need to be (and stay) more consistent! I see a dietician this Thursday where I will try to find out how many carbs they are recommending for me. They will be limited for sure. The info will really help.5 -

02/11 -193.0- (Trend weight 195.7)
02/12 -193.6- (Trend weight 195.5)
02/13 -192.2- (Trend weight 195.2) Travel today. Heading out early. Pleased with my progress. Yesterday was a low physical activity day but a good low cal/carb day. I think maybe my body needed the physical break. No sleep again last night 2 broken hours.
02/14 -193.8- (Trend weight 195.0) I actually did okay food-wise during travel, but blew it when I got home later. I felt like it was already too difficult to log restaurant food so it was okay to eat anything I wanted since I wasn’t logging. It doesn’t make as much sense this morning as it did last night! Endocrinologist has agreed to hold off on insulin for a few months. He is going to try to get insurance approval for a different med to replace Trulicity called Moujorna or something like that. It works similar to the Trulicity but is more effective. He doubts the insurance will approve it tho. Plan B is to up the Trulicity to max dose and allow me to continually improve my diet and exercise plan (ball is in my court). If my A1C is better with all the changes, we can avoid insulin for now. If it’s not (and I haven’t done my part) then insulin it is. He wants me to continue to lose weight as it will only help. Apparently it is common & expected to have insulin resistance after 10-15 years of being diabetic. That is when body just won’t respond to the meds anymore and insulin becomes necessary. This is where I am at. However, I am responding and getting better numbers with food choices and weight loss so I’m being given a chance. It’s becoming clear to me as I write this that last night’s horrible food choices was just another self-sabotage. Today will be a good day even though it is Valentine’s Day. I have no major plans so I will eat clean at home.

@shmmm3 Great idea for Valentine's day! Regarding the not weighing, when I worked in the office many years ago (I work from the home office now), I was able to sign up for Weight Watchers at work, which was great. We met weekly in the office during lunch. I lost the weight I wanted and kept it off for years. The WW leader made us all promise not to weigh more than once a week. That worked well for me. I think that sometimes when I weigh every day and have a good weight-loss day, I reward myself the next day with food. My goal is NOT to do that this round, i.e. reward myself with food. For now I do plan to weigh every day. I'm obsessed! lol
@RockinRobyn672 What you said here helped me this morning. I almost gave in today to the scale. I saw myself in the mirror and was tempted by the thought that if I've had good weight loss I can loosen up today. That is exactly what I usually do and why most of my weight loss attempts yo-yo up and down around the same few pounds. Last night I was so strong and thought this is going to be great and then this morning it is so hard! I'm glad I wrote in last night because it really is true and I need to keep reminding myself that as long as I'm under maintenance calories and I'm eating the right kind of calories and I'm strength training the muscles I don't want to lose, the right kind of weight will come off. I shouldn't need a scale right now when I'm tracking so cleanly. But, I want to see that number go down as a reward and that will trigger me to reward myself with food. Ugh. I already chugged water so I passed the temptation but whew it was a close one.3 -
It's my first time with this challenge, but I like the shorter duration; it seems mentally easier to keep track of. I gained 8 pounds over the holiday season (ended up about 103.5 lbs), but I'm trying to take daily walks and do a quick workout every day. I've been able to keep my self-control much better over the past week, so I'm happy with that start.

Round 214
02/11 - 178.6
02/12 - DNW - updating now because I'm going to be traveling, leaving around 5am. I don't drink a lot of water when I'm on the road so as not to stop so often. I will be tracking what I eat because I'm taking my own food with me for the day. I'll be at the hospital seeing my MIL, so no exercise, unless you count walking in and out.
02/13 - 180.1
02/14 - 180.0 - All that was in my head this morning when I saw 180 was the Allman Brothers' song "Back to Where it All Begins," which the song lyrics don't even fit, but in my head the lyrics were "Back to Where I Began." The original song (not the one in my head ) is a really good song, the entire album is great actually. Okay, I've digressed - I took food on the road but my downfall was I did not take enough food. By the time we got home, I was emotionally and physically drained and I ate too much of the Chili I made before we left. I'm home for at least the next 4 days, so will work hard at making healthy choices.

I haven't done this challenge in quite a few years, but decided I need to lose this weight before my 60th birthday in
July. Adding this challenge to my routine to help keep the momentum going. There are a few challenges this week with a Super Bowl party and Valentines, so I thought this would give me an extra layer of accountability.
2/11 193.8 I went out last night. Food choices were good but I had 1 skinny marg and 3 vodka sodas
during the night. I plan on walking 6 miles today and no alcohol.
2/12 192.9 Good! Walked 6.5 miles yesterday and intermittent fasted. Superbowl party today, so let's
see what happens tomorrow. I will walk before I go, not eat until I get there, and stick with
protiens and veggies. 2 vodka soda limit....
2/13 194.0 Super bowl snacks.....
2/14 192.9 Back dowm but I am going to enjoy a nice Valrntine's dinner tonight, so we will see what tomorrow brings.

2/11 – 209.6 – It’s a Saturday and the weather is nice, so I headed out work a nice long walk!
2/12 – 210.2 – My weight continues to bounce up and down. It gets somewhat discouraging, but thankfully my “trend weight” continues to move downward. I have to remember that my roller coaster ride is a marathon – a slow journey. I’ll get there. Another walk outside today – tomorrow the forecast is snow.
2/13 – 210.3 – Given that we had a Superbowl spread out last night and I nibbled on it a bit – this doesn’t seem bad. I avoided all the higher sodium items and tried to stay within calories. One trick is to serve items I don’t really care for – like chicken wings, so it’s easy to stay away from them.
2/14 – 209.9 – Happy Valentine’s Y’all! I hope you have a wonderful day. My Valentine’s gift to myself today is yoga.

@deepwoodslady 👍👍👍My daughter is using Mounjero with amazing results. She is not diabetic but is insulin resistant. You might be able to get some sort of company discount if your insurance doesn’t cover it. A friend using Ozempic is get results but not as good. DD said her cravings went away and she easily passes by the snacky crap. Don’t have stuff in the house that is junk. Your daughter is an enabler and she needs to be informed of that. The grandchildren don’t need junk food either.2

@quiltingjaine Great to know someone who is using it. Dr. showed me a bar graph of how effective it is for lowering the A1C for my diabetes and it is twice as effective as my Trulicity. I do hope my insurance will cover it. If it also has the ability to help curve cravings wow! what a plus that would be! Let me know if your DD is having any worrisome side effects.2 -

Every day is a kindness to myself.
2/11- 164- It's been a hard couple of days. Slacking off wasn't worth it. I would probably be at my goal by now. Husband wanted to go out for breakfast. I had coffee. Thankfully their coffee is really good.
2/12- 163.8- I took out bacon so breakfast was at home. The whole house smells like bacon. :P Weekends are so hard. When I’m home by myself it’s a lot easier. Super Bowl, but I just made us a regular dinner. No snackies to contend with, I would have failed.
2/13- 162.6- I was only over ± 260 calories, until my elephant decided to sneak out for a snack. Although what I ate wasn’t outrageous, it was my whole intake for tomorrow. It also had a lot of salt, so the scale will not be my friend in the morning.

Hi, I'm Charissa, ready to go for Round 214/5.
I love these 10 days at a time rounds! Very doable. Better than a week as you tend to follow the same up and downs per week and it doesn't always show your progress. Also being able to refocus after 10 days is great! And boy do I need to refocus this round
Had a tough round 213 with lots of celebrations and dinners out. This round starts with a birthday party, yet another dinner and then Superbowl. Monday - no reason to not be back on track!

You make me laugh! Love your tone, the “yikes!”, “booooo” and “not a fan” are exactly how I try to describe my not-so-happy result days too. We all have them, might as well keep it light!

I took a few weeks off for travel and laziness. Then a week ago I badly sprained my ankle. My scale is currently going in the wrong direction, so it’s time for me to turn things around!

GIVE ME 10 DAYS – ROUND 214
Round 214
February 11 - 20, 2023
61 year old female, 5’5”. I am married, semi-nomadic (we live in three states, Mass, Maine, Florida).
Goal for 214. Make the scale move and leave that stubborn number, 142.4. Diversify my exercise. Become more active on this group. I had been hoping to lose 5 lb/month for Feb, March, April, which would mean making it to 138.4 by Feb 28. Will accomplish what I can, as anything is better than what I have been doing the last year and a half. Habits are changing for the good.
History:Exercise & Supplements
Harry and Han are our cats, who travel with us. Have two “kids”, who are very much adults, and a DGS. We have three parents, 88(father), 86(mother), 84(MIL) still with us, and I have logically been needing to help them more as they age. I got my act in gear during COVID, somewhat inspired by NOT becoming my parents. I lost 30 lbs and was exercising daily. Unfortunately, I am an “all in or not” person. Selling family home distractions, plus medical incident with my father and all their new needs, became an excuse. A year and a half later, I gained 25 lbs and lost all my athletic improvements. I need to figure out balance and how to make health be a daily priority for life!

Day/Weight/Comment
2/11 – 141.6 tracked and stayed under, 4.95 mile walk yesterday and FINALLY scale moved…… a bit.
2/12 – 141.4 attended a walk/run first thing (7 am), then spend the day cooking and cleaning for a dinner guest. Planned and pre-tracked my day including doing “dessert for two” for the two men and not myself. Felt like a good host but controlled what I had. I did eat base plus all my exercise calories. But happy with how I handled it. For today, I have sorted out how to face the leftovers, and still be thoughtful. Plan is instead of a large dinner of leftovers, half is going towards lunch, while the other half stays dinner. I get my goodies, still have three meals (instead of starving all day to fit the dinner) and stay on track.
2/13 – 141.2 yesterday, did a long (4 lap) group walk just to keep my muscles moving as the “walk/run” was a definite shock to my leg muscles. They were tender yesterday, and very sore first thing this morning. Today is going to be a food challenge (Key West), but that is good. I need to practice enjoying life while making better choices. It is the only way this works in the long run, and isn’t that our real goal? Pleased to have gone down a little bit, though I am surprised as I can feel fluid retention in my fingers.
2/14 – 142.0 The result of eating ¾ of a 10” white pizza (half at restaurant at lunch, with ¼ as an easy dinner). Did my best to estimate and track, but again, I have all that fluid retention going on in my fingers. Doesn’t feel good. No more entertaining, leftovers, or out-to-eat for at least a few days.

@RockinRobyn672
I agree with the diet/life statement!!! My husband is a total hedonist at heart and sometimes I think I actually see his lip quiver when I smack down some decadent request.

@shmmm3 Back at ya! Your words have helped me as well. I think I will return to weighing in once a week.4
-
@MommaGemz Same back at ya! Happy Valentines Day to you and everyone! My gift to myself was to take a lunch break from work and get on the Peloton for a spin.5

Came back to update. I DID do my bodyweight workout AND my cardio sprints. I did the sprints on the spin bike we have here at the house to change it up.
I've also convinced myself to do cardio sprints tomorrow instead of Thursday due to the very high potential my sleep is going to be disrupted tomorrow night when BF gets home. Thursday, instead, will be my rest day to recover from that sleep debacle. Because of sprints 2 days in a row, I'll definitely go back to the rower so I'm not overdoing anything.7 -

My goals for this round will be the same as the last round: to not eat my children's leftovers and to eat smaller portions for dinner. I am also very sedentary so I will aim to get my heart rate above 100 bps for at least 22 minutes each day.
2/11: 167.6 lbs
Achieved my goals for the day.
2/12: 168.7 lbs
Injured my hip so I don't think I will be able to achieve my goal this round of getting my heart rate above 100 for at least 22 minutes per day. Otherwise I achieved my other goals for the day.
2/13: 169.3 lbs
Had too many papadums at dinner. No exercise either because of my sore hip. I think realistically, because of the big drop last round, I might end up 2 or so pounds with this round. I need to mentally prepare for this so I don't give up. Time to look at my inspiration slide show (which is just a collection of photos and quotes) to help keep me on track.
2/14: 168.7 lbs
Still haven't exercised. Ate within calorie budget though.

Day/Weight/Comment
2/11: 130.1 - Not really sure how I got here. Had a sugar binge last night. I did work out later in the day (just before dinner) so don’t know if that helped at all.
2/12: 131.2 - here is the bump up I was expecting yesterday. Had dinner out at a friends house. Delicious all around. I did get my workout in so hopefully that helped a little bit.
2/13: 131.6 - We did a bit of game day cooking for just the two of us. Got our workouts in though.
2/14: 131.6 -Still eating leftovers. Good workout
