There, that boosted my mood. What beaches have you all been to?

Beaches ... in roughly the order from when I was little till now.
Some beach near San Jose.
Sylvan Lake, Alberta.
A beach just south of Vancouver.
Several beaches in Manitoba ... I can't get the map up just now to give them names.
Beaches all along the west coast of France.
A number of beaches in the UK.
Beaches along the Rhine.
Quite a few beaches up the west coast of the US and a few on the east coast.
A beach in Japan.
Beaches in Taiwan.
And a whole bunch of beaches in Australia, including, of course, the one less than 1 km from where I live.
M in Oz
I grew up away from beaches (except for places like Sylvan Lake in Alberta) but always loved going to them.
I love walking on the sand in my bare feet, especially since I started developing arthritis in my feet.
I love wading into the water on a hot day and almost getting knocked over by waves.
I love the smell of ocean beaches.
I love the call of the birds.
Most of all, I live the sound of the waves.
But interestingly, one of the most common places we go in Tasmania for long weekends, when we can, is in the middle of the state almost as far away from beaches as we can get in Tasmania.
The lovely flattish, quiet country roads and lack of tourists appeals to us.
Plus we have several beaches close to home.

Good morning ladies!
Karen thanks, that puts a better spin on it. I lost 3.4 pounds last week, more than I expected, so I'm feeling better this morning.
Heather that is a lovely ballerina! You have managed to perfectly balance the smooth geometric curve with the human shape. And people are so hard to draw! Did you work from a photo?
Allie, wow, you have really traveled! And Machka, too, although no surprise there. Beaches are gorgeous but often crowded. The last time I went, it was so crowded that I could hear two radios playing different stations and it drove me crazy.
My last vacation plan was to a horse ranch in Tucson Arizona but then came Covid. I had to cancel. I love the hot sun and figured the pool would do for sunbathing. Now my parents need me, so it will be awhile before I travel again. But I could just get a lawn chair in the yard here. Hmm.
Have a great day everyone! You all are the best circle of friends ever!

Annie - Yes, I found a photo online. My last effort at a dancer was so bad I didn't post it and hid it away in a drawer! I was a bit perplexed as to what to do as a background, and decided to just leave it white. I now have a whole series of dancers.
DH is still coaching his 50 year old daughter through her breakup. She says he talks more sense than anyone else!

On the way we ended up with a gash in a tire. We had to wait for a tow truck because come to find out it had an original spare, that wasn’t the same size as the tires on it.
Ended up buying 4 tires as the other three were needing changed as well.
Then had to buy a starter.
If it’s not one thing it’s another.
Did have a nice visit with daughter and her DH. Their backyard feels like going on vacation to me. I just love it.

Heather - Your ballerina is the best yet, you should be so proud of it...
Kylia - So pleased for Audrey's news.
Flea - So pleased for the news of stable from your CT!
Rebecca - So wonderful that your son got that well-deserved promotion, and I know you must be relieved not to be uprooted for the foreseeable future. His pride just beams through that smile on his face!
Betsy - Hope there was some peace in scattering your beloved husband's ashes in Colorado, and hope the trip with your sister continues to be a joy for you both.
Just catching up for June so far - had a bad reaction to a medication that I started the last week of May. Stopped taking it two days ago after discussing with the gastroenterologist's office. Some remaining dizziness, but better by far.
Regarding clutter, (raising my hand), the clutterbug here is me. My husband is both definitely NOT, to the point where I have to go search for my stuff on occasion. I'm pretty sure he closes his eyes when he walks through my crafts room/office space. I go into put-away mode on occasion, but not nearly as often as he wishes I would.
On the subject of beaches, just way too many to list, but the first was South Padre Island, Texas, in my early teens, and the last two were Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and the Outer Banks, North Carolina, when we lived with our daughter for six months in Fayetteville in 2018. Five years since I've seen an ocean.
On location, my husband I live in a small town (population a bit over 1,000) in the River Valley of Arkansas, very near the Ozark National Forest, in the foothills of the Boston Mountains. We bought a 1950s-era stone house which we continue to renovate, sitting on 11 acres, five years ago now. It's the longest we've lived anywhere in our 14-year marriage, and we love it here. The other house inhabitant is our weird little cranky cat, Egg, who is at present hiding under the covers on my bed because the postman drove up to the house to deliver a package too big to fit in the mailbox. Not exactly a people lover.
On with my day,
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR

What's fun for other people may not be fun for me and vice versa. I am not a fan of beaches but I love driving along the coast of the ocean. I have lived nearly all my life near the ocean (my dad was in the Coast Guard and I've lived near the ocean most of my adult life (Okinawa, NW California, NW Washington). When we traveled and enjoyed a town we would ask "What if we lived here? but unless it was near the ocean we didn't think we'd want to be there long.
One major result of the podcasts I listen to as I walk is to set a positive and joyous attitude for my day. It works.
Barbie in NW WA
Former hubby was in the Coast Guard when we got married. One of my favorite beaches was Daupin Island in Mobile,AL. So much fun seeing all the hermit crabs. I wanted to take a few home but he said it wasn't a good idea. It was the first time I had been in the ocean that was warm. Growing up in N.CA. The ocean is COLD even during the summer.(was the first time I felt warm rain too- that was a shock but I loved it)
Beaches I have been to-grew up going to the beaches from Goat Rock to Fort Bragg in CA on the Pacific ocean.
Local beaches along the rivers-spent a lot of time each summer. Haven't been in a while except for on my walks around the wetlands that goes by the Napa River. On low tides I walk down the beach.
The beaches all around Oahu,Hawaii- dh's cousin lived there and showed us the great and not crowded beaches
Ensenda, Mexico,
Seattle and north of there
Virginia(former hubby had Coast Guard school back there)
AK (his ship was up there so I flew up for two weeks)1 -
Love hearing about all the beaches you all have visited! I would love to see the beaches along the Pacific Coast and the New England coast. May never get there but love the photographs/movies I have seen on line!
Michele ~ I wonder if the styes you are experiencing could be related to the sun screen burning your eyes.
Allie ~ That's a nasty bruise on your thumb.
Carla ~ Yeah for school being out!

margaretturk wrote: »Debbie your chocolate delights inspired me to make mounds bites. I had left over coconut from some bars I like to make and a can a sweetened condensed milk in cupboard long enough and chocolate to cover. Love coconut. One was delicious and satisfied my sweet tooth. YUM!
we have some great unsweetened coconut that I use in a few of the candies- It really is good. I add almonds to some and some I don't-Mounds and Almond Joy fudge.
Nice to have something just enough so you enjoy it but not feel guilty about eating it.
I didn't used to like coconut but now I do but just the unsweetened one or fresh
I do good not eating much of what I make, most of the time. My downfall is the peanut butter fudge or peanut butter cups. I will make some things to send to former hubby for his birthday and either give the rest away or freeze it, just need to not have it in the kitchen.1 -

these pictures were taken from our families' place south of Mendocino on the Pacific Ocean
Grandpa always said his front lawn was the ocean
Planning on ordering a puzzle using one of these pictures for former hubby for his birthday- not sure which one. I have sent him a canvas print of the one with the flowers. It is my favorite but not sure I want to use the same one. We spent a lot of time up there so it is a special place to both of us still, after all these years. Our what would be our 40th anniversary is coming up in a few weeks, the day after his birthday.

Debbie, the pictures are great, the sunset would make into a hard jigsaw puzzel!

Debbie, the pictures are great, the sunset would make into a hard jigsaw puzzel!
that is what I was thinking- Wish they weren't so expensive to order. Have a few other special spots that would make great puzzles- like Yosemite.
Anyone know a place less expensive than Shutterfly to get puzzles made??

Debbie - I just googled "puzzles out of pictures" and a few sites came up including shutterfly but with a coupon for shutterfly - so I'd do some googling2

Kim ~ Have you heard any more from your mom! I think she finally went home.

8. Find joy in music: sing, play, dance, listen or share. Not yesterday maybe today.
9. Ask a friend what made them happy recently. Joe is so pleased with the results of his hard work on the old van, changing the valve cover gaskets and fixing the heater blower.
Yesterday I coddled myself, no exercise and one really bad food choice (2 servings of Double Cheddar Snap’d crackers.) Fortunately CI stayed less than CO and there were at least SOME veggies. Today may not be any better activity-wise but the food plan looks promising, starting with yoghurt/tangerines/walnuts and a little honey.
Welcome @kirkman3 congratulations on the deep water aerobics!
Heather “…joy in the little things” Ditto. Delighted to be delighted. STUNNING ballerina! Bravissima!
Terri when you wander back to that garden will you please take and share pics?
Ginny your sunrise walks sound lovely!
Annie ((hugs)) Do you any kind of gratitude practice? Difficult as it may be in your situation… That’s quite a favorite beach memory collection! Well done!
Betsy sounds like a great trip. By any chance did you drive past Thousand Springs? If not, it would be worth it on your return. And if you can find the path to the top rim of Box Canyon state park it really is amazing. Strolling along a path through a level pasture, when gradually a crack in the earth opens up to a canyon below with water springing out from the canyon walls. Amazing.
Machka poor scared lost bud driver. No gps onboard? your description of walking, bicycling and thoughts. “Data dump” so useful and descriptive!
Beth yours to Annie about striving for joy.
Joy some of our Oregon Wildland Firefighters are in Canada helping out. Prayers for lots of rain and soon. Hooray for LucyDoodle!
Allie Oww that bruise looks painful! Does Tylenol help with your arthritis pain?
Rebecca are you moving those tubs of books to the Thrift store?
Debbie I love the smell of eucalyptus trees. Brings me right back to my bay area childhood. Yours about the warm Atlantic water vs N Calif Pacific. Coney Island was a real surprise. Love the beaches and warm rains on Maui.
Vicki any word on the new hire?
Rosemarie a month for the infection to show? Yikes!
Mchele thanks for the lower weights for awhile suggestion, will try that as I ease back into activity. Could the sunscreen be causing the stys?
Kay my pt routine: your results may varyLately I’ve been adding this but think it should be the first one anyone should try:Didn’t think I could ever get down on the floor and back up again but now I can thanks to this guy: https://youtu.be/FxrYmvXJRH0
Sit on floor with towel rolled under left knee, right leg extended. Look at the knee cap and try to lift/move it upwards toward your hip. Hold for 10 relax, Repeat 10 times each side.
This from my “Brian’s house of pain” (my PT)
March- up onto a low step (wii) and higher step forward, backward and to the sides 10 times starting with each leg.
Seated weighted leg lifts, 20 times each leg (with a 6 lb ankle weight and a rolled up pillow beneath my knees)
Sit to stand 10 times, 2 sets
Raise up on toes hold for ten, then rock back onto heels lift toes hold for 10. Repat 10 times in between sit to stand sets
-added this when I had trouble getting my leg up and into the car: Stand next to chair and lift let sideways up to step on seat, 10 times each side.
THEN it’s time for stretching
Lie on bed or weight bench with one knee bent/foot flat on bed.. Loop yoga belt around other foot. Pull up on belt until you can grab ankle with hand. Hold for 10, relax a little then try to flex/bend knee even further. Still lying on bed (or floor) with one knee bent/foot flat on bed, straighten the strap leg and bring toward your body while pushing up with heel, then pull leg open to your right, hold for 10. Slowly pull across the body and hold for 10. Repeat both 10 times each side being careful not to push too far. Feel the stretch but don’t bounce to get further, you could tear something.
Child’s pose with head turned toward right hold for 30, then turn head toward left hold for 30.
Standing up to wall, left foot forward toes touching wall, right leg extended back foot onto floor feel stretch hold for thirty. Reverse and repeat.
Stand on left foot, grab right ankle, stand up straight and try to lengthen front of thigh. Hold for 30, repeat on other side.
Good luck!
Katla so glad you had a pleasant day walking in the garden.
Karen yours to Annie, well said!
Tracey sorry for the expense but new tires are not a luxury, they are a safety necessity.
Kylia great news about Aubrey. 3 years, hooray!
Lanette raining here too today, and chilly the past few days. Makes it easier to stay in with this cold, don’t feel like I’m wasting sunshine
Barbie “unless it was near the ocean…” Alas, my job took us to Idaho for 25 years. Soon as I retired we scooted back to the sea
Lisa hate it when what’s supposed to heal you makes you feel sick. ((hugs))
Margaret your mounds bites sound mouth watering.
Mary, yikes! Glad you were slowing down.
Whew, caught up. Time to take my drippy nose and achy head back to bed.1. Decide to look for what’s good every day this month. 1-Blue skies. 2-views of the ocean on way into town and on stroll chat with T. 3-sharing worries and laughter with D. 4-Pianist’s choice of offertory-congregation gave her an ovation. 5-Perfect temperature today, 70 degrees at 10 am, blue sky, sunshine, only the merest breeze to keep the air fresh. That “ahh I’m home” feeling. And then there was the birdsong. 6-cool still day perfect for burnbarreling the fernwhackings.7-Pomegranate/kombucha soothing my sore throat, thanks Lanette! 8-Zicam minimizing cold symptoms. 9-Aspirin, the miracle drug.
