WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR JUNE 2023

Terri-I agree it is never ending-but since I live by myself I only have me to blame! Nothing wrong with going to a different part of your country for a bit of vacation time. When boys were young and we had very little money we would go to different places in Ohio for short stay-just for something different. Out of curiousity I just checked-Ohio is bigger than Ireland-but we don't have the ocean! I guess we are closer in size to Iceland or Bulgaria. I forget sometimes how large the US is.
Exercise for day-morning walk was 4.2 miles (just edged out Machka but she and Pip regularly leave me in the dust!). Took a different walk in my neighborhood. My house is on the high point. I walked down to the lowest elevation and down a bit and up the hill back to my house. It only represented a 92 foot upward elevation change but it works different muscles and gets my heart rate up. My heart rate is difficult to get going. It briefly got to 130 but average for the walk was 104 bpm.
Had Katla's favorite breakfast upon my return-cottage cheese and blueberries along with some dried apricots and my cranberry juice. Day is off to a good start. Going to toss sheets into washer and back to that stupid closet.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio

Heather and Flea.... ENJOY!
Rosemarie, It is hard..Fathers Day today and missing being with your DH. Wonderful you are supporting your friend and getting out and being active. Today is the second Fathers Day since my Jack's death. Life is so different now. I'm slowly finding myself as a single woman. In the first months I was afraid of life alone but time has helped me find comfort and confidence. Sending you big hugs today.
Lanette.. I think what Machka wrote is what works for me. I walk lots every day and swim several times a week. I keep veggies and salad ready to snack on always in the fridge. Meals are often salad with olives and feta cheese and some kind of baked chicken or other lean meat. I weigh 146 and would like to be 135.. but I used to weigh 185 and may never get to 135 because I've been middle 140's the last ten years. The one thing that really helped me was eliminating sugar as much as possible. I still eat dark chocolate and eat lots of fruit.
Hugs around to all,
Betsy in NW WA

Well, good morning ladies! My left foot is the sprained one, with my knees sore. I am slowly getting around with crutches. My eldest sisters daughter came for a visit yesterday, and brought me a PILE of stickers for my birthday.💖👍🏼 She brought short cakes for strawberry short cakes for dessert.💖. The strawberries were from my sisters plants in the galvanized tubs out back. So yummy!
This morning I am packed but I need to take a shower. I woke up early and so I am getting caught up with you all.👍🏼
We travel up to sons place at 11am. Husband travels the 4 hours down to meet me.
I am excited to see the man! Its been 2 weeks!

Soon to be in Wa
My sisters grandkids!
The eldest girl planned making a cake for me. The younger two distracted me by playing doctor and wrapping my arm, leg and head with gauze.😁😂. I about cried when my sister took me aside and fold me their plans in secret before the day. I haven't had anyone make me a cake in years! I am sitting on the counter, the reason I look so humongous! I am leaning into the picture from the opposite counter!😂😂. The trough photo is from a hot day, and the middle granddaughter dared me to sit in the water, so I did. It felt wonderful, but jeans and water was weird.😂

Karen ~ Your brother's latest painting is lovely. It looks a lot different from some of the others you have shown and I like it a lot.
Lisa ~ I had a difficult time sleeping last night too.
Heather ~ Looking forward to hearing about your cruise. You and Johnny have created such an interesting life and do so many things that I and my husband would never do. You are blessed to be together.
Flea ~ I can't imagine owning an island! I hope you will be able to get in a lot of diving and have good weather.
Debbie ~ That is one cute chick! I hope you will be able to keep him alive. My husband said he looked like a quail.
Rebecca ~ Love the photos of you and your sister's grands. Y'all look really happy!
Rosemarie ~ You are so good to be taking food to your friend. And, you are to be commended for making the effort to meet friends and join in activities!
My husband did not want to do anything special for Father's Day, but, I did buy him a pie that he likes. Son is working. So, we are just having a quiet Sunday.

like many of you I also did not sleep well last night, but a busy day today so off I go.2

Rebecca - What lovely grandchildren they are! Don't they raise the spirits!
My DDIL just posted this on her Instagram personal account. A bit of rain today doesn't mean you can't have an ice cream from Marroccos.
I'm more or less done. I think I'm taking my own hair dryer, because theirs is useless. I don't usually, but I find it very frustrating.
We are having homemade pizza tonight and using up the broccoli in the fridge.
All good. Just an evening of relaxing tv ahead of us.
Love Heather UK xxxxxx

Good morning ladies!
Thanks to you who are sharing your thoughts and experience about weight loss/health and strength maintenance and improvement. I always learn something.
Got a 1 mile sunrise walk in this morning. Once I get to the end of my little road, I'm lucky I can go on three different roads pretty quickly so have variety. Traffic at 5:30 am is nil so it's safe to walk on county roads at that time. The birds were singing full throttle as the sun was peeking out in the trees. A beautiful thing.
For those of you wanting to up your protein intake, I ran across a poster on FB "Shred Happens" - it focuses on Keto - found a recipe for a high protein dessert using whipped cottage cheese, unsweetened cocoa powder and monkfruit sweetener. I've had products with monkfruit and thought it was OK. Here's the link (I hope!)
Anyhow, I need to get more cottage cheese and will give this a try soon. I really like Kay's idea of squirting a little unsweetened Reddi-whip on top. I'm not sure about these measurements so will experiment. Looks yummy!
And here's another recipe using whipped cottage cheese:
Terri - yes, time to move on. I saw this meme and thought of the ladies in this group:
Rebecca - how sweet they made you a cake! I am so glad you are able to spend more time with your sis and family this year. Wishing you a speedy recovery on that sprained foot.
Pip - how did Kirby's MRI turn out? Perhaps the results aren't back yet or you already mentioned and I skipped over it. OK if you don't want to share.
I am making another request for putting long quotes, posts with a lot of memes and photos into spoilers. Yesterday, some posts were so large I just ended up skipping a couple pages and most likely missed a few posts. I realize that depending on the device being used, sometimes we can't use the spoiler feature, so maybe that was the problem. TIA.
Going to my friend's for a BBQ this afternoon. I can get another look at her chicken coop. I'm anxious to see what my next obsession will be once I get these chickens raised. It should be de-cluttering.
OK ladies, will stop for now. Make it a wonderful day!

Michele, I live in a 55+ manufactured home park. Our roads are private so traffic is minimal and roads are smooth and easy to walk on. There are more than 200 houses in the neighborhood and my walk takes me past all of them once and some of them twice so there is a lot to see. We have beautiful tall evergreen trees and most yards have interesting landscape done by the owners so there is a lot to see, When I walk alone, I listen to an audiobook or a podcast so I have entertainment and don't rely on the scenery as my only source of amusement. When I walk with a friend, we talk about everything under the sun. So the time passes quickly and happily.
Rebecca, you are a great example of "when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade"
Kim, best wishes for a great and peaceful day.
Heather, excellent idea to bring your own hair dryer. This trip is about comfort. If you wanted to travel with as little as possible, you'd be backpacking instead of going on a cruise.
Lanette, have you considered non fat plain yogurt as a protein source rather than cottage cheese? Because of Jake's heart condition, we stay away from high sodium foods like cottage cheese.
about Fathers Day Jake likes to go out to eat. The day of his colonoscopy last Monday he talked all day about wanting to go out to eat so I suggested that he should choose a place in honor of Fathers Day. We stay away from restaurants because of high sodium content and crowds of people. After great reflection, he chose our usual choice--Taco Time drive through where we get tostada salads with chicken. We went there on Friday.

Pretty sure the guy at Tractor Supply is wrong. Thinking it is a wild turkey! Looks and sounds just like one.
He made it through the night. I was up every two hours turning the heating pad on(it has a auto shut off of up to 2 hrs). Has special chick food and medicated water.
I just contacted a bird rescue group to see where I can take it.
If it was a chicken, I could give it to my mom or others around here that raise them but not a wild turkey.
Going to watch church from home today. May even take a nap this afternoon(doubt it, naps never happen for me)

Hey all! I have been reading posts this past week while I work and recuperate from my busy event, last weekend. So many things I wanted to comment on, and most of it has flown out of my brain. *sigh and an eye roll*.
Heather- Your artwork is just lovely! The ballerina turned out beautifully! You posted a pic of Jess at the bookshop. In that pic, I really see Bea in her! Edie is your mini and Max favors your son. Count me in as one who is excited to hear about your trip/packing for your trip.
Rori- Love the pic of you with the Nuggets championship sign! You look fantastic! I am sure the entire team loves that you are a reliable worker and also a loyal fan!
Rebecca- Ouch!
Flea- Enjoy your trip!
Ginny- Hope you are feeling better.
Machka- You are an inspiration with the amount of movement you get in each day/week.

My name is KJ (Kelly), I will be 57 in November of this year. I am 5'8" and weigh 255 lbs. I joined this group when I was 49 and my younger sister was diagnosed with brain cancer. At that time, I was mid menopause, out of control with my calorie consumption and my body was hanging onto weight. Since then I have been up and down with my weight. Getting all of the way down to 200 lbs, then letting life dictate my habits and climbing all of the way back up to 268. I am currently on a downward trend again. I love this group because everyone has either been where I am or is currently at the same stage as I am. I love this group because we can share all of life's ups and downs; which is so important to me, because our mental state is key to our success to making healthier choices across the board. I am currently feeling a bit like the kid in the corner (yelling and stimming) while their family is fighting. I choose love. JUst know...whatever you believe; I respect you, I respect your rights, I see you and send you all of the love. Whatever you believe; it is ALL about love.
Love and hugs to all. KJ (Kelly)

Lanette, I saw a recipe on TikTok using whipped cottage cheese and chocolate chips to make a dessert with the consistency of fudge. I have not tried it, but it did pique my interest. Also lots and lots with cottage cheese, salsa, ground beef, etc that they dipped protein chips into. They looked delicious, but I cannot bring myself to pay the price for protein chips. If I end up trying one of them, I’ll eat organic blue corn tortilla chips and log the calories and carbs, enjoying the protein from the dip itself.
Barbie, you have successfully made me want taco salad.2 -
Debbie - a wild turkey! That is pretty neat. Hope the rescue organization can give it a good home as it grows. I wonder what happened to its nestmates and mom?
Barbie - thanks for the tip about non fat plain yogurt. The guy who made the chocolate dessert out of cottage cheese admitted it sounded wierd but he liked it. I'll make a miniscule test batch. So far I don't have a problem with sodium but I don't like salty foods. DH used to salt everything heavily including the kitchen counter, lol. That Oikos Triple 0 high protein yogurt that Katiebug recommended has zero fat and 55 mg of sodium. It's thick and really satisfying.
And Barbie, on your walks - is your development situated such that you get a glimpse of Mt. Baker?
Heather & Flea and others who are traveling soon - enjoy your vacations.

1. Decide to look for what’s good every day this month. Started with friendly people.
2. Say positive things in your conversations with others. I will try, but people annoy me.
3. Re-frame a worry and try to find a helpful way to think about it. This will be about my son. Not sure how to re-frame it but will find a way today. I must realize he is a full grown man and in charge of his own life.
4. Take a photo of something that brings you joy and share it.
5. Think of 3 things you’re grateful for and write them down. 1. My family, 2. A roof over my head, 3. Enough food to eat.
6. Get out into green space and feel the joy that nature brings. every day!
7. Do something healthy that makes you feel good. 2 walks so far. And therapist today.
8. Find joy in music: sing, play, dance, listen or share. To be accomplished.
9. Ask a friend what made them happy recently. Did this on my trip to Lubbock to get my car back finally. Was a great day!
10. Bring joy to others by doing something kind for them. Will report on this later! Gave a family some Little Debbie cookies.
11. Eat good food that makes you happy and really savor it. Will do! Yesterday had a salad made from lettuce, onion, peppers, and tomato from my garden. The dressing was homemade too! Mmmmmm
12. Write a gratitude letter to thank someone. To be done! Sent my GS a thank you note for being my grandchild!
13. Take a light-hearted approach. Choose to see the funny side. Already happening after a very stressful day yesterday.
14. Share a happy memory with someone who means a lot to you. Will do.
15. Look for something to be thankful for where you least expect it. This will be fun to find things. How about turtle eggs on the beach that have to be moved to not be crushed.
17. Take time to notice things that you find beautiful. Will do! Watched people enjoying the lake on a beautiful Saturday!
18. Look for something good in a difficult situation. My son is getting help from a social worker who is including me.19. Get outside and find the joy in being active.
20. Rediscover and enjoy a fun childhood activity.
21. Send a positive note to a friend who needs encouragement.
22. Watch something funny and enjoy how it feels to laugh.
23. Create a playlist of uplifting songs to listen to.
24. Bring to mind a favorite memory you feel grateful for.
25. Show your appreciation to people who are helping others
26. Make time to do something playful just for the fun of it.
27. Be kind to you. Do something that brings you joy.
28. Notice how positive emotions are contagious among people.
29. Share a friendly smile with people you see today.
30. Make a list of the joys in your life and keep adding to it.

Carol ,can you watch Driving Miss Daisy?Fried Green Tomatoes? The Help? On Golden Pond ... those are some of my favorites
Well Miles fell asleep right after they left and was still asleep when they got back so easy babysitting for me..

Recent Dialog ... Sigh ...
Flea ... followed the link on the Island ... how neat! Enjoy your vacation!
Heather ... I'll be looking forward to your photos when available... Hope you enjoy your vacation as well.
Rita ... beautiful tomatoes!
Father's Day ... difficult for so many
Rita ...I’m with you.
We are soon off to Walmart ... which I rarely frequent and definitely not on the weekend ... but we are having a coffee dilemma. The past week our coffee has been abnormally weak. We have opened several containers of the same brand of coffee. Checked online… they have not recently changed blend or brew strength. The coffee maker is old and not worth the vinegar to clean it. So we will buy a new pot and use our regular coffee and see what happens.

Kj-well said.
Rita-hang in with us for a bit-I find your life so interesting and you teach me much. Love your memes today-just what is needed.
Carol-I don't watch movies often and I believe some of the series I watch may not be to your liking (I'm pretty open in my watching). Allie did give some good suggestions.
Beth-I totally understand your quandary. I thought my coffee maker was going out a while back. I had some Kohl's bucks I couldn't figure out what to use on. They had my cuisinart coffee make I like on sale for about the same as Kohls buck. I have a spare in my back room. Did similar thing with credit card points when credit union was making change-cashed them in for spare iron. I also have a back up chi flat iron I got at Marshalls for a ridiculously cheap price.

Carol ... when it's just me, I look for the Disney, Pixar and other animated children's films.

Good afternoon ladies!
Today is day 3 of my sister challenge. I ate 1126 calories. Yay! I rode my bike for twenty minutes. Yay! And I made a deficit of 75 calories. Okay for Sunday.
It's not exactly a cheat day, but on Sundays I relax a little. With weightlifting, they always say to take off one day a week. The trick is to maintain some kind of a deficit without exercise to beef up the numbers.

Now that I have REAL coffee in my system (it was the coffee pot no longer heating the water correctly), I have been rereading the posts for the last few pages and wanted to make a few comments.
Flea ... thank you for sharing about your son and your faith ...
Lisa ... the work you've put into your property shows and the flowers are beautiful!
Margaret... I have hydrangeas in my side yard. Each Easter I purchase one in memory of my son (he used to buy them for me on Mother's Day) for the church and then I plant it outside in my own little memorial garden. I am astounded with how hardy they can be! I'll post a picture when they are in bloom. This year's, of course, is past bloom and just setting down roots now.
Rita ... don't you dare go anywhere! Your posts are some of the most calming! Just scroll, scroll, scroll ...
Rebecca ... my goodness, how did falling bring so much pain to both feet? Did you fall onto something? Glad to hear you enjoyed your visit with your sister and her family!
I'm heading into the basement now to gather things up for a church's annual mission garage sale this week. I have a lot of been setting aside and I also want to go through a large (very large) pile of throws/blankets. We are over-run with them. I'll see how many my guys will let me get rid of ... they are both very sentimental about stuff ...but really, how many do you need?

Carol choosing movies is tricky. Jake and I just finished watching many seasons of a series that I loved. When he told his daughter about it, she said "I didn't know Barbie liked violence " I had enjoyed the characters and intrigue so much that I was able to ignore the violence.
Rita. Just keep scrolling, the upsetting stuff will go away
After along early morning walk, our trip to pick up groceries, an hour walk with my friend, and lunch, I took a nap 😴 What a great day. Time now for dinner and a movie
