Please note that, as a group, it was decided long, long ago that we don't put religion or politics into the mix. By refraining from politics and religion, we can all stay supportive and kind to each other regardless, and without starting interactions on the thread that don't further our aims for a healthy life. Many of us have been with this thread for years, some for over a decade, and it has lasted so long because of leaving those two things off the table.

I follow Dr. Karen Sullivan, a board certified neuropsychologist, on YouTube. Her channel is called "I Care for your Brain"
This week's video was "The Brain Science of Melatonin". Pretty interesting. I've noticed I tend to go to sleep quickly whether I take melatonin or not these days. This coming week (Tuesday) she's going to go into sleep aids and the brand of melatonin she recommends.
If anyone is interested, here's the link to this past week's video:

Mary -- That's a private group to which anyone in this group can join. I feel a little violated that you posted those messages here in public. Not to mention that they are years old and nothing has been posted in there for months. It was set up, I believe, out of respect for what we wish for this thread to be, as described by Barbie each month.

Debbie - I actually do love morning glories, and I know their proclivity to survive pretty much forever and spread their vines as far as they can. The white one is just one plant, and it was here when we got here. I was really ill the day Corey planted the purple ones. I asked him just to put them out in the space where we yanked the muscadine out last year. I had two year-old packets of seed, and wasn't sure they were even viable. He planted all of them, probably 30 seeds all told. Pretty sure they all came up, too... I'll just have to keep up with them. Whee!
Other than the drought times like last year, you can put a stick in the ground here and turn around and you'll see a tree by next week. OK, that's a mild exaggeration, but the soil here is just wildly fertile, warm springs and falls just add to the fertility all year long. Ninety percent of gardening here is trying to calm the plants down enough that they don't take over.
Just as a for instance, the muscadine vines that we yanked up were overtaking that same space... and I just pulled them up and shoved them into a bare space at the back fence, covered the roots that were left on them with some dirt. This is during the drought, too far away from the house to get water to them, even on the day I transplanted them. They are now growing like mad along that back fence.
I have always had the opposite of a green thumb, I could kill any plant out there just by looking at it sideways. Nice to know I can outgrow it!

Margaret - Your hydrangeas are gorgeous! It's one of those flowers that was everywhere when I was growing up, but I don't see as much of now.1

Yes. I love them, too. My paternal grandmother had the most gorgeous hydrangeas. They remind me of her. Mine are very sad looking. The flowers, apparently, were so brief this spring, I missed them.

Well, every so often it seems we get a controversy going. I learn much from you ladies. I think we get very comfortable talking with each other and forget some of the rules. Sometimes it sounds like we are sitting around the dorm late at night chatting up a storm. We could all probably use some self-reflection on some of what we post. My understanding of the private group is that what was discussed there was left there and by joining I agreed to that.
My current problem of the day-in sorting things I found an old memorandum of title for a car I traded in a couple of years ago-why do I hesitate to just shred such thing?
Lanette-all I know to do is to track my food (try to be honest) and move regularly. A couple of years ago I probably got too lean for my age and I couldn't maintain (especially after I quit smoking!). While my weight is higher now, it it still very much in the healthy BMI for my age group (I am 68). Just don't beat yourself up and do the best you can every day. I am working on taking off 10 lbs but it is going slow-which tends to work best for me.
Well, the stack of papers I am looking at out of the corner of my eye does not seem to be sorting itself so I better help it.
Take care all,

Barbie set up this thread to be neutral as far as poitical and religious views go. It is a tenet of this thread and very important to most of us. Those are the rules. If you don't like the rules, go elsewhere to let off steam. It's simple. Those are the rules. The separate discussion group was a different thing and should not be confused. It was set up, completely openly, for those who wanted that type of discussion. This thread is not the place. Our peace, and loving community is more important than any personal agenda. We are here to support each other, not to indulge in indignation.

I think that I have heard from several of you saying that every thing that you post is for the public to read. And several of you have cautioned people not to post things that they don’t want others to read.3

I have one hydrangea and it is the same color- Had two but one didn't survive the winter. This one is doing well. I have to prune back the jasmine as soon as it is done blooming so I can really see the hydrangea.
Going to try taking some cuttings of a purple one and see if I can get it to grow.

Ack! Got distracted earlier, and meant to tell y'all the flip side of living here with all the flowers and growing plants. Yesterday morning, I watched a deer and fawn with its baby spots wander through our front yard, and once they left, I drove to our little community store to pick up a few things... Pulled back up under our carport, got out of the car and turned to walk around it, and was face-to-face with a snake, deep gray body with black smudgy markings, probably 4 and 1/2 or 5 feet long.
I froze, but had presence of mind enough to note the rounded head (venomous snakes here tend to have a shovel-shaped or triangular head). It wasn't coiled up or feeling threatened, but was quite interested in me, and started moving toward me. I unfroze and went in the house (OK, I fled into the house) and let my adrenaline subside before I went back out and got my grocery bags. The snake had moved on, thank goodness. The internet tells me it was probably a rat snake, so quite beneficial here in keeping the rodent population under control.
Life in the country is always interesting.

Oh, Lisa! I am completely icky about snakes, but you are right, if it was a rat snake, which it sounds like, it is your friend. In Kansas, we had one or two who lived on our property. I stayed away from them as much as I could, and when I saw that they were swallowing something, I quietly thanked them and left them alone.

The pictures that I posted were taken from the Women over 50 + group page of which the majority of us ladies are in that group, and are only the different discussion threads which the majority of all of us can look at at any time. No one would have been able to open any of those discussion threads without going on the group page and accessing them that way and just about everyone on here can access them if they want. So those of you that are concerned that I posted that then maybe you shouldn’t have said something that you didn’t want everybody to know what you said?? although again, about 95% of everybody on here can look at that anytime they want to because they belong to that group! And quite possibly, maybe you’re afraid that some of the things you said on there others would take offense to?? again it’s a public forum! Maybe it’s against MFP rules??1

I was wrong, I did participate on the Beth Moore Trumpism thread. Mainly because someone wanted to know why people would support President Trump. I think everybody should read that whole thread. There were people that respected opinions of others, and other people that totally bashed me and others, for having a different opinion than theirs. If you would read, I never bashed anyone. I only gave my honest opinion, and the opinion of well-known Christian leaders like Franklin Graham.

Heather - I agree. And I think this group has evolved over the past few years.
I know I am more focused on how I can live my life in peace today. Consequently, I use the "ignore" button once in a while when a poster or discussion gets wearisome for me. This feature doesn't always work (maybe a glitch?) but helps.

Terri: That's terrific that your DH does yoga!
Heather: Great you have been working on Norwegian! and also Great that you made an outfit out of a 40 year old black sequined top!
Machka: Wow! What a trip! A trip of a lifetime!
Carol: Hope you feel better!
DerbyRose: I love getting up at 6am when I have had enough rest! I love mornings!
Rebecca: Sorry about your injury!
Flea: Thinking bout you and your family!
Katla: I hope you enjoy the momentos that were sent to you!
Lisa: The flowers are beautiful!
RV Rita: Wow! Those tomatoes look terrific!
Debbie: Glad you have a week end planned to see your Mom!
Betsy: Glad Jack's ashes are in a place that is special for him.
I left knitting class early today to bring a friend lunch who is now on oxygen and mostly home bound. She has trouble doing her laundry and washing her hair now. We had a good talk. Tomorrow I will bring her lunch again as her family is gathering out of town for Father's day. My son offered to come for Father's day but I encouraged him to see his wife's side of the family. Hope everyone has a good Saturday evening!
Best,

I don't know about MFP rules. The private group is not accessible or searchable by anyone not in that group. I would not consider it a "public" forum since people have to ask to join and be admitted. That's the issue. Anything we post in this thread can be googled and found. Not so with the group. It's not about people in this thread seeing them, it's the whole world that could become a problem for some. I'm not ashamed of anything we discussed. We did not talk about people, just issues. It was a safe space, and it doesn't feel so safe anymore if we are going to copy and paste what people said into a public forum that anyone in the world could see. It's the same reason I don't text my niece anything really personal. She copies other people's texts and sends them to me all the time. Not appropriate. And if she does it to others, she will do it to me.
Perhaps you didn't understand the difference between the group and this forum, but for privacy, there's a big difference.

Thanks Flea,
I went over to the group and am copying and pasting what was written as the "rules" This was posted by the group leader. And by copying and pasting the comments over the rules were broken. This is not about not being willing to share among ourselves but by sharing with the general public.
"You will probably read opinions here which are not the same as your own. If you do not want to read opinions that aren't the same as your own, this is probably not a comfortable place for you.
Every person posting here deserves your respect, and if you do not feel you can give that, your silence will do.
Personal attacks on another member of the group will get you banned from the group. Period, and at this point, I'm both the judge and the jury.
What's said in this group stays in this group--please do not take these discussions back over to our monthly thread.
If someone else wants to act as a leader of the group, please let me know."

Good evening ladies!
Yay for hydrangeas!
Yay for mice-eating snakes, as long as they stay far away from me!
Karen, I love that painting!
Today I ate 1083 calories. Yay! And I rode my bike for twenty minutes, and did my dumbbells. Yay! I had a deficit of 403! Yay! That is the score for day 2 of my sister challenge.
Tomorrow will be tricky. Sunday I normally don't exercise, but I might do the bike. And I might skip my usual ice cream. Because I was maintaining, and I have to work harder to see a loss.

Well my trip down the rabbit hole this evening was on genealogy. I hade gotten an email about information about a great grandfather. While looking at it decided to add one of my mom's half sister. Got her basic information and decided to add her husband-one of my favorite uncles. Went searching for their marriage record and have had no luck finding it. Discovered he had previous marriage and son from that marriage (that rang a bell in the back of my mind). I even signed up for Ancestry free trial even though I have everything on family search. Nothing for marriage record. I find her name changed to his and they are listed as husband and wife. Has me wondering about the two of them!
Oh well-that was a good distraction and it doesn't matter to me if thy were legal-they were fun!
Off to rest. Take care all,
