I have enjoyed all the sharing about flowers. My flower knowledge is limited, not as limited as my friend who said that she didn't know a weed from a flower without a program. I can recognize the various bulb flowers I've planted (crocus, hyacinth, iris, daffodil, tulip, gladiola) and peonies, roses, lilac, wisteria, and daisies. My daily walking friend is a Master Gardener and recognizes and knows all the flowers and plants in the neighborhood and tells me about everything as they begin blooming. My Sunday walking friend grew up in Texas and talks a lot about the differences between what grows in Texas and in Washington. One of the reasons I wanted us to identify ourselves by location was to give some context when we talked about the plants in our yards. Thank you for all your sharing.
Lanette, One big reason that I can shop only bi monthly at Costco and limit my other shopping to weekly curbside pickup at one grocery store is that we eat the same things all the time. There is no impulse shopping for "something that looks interesting" and no hearing about a food on TV and deciding to fix something different at the last minute. Good planning and simple eating have been good for us.
Heather, Thank you for sharing the preparation for your trip. That is as interesting to me as the actual trip will be.
We just finished watching the final season of a show we have enjoyed and it feels like we have said good by to good friends. I often feel that way at the end of a book. The difference with the TV show is that Jake and I have watched together so it is a shared sadness.

For those who are upset about the publication of your private posts from a private group into this public thread, please note that I will be in touch with the moderators to delete the entire group, in order to avoid further violations. To those who might be a little confused, I am not talking about deleting this thread that you are reading at all, but a completely separate group.
I would delete it myself now, but when I built it in 2017, I was using a different email to sign in, and MFPs system just will not let me re-enter with that sign-in or let me delete it as a moderator. As Kim showed above, it was set up to be a private, safe place to take contentious posts to another space, and work things out there. Frustrating to know that your safety and privacy has been violated so badly. Trying to fix it as hard as I can, but it may take a little while.15 -

check out what dh came home with. It was downstairs at his mom's house- She had left the door open and it went in and she couldn't get it out. Dh went over- called me, said there was a bird in her house. He took the picture and sent it to me- thought it was going to be a sparrow or other wild bird- nope, baby chick. Must have come from the neighbor is our guess but they are out of town until Tues.
We went and got chick food and medicine for the water.
It will hang out in a beanie hat tucked in my shirt most of the time but has a box to eat/drink in and hang out in.

Oh Wow Debbie, what a cutie!1

Debbie - your chick almost reminds me of a baby pheasant or quail with the markings on the head like that. I'm sure it will be a stunning adult! It looks happy all "tucked in".
What do your kitties think of it?

mom said the same thing about the markings. The guy at Tractor Supply said an Easter egger or some other chicken. Mom has Aracana/Easter Egg chickens so will fit in there if it doestnt belong to MIL's neighbor. He also said most likely wont survive being the only one. Going to try. All I can do.
Cats are ignoring it for the most part. Keeping an eye on him all the time.4 -
And this is why I don’t comment a lot on topics here, especially politics and religion. I just scroll and answer a question if someone is asking me specifically.10

Wednesday did KettleWorx Fast Fat Burn DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do KettleWorx Legs and Thighs DVD.
Working on my gecko at ceramics. Put my kissy fish in to be fired so I should be able to pick that up Monday.
For the life of me I’ll never understand this “labor is down” stuff at BK. To me, you want to be showing a profit at the end of the day, not hour by hour. You can’t predict when you are going to be busy and when you’re not. If you’re not and you send someone home, what happens when you do get busy? Then you don’t have the help for the customer. They’ve been running out of tomatoes again. I used to really get concerned, but I’ve gotten to the point of “why bother? They’re going to do what they want to do”. To me, it just doesn’t make profitable sense to have someone who is paid more than I am doing my job. But they do for “labor” sake.
Been in the pool every day that I can. The water even got warm enough so that I can get my whole body in and exercise. Yeaaaaa
Still trying to walk around the block each day. Honestly, I have said to Vince so many times “are you ready (to go for our walk). I really think if I didn’t say something, he wouldn’t go. How many times I’ve gotten the “I don’t have my shoes or shirt on” “so put them on” Then he does go, sometimes not for very far. But at least he does go.
Lanette – so sorry about the bite. Hope it’s better soon
Tracey – so sorry about your daughter’s dog. You’re so right. Pets get a special place in our hearts. Happy Anniversary
Evelyn – Jerry’s wife is the sweetest. Kindest person you would ever meet. I honestly don’t think she’d hurt a fly on the wall, she’s so sweet. Yes, she has physical and emotional problems, but she’s so dear. Complete opposite of Jerry.
Prayers to everyone who needs them and hugs to everyone who needs them
Mowed part of the lawn (the part I keep). The grass was getting tall. Didn’t weedwack, tho
Found these “cookie dough Twix” bars. Jess likes Twix so I bought one bag. Fortunately, we’re going to see her tomorrow (we’re driving up there) so I’ll take them to her and out of the house.
Made dog treats for her to take up there. Tomorrow want to make this cheese taco thing to take up.
Heather – you’ll be the bell of the ball on that cruise
Went to Replacements Wed but my GPS got me totally lost (I don’t understand its algorithm) so I came home and have another appt this wed. to pick up some (what I thought was) crystal and see if they’re interested in any of the jewelry I have
So far behind that I’m going to have to skim. Apologies to anyone I’ve missed
Flea – great news from the oncologist
Allie – extra hugs. The therapist said “no more therapy”?
They have some sort of summer interns at the soup kitchen so she’ll let me know when she needs me this summer
Rori – so happy for you
Rebecca – happy birthday. OUCH with the fall
Terri – I really need to do some yoga. I’ve lost so much. Wish Vince would do it, but I know that won’t happen. I can hear it now “real men don’t do yoga” (yea, right)
Debbie – AWWWWWW
The other night there was a cat in the road who wouldn’t move. When I finally got out of the car he went away and I could see it was badly hurt. Well, a neighbor said he got it, took it to the vet, but it was so feral and the injuries were so extensive that they had to put it down.
Will be going to the dentist Thurs. for a root canal. Got a crown and one of the pins is pushing on the nerve. He gave me antibiotics and the nerve quieted down some but I can still feel it. I do think that it will come back so having the root canal now.
Went to the Green Room tonight to see “Last Roundup of the Guacamole Queens”. Funny show.
Been working on stringing the popcorn for the Christmas trees. Lectored at the church tonight.

Lanette
Cloudy and chilly but refreshing SW WA State
I have been active since I could crawl and was slim but muscular and fit until I hit my early-40s when I started to put on some weight.
When I would get to a certain weight ... usually as I stepped into the Overweight category from the Normal category (BMI), I would cut back on the amount I ate and increase my activity, and I would lose weight. So from my early-40s until I reached 47, I was more or less controlling my weight with ups and downs.
When I was 47, I gained weight and hit a new high weight. A lot of that was related to some health issues, moving to a new state, starting a new job, stress in general.
In December 2014, I decided it was really time to lose weight and I dropped a few kg early throughout the month. At the end of the month, I was diagnosed with precancer of "the female parts" and was rushed into surgery, plus they found a lump in my breast which was biopsied in early January. I regained what I had lost and was in a low place.
Mid February, 2015 I joined MFP determined to lose weight ... just before I turned 48.
Over the next 15 weeks, I dropped 15 kg. I was on a mission!
Then I took a diet break and we spent a month in Canada.
When I returned, I had put on a couple kg, which I lost fairly quickly again. Then I eased up on the diet aspect and lost another 10 kg by Christmas.
From here:
To here:
Then my husband and I really started focusing on cycling our long distances again. We were pedalling like mad and I was keeping the weight off.
This was in 2016
This in 2017 when I was several months into age 50
And then my husband had a workplace accident which resulted in a severe traumatic brain injury, and I have packed the weight back on. In early April this year, I edged above my previous high weight.
Fortunately I have lost 4 kg since then and am (hopefully) on a downward trend.
How do I do it?
I eat less and exercise lots.
I haven't tracked my food since 2015 when I was on a mission to lose weight and lost 25 kg (55 lbs). But I do track my exercise. I've been tracking my exercise since 1990. It's just a thing I do.
I don't follow any diets or plans.
I don't use apple cider vinegar or do any detoxes.
I don't worry about the time I eat or eating before or after a certain time.
I don't track macros or worry about my protein intake.
My diet leans toward being a vegetarian version of the Mediterranean diet if a person was pushed to define it.
I discovered that I've been doing intermittent fasting for decades without knowing what it was called.
I don't drink my calories.
I simply do this:
11:30 am - I have a cheese and cracker snack
2:00 pm - I have rice, chicken and veggies
3:30 pm - I have a low cal yogurt
4:00 pm - I have a piece of fruit
4:30 pm - I have another piece of fruit if I'm hungry
7:00 pm - We have dinner
8 pm - We have dessert
I walk as part of my commute.
I walk at lunch.
I climb copious quantities of stairs during the day.
I cycle, walk, run, row, lift weights, etc. on the weekends and sometimes in the evenings too.
I rarely have a day off exercising.
We know that we lose weight through breathing (see articles I've posted previously or do your own google search), so I like to exercise to the point where I am huffing and puffing. That means when I walk, I don't stroll.
And I lose weight.
Oh, I also like to spend as much time as possible outside in the fresh air, in nature.

Just pulling this out of the Group before the Group is deleted ...
MyFitnessPal has several sections. One section is where we go to enter our exercise and food and to participate on the newsfeed with our friends. Another section is the forum.
The MFP forum contains several subforums or "Categories".
Within each subforum or "Category", there are a whole lot of threads. For example, within the Motivation and Support subforum or "Category", there is a long collection of Women Ages 50+ {month, year} threads. And Barbie starts a new thread each month.
Within each thread, there are lots of posts.
That's how we see it because there is a reasonably decent user interface for us to work with.
However, all the posts from all the threads go into a table in a database behind the scenes (pretty much).
Search engines and others who might be interested in forum data see the table in the database.
Many forum tables and databases aren't protected and are freely available to search engines, etc.
In the case of our Groups here, the posts go into a protected table in the database (or a different database), so search engines etc. have a harder time seeing what's posted. Some whole forums have that level of protection ... they'll be the ones you have to sign up for before you can see the subforums, threads, and posts.
Forum data on it's own is probably mostly not that interesting, but it may become interesting through data linkage.
Incidentally, if you want a look at the MyFitnessPal rules go here:

Awake early again! I don't know how much excitement I can stand!
I'm always like this before I go away, especially for a long trip. I used to let it get me down, but now I am more accepting of myself and I know many others go through the same thing. At this point, I used to think, is it worth it, maybe I should just stay at home, but now I just know it most definitely is, and I can live with a few butterflies for a few days.
DH will help me carry the stuff downstairs this morning and put it on the living room rug. I will then pack one and a half suitcases! DH will do the same after me. We both feel that bumping three large, full, suitcases down the stairs when you are well over 70 is not such a great idea. Plus my hand is not 100%. I have a personal bag I don't let out of my sight, with medication, jewellery, chargers, tablet, and make-up in, plus a handbag (purse). Fortunately, once the big luggage is in our hall, we don't have to touch it again until it arrives in our suite. If we were flying and going under our own steam, it would be a different matter.
I'm happy with all my choices and usually manage to wear everything. My travelling outfit is chosen and hanging over the banisters.
Lanette - I am somewhat annoyed with myself for putting weight back on . Recently my activity levels went down because of my wrist break, and I think I comfort ate a bit as well. I have just now started adding a bit more exercise every day and have been able to resume a bit of rowing in short bouts. Not being able to row was a blow to my calorie expenditure. Then with the thigh strain, my resumed jogging also stopped.
I agree with Machka. I have stopped calorie intake counting, and I am concentrating on getting back to fitness. We have an exercise room with a rowing machine, an elliptical, and a recumbent bike. I will also moderate my eating, especially in the carbs area, but I am not going to 'diet'. Sensible, healthy, eating, basically 'Mediterranean ', and gradually increasing my exercise, should see me more comfortable in my skin and clothes. I am always very active on the cruise, doing my beloved dancing, and a gym session on sea days. And loads of stairs! We never take the lift. We walk a lot on port days, so I hope my thigh holds out.
I will not be able to post any photos until we arrive in Norway. The ship WiFi is not brilliant. I have to shut off data on my phone until we hit the Norwegian coast, because my phone plan does not include the rest of Europe, only Norway, and I don't want it charging me for sailing past France, Germany, Denmark etc! I hope to send one or two photos when we are there, but I won't be doing an extended travelogue. I will tell you all about it when we get back home.
No doubt I will post again before we leave.
Lots of love to all - eat well, move a lot, love even more.

Have a wonderful trip, Heather.
We leave very early Friday morning for Belize. We are taking younger and middle son. Middle son hasn't been out of the country before, so this will be a great adventure for him. We will be in Belize for about 10 days, with a one day excursion into Guatemala, and then the final three days on the Yucatan peninsula. The two boys haven't been to Tulum or Chichen Itza, so we are keen to take them. Tulum is my favorite place on earth, so far! My husband went in with a group of people to buy a small island off the coast of Belize last year, and we are camping on the island overnight. It will be amazing!

Karen -- your brother's art is so beautiful. I love the most recent painting you posted.

Lisa: Many thanks.
I think the recent exchange demonstrates very clearly why the private group came into existence in the first place.
Some of us had a genuine desire to know the whys and wherefores, and the very content of some of the matters covered meant that discussions would be heated at times.
Although I have no reason to be embarrassed by anything I said there, I am disappointed that someone took it upon themselves to do the very thing that the private group was set up to avoid, and disrespected privacy of the other group, and brought discord to the wonderful, supportive space set up by Barbie here.
It’s done now! Let’s draw a line under it and move on.

Have a super time Flea I know you have been there diving before.
We did the Yucatan several years ago, went all over for two weeks. I ate something bad and was very ill. I still loved it, but I was very, very sick. Days in bed in the jungle. So, please, please be super careful. I ate something off at breakfast in a good hotel.
Karen - fabulous art from your brother. I sometimes hope to do something like that, but it is never as good. Somehow goes in another direction.
The most useful thing I take on cruises is a little leather bag with a long strap. In it, I carry the cabin key card, lipstick, powder, a comb, tiny folding spectacles, and my phone. That way, I can move around the ship without having to go back to the cabin. I take my backpack handbag on trips out.
The bag is going in my precious hand luggage.

Terri-well said, thank you.
Heatherand Flea-I am not going to anywhere as exotic as you two, but my trip to Arizona next week will have me with two of my grandchildren and their parents. I am deciding what items to take with me today and pre-pack. This allows me to make better choices. I thought of just taking an under seat bag and a carryon but don't think lifting a suitcase overhead is sensible after my surgery last fall. I get a free checked bag so will take advantage of that. I did get a new under seat bag on wheels. I am finding filled backpacks to be a bit much-could I actually be getting old?!
Heather-I understand your frustration. My surgery last fall impacted my activity for several months and I am not happy mainly due to muscle tone in my mid section. I am just going to continue doing my positive things and will improve.
I am on a roll with clearing out papers and some organizing-decluttering is a release. This morning-the bathroom closet! I am not even certain what I will find in there-but I am sure there are outdated medicines and other unused things. It bothers me it is so congested I don't know what I have and am certain I have bought duplicates (or more) that have not been needed.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio5 -
Sunday
6.4 km walking plus 2 flights of stairs.
I didn't exercise yesterday
I was restless today and needed to walk.
What did you do for exercise today?
Machka in Oz2 -
Ginny: I cleared out my bathroom recently. I need to do it again 😝 It’s a never-ending story.
Heather: Thats the size of my everyday hand bag, and I have a backpack that I use on outings. I would love the convenience of door-to-door cruising, but unfortunately, there are no cruises which depart from Ireland at the moment. Have a lovely trip. Looking forward to reading all about it. I get the butterflies too 😝
We haven’t booked any holiday, but we are planning to take advantage of our beautiful scenery in Ireland. We did a road trip a few years ago down to Cork and up along the Atlantic Coast. That could be a possibility. And of course a few weekends away in other beauty spots and days out, if the spirit moves us.
Machka: Exercise today so far has been walking. It’s Father’s Day here, and DYD is here for coffee. We are going to visit DED after lunch.
They are forecasting thunderstorms with possible hail later today, but at the moment I’m enjoying the balmy sunshine and birdsong in our back garden
☘️ Terri2 -
Machka: Yesterday I walked but it is 7 am and I am quite tired this morning. I had trouble getting to sleep because it is our first Father's Day without Paul. Maybe I will go back to sleep and see a friend for lunch and then walk at the gym this afternoon. It is getting too humid outside to walk.
Best,
Rosemarie from Georgia9 -
Good morning ladies!
I usually don't exercise on Sunday, but today I might do my stationary bike some. It's a very simple one, with just a few numbers displayed, and it runs on a little battery. No computer attached. I use my phone for music on a table nearby.
During the week Monday Wednesday Friday I also do a dumbbell routine with stretches and sit-ups,
planks, squats, lunges, etc. Then on Tuesday Thursday and Saturday I do yoga from a YouTube video from Yoga with Adrienne, and aerobic walking from a Leslie Sansone YouTube video.
It sounds like a lot of exercise, but I move slowly and carefully so it isn't as many calories burned as you might think.
I eat low calorie, on a good day under 1100. If I eat my protein and fiber as planned, I don't really get hungry. However, any kind of frustration, like with my computer or with my parents, leads me straight to the sweets. So I have mixed success.
My sister is coming to visit July 24, so I am on a sister challenge, trying to lose a bit before then. It's day 3, and so far so good.
That's my plan!

@Machka9 - Sent you an MFP message. Sometimes, those don't get through, but hopefully you can see it.
Terri - Thank you, and agreed. Line drawn, moving on...
Karen - Your brother's works always stir emotions for me. Thank you for posting them.
Heather - I find it so frustrating to seldom (if ever) be able to paint what I envision in my mind, so I understand. I admire your determination to keep at it. It's been a long time since I picked up a brush.
Was up at 5 a.m., far too early, but couldn't go back to sleep. Lost an hour of sleep during the night, too. A storm blew in about 1 a.m., and because the nights are cool, we keep our windows open. Doors were rattling, things were falling off tables, so I went around and shut most of them, but had to get Corey up to close our bedroom window, which I can't reach without a step ladder and then perching on the top of our dresser.
Still soaking wet outside from the storm, but the air is still now. Lots of small branches broke off, but the big trees seemed to survive intact. When I looked out the windows I was closing, the wind was lashing the big trees into a frenzied dance. Beautiful, but a little scary.
Well, Corey's up, and made his first cup of coffee, and I have laundry to get in the dryer and then get folded and put away. That's pretty much my only ambition for the day. Here's to a peaceful Sunday.

Flea, Your trip sounds delightful. I hope you can enjoy every minute of it. I look forward to the report when you get back.
Debbie, the chick is darling. Be sure to tell us the chapters as they happen.
My daily exercise lately has been about two hours of walking in my neighborhood in the morning, 30+ minutes working in my yard, and a few hours riding the exercise bike while watching TV or reading. I do a bit of yoga but want to do more.

Did KettleWorx Legs and Thighs DVD today then took my walk. We’re going to be leaving in a few to go to Jess’
I was always in the 129-132 weight category – until a few years ago. I can’t seem to get under 133 now. It may not seems like much and I haven’t gained inches, but Mother Nature is doing her thing and things are going south. Which frustrates me.
Heather – will you see Penny while you’re in Norway? Have a great trip
Flea – you, too, have a great trip. Wow! Your own island!
Terri – I agree, let’s move on. Nothing can be accomplished from dwelling on this. What’s done is done and can’t be undone. So let’s just accept that and go from there
barbie – you do all that walking in your neighborhood. Do you have different scenery? I get somewhat bored going around our block – always the same scenery. That’s one of the things I like about walking in FL. I can always go someplace different.
Well, time to leave for Jess’
