Happy Canada Day - July 1
Pip, I thought of you as I took my morning walk. I walk first with Bessie, the slow walking dog, and my dog walking friend. After about 15 minutes Bessie is ready to go home. Then my friend and I walk for 45 minutes til she's ready to go home. Then I walk by myself with headphones and an audio book for another hour or so. When I left the house at 5:40 it was light and 49 degrees. I wore a coat and sweatshirt and long pants. When I got home I had unzipped my jacket and it was 57 degrees. What a contrast to your walk. We are both committed to our dogs and our walks but they are different in so many ways. When I lived in Redding, CA where is often in the 90's overnight in the summer, I walked Shilo, the Golden Retriever early enough to be home shortly after sunrise because of the heat.
Margaret, I admire all the research you do and share with us.

I am delighted to see a hummingbird feeding at my window two times this morning. I like using Perky-Pet feeders & was able buy two new ones. I have one perched on the feeder on my window now. 😊
We left our feeders on the windows when we moved to here in Illinios. Neighbors in our old home in Oregon have been good to fill the feeders for the hummingbirds there. ❤️

Happy Canada Day to our northern sisters...
Tracey - I'm so pleased your letter is in and you can breathe again.
My anniversary gift, a mulberry tree, came in yesterday, and Corey's planting it for me. It's nearly 90 and getting hotter, and I lose my breath too quickly to stay out for more than a few moments. He's having to shoulder so much of the work around here, I just hate it that I can't help. So much love in that man for me, and for this place, it just staggers me.

Tracey - now that you have the letter, what's the next step? Do you send it to your employer to extend your time off? So glad it arrived! One of the main reasons I go to the store sometimes twice a week is to replenish my stash of bagged lettuce and coleslaw mix, I know I would miss them a lot of they weren't available. I just can't seem to grow lettuce worth a darn and I eat a lot of it. Enjoy your fireworks, glad to hear the rain is back. We are both lucky to have brothers who are mechanics to call for advice.
Allie - Happy Birthday and so happy to see you enjoying the weekend. Neat story about the picture and chair.
Heather - love the Fjord photos, and thank you again for sharing your trip with us. I also wanted to comment on your leggings - very becoming, I especially like the color and pattern.
Joy - kudos on the lettuce crop. My neighbor across the street grows wonderful lettuce in her greenhouse, which is surprising to me because I always thought it liked the cooler weather but it probably depends on the type of lettuce.
Cathy from Tampa - welcome to our thread. And others of you who have recently popped in!
I wanted to take a minute to reflect on how this group has benefitted me since I joined in December 2016:
*Advice on various forms of intermittent Fasting long before it was "the thing."
*Suggestions for improving my all over health and bloodwork. What has worked best for many of you.
*Introduction to strength training and great advice on exercising and exercise equipment.
*Inspiring stories of health regained despite situations which set us back a little.
*Supportive conversations about caregiving, ill spouses, parents and children; widowhood and how we
can take care of ourselves throughout these difficult phases of our lives.
*Advice and support for a potpourri of topics including gardening, car maintenance, pets, difficult friendships, boundaries, vacations, cruises - the list is huge!
*Friends - some which have continued on Facebook or via email outside this group. We are always
here to share your joy and gratitude. And sympathy and understanding for those going through
tough times. I am continually learning from you all.
*** I could go on and on. Another reminder that we stay away from political and religious topics - we want this to remain a safe place for everyone. There are plenty of other places on social media to discuss controversial issues.
It's been a great morning so far. Long walk with my neighbor, nice visit across the fence with my 92 year old neighbor, did some weed eating without falling into a hole this time.
Make it a great weekend. Praying for rain, cooler temps and clean air for those who need it!

A comment about political and religious topics. If I say that I voted or attended a service in my faith, that is fine. But if I make a case for whomever I voted for or whatever spiritual path I follow, then it is off limits here. It's the same thing as describing my eating and exercising. I just don't tell you my way is right and you should follow it too.

Chatted this evening with a very interesting couple on the next table. She was Finnish and married her husband 57 years ago. He was an Egyptian Jew, who came over in 1956 to escape persecution. Such amazing histories.
The sail out today to the next port is entirely inland. Fjords are long and join each other. We have nothing booked for Åndalsnes, but will wander about and have a quiet day.
On the way out of the fjord we stopped at the Seven Sisters waterfall.
So lucky.

Good Morning All,
I am new to this discussion group and to the MFP App. I am 65 yrs old and overweight! I live in Tampa, FL where the humidity is off the charts right now. Last year I lost over 20 lbs and I was feeling great. I was walking 2 ro 3 Liles a day and for me that's quite an accomplishment since I have Fibromyalgia and back issues BUT LIFE HAPPENED and my husband had one hospital event after another and slowly the weight I lost started packing back on my body and plus an extra 5 lbs. I stopped walking amd stopped tracking and was eating badly thru the stress. I know these events should not be an excuse but this is my story. I say all this because I really need the support. Today is my day #1 to my healthy journey. Happy 4th of July to each of you ❤️
I am such a foodie, as my sons are all adults now. Gone are the days of my eating just leftover chicken nuggets, or leftover toasted cheese sandwiches. I find it amazing that now I buy the good things like veggies and actually eat them on a regular basis. They aren't just for show in my crisper drawer🙃😂. I have also honed in my eating to fix things that I like, and then either fix for husband like a chef, or he fixes it. He is not a foodie and is happy with soup from a can (uck!), and hamburger helper. My go to thing is to saute' some cut mushrooms with sweet onion. Then it can become anything. Taco meat, or soup, or a stew. I tend to add as protein either chicken (cut up precooked roasted chicken from the supermarket), cut up kielbasa sausage, a small steak cup up, shrimp (deveined and cooked). I add either boiled cubed poatoes, cabbage, wild rice (just pre cook wild rice in my rice cooker and press into containers and put in fridge), hearty grain bread, or a hearty pasta like campanelle, or cavatappi. I always simmer the chicken carcass adding lots of turmeric and cayenne pepper. Then I freeze it in ice cube trays to put in zip lock bags in the freezer. My go to veggies are cabbage, spinach, bag salad, zucchini, mushrooms, sweet yellow onion, bok choy, broccoli. I love eating vinegar laced foods like fridge pickled cucumbers, quick Cole slaw, and I drink apple cider vinegar (Braggs make one with cayenne pepper and honey) and mix it with a Fresca. 👍🏼💖

Congrats on losing twenty pounds previously. Sounds like you know what works for you so you are ahead of the learning curve. Sorry to hear your husband had medical issues, hope that settled down.
I think I missed a few other new ladies, welcome everyone!
I'm not doing much today, just dyeing my hair this afternoon. But I am in the middle of a sister challenge. My sister is visiting July 24, and I want to lose a bit before then.

I have been enjoying humming birds drinking sugar water in the feeder at my window. They seem to visit the feeder in the mornings & evenings. Watching them is a pleasure.
I fell in love with hummingbirds when we lived in Oregon, and I am delighted to see them here in Illinois. ❤️

Good evening ladies!
Today is day 16 of my sister challenge. 23 days to go. I ate 1193 calories which is pretty good. Yay! I had an extra yogurt when I was hungry and that was a smart choice. I did thirty minutes on my bike, with one quick sprint, and then my dumbbells. Yay! And my deficit came out to 402 calories. Yay!
Sunday is always my high calorie day, but I will have to be extra good because I already had a cheat day. And I have a lunch date Tuesday.
And I dyed my hair with henna. It looks great except where it got into my ear. Lol! I think I got it all out.

Just worked today and went in the pool, to lector at the church, then for my walk. This pedometer says that it’s about a mile around the block. No work tomorrow so the plan is to do the Tear it Up DVD, go for a walk (probably to Food Lion to get potato chips on sale for Vince) then WalMart, Vince said something about cutting the grass tomorrow. I do sometime tomorrow want to make a banana bread.
Barbara – “bag of Chispas”. When I first read this (fast), I read “bag of Chips”...lol
Tracey – yes, the city owns the ceramics place.
Went into church and the sun was shining. About 87 degrees. Came out to a torrential downpour. And me without an umbrella!
Katla – so very glad for you that you had a hummingbird. I know how much you love them.
Barbie – I would never have thought that the color of a car would affect its price! All our vehicles are silver. Well, TECHNICALLY mine is gray, but it sure looks silver
Heather – just breathtaking
Happy Canada day!
Thecat – I’m so sorry about your husband. I’m hoping he’s better now
Welcome everyone new! I know I missed some before
Lanette – this group has helped me, too, in so many ways
Made a tofu chocolate pie for the lady at ceramics. Of course, I don’t tell Vince there’s tofu in it...lol

Allie-Happy Birthday!
Heather-Amazing photos! What an experience!!
Enjoyed some pool time today and did some stretching exercises for my hips as my right has been bothering from the increased walking this vacation. Did a shorter walk late this evening and boy did that hip hurt. But I’ve officially exercised 7 days in a row for the first time in about 9 months.
Hope you all had a great Saturday.

I had lost all sorts of weight in 2015, kept it off in 2016 and 2017, but in early 2018, my husband had a workplace accident which resulted in a severe traumatic brain injury ... and I've gained it all back.
However, I have been diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease (early stage) because of highish blood pressure and stress, so I need to lose the weight and get my BP down. I started focusing on it again in mid-April.
One day at a time!

Heather: The pictures are glorious!
The Cat: I am sorry your husband had medical problems! I was a caregiver for my husband and resorted to Coca Cola for energy. Of course, I gained weight drinking the sodas. So now, I am on the road to try and lose 20 pounds!
Annie: I have pretty much given up on finding a bra that works. The straps on bras drive me crazy!
I went to my first WW meeting today. It was pretty good. One lady who has lost weight says she gets up every hour and does 500 steps. That is only about 5 minutes I think. I think I can make sure I do 500 steps an hour.
I ventured out to a town about 25 miles away this evening and sat in a field and listened to live music and watched the children play. It was the first time in 7 years...maybe longer that I have been able to celebrate July 4th by going to a concert. Very bittersweet. I am proud that I did this. The temptation is to just sit in the recliner.14 -

LeeAnne congrats on your 7 day streak!
Rosmarie Brava for venturing out to the concert.
Lettuce: the “six pack” of red romaine I bought at the master gardeners’ plant sale divided out to more than 20 starts. Some are doing well, others not so much, but I’ve gotten 3 big salads from the trimmings. The green romaine in the stores has been ugly, when it was available at all. Thinking I’ll make coleslaw for awhile
Machka, Terri, Rebecca you inspire me to try my hand at the word cloud https://wordart.com/create07/01: Move: 2 sets PT w/x&a, dog group, Jeopardy walking. Steps:7914Later, lighter, lovelies!

Barbie - my internal dialogue causes me a lot of stress and worry too. I have learned how to quiet it some, but found when I do I’m not prepared for something so it backfires on me.
Beth - I don’t have the physical stamina anymore either. I think a lot of mine is I am just totally beat. I am going to start walking again this month. I need to for my health, not just weight, but the mental break as well.
Heather - What an amazing view to wake up to!
Joy - is lettuce something I could plant in a planter? Is it too late to do that in our area if I can?
Cathy - Welcome.
Margaret - I find myself naturally taking deep breaths when I’m stressed.
DrewB is very fortunate to have you.
Annie - I absolutely hate bras. I think we need a “bra burning” era again. I read in the not so distant past that it’s now been shown that wearing bras has made our muscles weak and that we would be better off going without them. I very rarely wear one at home, unfortunately society hasn’t caught up yet.
Katla - I’m so happy your new feeders are attracting hummingbirds, I know how much you enjoy them. My grandmother and mother used to really enjoy them as well.
Lisa - I don’t know that I have ever seen a mulberry tree. You’ll have to send us a picture.
Lanette - I forwarded the letter to my HR yesterday. She is off until Wednesday so I don’t expect to hear anything until then. I think they shorted my pay as my previous letter had expired. I may need to contact a lawyer again to see if that’s legal, if they don’t pay it. It’s such a game they are playing, I know it’s how they operate as I have been privy to how others were treated. I just want to get paid what I am owed and not have to worry if it’s going to be done properly or not. I have sick days to cover me until end of August and my doctor has put me off until mid September.
I will never be returning there, I would be more harassed and bullied than I was before.
We had an eventful Canada Day. We missed the daytime activities for the kids because of rain. We also missed most of the evening ones because of rain, but they were able to get their faces painted and have glitter tattoos. They were given slap bracelets, flags and a beach ball each.
We came back to the house for a bit to wait for the fireworks. We went to the parking lot we always go to to watch them, the kids played with their beach balls. Then I have them each a Canadian Flag glow stick. Michaela cracked hers like normal, but when she went to shake it it sprayed all over her face. We took her straight to emergency after rinsing it with the little water we had with us. She said it was burning and hurt. Only one parent was allowed to go in the room with her and she chose Daddy. It was late and poor Jonah was exhausted, I brought him back to my place and put him to bed then went back to wait with Lauryn. She couldn’t drive because she had taken Robaxacet. When I got back to the hospital Michaela came running down the stairs to me. She said she had “cool” drops out in her eye.
Lauryn said they rinsed it and also did the orange dye so they could make sure there was no more glitter in her eye from the face painting. They also checked for scratches. She’s all good now.
After all of that excitement I am struggling to get to sleep and it is now almost 2am.
