Heather, thanks for letting us come vicariously along on your cruise.💖. Reading your daily adventures is the closest I am ever going to get, to going on a cruise. Decompress now, and take your time adjusting, and acclimating to home.
Oooh Hairy Bikers is a tv programme. Gotcha. I thought it was a particular food. My bad. It didn't sound very tasty *shivers*.😂

I have gotten so many people hooked on it.
"Naturally caffeine free rooibos red tea infused with spicy cinnamon and sweet orange."
I drink a Twinings variety of that. It is very good.

It's Friday!
Barbara - I am SO thankful it was only your side mirror, but geeze, way too close for comfort. What's a Shanghai hospital move?
Gosh, yesterday was car day on this thread. Tracey - did you have any luck? Debbie - DH drove home with new car?
Barbie - I appreciated the comments re repair old car/buy new(er). True that without a partner in the mix, car purchase decision is simpler. Sounds like your friend made some good car buying decisions that served her well. Good luck with your next vehicle!
Rosemarie - speaking of vehicles, have you been able to sell the disability van yet?
Heather - glad to hear your wrist is so much better now. Always enjoy hearing "what's for supper" at your house.
Kylia - sounds like you had a good doc visit this morning. Hope your "down there" issue gets better quickly.
Katla - I was so glad to escape that summer humidity when we left northern Indiana in '77. Anyone with naturally curly hair (like mine) was doomed to deal with frizz. It has cooled off out here and we have a layer of "marine air" this morning. Slight frizz.
I spent over an hour at the auto repair shop this morning. They weren't busy and did a visual check of what's under the Subaru's hood. It's going in next Wednesday to trace some oil leaks, which so far don't look too bad, then timing belt and possible tune up. Belts, hoses and all that jazz. He told me a ballpark of worst-case-scenario major engine costs, which are doable.
As we were going through the car records, the service tech said there's no reason this little car won't go another 100,000 miles barring some unanticipated catastrophic event. I'll have to throw some money into it from time to time, but it will be a fraction of a new(used) car taking into account lower insurance and annual tabs. Never mind payments and interest of course. If I put 10,000 miles on a vehicle every year and needed dependable (and more comfortable) transportation to and from work each day, a newer cushy vehicle would be a good idea.
But, he pretty much covered my "pro/con" list for keeping it vs. trading it. He said HE drives a 1997 4-Runner with 200,000 miles and intends to keep it going forever. And he used to sell cars, lol.
Once I get the Sube all squared away, I'll take DH's 2004 Camry in and make sure it's in good shape for another 100,000 miles.
Have a great weekend!

I just took my car in for an oil change and they wanted to replace the rear brake pads and rotors. So over $500. I think the price was high, but my dad likes this place so I can get a ride. So hopefully I won't have any trouble with the inspection now. That's next week's errand.
Annie in Delaware5 -
Lanette- dh did that quite a few years ago. What made me madder was he knew how I felt when former hubby did it then he did and didn't understand why I was upset. I wasn't there so my name isn't on the paperwork for it.1

Updated calorie burn 1181. Kirby lost his wallet, went out to retrace his steps to see if it fell out of his pocket. He called the hair cutting place where he used his cc before walking home, wasn’t there. Ughh8

Pip- hope he finds it intact.. check all the sides of couch and chairs etc...
I meant to say 10 bottles of each thats what i get sheesh.
Im still fighting this crud.. I think its a chest and head cold.. no fever .. just stuffy head and cough but thats not to bad, only when I wake up.. but the air quality isn't that great either...
I called Hyatt place where I am staying when i go down for the cruise overnight..they will pick me up at the airport for 8 bucks and to the cruise port for 9... which is a 1/2 mile away... so i think thats not bad at all..yipee6 -
Well, I got my walk in (just barely) but didn’t go back in the pool because it started to rain. Running Buzz (Robot) right now and then will probably use the Swiffer.
Pip – oh, what a hassle! So sorry for Kirby, that’s so frustrating.

Annie: I have a gym membership I only use on Saturdays and may cancel it. It is a place to go to get out of the heat.
Allie: I do question how the school expects 2 hours of school work at home from teens that are having trouble doing school work. Wouldn't doing this work at the school be better?
Lanette: I usually drive a Honda Accord and was thinking of getting a Toyota Camry. Only I can't stomach paying the insurance on a new Camry so I am going to get one with 40,000 to 50,000 miles on it.
RVRita: I see that you are at 100% on your goal to read 12 books this year. I am impressed. I can't seem to get through books. I think I fritter away time too much.
Debbie: I sign up for these streaming stations to watch a particular show and then forget to cancel and sometimes don't know how to cancel. I frustrate myself.
Heather: So glad your wrist is okay.
Kylia: I hope your MD appt goes okay.
Lisa: I hope your cardiologist appt goes well.
Kira: Welcome
Rebecca: I canceled the streaming service I had and just watch what is free through the Amazon cube.
This is $120.00 for internet and phone. I might sign up for Direct Tv or Hulu or something to watch the tennis: the US Open in New York...or in the Fall if the Braves make the play offs. I have the faster Internet service. I might try the slower internet and see if I notice the difference.
Lanette: Yes, in fact I sold the disability van at 11:00 am this morning. I took it to a Lexus Dealer and they gave me a fair price. I would have still made more if I had sold the van privately, but am glad I don't have that hassle and it is off my hands.
This gives me some funds to paint the house. Something which has not been done in well over a decade. My house is a light pink and I really want to keep it this color, but fear it might prevent the house from selling at some point - because light pink isn't for everyone. I am looking for a white color with just a hint of pink as a compromise.
I looked this afternoon and Benjamin Moore has a color..Melting Ice Cream which is still more pink than I want, but approaching what I want. I thought if I did white trim and white shutters, it would look whiter still. Weight Watchers meeting tomorrow at 9 am. I think I have lost weight but still eat too much avocado and over did eating dried cranberries. I finally threw the dried cranberries out.

Rosemarie - glad you sold the van - like you said, it's off your hands now. Last year I sold my DH's pickup - looks like the $$ will pretty much cover the repairs and spruce-ups on the 2 cars. Now I have room in the shop again, plus don't have to pay tax, license and insurance on that truck (it was a lot!)
It was so high off the ground I could barely pull myself into it so never did drive it, nor did I want to.
Before I decided to repair the old cars, I gave serious thought to getting a Toyota. Good luck car shopping.
Pip - darn shame about Kirby's wallet. There's a chance someone finds it and gets it back to him, crossing fingers. I like to think there are plenty of honest people in the world.
Annie -I think that sounds about right for brakes - my front brakes were around that. What kind of car is it? Make/model/year. By the time we get done with this car thread, we'll all be experts. Maybe we could get part-time gigs at a car dealership....

Good evening ladies!
Pip wow so many hugs!
Lanette I'd rather not put my car make/model/year out online. It's too easy to search. I don't exactly know what could happen, but my instincts vote for privacy. I'm not saying it's logical, but it makes me feel better.
Today I ate 1083 calories, Yay! And I did twenty five minutes on my bike, and an hour of yoga, and thirty minutes of aerobic walking. Yay! My deficit is 515, Yay! An excellent day!
Today I reached 500 miles on my stationary bike, Yay! It's been an awesome tool.

Hope you all had a great Friday AC fixed at work and it didn’t get too bad at all. They had it back up and running after about 8 hours.
My bursitis in my right hip is so painful right now. Hard to lie in that hip, climb stairs, stand up, walk, lift the leg, and with sitting the pain extends into the thigh. Time for my stretches, ibuprofen regularly for a few days, snd heat. Need to get my steps in as this morning I was up 5# since start of vacation. Hoping some is water weight but I did have foods I would not normally eat at home.. and I enjoyed them!
Debbie-I’m sorry to hear about Destiny’s passing and pray for her peace and her family as they navigate their grief and heartache.
Matchka-Was it you who hurt your elbow? I hope you’re seeing the bruising recede and have improving mobility as the swelling goes down. If it’s not you, then whomever it is, these thoughts are for you.
Heather-glad you enjoyed your vacation and thanks for sharing the lovely pictures of your cruise.
Have a good night everyone.

Hi I just saw this tread/group/messasge board. Not sure what the correct term is... My kids would tell you that I am just getting behind the times, but tehy still come to me when their systems need and update, LOL. Anyhow, I'm Kira from Edmonton, Alberta Canada. Today is going to be a hot one. Already 17C in my backyard. Not as smokey today which is good for the lungs.
I am 52 years young, married for almost 26 years now, together 28 years. We have 3 kids, our son is 24 and lives on his own now and is working to get his trades completed. (plumbing, electrical and HVAC) his goal is to work for himself. Our first daughter is 20 and has just completed her 2nd year of university, she is in Lethbridge which is just over a 5 hour drive from us. Our youngest will turn 18 in Spetember and just got her certificate of completion from school. She is special needs and will never ive on her own. I am working with her social worker to get her into a day program or group home.

I'm fond of naturally sweet, sort of mellow teas.

Today’s gratitude: It was only a side mirror, no one was hurt.
Yup, in bumper to bumper traffic both directions on the way home from Medford, clipped my side mirror off on an oncoming RV. No safe place on 199 to pull off, so kept going. Pretty shook up. Filed accident report online today.

Yes, that was me!
It is still bruised but I am moving the arm more, and they tell me to move it so it doesn't stiffen up. However, it still hurts when I go to rest my elbow or elbow area on something. Even a tight sleeve is painful. It's a deep bone bruise so it will take a while.
I also bruised something in my inner, right knee when the bicycle frame landed on me. The bruising has dissipated quicker than around the elbow but there's still quite a sore area. Possibly deeper bruising there too.
Everything was a little bit sorer after yesterday's ride, but not too bad.

Barbie - I really hope you’re right. I worry.
Michele - I have a crystal collection. My grandmother started it for me the year I was 16 and received my hope chest for Christmas. I had always pretended to drink champagne out of a glass of hers that looked like crystal. I was drinking ginger ale. I guess I got so attracted to it probably from the soaps, especially Dynasty and Dallas. 😂. I’m sure my girls won’t want it, but I can tell where every piece came from.
Barbara - that’s a rough day. Mirrors aren’t cheap, although we found one for our daughters car for 60 on Amazon and the dealership wanted 200.
Debbie - I wish your DH would get some help too. It’s not healthy for you or him.
My DH’s family resolved things at the top of their lungs. He is very calm and quiet. I think he didn’t want to be like that. I have a foul temper, it takes a lot to get me there and it’s probably only come out about 3 times in our marriage thankfully. I don’t like myself like that.
Allie - I understand the stress their family dynamics puts on you, Carmine isn’t going to be able to get her problems fixed without Kyle getting his fixed. It’s a terrible situation and I hope they get help soon.
I hope you feel better soon, my SIL apparently woke up sick today with a cold/flu.
Kylia - maybe it’s the meds causing the infection. I haven’t had one for years but used to get them all the time.
Heather - beautiful painting.
Margaret - well said.
Rebecca - out cable and internet are close in price to yours. We are looking at how to lower the cost without losing services. It’s always such a game with these companies.
Lanette - DH now has a 2017 Dodge Ram. The road to credit rebuilding has started I guess.
Great news about your car. My brother swears by Toyotas. He is a mechanic.
I just saw your comment about driving your DH’s truck. Yesterday, DH told me he didn’t know if he would let me drive his truck, I told him that I’m sure I would be the first time he needed something that he didn’t want to go get and wouldn’t fit in my vehicle. Tonight, he came home from work, put on lounge pants and remembered he needed gas. So I’ve driven it already.
One of my previous jobs required me to drive all sorts of trucks, the biggest was a Dodge 3500. It was a bit much, but I did it.
Pip - What a hassle losing a wallet. It takes so much time to get things replaced.
Rosemarie - we signed up for Paramount Plus through Amazon easily on the app on my phone. I spent 2 hours trying to cancel it last week, turns out you can only cancel through the Amazon website not the app. They always find some way of trying to get you.
I set a calendar reminder for a few days before the membership renews so I can cancel if we’re not watching. I just cancelled a few last week. Right now we have Apple TV free.
Annie - I agree with Lanette, about $500 for rotors and brakes on my car last year. I would have thought prices were cheaper in the States, but not so much.
I just saw that there is a 5th Toy Story in the works. That is my favourite animated movie series of all time. I also like Shrek. Inside Out is one that I keep waiting for a sequel. That one came out the year my Mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and it made me cry. Our eldest daughter thought she should have had royalties, because it explained so much about how she felt when we moved her across the country at age 8.
I have crafted most of the day, trying new things. I’m not done to my satisfaction yet so will have to finish tomorrow probably.

Up early again.
My son texted yesterday afternoon that he wanted to pop over 'to say hi'. That is is son-speak for 'I need you to do something for me ' !!!! He came over in the evening and brought Edie with him for collateral.
As I thought, he had quite a list, but tries to pretend he's only just thought of it. He's a business man, and used to negotiating, but I know him too well.
Edie and DH sat on the sofa laughing at funny pig videos. I told my son that I wanted to borrow Max one day so I had a good excuse to go to the Regency for fish and chips. I denied myself all through the cruise.
OK. Then he said he was taking part in a half 'Iron Man' competition on Sunday about 20 miles away and DDIL and Edie were coming to watch him. Complicated arrangements, because Bea has her theatre show, 'Matilda', that day. So we are standing in as the official audience with Max. So, it's drop off, take her to the rehearsal, wait around an hour, watch the show (thankfully only half an hour), and back to ours with the two of them.
If my son is in any kind of a fit state we will all meet up for early dinner somewhere. I can't imagine he will be. He can do the long sea swim, and the cycling is no problem, but the half-marathon at the end? My elder son has done it, but at a much younger age. I don't think his training has been enough and he has never been a runner, with calf and ankle problems. Oh well.
I'm pleased to be supporting Bea and encouraging her performance. She has some words to say.
Then it turns out they need to stay with us for two nights in the beginning of August as they have to leave the apartment then. After that they are going to DDIL's parents in Hampshire for a week, before they move back in to a not-quite-finished house. Oouuff! They have had to borrow more money from her parents to get the house finished and have cancelled their holiday in France. So, all five are here for two nights. Could be worse! We are lucky we can help out. The stress must be awful and I have no idea what they are doing with the furniture. I suppose it must be going into storage.
Of course, now I'm thinking about it all........
I did up two houses in London. Both times I was in the middle of a mental health crisis. I know it's very stressful. Happy to support them. I know they're will be a lot more babysitting in the holidays. Max breaks up next week and the girls in two weeks. (IMHO we break up far too late in the summer in England)
I'm sure the house will be amazing when it's done, but house prices are falling and mortgage rates keep going up. They need their health. Good job it's the summer.
Taking a quiet day today. Salad lunch for me, sandwich for DH. No idea what we are having for dinner. Frittata? Yes!
With feta and veggies from the freezer. I have some King Charles's organic eggs. Actually, I think they are now Prince William's.
Yesterday, I cooked, in the IP, a whole lot of urad dahl. I will finish it off today with fresh ginger, tomato, garlic, herbs and spices, along with oodles of butter and some cream, to make 'Dahl Makhani', one of the most heavenly, indulgent, dishes in the world. Not remotely slimming, but a little goes a long way. I will freeze most of it in portions. I had it on the cruise, and it reminded me of how much I loved it in India. Some people add some red beans, but I didn't have it like that in India, and I prefer it without. Also with less tomato.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx3 -
You all seem to pay a huge amount for your internet and tv. We have to pay a TV licence fee for the year, then the usual phone and Internet, around £65 a month, including BBC Sport for DH. That's it. We use Freeview on the TV, which is more than enough for us. I have free Netflix from my son, but I expect that to be stopped before long.
At the moment we are still catching up with stuff I recorded while we were away. I prefer recording to streaming as I just choose what I like. Less choice, less confusion.
I hate high monthly bills. Don't have any personally, apart from sim only phone, and Amazon Prime. Jointly, we keep monthly outgoings to the bare minimum, just utilities and council tax. DH does car and house insurance, parking, and TV license. We are lucky in that we have no mortgage, no car payments, no health insurance, no pet insurance, no subscriptions. Each month our joint account just scrapes by on our state pension. I do have to be very careful, and often economise on food and clothing. Our extravagance is our wildly expensive cruises, for which we use lifetime savings. When it's gone, it's gone. I keep hoping I'll win the lottery!
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx4 -
We pay $0 for TV.
And something ... maybe $50/month?? ... for internet. I'd have to look it up.
I win the lottery just about every week. If I go 2 weeks in a row without winning, I get frustrated and stop buying tickets for a while.
No debts.
No big expenses.
Nothing extravagant.
That said ... I have started toying with the idea of getting us gravel bicycles. And unfortunately, the days of $1000 bicycles have gone.
