Good evening ladies!

Today I ate 1083 calories. Yay! Right on target. And I rode my bike for twenty five minutes, and I did an hour of yoga and thirty minutes of aerobic walking. Yay! So my deficit is 507. What? Two days ago, the same plan got me a deficit of 515. I guess it's because I lost three pounds, I don't burn as much fuel moving around. Eight calories less.

I lowered my resistance on my bike again because my knee was getting stiff. But on the other hand, I did some intervals today: five minutes of rest (about) followed by a twenty second sprint, repeated four times, plus five minutes of cool down. So maybe I can count it as faster riding. Leisure cycling is 122 calories but moderate cycling is 245. Or maybe that path leads to inflated exercise calories and back to overeating. Hmm. I don't want to change just yet.

Allie, I'm so glad that Miles seems to be adjusting well to his new daycare! Much nicer for you to just be Gramma! And you can be there for emergencies too, if you want to be that is!
Debbie, sounds like you and hubby would do well to cut ties with Ezie's family! I know that the step grampa had some mental health issues, is he okay now? Sounds like he's just back in the same toxic environment that got him in trouble to start with! Good call on not giving him any money!

Lanette, I think you're right, you have it good right now with your neighbours willing to give you a hand. I wouldn't be looking for male companionship either! What's nice right now is that when your neighbourhood fellas want lunch they go home to their wives and you don't need to worry about them! lol (or have to pick up their dirty socks either.....)

Can't remember who was asking about what to do now that she's retired, but I'll put my two cents worth in. I retired just under a year ago. I had already been watching our granddaughter one day a week, and picking up our grandson after school on those days, so I upped that to two days and I started volunteering for an outfit that helps women get back on their feet. We are partnered with many different agencies who help women, whether they are escaping abusive relationships or if they are young and have just aged out of foster care and everyone in between! We collect household goods and the gals can come by and "shop" for what they need. All of our items are donated (except bed pillows, we buy new) and so everything is free. We've even started doing some furniture. I found out about them while I was still working, the storage facility that I worked at donated 4 large lockers for this group, so I was familiar with what happened there. It looked like fun, so when I retired, I started helping out. It's only a couple of hours two Saturdays a month, so doesn't cut into my "me" time much. I've just been helping out on donation days, but will start training to do the "shops" with the gals too. I'm looking forward to that. And I recently found out that our granddaughter will be going to preschool in Sept, so I will have more time.
Basically what I'm saying is one option is to look for a volunteer opportunity. Food banks and soup kitchens I think are often looking for help, if that's something that interests you.

Lanette - One of my friends says she will never have another man in her life if anything happens to her husband. She has been pretty controlled in her marriage. I personally probably would if it was the right person. I would need someone that allowed me my freedom as well.
I’m glad your Subaru is not costing you a fortune. It will be interesting to see what you get for the drums. Do you have a number in mind that would make you happy?
W Network is playing Christmas movies. Last week I Told Jonah we should watch one to cool us off. He looked at me as if my head was on backwards.

I have started setting calendar reminders on my phone for subscriptions. We are trying a few “free for 3 months” deals and I don’t want to start getting charged.

Unfortunately, I am almost at my highest weight again. I have managed to keep it under the 2’s though. Not much but a little.

Busy day today, I had my car into the shop for 9am as scheduled, but the part didn’t show up until almost 1030. I ended up having a 45 minute conversation with my BFF during my wait. It was lovely.
Stopped to buy a bra extender, the hooks aren’t in the right spot for bra though.

. I also stopped to buy a fm radio for my car. The antenna is busted on my car and stations won’t come in. I thought I could run one through the speakers. It didn’t work well so returned it.

Then I went to the ceramics shop to help out for a bit, came home and designed, cut and weeded the shirts for tomorrow.

Now I’ve had a bath and am sitting here catching up with you at almost midnight.

I should be able to sleep in a bit tomorrow which will make tomorrow evening nice.

Very smoky here today, DH was sent home early.

The weather was horrible yesterday, dreary, raining, and at one stage we got caught in a downpour, and DH's umbrella broke! We were looking for a taxi, (black cab), but on a Friday rush hour, in the rain, no chance!
We picked up a bus for a few stops, but walked most of the way to Soho.
However, it's much better than a heatwave!

We caught the early train (which was horribly crowded, but we got seats), and hung around in a coffee shop. The lunch was wonderful. Great venue, gorgeous food. DH paid for an introductory celebration glass of champagne, and all the rest of the (very expensive) meal with wine. We had decided that morning to pay for the boyfriend as well. I gave DSIL her scented candle and I think she really appreciated it all.

Then we went to the Foundling Museum, where Thomas Coram started a home for children whose mother's couldn't care for them, in the 1740s. Very sad and touching. I've been before, but the others hadn't. DSIL counsels adopted children and DH is adopted.
Then it was the trek across town in the rain!!!

My idea was to go to my favourite, famous pub, and then for a light dim sum in China Town. The pub was hideously overcrowded, though I got the only seat left. We enjoyed ourselves though, and met a nice young Canadian guy. Friday night is not a good time for a quiet drink.
China Town has really deteriorated since I used to be a frequent visitor. The places I knew for fifty years have closed down, and only tourist traps are left. The one or two decent places had big queues outside. Eventually I picked just anywhere, and we resigned ourselves to a substandard light meal, but at least we were together. By this time poor DH was losing heart and was very tired. I managed to keep going somehow, mainly for DSIL. Really we should have just gone home. But I actually enjoyed my crispy duck with pancakes, which I haven't had in thirty years.

The journey back was great, on the Gatwick Express, no people, and I paid for a taxi from the station. Hooray!

So today, a very quiet day!

Barbie-sweet car! How exciting-not only is it new but it is something you also wanted to help live your life style.
Allie-Miles is radiant!
Debbie-good call on the day care. It sounds like an unstable situation for you. Also, the need for child care providers is great-I am sure you can find another child if you really want to. Better to not be involved in the financial issues of others-especially if it is chronic.
Lanette-I'm in agreement with you on the dating scene. Right now with work I couldn't imagine it-don't have the energy! And I like my own schedule. I may change in the future but I am not searching. It may sound horrible, but I am not sure I would handle burying another husband. Having said that-I may change my mind at any time-and that's ok too.
Evelyn-I like your retirement activities!
Tracey-don't beat yourself up too much-you have had a lot on your plate.
Barbara-expensive mirror but if it has any of the electronic features-that really ups the price. I shouldn't but I am most likely getting new Apple Watch when new model comes out. I have the Series 8. I really like it and decided while I am working I will keep up with the tech I like.
Heather-your tromp around London does sound tiring. We walked everywhere it seemed when we visited in 2012. Took train from Cambridge I believe (son lived in Lakenheath/Mildenhall). Saw the palace, London Bridge, spent time in Camden Town-they had a huge Christmas Fair, went to China Town. Not sure where the hotel was we stayed in. My kids loved it-it all looked closer on the map. Very tiring, my husband complained lots but still a very good memory.

Made it through the week. Mammogram report from test Friday just showed up-everything looks good. Neck and lung cat scan in a couple of weeks and I should be done with major health tests for the year. Need to get blood work for specialist today or Monday.

Expecting rain this pm so going to get walk and shopping done early-a typical Saturday.

Good morning, chickadees. Just sitting with my coffee before going out for my Saturday fresh produce. Still showery 😝 DH has put the oven on to clean, so I am happy to get out of the house while that’s happening.

@PackerFanInGB Hi Tracey. Fancy meeting you here 😝 When I retired DH and I did a lot of trips that I couldn’t do when I was teaching as they were too expensive in summer high season. Then I started attending groups in things I was interested in run by a lifelong charity in our town. Eventually I became a volunteer group leader. Give yourself time to settle into it. After a while you’ll wonder how you ever had time to work 😝
Lisa: 😂 I’m an Obliviator in the Hogwarts Holiday Challenge, which is Located in the Ministry of Magic in London. The relay is a list of tasks we have to accomplish one by one as a team this week. It’s a Magical International Cooperation Challenge with tasks related to different countries around the world.
Annie: It’sgreat to see the progress you are making. Good luck with the car.

Morning peeps. 4:43am PST and kirby is going riding while I take the kids. It’s 72 now but the suns not out which makes it seem cooler.

Tomorrow we go camping for a week, it will be cooler there which will be nice for the kids.

Barbara AHMOD - Thank you! I'm not sure it will feel real until the first of August goes by and there's no mortgage payment taken from the bank account. As someone else said, it's a pity there's no mortgage paper left to set on fire to celebrate. It's like my older laptop was waiting for the house payoff to die... it was the computer I used to set up and pay off the mortgage. I'll just have to burn down the drive on it to make up for the mortgage burning. (Geek joke.

Heather - Your London trip sounds both wonderful and utterly exhausting!

I feel as if I should accomplish something, but my headspace is all taken up by the dread of the colonoscopy prep beginning tomorrow and the procedure itself on Tuesday. I'm getting myself too worked up over it, I know. I just need to relax and get my mind off it, but the thought of two days with only clear liquids is seriously making me twitchy. Then again, Corey's making me grilled shrimp tonight, my favorite meal.

Rebecca, I've seen you deal with self-directed fasts for 24 hours and more; how do you make it through? Any hints from anyone else who has fasted for 48 hours or more?

Well I chickened out on getting the car registered. Told myself it would be less busy mid week. So today is laundry, and buy dog food, and a lottery ticket.

I'm another one who quit dating. It seems like all the men are way up in Philadelphia, which is a big drive for me. And so we would have lunch, which screws my diet, and that's all I can get away for. It just isn't worth the drive to meet another man who is less than I hoped. I might do better with a pen pal. Anyway, my life is my parents until they pass, and then it will take all my time to figure out housing. Then after that, I might think about dating again.

The car is fabulous. All the way home we were grateful that we don't live in the city. I am definitely a country mouse. There was a two hour wait in line for the ferry because of all the tourists and it being Friday afternoon in the summer. There are so many amazing features on the car that I may never learn them all. It was so much fun to plug in the car in our garage. No more trips to the gas station.

LisaCongrats on getting your house paid off. That is a world class accomplishment.

About retirement. A few months after retiring and moving north to where we live now, I was reading the newspaper and saw a notice of a beginner line dance class. I went to the class and fell in love and acquired a new passion that I would not have had time for while I was working.

Can't imagine my mechanic husband buying an electric vehicle, but it might not be a choice before all is said and done. Hope you and your DH enjoy yours enormously, and loved seeing you both in the pic. You look awesome.

Heavy, stressful, busy, rollercoaster week. So incredibly exhausted.

Thank goodness for the weekend!

Today we went to hockey (field, not ice) and watched our son and daughter-in-law play great games.

I'm on enforced rest this weekend for my right knee which I hurt in the little crash I had 3.5 weeks ago. I was concerned about the elbow and figured that my knee (right side of the knee) was just bruised and would be all right. The elbow has a deep bone bruise which is healing slowly ... and meanwhile the knee has been getting more and more painful. Now they think I may have torn my MCL. Rest this weekend. Scans next week.

Tracie Welcome back...
I eased into retirement. I substituted as a teacher up until Covid after working on and off as a full time teacher for about fifteen years. Now I garden, sing in a choir, maintain two houses, volunteer in a classroom once a week, get together with friends on average twice a month, in a painting group that meets once a week, have a chihuahua/greyhound mix, work at staying healthy. More than enough to do! It is up to me to use my time wisely. NO is a valuable word. Others may think that now that you have all this time it is a good time to ask you to do this that and the other thing. It is your time and up to you how you want to spend it.
Traveled when younger. Not much interest in doing that now. Interesting that is the first thing that comes to mind for some. Perhaps it was all that subbing when I had to adjust to new situations daily that I have had enough of disrupting my routine. I have traveled from Minnesota to St. Louis at least 50 times in my lifetime. To Milwaukee at least 15. Chicago 10. Among trips to Washington DC, Glacier, Arizona. Europe, Biloxi Mississippi 3 times, Florida, Caribbean. I love seeing travel pictures and pictures from around the world. Now the world comes to me.
I am more like Barbie where I like my routine now and am content.
